  1. OP Paramount at Ultimate Wargames Kent. Basic theme was UN Inspectors/arms dealers/FSB/US TF/Aid Groups/hapless civvies/crazed jihadis, somewhere in the middle-east. As one can imagine, the field was confused and confusing. Alliances were formed, broken and formed with suspicion again. Foes became friends and deals with opposing sides were done. The fluidity of play was amazing. Day one, we awoke covered in dust having dossed down in the village. Sleeping bags were rolled up and rifs hidden as the US TF entered and searched the compound in two jeeps. Various villagers and sleeper jihadis crowded around and played havoc with the operation as the aid workers played nursemaid and intermediary. With instructions to delay the TF, the keys to their Landy were nicked, as was a dopey players rif. When they went to pull out (spare keys were found), some silly sod played wounded in the road and delayed them some more. Really the whole thing was hilarious. Great airsoft vibe without a shot fired. The immersion was fantastic. As we had arrived and been assigned straight to our quarters, no one knew who was playing other than our own team members. Meeting up in game mode really worked. Playing terror faction was great as the village construction meant free fruit and coffee, chilling with friends and a few halal beers. The game developed with each faction having its own agenda and pursuing it with vigour. Objectives were found and searched for and various items assembled. By the late afternoon , shots were fired and the arms dealers (I think) and TF were actively at each other. The confusion was palpable and info was eagerly devoured. Various tasks were assigned and attempted. Missile systems were traded, stolen and hidden. Teams set up meetings, ambushed each other and worked together. Ad hoc fire teams were formed among the locals and the village defended. Vehicles probed the perimeter as did drones and spies. Updates became essential. By nightfall everyone was confused and tired, happy and ready for a ceasefire. Drinks were drunk and food cooked. By midnight most were in bedrolls and snoring. Sunday was started with absolute wonder at who had achieved what, who had reached their objectives and who had not. The game became 100% hot with each faction fighting the next. We probed the woods and structures for objectives, fought and made shaky alliances anew. At one point, we ambushed the arms dealers, nicked the FSB's missiles and launched a false attack on the TF. I don't know or care who won, but it was immense fun. At close of play there were conspicuously fewer players and a sense of complete confusion as to who had won. Personally I enjoyed myself immensely. It is somewhat liberating to throw oneself about in fancy dress with a toy gun. In conclusion, the roleplay based roles were done to perfection, the TF/FSB players were superb, they really did have some skills. The terror cell were a blast to play with. The UN/Aid roles were played with much patience and skill. In conclusion, it was well worth the three hour drive and cost. Moans: I experienced one incident of bad hit taking in 20+ hours. I realised that I had been hit as I pulled out of an ambush. I absent-mindedly rubbed a sore forearm as I pulled out from my position only to realise too late that I had been hit. TBF with my nerve damage and the insect bites from the previous weeks camping, the odd strange pain is hardly unknown. I gave myself a 15 min KIA as penance and comforted myself that I must have traded with the last chap that I shot before disappearing. Some of the ambushes could have been better coordinated. If important to the story/plotline these could have been better timed, but so could about 98% of life, so no biggy. Given the complexity of things, bringing them off at all was a minor miracle. Each side lacked snipers. Not really noticed in game but realised later. Given the layout, only one half of the game map would have had limited benefit anyhow. That really is it for negatives. I did spot a women player. She was well geared up and well into the scenario, thwacking various foes from advantageous points and having a ball. If we got a better gender balance at this type of event, we'd all benefit. The immersion, gameplay and fun were outstanding. Good use of technology and vehicles. sides were well balanced and arranged, objectives were well planned and coordinated due to the way the game was planned to unfold. In all I had a great weekend, played myself ragged, had a catch up with mates and drove home knackered. I'll do next year for sure. I am certainly up for the next @SierraBravo event.

I highly recommend getting a dish tray or anything else ot allow you to sort collect and manage your parts as your going (and make it less likely for a screw to fall and never be seen again) I agree with @Lozart on the grip (did the same with my DMR ) not a CYMA shell but alignment with high speed motors will make or break the build

  9. Before anyone gets triggered, I don't care at all if people do or don't wish to do this, matters zero when being shot with BBs vs bullets from a firearm, this is info purely for those who may be interested. For some, if you've never shortened the straps on your rig this may well improve comfort for you in general, but especially when doing any leaning, sitting, squatting etc; as obviously your chest is comparatively a static/solid block of rib cage, whereas your stomach area does the bending and most people's rigs hang low. The basic guide that's banded about for users of common real armour plates in popular modern PCs (JPC, Slickster etc) is that the very top of the plate should be right at the point your collar bones meet at the base of your neck. Most players buy a replica armour/plate carrier of some type and never adjust the shoulder straps, so 90% of the time they'll be lower than they 'should' (emphasis on parenthesis) be if it was real. Again, I know it isn't. Dirty selfie from yesterday's game where, if anything, my carrier is maybe a small smidge high on account of having featherlight fake 'plates' in it and it riding up a bit while in play. But from what I've seen pretty much all combat shirts have similar 1/4 zip length and as you can see about half of mine is covered up. It's actually running down to around the mid point of the English flag. End of the day, if you've never tried it it's totally free to just adjust the straps on the kit you've already got and takes about 1 minute, maybe worth a go. I think this quick and free change can potentially improve the look of a kit by a decent bit without buying anything at all. If that's not of interest though, have a nice evening ✌️

  11. I run pts mags at 120 in my tm416, purely cause I'm a rubbish shot and I need all the ammo I can carry lol. Being serious though, as others have said, in a woodland game against "normal" and hire players I've been out shot by sheer volume of plastic, so 120 rounds is thr minimum I would run. Milsims however I switch to 30 as ammo limited and people pick their shots more.

The buffers I only use on my go-to indoor gun that I run exclusively on HPA. I’ve got the CCT ones but I’d be surprised if there was any functional difference between brands. Running 120% recoil springs and 3 short stroke buffers utter destroys gas efficiency… I can’t even get a mag out of the Battlecat in this set up! It makes for a very snappy gun on HPA though My other two capas are used as sidearms and I value the lock back on empty feature over a marginal decrease in cycling time

  17. I don't have any concrete info either way at the moment... Carlos said he'd have confirmation yesterday - that hasn't happened as yet. If it does happen it'll probably be at a temporary outdoor site at North Crawley (quite nearby) He's also posted a pic of an indoor (barn) site that is "under construction"... Maybe that'll be ready for the weekend? Depends on whether setting up some chipboard walls and hay bales is do-able in a couple of days?

  18. Entirely possible. This was my first real attempt at freestyle shimming (I say that because the Guarder tune up kit for the m14 comes with instructions on how many shims to put where, so that was easy shimming) so I could've done it poorly. I just couldn't believe how noisy it was! Was supposed to quieten the gearbox, not make it assault my ears
    1 point
  19. Helical gears are great when they're spot on. If they're not spot on they're fucking atrocious! The motor insertion could just be the angle of the pistol grip. When I made my MK12 I used an SPR style grip and it didn't matter what I did with the shimming, the motor was a struggle to seat and sounded like a bag of cats. Swapped the grip to an Ergo style one and it's been SO much better.

  20. Experiences with Milspec can vary wildly and it seems to depend on nothing more than the owners mood / stage of drinking as to whether he will be amazing or an outright arsehole. As they barely stock anything now it's probably far less relevant anyway. I've had times where he has gone well out of his way to help post an item and times where he has replied "f**k off" to a simple product question . Both of those experiences were some years ago when he stocked more

  21. Time for another update. Had another go at it last night because my pinion tool arrived and I figured that I could do it now that I could swap out the pinion gear on the motor. Removing the pinion and replacing it with the helical pinion was fairly painless, which could be part of the reason for this renewed confidence. But was it false confidence? At first, everything was going okay. Took the SR-25 apart and got to cleaning out the snot that Cyma lube their gearboxes with. Cleaned it all out, followed a guide on how to shim a gearbox properly and eventually got to a point where my gears were turning nice and easy. Things were going well! I then put it all back together, ensuring to put everything back together properly and even making sure the fire selector was put together correctly this time! Then came the monster pain point. The damned motor. No matter what I tried I just couldn't get the motor into the pistol grip. I wrestled with it for literally hours before calling it at almost 1am and going to bed. This morning I tried again and managed to get it in there, but as soon as I test fired... It cycled. Once. I think the mosfet was like "this battery is low so I'm not working" as the gearbox didn't lock up and it reset just fine after the trigger pull. However, it was LOUD and SLOW. Oh my god was it loud. I must've done something wrong because it shouldn't have been that loud or that slow; the sluggishness could be because of a low battery as the battery I tested was storage charged, but still it was incredibly loud. Louder than my stock AEG m14. So plan is, as it was before, to give this over to my local tech to sort out. I've had it up to here with this build and unless something dramatically changes I am seriously looking at just getting a Wolverine Inferno and a special SR-25 nozzle. If I do that it won't be for a hot minute because it'll set me back £400 by itself and I don't want to spend that much at the moment. Parts for my AEG m14 will be arriving today, so I will do that this evening. I am more familiar with the v7 gearbox and I've rebuilt them before, so I'm confident I can do that one properly with a very similar build to this. If it doesn't impress me, the draw to get a Wolverine Inferno for this build will only increase. 😐

  22. If its a printed part you should be able to get it printed with the sleeve that slides over tail from the receiver extended to the depth you need. If you're not albe to do that. Then I'd grab a hacksaw and trim the receiver to suit.
    1 point
  23. The receiver extension doesn't need to be very long, as the rigidity in mounting the buffer tube comes from the tension provided by the tube's screw into the back of the Gearbox. The extension just keeps the buffer tube centred and straight. I have in the past cut down the receiver extension to 10-15mm to allow for certain stocks and buffer tubes to be fitted snug against the receiver. The pot metal is very soft and easy enough to cut through. I have been experimenting with drop stock designs (both straight and angled) for some time now, and they are useful in situations like yours.

  25. First time out in about a year due to covid, concussions, wife's car needing basically an engine swap etc... RIFT Comsite 2. Very sunny day but just enough of a breeze to cool you without making your shots curve like an Angelina Jolie movie. Lots of players on the deck, i'd say about 150ish. Land Rovers for both teams. Usual gripes of overshooting and hit taking (rentals and seasoned players alike), but due to the weather movements were generally stagnated and lead to teams being pinned down at either point. Until one team decided to do a 50 person attack and basically went from one end of the map to the other. Then with people running out of ammo/water/energy, headed to the car park and the other team countered in similar style. This was kind of the theme for the day of one team getting somewhere due to the other team waving a flag and heading to the safe area - which i don't blame them. I ducked out before the last game as I needed to get back home but the car park was about 80% full still which wasn't too bad. Only moan personally is the turn around time between games. The morning was 2 hour game before lunch, but getting people to the brief area took aaaaages. Personally i had a good day with one rifle that is fresh out of a tech's workshop starting to bed in and the r-hop finding it's groove. The single shot was a bit dodge with it firing a 2-3 round burst coming out of safe, but i think i need to fine tune the pre-cock and active break. New pistol was the tits, and the aliexpress shooters belt worked lovely. 8 fields pistol taco's, for a fiver each once adjusted were as tight as a conservative government helping a poor person,

  27. Im at the stage where a chest rig would probably be more “suitable” than my PC, but having recently purchased a scrote pouch, it does offer a bit of lower protection for my lower belly. So the PC stays for the time being 👍 One of the lads took a video of me last week whilst playing, I realise I look like a Tactical Humpty-Dumpty, which is distressing for all involved 🙁 But only I can fix that

  28. If I were to generalise, not every player who's there to "win" is a problem, but every problem player is there to "win", by imposing their own imaginary reality. Whether that's the essentially silly game of pretend gunslingers (often played to arbitrary and muddled rules that can change half way through), being the highest imaginary rank of tactical genius, or by beating the rules. I suspect Licking Mustard falls into that last group, given the shenanigans he clearly revels in. Me, I'm mostly there to pleasure other men by giving them loud encouragement when they slam their balls in my face.

The screamer was some kid who thought being a cadet made him Geral Patton, and said mate picked him up by the straps on his webbing, carried him forward 10 yards and unserimoniously dumped him on the floor, before telling him to move up.

Ime it's not confined to one particular group, for example as much as we jokingly berate speedsofters a lot of them aren't really that bad, same applies to the milsim types, hpa types etc. The only thing they have in common is failing to take the game seriously enough, or taking it far too seriously.

  35. Mixed bag at Driver Wood yesterday.. to say the least. First off my personal woes. Get to the point my phone is saying 2 minutes to arrival, get to the roundabout to turn down the road the site entrance is on... building on fire at about 8am (only 16C out) fire serv spraying it and road closed, so being outside the M25 that's a 10 minute detour that makes you question if you're ever going to find a way around after a while. Get there, set my bags down, begin tooling up. I made sure to properly and fully charge 3 batteries the night before, that's MORE than enough, test fired both guns too.. did I charge and bring the right batteries to actually fit inside the storage compartment of the gun I want to use? Of course not. So the backup rifle became the one-and-only all day. This is what happens when you don't play often enough to actually be suitably familiar with you own bloody equipment, combined with generally being a dunce. On the site: No pot holes on the short road to the large, smooth hard-standing car park, huge thumbs up. Best setup of check-in I've experienced by far. Biggest safe zone with the best facilities I've personally experienced by far. Most seating I've ever seen and all actually nice, usable and clean. Highest standard of toilets I've seen by a long way, widest range of food available, pretty decent little airsoft specific shop setup, drinking water tap etc. Had a pagoda spraying out mist by the game area entrance all day.. bonkers. Really great props in the airsoft game area, which is a lot of the reason I went actually. Couple of military helicopters, plane, double decker bus, decent wooden towers etc, but for me all spread out too far and not nearly utilised enough in the games. The paintball fields we walked past looked like a ton of fun. Safety brief was short which was nice, but the marshal talking had all the force of character of a wet paper towel, many weren't tuned in (this bloke was my main issue all day really). Boundaries/area not explained at all in first game, was clearly just assumed you were a regular. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, get the 'Meal deal' when booking your space. I know the café could put out some really quite decent food because I saw many other people carrying it over to their tables; the menu is frankly a great, wide selection and well priced. But the 'meal deal' is a burger/hot dog and (get this) chocolate bar and can of coke... absolute fucking garbage idea of a meal when conducting physical activity. Long as you add the salad and sauces which are available the burgher is absolutely fine, not greasy, I've had better foods at sites, but it was fine. However the 'deal' is £5 extra, whereas various other better looking options available on the day only cost 4 somehow? Where's the package deal there, surely that's not how it should work?? Not pleased. Ability to book just half a day if you want is great for many people in terms of having that option, sounds brilliant especially if you live close. Flip side to the above is that the problem marshal couldn't herd the cats at all and teams weren't balanced anywhere near properly post-lunch when at least half left and only a handful turned up. My side was both larger and more experienced. Game just after lunch was a white wash of epic proportions. One single objective area that we locked down the entire time due to team advantage and far more/better cover our side. When I asked for a clarification on the brief of said game, instead of anything even approaching a professional response I was patronised and condescended to like a fuckin idiot; would've loved to kick off an argument frankly given that said brief contained blatantly incorrect info and the insanely simple thing I asked was not in the slightest bit hard to clarify. Final game was quite possibly the worst I have ever played. Problem marshal gave the laziest, most lacklustre 'ugh it's warm and I can't be arsed to do my job' brief I have ever seen. Lasted seriously less than 30 seconds, couldn't believe it. Layout made no sense, no boundaries explained, teams still way unbalanced, didn't work in the slightest, wasn't a game. I basically just knelt by a wooden wall for 45 minutes. I could hear the paintball marshals in other netted off game areas loudly shouting games on/over, music playing etc, happened most of the day. But there were multiple times I didn't even know we'd started playing airsoft; never an issue I've experienced before. The other marshals seemed like decent blokes really, pretty good actually overall. The owner clearly loves the places, you could literally watch him all day cutting wood and building new structures. Place has a ton of potential, many brilliant aspects, just thoroughly tarnished by one lazy, meek, uninterested and unsuitable lead marshal (and the shit meal deal). If I thought there was a chance of getting a refund I'd ask for it and this is the first time I've ever felt that way. Gear observation - young lad wearing one of these (that I 100% guarantee most of you see at least one of at every single game), was complaining all day because the wire from the quick release had broken through it's sheath and was poking straight in to his side. If I could get every new player to skip that phase and get a BULLE MLE to start off I'd be one happy man. Can't imagine how many of those end up in landfill after 2 games, shocking waste of plastic and of people's money.

DPM is probably the most widely used camo pattern in the uk, along side multicam which has been done to death for a long time, yet blends awfully in our woodland environment. One of my team-mates wears pencott greenzone, it's been a long running joke that he's never in any event photographs, purely because no-one ever sees him. If I was setting out to buy new playing gear I'd certainly be looking at the pencott.
