@TackleI removed the steering damper. It had got 1000 quids worth of bitubo rear shock which solves the issue. Really don't need a steering damper with a proper shock. Naff bike to ride slowly or round town, loads of fun, and far too easy, to do silly speeds. I got rid on my return and bought something a bit more me. Anyway, I won't hijack this further, to summarise in the game of morrocan crime gang glock paper scissors, glock won.4 points

Afternoon all, Been a while since I've done a forum introduction anywhere! I'm Steve, from just outside Colchester, Essex! I used to play a lot when I was younger, but work commitments got in the way and I stopped playing for nearly 5 years. When I was planning my stag do, however, I knew that I wanted to play airsoft at my local site, AirsoftGB. Due to me catching covid 2 days before the skirmish day, we postponed until last weekend (a full month AFTER the wedding, I'll add) but I had such a riot, and I've already been looking at when I can next play. I'll post a couple of photos from the Stag do, I wore antlers and a pink shirt for the first game, but it was just too hot unfortunately! Current gear is an ASG g36, G&G CM16 Raider, and a TM G17 AEP. Looking forward to getting back out there more!2 points

One of my grandfathers served in the Royal Navy in WW1, seeing action at Dogger Bank and Jutland. One of my great-grandfathers served in the Second Boer War and in WW1, ending up in Salonica. I still have his mess menu from Christmas 1918, when he was still in Salonica. Going back a bit further a relative was at Rorkeβs Drift, winning the VC, while, even further back, another served in La Legion Irlandaise (later the 3e Regiment Etranger) in Napoleonβs army, rising to the rank of Chef de Bataillon and being awarded the Legion dβHonneur in 1814, although he never received the actual medal as Napoleon abdicated and the Bourbons returned to power for a while. I just remembered another relative who went to America in 1861 to fight for the Confederacy (Boo! Hiss!). Having managed to join up, he was captured and sent back to England, where he got on another ship and went back again. According to family legend, he was again captured and, this time, was held prisoner. He was pardoned after the war and one of my cousins still has that document.2 points -

Wow, some amazing stuff here already! In spite of being fascinated by WW2 when I was a kid (Sven Hassel being my favourite author for quite a while, Commando comic being avidly read...) I never really questioned any of my family about the war. A massive wasted opportunity. I do remember my granddad on my mother's side telling me a tiny bit about his war service and so I've only got this as first-hand history: He was in the artillery as a gun-layer on a 25 pounder He bought home the gunsight off a captured 88mm Flak gun, He showed it to me once when I was very young. Mint condition in its velvet lined case, I remember being very impressed with whole thing, especially the reticle when looking through it. He told me he was one of the very first of the artillerymen to advance over the Rhine, but because he'd got a terrible case of the trots, he had to go across with a cork up his bum My dad told me one great uncle was one of the very first POW's, as he got shot down in a Blenheim bomber doing a leaflet drop over one of the Low Countries, right at the start of the war. Poor bugger must have spent 6 years wishing he'd at least been dropping bombs on the enemy. I do vaguely recall being told my one of relatives flew as wingman to "Johnnie" Johnson, famed Spitfire ace, but never found out any more about that.2 points -

LOL Brother inherited this and doesn't ride bike's - said I could have it but SWMBO put the kibosh on it... He also had these: Had a very happy summer getting them "ready" for selling. Honda hadn't been run for nearly 15 years - started on the third try - once I remembered to turn the fecking fuel on. Whilst I dont care what patches someone wears, again I'd apply good taste and considering what's going on right now, having Zs on your shoulders or brain bucket is probably not the cleverest thing to do is it. As for spreading as the title puts it "questionable politics", I.e. the complete and utter spanner referenced in @Rogerborg's post above, I think we'd all agree that we want none of that shit anywhere near Airsoft. But that had the excuse of being a test-bed, rather than someone thinking it's a good idea to spoil the beloved FAL Edit: In a homage to the "What have they done to my boy" meme someone posted for that bullpup abomination, I commented... Pretty tame family history compared to others here. Of note: Great-Great-grandfather was 32 when he died serving in the RAMC as a medic onboard the Glenart Castle Hospital ship, sunk in 1918 by a U-boat. Family tradition, that all first born sons carry his first name as our middle name. Maternal Great-grandfather served in the East during WW2 and ended the war as part of the occupation force in Japan. Supposedly had photos of the aftermath of hiroshima, which he'd smuggled home. My nan used to say he was in a 'commando' but I've tried to research formations that ended up in Japan and I couldn't see any. He was from the Isle of Lewis, with McLeod surname, so I presumed he'd joined a jock unit. I maybe wrong, and he could have transfered between units/formations. My mum said he never spoke of the war and very much had PTSD. My mums paternal grandfather was a train driver in London/Kent during the war, so was in a protected occupation. He did have a small box of paraphernalia, such as helmet for air raids, which I did see as a child. Unfortunately this went wayward on his passing. Dad's side. His mother was born in Danzig to Polish/German parents. His mum fled Danzig via U-boat with her mother and brother in 1945 as part of Operation Hannibal. Supposedly they were meant to escape on the German liner the Wilhelm Gustloff, however secured passage on the U-boat and avoided the greatest maritime disaster. Not sure about the rest of her family, but it's probably safe to say the men would have fought/served on the German side in some capacity. I know she had cousins who remained in Germany and my dad kept in contact until the last remaining one died of cancer in the early 2000s. Their family surname was Hess. Dad's dad was born in Hertfordshire and served in the RAF Regiment for his national service, completing the majority of his time at an AA installation in the Troodos mountains of Cyprus. He came home, became a salesman and learnt to fly, and flew in civilian airshows in planes like the gypsy and tiger moths. He remains a plane fanatic, only stopping flying within the last decade.1 point

All these tales of peoples grandfathers that served in WW2 is making me feel old! My Dad served in WW2 as an airframe fitter for the Fleet Air Arm in Malta. Apparently my Mums Dad served in tanks in WW1 but he was long gone before I came around so details are sketchy at best.1 point -

Ive got some history somewhere as well. Great-great grandfather on my father's side was Henry Hulbert, a Brit who joined the US Marines prior to WWI due to some less than favorable circumstances, received a handful of medals including the Medal of Honor for actions during the Second Samoan Civil War, the Distinguished Service Cross for actions in Belleau Wood, and the Navy Cross and the French Croix De Guerre posthumously after he was KIA on Mt Blanc in 1918. He had a Clemson-class Destroyer (DD-342) named after him, which was stationed at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7th, and is believed to be the first ship to have opened fire on the Japanese that morning, destroying one torpedo bomber and damaging several other aircraft, claiming an assist on a dive bomber. That was the really only moment of noteworthiness for the USS Hulbert, as she sustained no damage over the course of the war and spent most of her time as an escort, working with the newer US Fast Attack Carriers. She is accredited with rescuing a dozen pilots during that time. She was decommissioned in 1945. Her bell is on display at the Marine Corp's Barracks in Parris Island I believe Great-grandfather on my mother's side was Arthur Rogers, a bomber commander in the Pacific theatre during WWII. He was the driving force behind the upgraded B-24D class of Heavy Bombers, during which he flew his personally-modified B-24 the "Connell's Special" on a solo bombing mission, taking several Japanese fighters down with the new nose-mounted ball turret he and his men salvaged off a crashed B-17's tail. Notable exploits of his were the allowance of Pappy Gunn to use his AF for fuel and ammunition (if you don't know Pappy Gunn look him up - he took a B-25 and mounted a French 75mm anti-tank gun in the nose, and used it to attack Japanese naval convoys by himself after the Japanese killed his family in the Philippines, where he worked as an ariel mail delivery service prior to the war), as Gunn at the time was essentially using a stolen B-25 for his vigilante attacks and some wanted him arrested and tried for it, and for the creation of the heavier-armed B-24D variant. He was involved in the Bikini Atoll testing in some capacity, though Im not sure to what extent. He passed away before I was born.1 point -

The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread
EvilMonkee reacted to Impulse for a topic
Just came back from a weekend of Gunman 'Namsoft up at Eversley Alpha and it reminded me why I do airsoft and why I love this hobby so much. Got a lift up with the usual pair I go airsofting with, one of whom is a pretty avid camper so it was as comfortable as it really could be camping in the woods and ended up having a great time. Met up with a bunch of people, old and new faces alike, and we ended up camping next to our resident @Tactical Pith Helmet and his family. However, it was a good time in a strange way because I didn't actually play much. I had rampant anxiety on the Friday night as Friday was a sweaty day due to the heat, having a wander around the site to get the lay of the land etc, and my mind was constantly like "hey, your heart could start doing its weird stuff again" even though I'm pretty damn confident I solved that problem. This meant I didn't get a wink of sleep and thus I couldn't play on the Saturday as I was absolutely drained as soon as I got out there, then on the Sunday I realised that being 20kg heavier (again, this was caused by my heart thing earlier in the year) and wearing pretty heavy, thick, all black kit in this weekend's weather was a recipe for disaster. I just... couldn't play, no matter how much I wanted to. It was truly disappointing! "So how was it a good time?" I hear you ask. Well, the social side was fantastic. I absolutely loved chatting with everyone, talking k98s with TPH and just seeing airsoft how it should be played, and I'm not talking about the filmsim roleplay parts; there wasn't rampant cheating, or people throwing their toys out the pram (too much) or people yelling about getting overshot. It was just a good weekend of BB wars and I was all for it. Also Josh, the organiser and owner of Gunman, is a joy to be around. That man has boundless energy and always loves for his games to just be a good time. I'm not the biggest roleplayer, for example, but that's never been a problem. As long as my kit looks good and my weapons are period-accurate, I'm never made to feel unwelcome just because I don't yell "GO HOME GI" at the top of my lungs (though it was very amusing for the otherwise silent forest to be punctuated by such yells that I could hear across the entire site while I was trying to sneak up on people). Fun parts where I actually played were fun though. I left my guns in our regen and took a radio that I tucked into my trousers, heading to a US-held area. I told them I needed to pass through the village and they searched me, but they didn't find the radio so I headed on through and... proceeded to relay their numbers and positions to my fellow freedom fighters. Then on the Sunday I managed to stalk through the bushes and take out four Americans with just a pistol by shooting and then moving. However, my 1911... in the words of Darth Vader, "you have failed me for the last time..." It just wasn't performing great, even though it was perfect weather for gas pistols. I've tried to make it good, but this was the last chance I was giving it, so moving forward I will run the AAP (it's converted to a Ruger .22) and the mac11 as a backup secondary (since the mac10 was used and they look the same, just slightly smaller) The really good things that came out of the weekend were: Social Josh being Josh Reinforcement that my heart thing is solved because it didn't happen on any night and every day was full of stuff that would've normally set it off, just my mind was telling me "oh but it could" all through Friday night Top quality airsoft for the 2 hours I played Learned that I need to revisit my kit for Nam games to make it a bit more practical Gave me a kick up the backside to lose weight and get fitter I'll let Mr. TPH give you a more accurate rundown of how the games went, but even from the perspective of me, a person who had basically everything conspire to stop me from playing, the weekend was fantastic and I'm already looking forward to the next one.1 point -

The cold war is a very bad example of the point you're trying (and failing) to make. Both sides were in an arms race as they both considered the other side to be wanting to wipe them out. As for your question about why wouldn't they use it, why would they go through the extra hassle of getting a gun when a knife can be bought for a fraction of the price and will have the same effect on the victim, whether that's making them comply or putting a hole in them1 point -

Pull your head in, old boy; your angry man syndrome is showing. AI legislation and firearms legislation are two completely different situations. The former is a new and rapidly developing area and all governments are looking at its potential impact and how to prevent it growing out of control; it is not a case of "follow my leader". Do you really think that a US requirement to have markings on imitation firearms and some form of testing programme for the same is going to impact your right to own a firearm in the UK? I did NOT say that nobody needs a firearm; I said that, outside a few legitimate reasons, nobody in the UK needs a firearm; if you are going to argue with me, at least try to argue with what I have said. I stand by what I said; there are very few people in the UK who need a firearm. Your car argument is utterly infantile; cars serve a useful purpose in transporting people. As such, they are useful tools. In the UK, firearms are only useful tools for very, very few people. Comparing airsofters with Dietrich Bonhoeffer is utterly ridiculous and massively insulting to someone who had the guts to stand up to one of the most vile regimes in modern history. The part that I highlighted is incredibly simplistic; it is the classic argument that guns are not the problem and that "an armed society is a safe society". Guns may not be the whole of the problem but they are a very large part of it; having an armed society hasn't worked out particularly well for you, has it? Has it created a safer society? I don't think that there is anything that ordinary Joes like you can do; the situation has reached the point where you just have to accept that dead schoolchildren are the price you have to pay for an obsession with owning guns and a devotion to every word, comma, full stop etc of an outdated constitution that prevents people from accepting that the conditional clause of the second amendment is now obsolete, thus voiding the right to keep and bear arms.1 point -

Most of the developed world moved way beyond that incredibly simplistic view a long time ago. Unfortunately, I suspect that there are so many guns in circulation in the USA that you are truly fucked. You have created an armed, aggressive and fearful society with appallingly poor education and mental health provision, resulting in a situation where a reasonably large number of schoolchildren are going to be killed in mass shootings every year.
