  1. I am grateful to all the people who contributed with helpful answers. Thanks to their advice, I decided to approach one of the retailers and explain my situation to them via email. Fortunately, the Airsoft retailer responded positively, allowing me to send the required photos ( My airsoft pictures ) This is excellent news for me as I can now avoid purchasing a second-hand or two-tone airsoft gun. I am delighted to have received such a warm and friendly response from everyone on this platform. I hope to find the same camaraderie and guidance on the airsoft field as well. live in Henley-on-Thames and have recently moved here. I have two options to choose from Highwycome and Reading. I plan to give both a try and hopefully find my ideal team in the UK for a long-term. @RorySending RIFs to Europe via airplanes is a viable option. However, it can be challenging to send them to the UK for non-citizens. I have attempted to send them myself, but I encountered several diplomatic demands via email that made it difficult to proceed. Perhaps there are alternative ways but we dont know yet.

Hello and welcome to the money pit.🙂 Have a look at 'playairsoft.co.uk' that will list sites near you. No you don't need to buy any thing to start with but a pair of boots with ankle support and a good pair of ballistic rated goggles/glasses are a must have. Just search on t'internet for Airsoft eyprotection but make sure they have an ansi z87 +1 rating. You will have to contact your nearest site and book a game as a rental player and the site will provide you with a gun, ammo, face protection/mask they probably will have eye pro for sale but get your own to be on the safe side. Wear some old clothes but make sure your skin is covered. Enjoy but be prepared to spend lots lol Regards Hey I was already typing all that! 😉

Hi, Have a look here for local sites - playairsoft.co.uk First couple of times you play you dont need to buy anything. You can rent it all from the site. Once the bug has bitten you though, a good set of eye protection and a decent set of boots should high on your purchase list.

On the subject of disability there was a player at awa (didn't get his name unfortunately) who played in the woods in a wheelchair. I saw him fall sideways off a pallet bridge once when his wheels slipped on moss. I watched him throw himself out the chair to the ground and pull the chair Infront of him as cover. I watched a complete wanker call this out as cheating, no seriously... He can't do that! He's using his wheelchair as a shield! Great attitude and had a blast. Everything has a work around if you speak to the site. But I'm sure there will always be that one dick that claims somehow it's an advantage.

  9. UKARA is a good concept but, as you have probably noticed, some players and retailers still attempt to find ways around it. Laws tend to be written without such fine delineation as that would result in unnecessary complexity and inconsistencies.

  12. A farmer drove to a neighbor's farmhouse and knocked at the door. A boy, about 9, opened the door "Is your dad or mum home?" said the farmer. "No, they went to town." "How about your brother, Howard? Is he here?" "No, he went with Mum and Dad." The farmer stood there for a few minutes, shifting from one foot to the other, and mumbling to himself. "I know where all the tools are, if you want to borrow one, or I can give Dad a message." "Well," said the farmer uncomfortably, "I really wanted to talk to your Dad. It's about your brother Howard getting my daughter Suzy pregnant". The boy thought for a moment... "You would have to talk to Dad about that. I know he charges £500 for the bull and £50 for the pig, but I don't know how much he charges for Howard"

Welcome. The best way to get started is to book a game at a local site. Check out https://playairsoft.uk/ to find sites in your area. As for what to buy I recommend renting for your first 3 games as the site will provide you with a gun and face protection so all you'll need to have is decent footwear (many outdoor sites insist you wear boots not trainers as they provide less grip the risk of twisting your ankle is far higher). There are laws governing the sale of airsoft guns so without a site membership you'll be stuck with having to buy a brightly coloured 2 tone gun (assuming you're 18 or over). Renting also means you'll be able to get a better idea of what suits you

It's with the mag lifted, yes. Yeah, it'll dry fire like it's cycling. I did also note that on empty it wouldn't lock back (It does on my m16), not sure if the L85 is designed to do so? Before the tape, yeah it had some play in every direction. Now it's solid 😂

I'd considered the Novritsch ASPC 1.Obut it only comes in one size and being a bigger lad, wanted something better suited to my frame. It should arrive by the end of the week so I'll send an update with my thoughts.

  19. The defences in legislation are: museums theatrical film/TV production historical re-enactment in the service of the crown The legislation goes into further details on the requirements Airsoft skirmishing is an additional defence, not part of the core legislation https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2006/38/section/37 Cosplay is not a defence, however ‘professional cosplay’ in certain circumstances can fall into theatrical After many years of wondering what JustCos actually provides I purchased JustCos membership to see the insurance policy (and still was not provided with the policy) after another forum member used JustCos as a route to buy a RIF - they had to provide a photo of them playing airsoft for the retailer to accept the sale (therefore the retailer ‘accepting’ JustCos doesn’t actually accept the ‘defence’) (I was eventually refunded and my JustCos membership cancelled because I was ‘too stupid’ to understand what JustCos actually was UKARA etc are not specified defences, but are a route in which retailers can justifiably document a buyers defence. Any retailer can accept whatever they like, one even had a tick box for buyers to state that they intended to play airsoft skirmishing Certain retailers are only paying lip service and just want the sales

  20. There's no offence committed by purchasing[*], or attempting to purchase, within the UK. If you can persuade someone to sell you one, then it's legal for you to buy it. It's entirely up to sellers what they accept as a defence, as they're the one committing the offence of selling. Sportsman Association / Shooter's Rights / JustCost are all bogus non-defences, but that's their problem, not yours. Or some sellers accept Military Vehicle Trust membership to adduce the re-enactment defence. The other thing you can do is contact a retailer directly and provide some evidence that you have a history of playing airsoft. It's entirely up to each seller what they accept. [*] Somewhat bizarrely, it is an offence to modify a non-realistic imitation firearm into a realistic imitation firearm, but not to buy it. But you'll never find anyone who cares.

  21. Locally, its about £25 rental, vs £15 walk on - so your three games to get UKARA would only cost you an extra £30. If your local sites are much more expensive than that, why not just buy a cheap two tone, and sell it on once you get your UKARA?

Most airsofters are fucking deaf anyway as if they listen to the saftey brief or listen out for hits 😂 But I wonder if it's worth looking up a laser tag site near you, I hear the the gear they use now has a shock/ vibration vest that are better than the crap from the old days so when you get "hit" so he can feel it, That way he can experience the same sort of thing we do and he will be a bit more safe and still run around and shoot guns with you and you can use it as a stepping stone/practice to get him to airsoft

  28. This is a very fair point and there's another thread on the forum where someone loves their 416 AEG. I was very close to buying a used one from Acton Hobbies, because the externals are so good, but chickened out in the end. YMMV... it's down to luck in the end, but that's the case with most airsoft RIFs tbh!

    We L85 Mag Issue

Mag catch seems okay in person, sadly I don’t have another to test. I did notice a scuff mark on the BB’s, like a small black line which is the same size as the nozzle arm so I’m assuming that’s a part of the problem. So far, I’ve taped all 3 mags and they all work and feed fine (And still fit/feed in my M16A1 😀), so I’m going to run it as is for the time being until either the mag catch fails or the nozzle and then replace both!

My son (12) is happy with the range using .28's at the moment, I'm sure we will be upgrading the internals at some point though. My worry with heavier springs is his ability to cock the gun. When/if I get to have a go with the gun in the field I will get a better idea of what needs to be done. Thanks again for all the info, its a learning curve for me.

  33. Thank you Allow me to clarify that I am fully committed to upholding all rules and regulations, especially those concerning firearm laws, I do not try to bypass anything. However, I'm interested in understanding if there are any provisions for experienced airsoft players like myself. Several friends from Spain, Sweden, and Turkey, along with myself, are keen on participating in the National Airsoft Festival in 2024. Unfortunately, it appears they may face challenges bringing their own guns due to stringent border regulations regarding RIFs. Around whether international airsoft players must solely rely on renting equipment or if there are alternative arrangements, such as gifting, available to them. I'm somewhat perplexed because while UKARA is designed for anyone interested in airsoft, I'm uncertain if there are distinct limitations or exemptions for non-UK players aiming to participate in the UK. I've heard that some airsoft players go for two-tone guns, but I'm not quite confident about the buying and selling process that goes along with it. It appears my main option is to proceed with the £120 to expedite obtaining my UKARA, which I find somewhat expensive. Attending games in my area typically costs £25-30, with an additional £30-35 for gear rental, totalling an extra £120-135 plus the time and effort of participating in three games with potentially subpar equipment. Additionally, I'm curious about the potential implications of purchasing a RIF second-hand. Do I still need UKARA for such purchases? Many thanks. @WonkyBoi @novioman Thank you guys, I had chance to read your answers after posted my new post. I will have a look and check the options for these sportsman also got my answer already from @noviomanfor my second hand buying options. Cheers !

  34. You can buy airsoft guns quite legally without UKARA, the Sportsman Association membership is accepted by almost every airsoft dealer for instance. Have a look at the Firesupport site which lists all the defences accepted. See below.

    Rail Barrel Combo

Hi Lozart! Great to connect again. (need to meet at Camp Bravo one day) Yes the Mk18 look is what I am after, more specifically with this silencer as I am currently running it; link Appreciate the insight. I will therefore assume that both of these will work nicely in unison - https://www.airsoftzone.com/en/p/daniel-defense-mk18-9.5-inch-10169306000/ - https://www.powair6.com/en/aeg-outer-barrel/15423-5ku-103-inch-aluminum-outer-barrel-for-m4.html Thanks again. Will run a 247mm inner barrel for this.

    Ukara for non UK airsofters

To expand on what @Colin Allen put so succinctly, not really. There are places to play that cost less than £60 a pop to rent (Red Alert for example is £50) but to get your UKARA it costs what it costs I'm afraid. Plus, let's be honest if you've been playing plenty you're not going to want a) a gun as cheap as three rental sessions or b) just one RIF.

  38. There is an argument to be made that if you're not going to do anything to a stock boltie then you might be unable to fully hop a heavier BB, or you have to apply so much hop pressure that you drop the muzzle energy to the point where a lighter BB would end up going further. Which is why I was careful to say "starting with the same energy at the muzzle, and assuming that the hop can impart enough spin". The thing is, a stock Tokyo Marui VSR is likely to be shooting at something comically low like 0.72J (280fps with a 0.2g). I'm not sure if OP is rocking a VSR10 clone, or if it's pre-meddled, or if it Joule crept upwards rapidly with heavier BBs. Either way, there's only really two sensible ways to go with it: tune it down to under 1.4J, or up to 2.3J shooting the heaviest BBs that it will hop at that muzzle energy.

    We L85 Mag Issue

Just thinking back, when I got the rifle stripped down the first time for the normal degrease/regrease there was a lot of BB fragments around the BCG from what I assume was from when I tested it the moment I got it. It hasn’t happened since, so I think tomorrow I’ll disassemble the BCG and check it all. Possibly replace the return spring too as it’s a bit sticky

  42. Most CQB sites don't like heavy BB's anyway - at CQB engagement distances the difference between a 0.25 and a 0.32+ is negligible.
    1 point
  43. Heavier IS better but you don't HAVE to use them. Use whatever you have and see how they fly. Make sure to adjust the power according to the weight you use.
    1 point
  44. I'm certain that has nothing to do with the BB weight, sounds more like hop problems. Sure, on lower power builds the performance increase of using heavier BBs is less noticeable than on higher power builds. Because the Heavy BBs have less initial velocity to conserve better than their lighter counterpart. But no matter what, if you have a hop that imparts the same relative spin on both the light and the heavy BB, the heavy BB goes farther. It wont run out of magnus effect sooner. It is heavier, heavy things conserve energy better, and as such will spin longer, prolonging the magnus effect, and conserving the muzzle energy for longer making them faster than lighter BBs at any range farther than ~10-20 metres.

    Anyone bought from Sixmm

Much to echo the above, ordered with them twice as they had things I couldn’t find anywhere else in stock (On the same site) First order took roughly 10 days to be shipped out, then a good few weeks for delivery. One of the items I had ordered was missing, thankfully it was only a couple of quid. Second order never got sent out, and responses to emails was non existent so PayPal disputed for the refund.

(most already pointed out above) "Reasonable adjustments" is a legal duty, so the site will pretty much have to do it, even tho understandably it may be a hassle. Printing out safety briefing is very easily done and not at all unreasonable. Make it known to the other players so they can understand the situation and adjust their expectations with hit calling. Marshals can keep an eye out in-game and pay a bit more attention and watch out for hit calling / issues with other players, again not difficult to do and something they should already be doing anyway. On the deaf person side, wear non-padded clothing for hit detection, so preferably a minimal loadout like a belt rig perhaps. Put up his arm for hit calling, not necessary through shouting "hit". Same for his targets, just watch for hands raising. A shadow is a good idea, just so he can receive grenades and announcements and so on, and have a "translator" just in case. I think there are probably situations where playing as a duo is actually an advantage. His biggest enemy may actually be a fogging eye pro. May be a chance for him to fully embrace the speedsoft look and get a dye mask (which I heard is good with fogging).
