I know we're talking about quiet, but since the thread title is "ideal sniper sidearm" I feel obliged to bring up the other side of the argument of "loud and proud". Yes the TM mk23 is, in my opinion, the best quiet sidearm, but the only time we use our sidearm when sniping is either on the move or if somebody gets too close and even then you're likely not taking out 2+ people if they're close to you with a mk23. So I introduce to you the other side of the debate and say that a compact SMG like an mp7 or mp5k or p90 would also serve as a good sidearm for a sniper. Nowhere near as silent, but if you're moving and don't want to give away your position, trust in your stealth and go to ground. If you're moving and you want to engage, you'll have a much better chance of winning that engagement against 2+ people (though the mk23 is better against 1 person by themselves for sure). Similarly, if they're within your MED and they don't know where you are, you can go to ground and wait for them to pass, or if they do know where you are again you're far more likely to win that engagement with an SMG than a mk23. Basically, a mk23 is a great pistol and I have one and would highly recommend one as a sniper sidearm if you want to go quiet. It's by far my best stealth sidearm and I used it essentially as a primary weapon with a Cyma spring tri-shot as my "secondary" at a private game at the UCAP tunnels; was hilarious people having no idea where they were getting shot from and it went well with my costume as a cyberpunk/noir corporate operative silently taking people out. Even managed to knife kill the juggernaut (knife kills were the only way to temporarily remove the juggernaut and his scary full auto LMG from game). However, it's awful at any kind of quick shooting because the trigger pull is long and squishy thanks to it being a NBB. I also have an mp7 that I carry in a thigh holster, an mp5k I carry on a sling, and more GBBs than I can shake a stick at because I love pistols and I would say they ALL have their uses as sniper sidearms (even if GBB pistols have their main selling point as "they're fun and cool to shoot") Anyway, feel free to also ignore me as your son says he wants something quiet. I'm just highlighting other considerations for sniper secondaries as someone who has been doing it for 17 years or so.3 points

Wear what ever pattern you want just pay attention to where you are (don’t just stop in the wide open for instance)keep still when you don’t need to be moving around and only move when you ACTUALLY need too be moving and I guarantee you’ll be like the ‘Predator’ to 90% of the players on the field , totally invisible ! In any cover movement is your enemy and even the smallest of movements will give you away no matter how good you think your camo is , as is SO aptly demonstrated by pretty much every ‘sniper’ you’ll see in a full on Wookiee suit on game days , just because your wearing a guille suit does not mean you've discovered Harry Potter’s cloak of invisibility ! if you go charging around the site you will be seen ! 🤦♂️3 points

Won't be less expensive, but at least your money will go in the right parts. TDC: wobbly, useless, needs replaced with a Hadron anyway. Barrel: completely unnecessary, stock TM barrel is perfectly fine, so is the STTI Hop rubber: they come FILTHY from the factory, though this does not really affect performance. It's €8 anyway for a new one. Metal slide: useless, expensive and adds a bit of, again, unnecessary weight. All the springs and moving parts on the TM are infinitely better, smoother operation and will last 10x longer. The springs on my SSX23 fucked themselves after less than a year. That doesn't work unless fully assembled, and at that point it's longer and wider than the TM. Back to the OP: Get a TM Mk23, leave it alone for now as it's perfectly useable out of the box with the exception of the hop up adjustment being a tad annoying. At a later date get a Hadron TDC (it's more quality of life than anything else) and maybe a new hop rubber.1 point

120 or 30 rounds mags ???
Jacob Wright reacted to CON10R for a topic
Thanks for all your input guys! I'm playing this Sunday and going to try all my mags at 30 rds plus a 90rd speed loader to see how it goes. I do want to get used to smaller capacity as I plan to get a gbbr in the future. I will update yous all after Sunday how I found it 😎1 point -
It seems to be a maintenance thing, in the belief that it'll keep the bucking material (which may or may not be silicone itself) supple. Which it may or may not do. It's not going to harm them though, and if you have ten year old buckings, and silicone lube to hand, it's worth a try.1 point

120 or 30 rounds mags ???

#MeToo I'm exactly the same, always single shot so a couple of hi-caps will last most of the day, only run minimal rigs so less mags means more options for carrying water etc.1 point -

Tackle reacted to Floperator for a topic
I use hi-caps just because I can't be arsed to carry around 7/8 (or 10!) mags, in fact I might reduce my loadout from 3 mags to 2 because I rarely go through even half a mag in a single game. The vast majority of the time I keep it in single shot mode, in fact on Sunday I only switched to full auto once.1 point -

Ideal sniper sidearm
Rogerborg reacted to Cr0-Magnon for a topic
1.36J! Get 'im @Rogerborg! Also, whoever said you can make the TM MK23 better for less than a Novritsch SSX23 is mistaken. An SSX + suppressor is circa £150, a stock TM is the same. The upgraded inner barrel, bucking and TDC will likely cost you another £50 or more on top. Plus the SSX23 has a nice metal slide and fibre optic sights. I'm no Novritsch fan boy but think it's a bit silly when people pipe up about building a gun yourself for marginally less than he's selling some of his. Especially when you're talking for your son, unless you specifically want the learning experience associated with working on them.1 point -

This. 100%. I'd echo the comments above though, move the dump pouch to either the rear or side (your 8 o'clock or 4 o'clock depending on if you're right or left handed) and on your belt instead of hanging off your plate carrier. Consider a chest rig instead of a plate carrier. Get a better helmet. Maybe look at trousers in a better cut that allows more freedom of movement (like a G3 style for example).1 point -

TM MP5 NGRS Owners
JimFromHorsham reacted to pulguitel for a topic
I love the adapter and stock. I was wondering if a "real gun" adapter would fit into the NGRS. Something like this: https://hkparts.net/product/mp5-94-end-cap-sling-swivel-p115.htm/ and then, a rail could be easily adapted to that cap. THe adapters I've seen for NGRS are 60 euros at least, and this could be a workaround..... Or if there is something in 3D out there.... thanks!!1 point -
Reforger: Operation Grimsky II
Jaylordofwaargh reacted to Skullchewer for a topic
Anyone going to this? They're running three factions, USEC, Bears and Scav. I've signed up for Scav, as it's more my kind of style (I don't do full military reenactment load outs), it's described as a good faction for those new to milsims, which I am, and it's also described as the RP faction, and I've been playing tabletop role-playing games since the 70s. Should be fun, and a test of my fitness level 🤣 https://www.reforgerairsoft.com/introduction-to-operation-grim-sky1 point -
As above, standard gear ratios are usually 18:1. 16:1 will make your gun run faster (not loads more but even so). These are very good https://www.ak2m4.co.uk/internal-parts/gears/zci-gear-set-advanced-18-1 these are at the very least better than the ones that are in there right now https://www.ak2m4.co.uk/internal-parts/gears/shs-18-gearset Set of shims https://www.ak2m4.co.uk/zci-shim-set?search=shim (do your research on YouTube and TAKE. YOUR. TIME.) Get some decent lube and clean the gearbox out while you're at it. B&T MP5 issue with feeding
Bobbybrown reacted to colinjallen for a topic
That would explain it! That piece pushes the tappet plate back, allowing a BB to feed. It is indeed the sector gear, but you would probably be best advised to buy a whole new 16:1 gearset from someone like AK2M4 (allegedly, other purveyors of airsoft bits and pieces do exist), along with a delayer chip to ensure that the tappet plate stays back long enough. Whatever you do, you are going to have to do some shimming to ensure that the gears are spaced properly. There are some very good guides to this online.1 point -
B&T MP5 issue with feeding
Rogerborg reacted to colinjallen for a topic
There are lots of videos that will show you how to open and work on a gearbox; use this as a learning experience. That nozzle should be attached to a long piece of plastic inside the gearbox; this is called the tappet plate and its job is to move the nozzle backwards and forwards. Where are you based?1 point -
B&T MP5 issue with feeding
Rogerborg reacted to colinjallen for a topic
The nozzle should move, as it should be connected to the tappet plate. Where did you buy it? From a shop or from a private seller?1 point -
The bit circled in blue is the loading nozzle and it should indeed move back and forth as the gearbox cycles. Is the gun new ? if so probably easiest to send it back. If you want to fix it yourself though you are going to have to open up the gearbox as the nozzle is moved by the tappet plate which is internal. May have popped off or there may be a damaged part. If you havn't opened a gearbox before then get yourself onto youtube and watch a few videos first, also watch a coupke about stripping down an MP5 as they are different to an M4 and indeed there are several methods of strip down for MP5's so have a hunt for a video that matches your model.1 point
