To me it's the "please pay by f&f". I do have a few ads (not on here for obvious geographical reasons), on all of them I recommend to pay via g&s (sending an extra 4% to make up for the PayPal fees). The amount of people who pay by f&f is unreal though, when I ask them why they always say "my friend/touchy uncle/inbred cousin told me to because it's a courtesy"...4 points

There’s so much stupid around ”Friends and family as a courtesy” !!!!!!!! Not very courteous to PayPal to use their software, computers, financial services and integration with banking for free. The courteous element is that they offer a no fee service with Friends and family …… and then people wonder why they have problems when things go wrong3 points

100% I got fat through injury followed by bereavement. I felt shitty and stopped training, I stopped thinking of attending classes etc too. My work became more sedentary. I comfort ate. I found getting back to a healthy diet much harder than quitting smoking. Even buying petrol tonight tested me. All them bloody chocky bars I could smell! Good luck to anyone trying to stay healthy atm.2 points -
Something like a Scorpion Vz61 or Mac10 AEP might be a better compromise though more expensive and still not as good as an AEG. I agree with the consensus that gas pistols are more effective and certainly more fun to use. If you want something for CQB you can't go wrong with the good'ol MP5 AEG 😎2 points

Yeah, the low FPS with no real way of bringing it up significantly hurts their viability; you really need to use .2s in them which are horrendously inconsistent (the lightest BBs I use are .25s in my Cyma spring tri-shot which has no hop up). Also, as @remus says, they're incredibly slow to shoot, compared to a GBB that generally will have a snappy response unless it's got a metal slide and it's winter and you're running lower powered gas in them (that's a lot of conditions). I run TM GBBs with their plastic slides and they're snappy all year round, I just use green gas in the winter and 144a in the summer and they're perfect. Also, there are NBB pistols like the mk23 that are also incredibly reliable all year round. They're also snappier, quieter and they shoot harder than AEPs. If you want something reliable as a secondary, a NBB gas pistol, short spring shotty or some sort of small SMG that is still an AEG like a P90 or mp5k are your best bets. I don't think AEPs will ever eclipse those options.2 points

Go VSR. I'm not biased at all in my opinions on the matter. Totally impartial. *hides both VSRs* Seriously though, VSRs have a silly amount of aftermarket parts that are really good. You can take a large number of different approaches to upgrading and there are a lot of combinations that work really well. There are other platforms that are really nice too, but I can't comment on them as I haven't built any of them; next boltie project I'll do will either be a TM L96 or a KJ m700, but they're low on the priority list! In terms of what type of VSR to go for, both clones and TM have their benefits. I've found there are tiny inconsistencies between clone VSRs and the TM one, but they're generally not a problem. I think the most I had to do was loosen one of the screws that holds the stock to the receiver so the Action Army magazines I like to use would click into place. I also have a Maple Leaf receiver that doesn't like my JG stock and sticks out a little bit, but I just kept the stock receiver in my build because it's fine. Oh, also, if you're looking to HPA it in the future and want to go the route of having a CO2 adapter in the stock, the TM stock requires a little modification (sanding down the interior) as it's pretty thick. However, unless you know you want to go into the world of the boltie, you'd do better with a JG or Cyma. Why? Because all you really need to do with them is slap a Maple Leaf hop rubber and nub into them and you'll have a boltie that will perform decently enough; swapping out the hop unit for the Action Army one and swapping the stock barrel for a tightbore are advisable, but not necessary. Other than that you can just run them stock until you decide where you want to go or until the stock parts give up, as the JG starts at around 1.8J (at least mine did) and the Cyma is supposed to be around 2.2J, which is perfect. It's the power upgrades that really cost a lot, so if you can avoid doing them to start with, the better. However, the stock internals will eventually give out, but it will give you the time to get some trigger time with it and decide if you want to dive in fully, or if you want to keep it as a side thing that you don't want to spend too much on (because building the "perfect" boltie isn't cheap... Trust me)2 points

The words "good" and "AEP" are pretty much mutually exclusive. My son has a CYMA AEP, can't remember the exact model but it was not cheap (way more than £50) as it has a MOSFET and was one of the "better ones", however it's hideous compared to a gas pistol. The trigger response is glacial, slow to the point where you'd never shot first in a one on one, and it chrono's at around 220 FPS on 0.20's. It's just gathering dust now as he has a WE G17 Gen 4 and an AAP-01 and is happy with gas. I've seen videos of the Tokyo Marui G18C AEP which appear to show it having a much better trigger response than my son's CYMA, to the point where it appears to be a genuine option, but it would be a bit risky taking a punt without being 100% certain. Edit: Also the CYMA pistol is using a LiPo battery. Edit 2: It's this one... https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/cyma-cm-122s-mosfet-edition?pv=114612 points

Usual answer, only get an AEP after you've tried one and liked it. They're heavy, bulky things with fat grips, the semi response isn't great even on a lipo, and sub 0.4J makes them suitable only for CQB or going into structures. I've sunk a fair bit of of time and money into my CM.123 (lipo, rewire, bearings, heavier spring, trying to sort the air seal) but never got above 0.5J, or a trigger response close to that of a GBB, and, crucially, there's none of the blowback fun factor. So now I just strap my Galaxy MP5K to a leg panel and have something that's light enough to forget about but shoots 1J+ and is just about usable as a woodland primary while having most of the advantages of a pistol, and it's also upgradeable with AEG parts. Sadly, stocking is patchy, and we can only buy what we can buy. But on that, I'd be surprised if you can find a mosfet CYMA for close to £50 and in stock. Any hints as to where?2 points

AEP’s work fine in CQB where your close in and the contact ranges are so much shorter than woodland but the minute you step outside of the ‘up close and personal’ of said CQB then they become about as much use as a dick on a rocking horse . Simple as that really .1 point

[OK, let's try this again] Just for giggles, I fitted a TDC to my AEP and it easily over-hops 0.43g. Then you can run up to your target and let them know that the BBs will be along in a minute or two. But yes, at 0.4J you'll be using 0.2g, or 0.25g at most, and if you get a hit at a real (rather than airsoft) 30m, go and buy a lottery ticket.1 point

There are certain pistols that work quite well in winter. As mentioned the MK23 is highly regarded. Keeping mags warm is the key. Red/Black gas can provide enough power for most cold days. There are a few downsides to Co2 power. 1. More expensive than green gas. 2. Much higher pressures so failures can be more catastrophic. 3. Magazine leaks can be very expensive to fix because when testing if a valve is fixed you will waste an entire gas bulb if it still leaks. 4. Harder to manage usage. You can't top-up when you want. You have to empty the gas bulb before replacing so you might run out in the middle of a game.1 point -
Suggestion on a AEP
Druid799 reacted to Tactical Pith Helmet for a topic
I enjoy using a CYMA CM.123 (I think) 1911. I only use it for CQB with a drum mag. It's silly and I like it and with a Lipo its not too shabby response wise. My lad's Skorpion with a Lipo is a much better TBH. Quite a few people always want a go with the thing at day's end. For the once or twice a year I go to CQB, the AEP is a real laugh, for the rest of/95% the time, I use a TM gas 1911; but... in the years that I've owned the thing, I have never used it in a game. I've modded it it and cleaned it and carried it, but not once have I taken it from the holster in anger. It always goes through a mag with no issues at the end of the day as I unload it into various oil drums. pallets etc. £65 ish CYMA shottie, is top fun. Folding stock short barrelled AK? Loads of fun CQB or woodland site. Mk23 - complete classic, excellent to use. I can recommend the CYMA aep, but there are other options.1 point -
I won't go into my opinions on DMRs (TL:DR: I think it's pointless. 1.1J is enough. However, I also know some people love DMRs, so play your way first and foremost), but if you're looking at a platform to upgrade to one, I'd just say go with what you like the look of. For example, I love m14s and I have two of them, despite them being an absolute ball-ache to work on, despite me probably being able to get similar results with an AR-15 based rifle and their easy V2 gearboxes. If you like the rifle, you're more likely to use it, even if it's not the most optimal, and that comes down to personal preference. I love my US weapons, for example, but one of the guys I get a lift with to my local airsoft site loves Russian kit which I think it mostly hideous outside of a simple AKM or AK47 If you plan on doing any milsim, filmsim or period airsoft, I'd advise going with something that is a DMR in the real-steel shooting world, as some a lot of these events will require it and even in a skirmish setting, some sites will be miffed / not let you use an ARP9 with a drum mag that is locked to semi at 1.6J (and I don't blame them. Not entirely).1 point

I love using pistols, even in woodland games. Getting kills with them is just so entertaining. I have several including 2 x ASG P-09's, which even in cold weather shoot very reliably for 4-5 mags at around 330fps. However in hot weather they can be a bit too powerful, so I use my Umarex Glock 19X or one of the TM's. I've tried AEP's in the past, even including the newest CYMA with MOSFET and I hated it. When I'm in close and split seconds count, I don't want my pistol whirring up to fire when I pull the trigger before shooting a measily 220fps. Show me a brand new design which fires at least 300fps and shoots almost instantly.1 point -
Following the thread title: The WE Browning Hi-Power MK3 Its BAD but I love it anyway because...... its a Hi-Power MK3 😄 (To avoid breaking the striker as so many have, the slide has to be racked before inserting the mag)1 point

I use silicone grease on the slide and spring guide. A small amount of silicone oil on all moving parts. Mags do need green gas but not pure propane. (Check them every month or so as they may lose gas slowly)1 point

Hi all, please forgive me if I have posted this in the wrong section. Recently I posted a wanted advert up for a GBBR G28 The next day I was contacted by a member Dannywill (danielwill###@#####.com) who said he had one and that I should email him. it all seemed very good I asked him for some pics and he sent a load through it was a good deal, said he had recently broken his back and just wanted rid of most of his collection. He wanted a pick up but would post if needed but he was in Thurso in Scotland (the southern most tip) I agreed to by the rifle but said I would only pay via pay pal as the forum has advised me not to do bank transfers. He agreed but said “I'm presently having some technical hitches with my Paypal but my son is here to help me with his Paypal, Kindly let me know when you're ready to proceed with the purchase so I can send you the paypal address you will make the payment to.” Red flag No.1 So I asked for his phone number just as a back up but then he sent me this. ”Here's the paypal address you will make the payment to, ongoloerick@#####.com , Kindly make payment via family and friends, and please include your contact information and shipping address in the next mail. Thanks Daniel Wilson, ###### Crescent, Bettyhill,Thurso #### 819 334 #####” Strange I thought that’s not a UK number and so I checked the paypal and it only accepted $ USD I pushed him on it and said I would have to speak to him on the phone before I would send any money and that the phone number he had provided seemed not to work to which he replied. ”My phone is bad Sam, it accidentally fell of while in water while cleaning an hot water tank rupture I had on Monday, I think I will get a new phone once I had some cash on me.” It was getting more dodgy by the message I asked him again for a number to which he sent another American number saying it was his son who was over from America to look after him after breaking his back. I told him I’m not giving him any money and at which point he called me from an phone number in Great Falls Montan USA and was even more sketchy on the phone. I said to email me a picture of a utility bill or junk mail with the address he had given me on it to which he refused. He then kept calling me from the same Montan number demanding I Pay. He told me he would right my name on a bit of paper next to the rifle but never sent it this would only prove he had a G28 not that it was in Scotland. his last message was as follows “Sam, How I Wish you Know me personally, you would really no am a man of my word, My Son Eric is a student in the USA, he has only been home to take care of me since I had an accident if you doubt this, I would advice you to come for a pickup, I will be waiting for you right in the front of my house or you make half payment and if you refuse to balance me up after receiving the goods on your end, I will filed up a case against you, let me know if you're okay with this” I never replied. We then found an advert from October 2020 with the exact same description and pics that he had sent but collection from Bedford. we contacted the original seller from the 2020 advert who assured us it was sold in 2021. He was pissed they had used his images as part of a scam and reported the guy. This is just a warning to other to be very careful when buying stuff and if anything seem even remotely dodgy don’t do it!!! and to the mods please look in to this and ban Danny Will! Some pics attached.1 point

Well, they do work, and I have got hits with one (and some people even called them!). But as @Fatboy40 said, the trigger response is slowwww, you can actually hear them winding up on semi. I did get significantly better response when I shoehorned in a 1200mAh 25/50C lipo, full size Deans, and fatter wiring from battery through to motor. No mosfet, but those just take the trigger contact resistance out of the equation. I say better, but it'll still be out-gun-slung by anything except the limpest of AEGs. It was a fun experiment, as was playing around with the spring as the gearboxes are a wonder to behold. But the tiny motor and cylinder always limit what you can achieve with them. But... they do work.1 point

It's pretty simple: AEPs are shit (even TMs). If you are going to bother with batteries and gearboxes, then the best option is a compact AEG like a mp5k or even the utter shit Ares CCP. At least you won't have to deal with tiny gears or other nonsense. On a side note: gas magazines don't require a degree in quantum physics to maintain, also not yeeting them on the ground when reloading helps1 point

My village PO charged me £16 for a standard-sized RIF box but with a heavy E&L AK plus a bunch of metal mid-cap mags taped to the side (just under 6Kg). She also knocks off another 15% because I have a Rewards4U card from ParcelForce (ask at the counter or apply online - free with no requirements). Total price was a smidge over £14. Last plastic-bodied RIF (<5kg) I sent cost £11 with the 15% discount via PF48. I've checked the pricing on PF website and it hasn't changed since I last sent a RIF in April.1 point -
Galaxy MP5k, love the clean classic lines of this little gem and needed something fun for evening cqb. Played a game with it stock however and it was fairly lackluster. Added a tracer unit, new ht motor and better lipo. Second game session with it last week and what a difference, great little piece of kit. The rear sling mount broke quickly so have drilled that out and replaced it with an old keyring. Also added a tritium vial to the front post, great idea nicked from a few pages back.1 point

This is the only way my local post-mistress will accept a RIF to send - no additional compensation can be be applied and she reads the rules as £100 cover only, so that's the way I've been sending them. I tell her 'low powered air weapon for sporting use'. I would wager that they would just retort with this part of their policy and politely tell you to jog on. That pretty much sums up every RIF.1 point -
Honestly, if you're using 0.28 the flat hop, rhop, shop et al are probably not worth the effort. They're all designed to help lift heavy ammo at high FPS and originated among the bush wookie crowd. The Maple Leaf rubbers are way better value, especially when you consider that an shop or rhop will wear out REALLY quickly by comparison.1 point

Yep, I used to do a LOT of mountain biking (back in the good old days of tiny frames and long, whippy seat pins) then I got a job commissioning away from home a lot and eating in hotels. Put on a LOT of weight. Few years back I got sick of my face wobbling when I walked so I lost 4.5 stone (portion control and calorie counting, no exclusions). Then my Mum died and I fell right off the wagon. Then smashed it into firewood and burned it. Put on anxiety meds that have a reputation for hindering weight control, then Dad developed Alzheimer's so 3 stone back on now and starting back down the road of eating better. So far I've knocked most of the snacking on the head and a couple of pounds have shifted. Exercise is a bit limited because all those years of mountain bikes with clipless pedals with bugger all float have knackered my knees and decades of being sat at a desk or in a car have screwed my back (software engineer then sales). Still, I managed it before so I'll do it again. Weight loss is as much about mindset as it is about what you eat!1 point -

Worked on my buddies KWA SR-16 yesterday. Its an old gun, so it needed work internally and externally. Internally it got a Gate Titan, a new M100, and while I am yet to test its range I have both Prommy purples and Maple Leaf Macrons for it should it need a bucking. Gears, shimming, piston, cylinder, and barrel were done by me a few years back and look fine. Externally he wanted to go two tone, so new G&P rail covers (I prefer the dimpled ones but the blocked were half off so he wanted those), new PTS EPG, new sling mount, and I loaned him one of my good EOTECH replicas, real MBUS irons, PTS EPM1-S, and my two tone Rogers Super Stock for the photo. Before: After: Also my Bingo m249 “Sunfish” is externally complete with the new optic. A fully trademarked 1.5x-6x ELCAN SpecterDR in bronze, with a RS ELCAN 1.5x-6x killflash cause this thing was pricey and the last thing I want is to have it shot out. For those of you who dont know Sunfish was my first HPA gun, and is the first m249 Bingo Airsoft Designs did. For those of you who watch AirsoftAlfonse, his HPA 249 is also a Bingo though newer than mine. We run them together sometimes. I bought it non-working and fixed it up over time, having no idea what I was doing. She has the oldest Polarstar LMG Fusion Engine in the US and possibly the world according to Polarstar themselves. They dont even make the solenoids for it anymore - I have to write up Polarstar and get them to make me custom ones whenever one fails. She recently got upgraded to Gen 3 electronics, and I custom wired in Bullgear equipment to use Bullgear m249 mags, so no more weak feeding box mags. I need to give her another once over inside in preparation for the Fall MilSim season - she seems to be using too much air and the spread is less than ideal. Hopefully its just a bucking change, but who knows.1 point
