  1. A great day was had at AWA on Sunday. Red team dominated the day by winning every game by significant margins, but I'd put that down to a bias of rentals doing rental shit. One of whom was a rather cocky young lad that managed to piss a few of the regulars off; but instead of it being a bad thing, he kind of became a target of opportunity throughout the day. I took a corker of a shot to the bridge of my nose during the village domination game, which was claimed by two of the green team and it refused to stop bleeding for a good while; but the blood splatters added a bit more authenticity to my loadout. There was a small sub-group of us on each team that were actively going for each other which was good fun as we were camped together in the safe zone. Marshalls were on form as usual with the new gender neutral, standing rule of "don't be a genital" working well. One Marshall needs a bit of nature training as we lost a few minutes of a game due to an enforced ceasefire when a suspected dog was spotted in the game area.... Turned out to be a small dear... But to be fair a few idiots have been caught recently strolling through the game area not realising where they were; and there's nothing like a bit of piss taking to teach a lesson and have a laugh at the same time. I was duel wielding for most of the afternoon, with either the Honey Badger or Specna as a secondary to my SVU. Which is fine, but I need to come up with a sling configuration that allows me to stow the SVU without leaving it somewhere in the game zone. Currently I just hand carry the SVU with the secondary on a single point sling. Got more feeding issues with the two M4s, but I'm thinking it's more down to the mags than the guns. I have two flash mags that work perfectly with both, and that's enough really. The Auto 9 is still being unusable with it either just venting gas, or the mags not locking in place. Good job it looks awesome otherwise I might be upset at the cost LOL. Will see what happens when the ambient temperature reaches double figures, as the Glocks are still not great, but are improving with the temperatures. Will add the official pics when they upload them to Faceache. The site is fairly simple, but the regulars there, along with the Marshalls and owners make it a good chilled day with plenty of challenges. Touching Cloth is still my favourite game, but I prefer it when the objective is on top of The Bunker rather than in The Farm - it's the climbing of the hill to reach the objective with the defenders holding the lower ground on the other side that makes the challenge more satisfying (and painful). Shooting out of the bunker door at the enemy trying to flank you is a fun one (as long as they take their hits). We've had some epic battles there when the mist/light rain has been coming down and people were liberal with smoke grenades. It's close to something you'd see in Platoon or Apocalypse Now. I've found a hidey hole that gives great line of sight to the entrance, but it's next to impossible for someone there to spot you - although those manning the edges of the bunker can see you if they're paying attention. The Farm is more suited to the zombie infection style of games. Anyway... Got home at the end of the day only for SWMBO to declare the grass needed cutting again, so even after 7 miles worth of running around (according to my watch) I had more outside shit to do; but it was a lovely evening, and the boy was in a good mood after a fun day's pewing so it could have been worse, especially as we're trying to keep the true cost of this hobby on the downlow LOL.

  4. So it went from this to this I still can't get over how easy it was, even compared to the idea of just spraying over the top of the blue. (I don't 'baby' my guns too much when I'm out on a skirmish, so they're going to pick up a few light scratches - every chance I'd have had the blue showing through in short order) So "tea and medals" for @Cr0-Magnon and @Snakeeyes75 for coming up with brake fluid as the very thing

  5. After about 3 months of panicking that I'd be out of work this week, I got a new contract. So 2 days later I bought another gun It's a Classic Army Scarab ABR Just a boneyard special from Action Hobbies but I do have to say it's rather splendid so far... For a paltry £100 I've got a backup gun that might get some prime-time use - it's full metal, solid as a rock, got a high speed motor so really is at the "20's Plenty" 'plus' end of the scale... 13" barrel, programmable ETU with burst fire. So basically it scratches my 'buy another Double Eagle M90x gun' itch, but that's less than half the price. I took the upper receiver off and removed the bright blue paintwork (see my two-tone thread for details), and I've been really impressed by the way the gun was put together. It's very well engineered. Very solid outer barrel is well braced within the monolithic upper receiver. The metal hop unit and stock rubber seem to be lifting the 0.32's I tried in it... I'll confirm that with some more testing tomorrow. The only two issues are 1) The battery goes inside the foregrip, so no room for chunky stuff. And you need Allen keys to undo the two bolts so won't be easy mid-game 2) The gun doesn't like my Lonex flash mags. There's too much forward and backward play in the mag well, so the gun will double-feed or not feed at all sometimes. It's entirely fixable with some shimming inside the mag well, but I'm not quite sure how I'll achieve that yet.

  6. SBS, right? Does anyone have an embassy on a riverboat casino? If not, they should. <Ackchyually> if my gnu is in 9 distinct shades of very-very-very-very-very-dark-grey, and 11% blue, that's the "principal" colour, right?
    2 points
  7. Maybe that random blue sticker on the mag well got it past 49.99% 'bright' blue 😁 I'm very grateful for the way it was done though - if some of the lower, or the plastic stock had been done, then it would have been that much harder to do a nice job on it. I'd probably have just gone for a typical slap-dash rattle-can-camo job instead. Edit: Actually the stock is all-metal.. that could've been blued as well, without making my job any harder

  8. Shall I just comment that you have not even changed an IF into a RIF? Two tones don’t exist in the law, the VCRA requires an IF to be over 50% of one of the specified colours Blue is not a VCRA compliant colour, bright blue is, one part of the frame is not over 50% of the body - (though in this case it could be a matter of measuring some areas) (Rhetorical question) Why do retailers bother to paint a part of the body a non compliant colour ? But they have tried a little bit harder than those who promote false defences ……… Well done you for fixing a well executed but flawed attempt at making an IF

  11. Well, if it is a Kingdom of Airsoft Longsword, then it might work. That's one of their standard fUlLy UpGrAdEd packages, and they're still in business, so presumably they know what they're doing with it. Not that I'd pay anywhere near that for what is, at the end of the day, a toy gun that will sling plastic much like any other. And the absolute most that you can pay for the fUlL uPgRaDe is £1345, plus the base gun (half of which then gets thrown away), so he's asking new or near new money for it. Airsofters, bunch of wankers, innit.

  13. Unexpectedly good news to report! Well firstly, no plastic involved... CNC'd aluminium upper receiver, and so 'monolithic' in its length that there was nothing else on the gun to paint. Secondly. It only bloomin' blinkin' well worked perfectly. The blue just washed off in the soapy water! I 'encouraged' it a bit with the toothbrush in some of the harder to reach bits, but it basically wiped off, leaving the underlying black paintwork in as-new condition. A good blast from the garden hose to really clean it out, and job done! Perhaps this was a special case, as the paintwork seems to be a very nice quality, but I'm definitely going to try the brake fluid again, if I buy another two-tone gun. "Can you tell what it is yet?" I'll post on the What Have You Just Bought thread later, but have to rush off to footy now

  15. The lad and I wandered over to Airsoft Plantation on Sunday although, unbeknownst to each other, neither of us really felt up for it when we set off. However, it turned out to be a cracking day; about 120 people were present and a good variety of games were played, covering most of the rather large site throughout the day; the fallback/bomber game was particularly good fun, both when played as the attackers and as the defenders. The level of play was very good overall, with only a few hit taking issues, which were dealt with very robustly by the marshals, which was good to see. It also gave me an opportunity to test the latest iteration of the hand crafted steel COL for my Ares SLR; after a few issues last time out, the very subtle modifications that I had made to its profile paid off and it ran flawlessly. It was only on the journey home that we discovered that neither of us had felt like going in the morning; however, we were both very glad that we had. The next day out will be Tower Airsoft later this month; no game for us this coming weekend as we will be walking and wild-camping on Dartmoor. Guns used: Me: Ares L1A1 Hurricane Kit/G&P SR47 DBoys AKMS Milbro Classic M1911 CO2 (It really is crap!) The lad: E&L/CYMA AK74 CYMA AKS74U ASG Commander XP18 CO2

Managed to get the TM MWS (Laylax hop arm, TM bucking, CrazyJet 250mm barrel, ASG Ultrair ~270fps) out today and test it with Geoffs Super Precision 0.32g (previous winner) vs Warhead 0.28 and 0.32g Gun clamped and held firm (heavy recoil buffer fitted!) and 10 shots at 10m. All the brands / weight were within 3mm variance in the box diagonal measurement! Safe to say the Warheads were leaders in cost/shot even with the postage included. All managed to hit a 50mm circle consistently and sent multiple shots through the same hole so plenty good enough for hitting elbows or knees poking out of cover 😂

  33. Just having a beer after a good day's play at Combat Airsoft Thetford which was really busy. Nice big play fields meant that it didn't feel too congested. My first time using my own rifle so that felt good, she's a big heavy lump though. Gives the old wrists a workout I guess. My new gloves had to come off because I couldn't wind the magazines with them and I need to figure out shoulder transitions with the sling but I worked around it in the tighter areas OK. Highlights; a hilarious "assault" on our position to retrieve the objective. We're dug in, probably fifteen of us. Smoke goes in from the enemy and only three dudes attack and get absolutely hosed with bb's. Poor souls Tried out being a bit sneakier and working with one of our teams bolt action guys to hold down a flank to great success. Normally i charge about a lot more so it was interesting to see how tense the sniping type game is Trying to be a bit steadier in general instead of just racing about was good too, I think helped by the extra range and accuracy. Still had a couple of suicide charges though, including one where I got the last defender but he got me too so I couldn't claim the objective! Gonna go back in a few weeks for their battle-sim event and try being out all day non-stop, sounds a bit intimidating but if you don't try you never know eh!

  34. Hmm, I was going to raise a red flag about ordering directly from SWAT, but I see they've moved to a dealer network now. That's a much better model. Even at that though, I'd want to be very clear about stocking - LT, for example, list the timed grenades as stocked-on-demand, via the obfuscated term "warehouse special". Back on topic, I make custom holders from kydex. It can be bought in your colour of choice from eBay, and a 2mm A4 sheet is enough for making two holders. It's super easy stuff to work with, just cut out this sort of shape with a craft or Stanley knife or strong scissors, heat it in an oven or with a heat gun, and form it around the grenade (the round part being bent upwards to go under the grenade). Once it's cooled, remove the grenade, then if necessary reheat it and reform it inwards a bit so that when cool again it grips the grenade tightly. I don't need any other sort of retention, the springiness of the kydex holds the grenades securely, and they can just be tugged out without fiddling with any sort of strap or snap. Securing it to your rig can be done any way you like, I drill holes as shown above and lace or cable tie them on. Job done.

Ordered some reliable TM VZ61 magazines to use with my JG VZ61 which performed awesomely on my last skirmish day (apart from the mags randomly double feeding) and some viper vx gear arrived so it all matches my russian kit as my 6SH117 vest couldnt fit any VZ61 mags and I want something alot more lightweight!

  39. Another session at District 23 last night. A great night by all accounts. Around 15 or so players all of who were friendly and chatty asking about guns/gear etc. Marshalls were good but briefing could have been a bit more clear on some rules and some were missed out but no real issues at all. This was also the first time i'd got to field my project gun since 'finishing' the build. The first game was just a warmup of Team Deathmatch on the ground floor only. The level of play was great and all players involved were fantastic. The project gun was unbelievable. This thing had RANGE and accuracy i've not seen out of any of my other guns. I could shoot 0.25G tracers the length of the field and they'd only start to dip towards the absolute maximum. Deadly accurate too. During the first game I managed to consistently snipe people off a corner that looked onto 'main street' when they were barely peeking it, but the fun didn't last, the gun developed an interesting issue during the 2nd and 3rd game which i'll detail at the end of the post. Towards the end of the night some people left leaving 8 of us. With an hour left the marshalls decided we're playing 'main street madness' which is essentially one long corridor in the middle of the arena and you must touch the opposing teams wall to win. If you get hit, you take a knee and can be tagged in whenever by a teammate. If you all die, gameover. Format was BO3 and my team won two rounds in a row and with my project gun malfunctioning, I had to rely on my Shadow 2. A particular highlight was being on the opposite side of a piece of cover to an enemy, I moved out, double tapped him, then his buddy who jumped up to get a trade. I quickly flanked a large box piece of cover to shoot another enemy only to get killed by the 2nd guy who had been tagged back in. A teammate quickly traded the kill and won the 2nd and last round for us. The last game of the night was with the main lights off and only the UV lamps left on. The game was called 'Michael' which was essentially one of the marshalls in a bright orange boiler suit who moved around the arena attempting to melle kill you who gets progressively faster as the game goes on. At one point the marshall launcher himself over some waist high cover to land a hit on another player. How he didn't break something i've no idea causing he was zooming around the place like crazy. The dark was interesting as it made weapon lights useful but a huge giveaway for Michael to find you. Only niggle of the night was inconsistency of marshall rules across visits. When I played there two weeks ago, marshalls said multibangs are okay and even have a message from the site on Facebook confirming it. However, last night one marshall (without it being mentioned in the briefing) decided that multibangs are a no-go. Speaking to the marshalls on the field at the time, they say it's only this one guy who has a real issue with them and noone else can understand why he doesn't like them being used as there's no difference to throwing multiple single-bang pyro but it's his rules so that's how it is. Annoyingly, I couldn't use these pyro but couldn't stock up on any others as they were completely out of MK5s and EG67s... Also i'm pretty sure the marshall who doesn't want them used was also playing two weeks ago when I was using them and they said nothing then. Project gun woes; After the first game, the gun started doing something strange. Every 3rd or 4th shot it would skew a BB to the right and high massively as if it was applying loads of hop randomly then it would be fine for a few shots then do it again. Needless to say this was annoying. I took the gun back to the safe zone and stripped it down. I checked the outer barrel and it appears straight, checked the inner barrel and it appears straight. Checked the hop wasn't sticking. I unscrewed the suppressor/tracer unit to find that there's a load of white shavings (not shards or chips (see pics)) on the spring that tensions the tracer unit inside the suppressor sleve but no visible damage. I cleaned it off and reassembled the tracer unit and the gun and went back to playing. The gun lasted another round before it began doing the same thing again. I suspect the BBs are just nicking the end of the suppressor as they leave. Looking at the end-cap of the unit, it's got plenty of white residue on one side of it, this is likely where the BBs are striking it and skewing off. It just doesn't make sense why it's doing it after running perfectly for one game. I could just return it to Amazon for a refund and then get a tracer that has no empty space. Never had this issue with my B&T tracer which was a full length deal. I suspect that the empty space is allowing the BBs to rise/move ever so slightly before the reach the end of the suppressor sleeve causing them to skew off when they just catch it ever so slightly. Inner barrel is clear/clean as is the hop unit so the cause isn't further back and i've used these same BBs in my MP5 and they were perfect. Tracer unit is an Acetech AT2000 with the predator S suppressor sleeve.

  42. So I played what may have been the best game mode I have ever played yesterday. The basic premise is a scientist (a marshal, Sam) that needs to be escorted across the site perpendicular to both team's spawns. He could be shot in the legs to stop him for 10 seconds, and was armed with multiple grenades. So it starts off with yellow having a slight advantage in terrain, so they managed to nab him first. But the best part of the game was Sam playing the part of the most squirrely, annoying, uncooperative scientist of all time, and it was goddamn hilarious. He managed to get away from yellow and ran back to his starting area, so our team (Blue) grabbed him. I let off some red smokes to stop them pushing us, and we still spent spent maybe 10 minutes, at some point literally, dragging him up the hill. We were basically playing a game of gun roulette as we switched out who was dragging him up the hill. At one point we got ambushed and he got away, where the yellow team grabbed him again. And again his being difficult helped us, in that he got away from the yellow, and a couple of my friends ended up lifting him up and carrying him towards the objective. It didn't stop here though, after we got him over the ridgeline he managed to take out his multi-use grenade and we spent another good 10 minutes holding his hands closed, dragging him towards the drop off point, with him occasionally dropping a grenade, killing the escorts, and being pelted in the legs to stop him getting away. All while we had to hold of the yellow team from grabbing him. I was completely out of ammo by the end. I had two pistol rounds and a grenade to help defend, getting ready to just run in with said grenade when we managed to secure the win. And it wouldn't be right to tell you all this without linking to our resident youtuber who uploaded all this action in record time! It was an absolute blast, everything airsoft should be.

  43. Good day on Saturday at Special Ops Allegedly around 60 people in the morning, I think it was a little less than that, but better fewer than too many... I took my DE and my sniper rifle, and also my old TM AK47S and my TM AUG HC for a change. I soon realised I didn't have enough sniper ammo and Carlos didn't sell any, so ditched that idea. In the morning I took the AUG out to play. With the new hop rubber it was shooting nicely on 0.25s, but it was windy day. Luckily the high-ish rate of fire can make up for a bit of wind drift The only problem I found with it was it's such good fun I was burning through the ammo too fast. I swapped over to the DE once I'd used up most of 0.25s, as I'd only got 0.32s with me and I didn't think the TM would have enough oomph to lift those. The DE as usual was great, though it was windy enough that even the 0.28s were moving around a bit A few complaints about bullet-proof players ... it seems there were a bunch of Spanish who turned up and didn't seem to understand what 'one BB' means. Maybe they were thinking about 'Juan Beeby' (baddum-tish) Oh well, I didn't have any problem with them personally, and they left at lunchtime. Carlos fed us cheeseburgers AND hot dogs for lunch. A special mention as to how appreciated the 'free' (i.e. built-in to the upfront fee) tea / coffee, lunchtime food, and unlimited bottles of water (which are out on the game area for easy access) are. Compare that to my previous trip to RIFT where all that stuff was extra. In the afternoon the AK got a run out. I've only got a couple of old TM hi caps for that, and they may be showing their age - a lot of winding to get not many pews. Maybe I'm just too used to flash mags now. The gun shot well but on a 7.4v Lipo pushing the old motor it's a little chuggy. So after a while (and once I'd exhausted the 0.25s in the two mags, and the few left over from the AUG), back to the DE. Burned through the remaining 0.28s in that, and then tried the fresh bottle of 0.32s - wow, they hit nice and hard, and fly straight 👍 The player count was much lower (I think down to 12-a-side at the end), and this led to some great opportunities to do some 'hero runs'. I ran out of battery in my DE at one point (Dan - it seems my 4 round burst fire is as draining as binary), switched to pistol-only and managed a couple of good kills with that. Great fun. Decent weather (it had rained the night before but the mud was laughably minimal compared to RIFT), good people, looking forward to the next one!
