I really like the facilities at Area-66: good access road, hard standing, a generously sized safe zone, well stocked shop, hot and cold food on site, and even a functional permanent toilet block. But whether I actually enjoy the day is down to the dickishness-to-decency ratio among the players who actually show up, and whether the marshals are on the ball that day. And I'd generalise that to any site. It's the people, not the place.7 points -
Having been playing for over 20+yrs and owning an awful lot of different guns and platforms in that time , I will more than happily say bar a TM recoil the new DE mosfet guns(if all the same)are among the best performing guns I’ve ever owned , I picked up a 2nd hand 904G as a “it’s the end of the day and I’m bolloxed ! I need a lightweight gun !” Gun and first time I used it I ended up using it the entire day I think it’s THAT good ! 😱 so yea I’d say go for a totally different platform , and if not yet also change to mid caps from hi-caps so you need to do reloads in game to step up your game . 👍4 points

I bought some 6mm Ammo BBs to test. Shipping was extremely quick; I placed my order late on Friday evening, received the shipping notice email on Saturday & they were delivered on Monday - this was with free delivery option too! These are the 0.30g version, in both the regular and tracer versions. The regular BBs are supplied in a black coloured bag, while the tracers are supplied in a transparent bag. Both bags are completely sealed & resealable - there are no air holes that might allow in dust or any other contaminants from the environment. 6mm Ammo 0.30g Bio BBs Just like my other tests the very first thing I did was sift through the BBs and inspect them for any obvious defects. Unfortunately I found a number of BBs in the pack that had significant surface defects, ranging from minor dimples to larger dents/scratches (and even a protrusion on one of them) - the latter potentially being a big problem as significant defects could damage the hop rubber an/or cause a jam in addition to compromising the performance of those particular BBs. Here are some of the worst ones I found (best photos I could get; my phone's camera isn't very good): In addition to this, despite the pack having been sealed there were a few bits of dust/debris in the pack that had stuck to some of the BBs. I only noticed due to paying such close attention to them (and it's not as bad as I've seen in some other brands that don't come in fully sealed bags) so it's likely nothing to be concerned about but I think it's worth noting. I measured only BBs that didn't have any obviously visible defects. Weight: All but two were slightly overweight at 0.31g (my scales wavered a little between 0.30 and 0.31 on a few of them before settling on on 0.31) Size range: 5.91 - 5.95mm; 4 measured within the 5.95 +/- 0.01mm tolerance. 1 was 5.91mm minimum, 2 were 5.92mm minimum, 13 were 5.93mm minimum, 4 were 5.94mm minimum. Roundness: 1 measured 0mm variation all around, 15 measured with max variation up to 0.01mm, 3 with 0.02mm, 1 with 0.03mm Defective BBs aside these are among the better BBs for consistency and roundness, with 17 being 5.93mm+ and only one having more than 0.02mm variation, although they lean towards the heavier side. These are harder and more brittle than the Geoffs 0.30s, breaking apart cleanly. I did not find any air bubbles in the ones I broke apart. 6mm Ammo 0.30g Bio BBs (tracer) I did not find any BBs with any visible defects in this pack. I did see some kind of minor dust/debris in the bag though, again probably not significant enough to worry about but worth noting anyway. Weight: 15 measured 0.30g, 5 measured 0.31g. My scales wavered between 0.30/0.31 before settling for most of the ones that weighed 0.30g so these all seem to lean towards the heavier side (though not to the same extent as the regular version) Size range: 5.93 - 5.94mm; 2 measured within the 5.95 +/- 0.01mm tolerance. 18 were 5.93mm minimum, 2 were 5.94mm minimum. Roundness: 7 measured 0mm variation all around, 13 measured with max variation up to 0.01mm. These seem to have slightly better sizing and consistency than the regular version, with all measuring 5.93-5.94mm and only up to 0.01mm variation. They are a bit softer and much less brittle than the regular version. I did not find any air bubbles in these either.3 points

Nobody said that they were. Why bring it up? I'm fine for QC rejects being sold at full whack, thanks all the same. Useful information for potential purchasers. I can prove I have fresh apples (how do you like them?), but that doesn't prove that my oranges aren't rotten. Nobody said there was. What a bizarre thing to refute. Well, I know whose reputation and integrity I'll be trusting based on the quality of this contribution.3 points

The VFC SCAR-H selector plate is trash, as is any nylon or other platic ones you can buy, if you use the lever on the right (because you're left handed), the teeth on it get stripped crazy easily. So I found an .stl file of it on thingverse, got it printed in aluminium - it wasn't shaped properly - learned to mod the file myself enough, got it printed again in aluminium (shit is expensive, talking like, £35 for a selector plate). Anyway, here it is. I can post the modded file if anyone wants it. Edit: actually just uploaded it anyway incase anyone comes across this in the future; https://atomicrhino.net/upload/airsoft/scarh/VFC_selector_plate_mk_17.stl.zip Top plate is the stock one, bottom is a nylon printed one I bought from a shop. Teeth broke before the gun even left the house.2 points

Played at a new site yesterday. It started off not so great, my h8r decided it doesn't want to keep the CO2 in anymore and prefers to spew it all out of the valve immediately leaving me without a sidearm (not the end of the world but sad as it was it's second time out and I've just sorted a holster for it), we started with a bizarre escort mission where one of your team couldn't die but had to sit in a wheelbarrow and be taken up a road, teams were really unbalanced with us having lots of rentals and the other side a lot of guys with snipers/dmrs and ghillie suits ended walking to safezone with my mate's brand new g3 that decided to just stop working. Came back out to defend and the guy in the barrow for their side decided to full auto me in the face under 10m with an ARP9, I have to admit I was starting to think an early home and spend the afternoon relaxing with a beer at this point. He also had to have his riot shield taken off of him as it made it near impossible to take out the guy pushing the barrow. they eventually won and there was a lot of grumbling from our side about sportsmanship and the fact that they were wiping the floor with us. next game went a little better ARP9 guy was off sulking (his gun broke and he wasn't allowed his riot shield). Again teams were unbalanced but as they were defending on limited lives we were slowly cracking through them so it felt a little better and not just like being a target on a range. Lunch came and went and ARP9guy got called a few choice words (not by me) when he declared that "I don't aim, I just spray people" I didn't see him after that point he appeared to pack up and leave as he wasn't at his table after the next game. Afternoon games were both pushback and teams had been mixed up leading to better balance, both games were intense and highly fun to play. we started on the attack and clear communication and tactics pushed us through their defence with our snipers able to one counter-snipe but two provide cover so that we could push up and get in their faces, my squad led a huge flank on the final objective meaning the defenders had to fight on four fronts and quickly folded. Second game we managed to hold them off for a decent amount of time picking off the ones that got into range and calling targets for our boys with longer range, they slowly picked us off one by one but you could tell we were tiring them out, as the attacks got slower and the amount of full auto going up, second objective we setup around the castle with sparse defenders inside the castle, they had done a lot of flanking on the first objective so we expected attacks from multiple angles and that's what we ended up with they never got behind us but they hit us from 3 sides but they struggled to gain ground and eventually their attacks petered out with a lack of smoke and suppression they seemed to give up the assault as I assume they were also running low on ammo leading to the marshals to call it early we went back and packed away the atmosphere was better in the afternoon and with people bantering more. My new Specna Arms 416 performed beautifully with a lot more range and accuracy than I expected from an out of the box gun and overall my squad had a lot of fun despite being covered in bramble cuts, we're getting our gear together and improving my shopping list now consists of more mags, fixing my pistol and a scope so I can see my targets a little better2 points -
Had another fantastic day at Worthing yesterday. The m21 still performs amazingly, and the camo and concealment fieldcraft is still working better than most full ghillie snipers. Had a great game where me and my friend (who actually introduced me to airsoft when we were 14 and still at school) decided to hold a flank away from our base and came under fire. Everyone else who came with us got shot and had to head back to respawn, so it was just us, a pair of snipers, against the world. No ghillies needed, just solid camo and concealment practices and teamwork. He held the front with his VSR, while I covered his flank with my m21 (as I had no MED so anyone who got too close to him I could generally hit out). The other two guys we were on comms with came up after a while and we held the flank for the whole game, with only one of us getting hit and it was to friendly fire since even our team didn't know we were there. Speaking of comms, we were all testing our new earmors, since 3 of us are heading to ai500 and ear protection inside is advised, and I love them. I can hear absolutely everything around me, while shielding me from loud bangs that would damage my hearing and the comms setup itself is lovely and super clear when it comes through. The PTT is super solid to clip onto my rig and then find with minimal movement when I'm lying prone. Totally worth the £90 or so. Also managed to test and set the hop and zero the scope for my spring VSR after setting it to 1.1J last week, since I was getting annoyed at the 2.3J setup. It was firing past 60m easily, and I could hit the 60m target literally 10/10 times, so I'm incredibly pleased. 1.1J means no MED, and reaching out to that distance with that accuracy is exactly what I wanted. All in all, the day was a complete success and it was a great Sunday!2 points

As the others members above have pointed out: 1. Your M904e is an excellent bit of kit that does all you ask of it. 2. Deep down, all airsoft guns are the same, they fling bb's, some marginally better than others but throwing cash at them doesn't always guarantee improvement. I agree you should have a backup gun, & yes it makes sense that it should have magazine compatibility with your 904, especially if your loadout limits the size of mags you can carry. the obvious plus to this is if one plays up mid game, it's a two minute job to leg it to the safezone to grab the spare, no fuss or time lost 😊. Your 904 is a stubby gun, why not consider one of the longer variants, 907h for example, set it up as a dmr, pretty it up with magnified sights etc, gives you another style of play on a platform that your familiar with, it's what I'd do, especially if my LCE restricted what mags I could carry. alternatively, if that's not the case, get what you like the look of (subject to positive reviews), me, I'm a sucker for the longer battle rifles, m14/G3/SLR, whatever floats your boat 🤔 PS @Rogerborg I'm nicking that picture, awesome, the truth will set them free lol 👍2 points

Yes, that, especially another M4. Is that the DE with the fire control system? Bursts, binary trigger for speedy-boi shenanigans? That's about all you can really ask from an AEG other than pre-cock, and that's down to the mosfet, not the brand. Time to drop this truth-frag again. I'd be looking at getting something different, even if it's another AEG. A recoil system, a different platform, even raw degeneracy like a P90.2 points

Managed to get a whole day playing with my new (to me) TM Ak74u . As I wasn’t expecting to play I took no pouches , or any usual playing gear. Hello there all you lovely people. I recently found my local paintball site thats a 5-10 minute drive away from me does Airsoft (Mayhem in Abridge). I've been thinking about taking up Airsoft for the past three or so years but everywhere seemed a bit far away for someone who doesnt drive so this seems like the perfect oppurtunity to do something about it. I curently have clothing i use for fishing that i could repurpose as Airsoft gear (Surplus DPM's and Flektarn, an old NVA CHICOM chest rig (not for fishing lol) that i got at a local surplus shop that closed down about 20 years ago, some surplus Ballistic goggles that i was given for no reason and few other basic things). First question is would this be enough? I'd obviously have to hire the gun at the site until i can get registered on the UKARA database. I was thinking maybe i should get some protection for my mouth as i don't really wanna lose any teeth. I was looking at www.deltamikefacepro.co.uk, anyone used these? Any good? Any other suggestions? I know im thinking a bit far into the future but i did have my eyes set on a GBBR and preferably something that isn't M4 related. Years and years ago i took apart a mates deac AKM and looking at vids online the GHK AKM seems very similiar inside. So my eyes were either set on that, a WE L85, a WE G3A3 or a NE Sten MK2. Is this a bad idea to get a GBB straight off the bat? I've fired a few AEGs in the past and the whining gear noise just doesn't do it for me. Still, a bad idea to go for GBB first go or not? I know getting hold of a GHK or WE is a problem in the UK at the moment but this purchase probably wont be until the new year anyway maybe. TBF i dont mind ordering from Samoon or KYAirsoft if it comes to it. Anyway any advice is much appreciated.1 point -

The game started out with the ammo dumps closed and you had to complete tasks to activate them , has to be said was bloody good fun !1 point

Those look like the non-"PMR" BF-888S models, so you were right to set them up for PMR channels. I reckon the only actual difference between those and the BF-888S "PMR" / BF-88E is the fixed antenna, and that the PMR/88E come with the PMR channels pre-programmed in. Now that I read closer, it looks like they're set to "low" power, as you've done on yours. At 0.5W that's still more than the notional PMR 0.25W limit, but not so much that it will ever be an issue. I've just set up my UV-5R for a bunch of frequencies using the programming cable, but to be honest, the only thing I'll ever use are those PMR channels. I programmed in a bunch of other stuff just for giggles, but really I don't want to risk transmitting on them, so I'll just remove them now. If I buy or recommend any more sets, I reckon they'll be those BF-888S PMR / BF-88Es, which look to be ideal for what most airsofters need.1 point

Beat shift, I don't believe the UV5Rs have it but then again I'm not too familiar with what it is.1 point -

Hmm, I hadn't looked into the 888, but they're really quite interesting. There's an original BF-888S which runs at 2W and 400-470MHz, but they also do a BF-888S "PMR" version, aka BF-88E, with a fixed antenna but still running at 2W. From what I can see, they've basically pre-programmed it to the 16 analogue PMR channels in the 446.0 / 446.2MHz PMR range, and called it PMR. It's still re-programmable though, if you want. https://www.baofengradio.co.uk/2x-bf-888s-pmr446-walkie-talkies-long-range-two-way-radio-license-free-with-earpieces/ So they're not strictly speaking PMR, and should only be used for licensed frequencies. But I do agree that they're a smart practical choice as you won't accidentally stray off of PMR frequencies and bother anyone (unless you go out of your way to reprogram them), you'll get the extra range, and the fixed antenna makes them look indistinguishable from a PMR. USB charging, nice. Cheap too, and even cheaper in bulk. I see why you went for them, they make a lot of sense. All the functionality of a UV-5R that anyone would want for airsoft, without any of the messing around.1 point -
Once you've got a good performer other other pewpews are just a different shape (which can be nice to vary) As Tackle said, maybe consider a different style of play with a longer DMR. Or you could get into recoils with the NGRS, BOLT or Lonex BAW (if you can find one)1 point

indeed, with the right tweaks a budget gun can generally be gotten to the same standard of performance as premium guns, at least for the fundamental task of lobbing small balls. what you'd want from a more premium gun is either aforementioned tweaks to already be there (for those who don't want to mod their own stuff), or for there to be an improvement in external quality. agreed but then i've never understood the people who's collection consists entirely of m4's just with different accessories.1 point -

UV-5R needs the licence as said but BF-888s use PMR frequencies which do not need a licence. (They are technically over powered to be fully legal but not heard of anyone having a problem with em) I saw a video about Baofeng radios which said that they often come with random frequencies used for testing so should be reprogrammed to the correct ones. But a friend I talked to at last game said he didn't change his and seemed to work fine. For my 888s radios I got a programming cable (£4) and changed to analogue PMR frequencies just to be sure.1 point

Yup, there's no reason that EU sellers can't add UK VAT at the point of sale, on any value of order. AliExpress can manage it. If they don't think it's worth their while to get set up to do it, that's fair enough, but given that the alternative is £140 minimum orders and the clown show of Customs and Border Farce, I can see them losing most of their UK market once word gets out or people have been stung once.1 point -
There's the thing, I'm not a customer, nor am I likely to be, I rarely use anything other than iron sights, it's airsoft, the ranges involved generally negate the need for anything else, so most of the time people want to make things look purty. ps. Going back to the first post, it seems the sellers pretty unprofessional to say the least, resorting to name calling (???) & tit for tat reporting. bit childish, if your a business seller you should be prepared for questions regarding your merchandise, & be prepared to prove 100% the quality of said merchandise without stropping. not unlike your insistence that these thread be taken down or your "telling" lol 😂1 point
