  1. what site was it so we know who the idiot is?
    3 points
  2. It's fucking stupid of the marshal to do it and the site owner to even allow it. We play knowing we're going to get shot and staff understand the risks when entering the field, but the dog doesn't. Simply put the owner is a massive cockwomble (to put it mildly)and shouldn't be allowed to own pets. There's also the fact that if the worst does happen and the dog gets hit, nobody knows how it will react. It could easily think it's being attacked and go for a player who might not even be the person who fired the shot. Quite simply it shouldn't be happening and I for one would avoid any site which does allow it

As you can imagine, it shoots phenomenally well. pre-cooking is now available with the Perun mosfet but it also runs well with natural precock when set to 0 Active breaking. Then simply hold down the button on the Perun once finished shooting to reset the piston. There are a few marks around the flash hider from installing and removing the suppressor but hardly noticeable. There also some marks where the bipod attaches to the receiver. Otherwise it a beautiful example which has been very well kept, no rust whatsoever. Collection is preferred, but postage can be arranged. Based in Nottinghamshire but willing to travel and meet. Radios guide

You have two choices when it comes to radios for Airsoft purposes and they each have their pros and cons. You can either use a PMR 446 or a licensed radio such as a Baofeng. PMR 446 Comes in two types, analogue which has 8 channels and digital which is 16 channel. Most people use analogue as digital is still expensive. Is unlicensed so you can just buy a radio and it will work with all other PMR 446 radios. It is limited to 0.5W. It is lower range and penetration than a licensed radio. In thick woodland expect below 100m sometimes you can shout further. In open ground in the best conditions it could go 1KM. They have a fixed antenna so you can't change it. Licensed Radio Baofeng is the make that most people buy due to the costs. The UV-5R is a cheap and decent radio with a tonne of possible accessories. The UV-82 and other radios in that series from Baofeng can do two push to talk buttons for two different frequencies which is a really awesome for radio men as they can talk on either of the frequencies they have setup. The UV-5R can tune into 2 channels at once but it can't transmit on both only one of them. The UV-5R can be used at 2 power outputs, 1W and 4W. There is also a High power model which has an additional 8W mode which isn't usable with a UK simple business license. You can do just about anything with a license and could get a personal frequency just for your group but it could cost thousands of pounds. However the easiest and cheapest thing to do is to buy a Simple UK business license (https://secure.ofcom.org.uk/busrad/). It is £75 for 5 years and takes about 2 weeks to come through, it requires little more than name + address. It will give you some FM, VHF and UHF frequencies for a total of 11 usable on a Baofeng UV-5R and you can hand out these to a group you play with or just some people on the same site for the day. Businesses all over the UK share the frequencies so you may have to move channel to avoid interfering but you have plenty of options. The license grants up to 5W of power and the Baofeng on high uses 4W. The license is for narrow band which is the same as the PMR 446 uses. These penetrate through a lot more woodland and go a lot further as they are 10x more powerful. They have a replaceable antenna so you can get a smaller one to fit your gear or a much bigger one to allow better reception and a bit more power. The Baofeng can be tuned to receive the PMR 446 frequencies. However because it is too powerful (1W) and has a removable antenna (which can change the power output) and it can use other frequencies its not legal to use it on PMR 446 frequencies. Thus if you are using a Baofeng for this purpose you are committing a crime. It is OK to listen but you can't transmit. The Baofeng radio's as far as I know all come with push to talk buttons and an ear piece in the box, the UV-5R certainly does. You can also get accessory ones from other companies like Code red headsets, Z Tactical and Baofeng themselves. The plug it uses is called a Kenwood so when looking for addons this is what you need, its widely supported. There are a vast array of options even to the point where you can get a bone conduction set for $100 or so.

    Custom paint work

NOt actually paint but Hydro dipped. MY first ever custom build about twenty years ago. G&P Magpul Sentry with Tightbore and tuned gearbox. Furniture was all bought on American E Bay and dipped by Lacota Industries the only company in the world with genuine MC film at the time. Built several more variations of it over the years in CQB length, mid length and rifle length, some with folding stocks, last one being a Mid Length ERG. Background is chinese copy of Crye Field vest, surprising quality for time, which I still have though sadly no longer fits me.

The first woman says, “On my first wedding anniversary, my husband bought me a gold ring.” The second woman says (with a southern drawl), “That’s niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.” The first woman says, “On my tenth wedding anniversary, my husband bought me a diamond necklace.” The second woman says, “That’s niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.” The first woman says, “And on my twenty-fifth wedding anniversary, my husband bought me a trip around the world.” The second woman says, “That’s niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.” The first woman says, “And what did your husband ever buy for you?” The second woman says, “Well, on my first wedding anniversary, my husband bought me lessons at a school of etiquette.” The first woman says, “Lessons at a school of etiquette? Well, why in the world would he buy you something like that?” The second woman says, “So I’d learn how to say that’s nice instead of who the fuck cares.”

  11. So your choices!!! 1. Disposable pyro. Has come on leaps and bounds over the years but so have the prices. The standard is a mk5 flash bang (like a stick normally), but you can get thermobarics, multi bangs etc. Tag inn pyrotechnics do some lovely looking frags (type 67), they're expensive and louder than some sites will allow. 2. Reusable. A) gas powered ones, never seen someone talk positively about them and generally reserved for under 18s. Reusable pyro is trick enough as is without adding gas to it. B) charge based pyro, such as the gr-20. They're generally quite expensive to buy and run, charges are tricky to get hold of at times but realistic looking and often have multi bang features.cool but expensive C)standard blang firing grenades. These can be on impact or timed. Standard calibres for the blanks are: 209 (known as a shotgun primer) (quietest), 9mm (standard/acceptable) and 12g(too loud for most sites). 12g can take magflashes if you can find them which are as loud as 9mm but have a flash, whether your site accepts them isn't known as some have concerns). Impact bfgs, generally only go off on concrete and are easily lost in grass etc. Timed can be slid along floors etc. Both have their time as place. I think the ohshibooms or the original police dynatec impacts are the best. Have seen some of the alpha tec multishot ones fail to go off fairly regularly. There are regular reports of reusable bfgs being pinched but I've never experienced this/been lucky and it's easily saved me over £1000 had I bought disposable pyro for every blank used and I still have the bfgs. Think about where you play and factor that in.

    Dog in the gamezone?

I’m sure the insurance company would have something to say about a dog being in the game zone and the potential for someone to be bitten. I doubt it’s mentioned in the policy. It’s one thing for the dog to be in the safe zone, but in the playing area, with the potential for it to get hurt is just stupid and negligent. As mentioned above, we all go knowing we’ll get hit and it’s going to hurt. The dog, on the other hand, has no idea. I’m guessing we’re not talking about some well trained land shark here.

Which is exactly what the UK Scout Assn has done - so yes! Or, this forum could buy a 'crowd funded' licence to be used by all of its members. But, I completely agree - stick to allocated or PMR frequencies, and from a practical perspective, nothing will happen.

  14. Like yourselves, I rather like the dense foliage. However, I'm rather confident that, unless there is a low pass from a B52 spraying Agent Orange, the sheer amount of rhododendron there will mean that there will still be more than adequate opportunities a for sneaky play and flanking. After playing there rather a lot over the past few years, I'm actually quite looking forward to a little change! Where has the new bus been plonked?

"the Licensee and any person authorised to act on the Licensee’s behalf" On the face of it, it's vague enough that (just for example) UKAPU could buy a licence and authorise any airsofter to use it. Which would be hugely cheeky, but I doubt that there's any proactive enforcement going on. As long as you're sticking to the allocated frequencies (or PMR frequencies), is anybody ever going to know or care?

  19. 2nd game after the summer break. It feels like we're still in full summer, damn climate change! Regarding the game, we had a "training" session to prepare for the national finals at the end of the month. Had one instance where one of the new guys wasn't keen on taking a hit, but nothing a good burst couldn't fix the game after. Also I'm so out of shape (not that I was before).

  20. I have the Vortex x3 mini-magnifier... Pricey, but clarity of the glass is great and the flip mechanism is strong & sturdy and will take a lot of knocks. + goes without saying...anything goes wrong with it, can't beat their no quibble warrantly. (Had my Vortex x1 prism optic sorted within 5 days when I knackered the battery cap) Have had the flip sight last few years, been used on multiple guns and scratched and scored...but glass is still perfect. But if you don't want to go real steel...then HOLY WARRIOR products seem to be the most superior repo stuff out there.

  22. Driver wood can be a great site but it's very hit and miss depending on the day. Today it seemed pretty good for hit calls didn't seem to notice or hear many people moaning about it which is nice. The team balance today was awful, it's know that the regulars always go green which is why I like being orange because you normally need to fight harder and end up with more chances or good encounters. Today though green team seemed to push into the spawn zones very hard which takes away the fun for everyone and doesn't even make sense as to why someone would bother. The changes are nice to see but forcing the gameplay around the new bus which is so close to the spawn didn't help either as it encourages teams to spawn camp. And the clearance of alot of the bush also aids longer engagements but for me the concealment and path ways they had made for a fun maze of flanking, but I understand that they needed to make the changes as alot of players (newer) stuck to key open areas which made for slow gameplay in those sections and they wanted people to use more of the map. Accuracy through volume really does ring true here. So overshooting occurred alot today, it's dense so I know a few shots to get through the shurbs are needed but spray and pray when you see a bush move is annoying. Alot of friendly fire today - god it's like the wild west shoot first ask later. I think I must be one of the rare few who like to PID before taking a shot. Marshall were great - if you had an issue going up to them right away to ask was never an issue. They are making more changes, interesting to see what they do, I for one hope they sort out the spawn zones / change game mode rules for adaptive spawning.

  23. Just got home from a day of airsofting at Driver Wood (first time at the site) and I've definitely got a bit of a write up for my experience. Day started early with my alarm going off at 6:30am, but I was ready to go get stuck in. I planned on using the MWS set up as a DMR to make the most of their 1.88J with 25m MED DMR rules, since Worthing Airsoft's DMR rules are just not worth bothering with. Had to dial the hop all the way on to lift the .4s, but on green gas it was sailing them out nicely at about 1.8 - 1.85J, so once I got the gun chronoed and saw how it was performing I was set. I joked with my friend as we headed out, saying "ah, we're a DMR and a bolt action sniper, so I'm sure we won't be the front line." This joke is important for our story here... First game was a three base domination and was a good game to get started. As I had no idea where anything was, I took myself into a central position with my friend who was running his VSR and we got entrenched in some bushes and started picking people off. It didn't take long before we were the front line, with the rest of our team all dead and not pushing back up. He eventually got taken out, leaving me by myself as I was slotting people on the flank just one after the other (seriously, I loved running a DMR as it allowed me to engage multiple enemies one after the other). I eventually got taken out too when a player on the other team was basically on top of me trying to work out where I was, despite me using an MWS with its clack-clack GBBR mechanism. He said he would never have found me if I was running something quiet. We headed back to respawn and then found that our team was basically being spawn-camped. This was a sign of things to come and something I was wary of going into the day after what I heard at the brief. Second game we had to escort a pair of VIPs to various spots across the site, having to hold it for 5 minutes. I'll be honest with you, we got absolutely folded again, barely getting out of our spawn. I managed to hold one of the flanks with another guy, just doing Viet Cong tactics hitting them and then disappearing into the foliage all game; Namsoft taught me well! I also lost count of how many grenades they threw in our direction, both a combination of green smokes (count as toxic, so can't be in it without a gas mask) and bangs. They must've spent a small fortune trying to uproot us, but every time they threw grenades, we simply weren't there. I was surprised to hear we managed to do a whole 1 of the objectives, which was 1 more than I thought with how the game was going. We swapped sides and it was much the same; I took a central position and my friend got into a really good spot for sniping, but while we managed to totally lock down part of the site, the other team was running rampant elsewhere. Then we got teamkilled by a mortar that wiped out about 7 or 8 of us and we totally lost control of that too. That was probably the most frustrating part of the day as it was the one part of the site where it felt like we had traction and then we got mass teamkilled. Third game involved a bunch of oversized playing cards. Numbers were 5 points, pictures were 10 points, ace was 15 points and the joker was -20 points for the enemy team. No prizes for guessing how it went. We actually got a decent start, but then with only a few of us defending the base the other team eventually rolled in and stole all of the cards. I was the last man standing having to cover behind me with the pistol as well as the front with the MWS and it was just a bit too much for me alone. Regardless after I got hit I stood there waiting for a medic, knowing full-well that nobody was around to do so. It did exactly what I wanted it to, as I had 4 of them distracted by me and slowing them down in their endeavours as they watched me with paranoia. However, my team didn't come back in and all of our cards got stolen. I went back to spawn and... we were basically spawn-camped. Again. I still managed to break off and take out a bunch of them from a flank they weren't watching much, but by this point most of our team had given up. I'm not the type and I don't mind being on the losing team, but I could see why morale was low; we had spent all day getting kicked around the site. Anyway, I did have fun and do enjoy a bit of an uphill battle, especially considering I was against so many regulars while I've never been to the site so I don't know any of the strong positions or even where half of the objectives were. The MWS performed exactly as I wanted it to, but outside of 1.88J I will continue to run it at 1.14J elsewhere; I noticed a little more effective range with 1.88J, but it was borderline. So, my overall thoughts: Good: + The site itself is lovely. It's huge and they clearly put a lot of effort into making it a very fun site to play at. + DMR rules are great. 1.88J with a 25m MED is where I'll use one and I thoroughly enjoyed doing so + Games were well put together and worked well with the site + Early start. Briefing at 9am and it's not a massively long one, so we were out to play nice and early. + Very nice safe zone and actual toilets! Shame airsofters are a disgusting lot and the male toilets were rather splashed from bad aim Bad: - Horrendous team imbalance confirmed my suspicions I had going into it. Even heard one of the marshalls speaking to a regular who was on our team saying "you know all the regulars go on green and we always do that side as green" after they split us down the middle - That team imbalance was never addressed. At lunch time, despite orange team getting hammered and basically pushed back to spawn every game the marshalls did nothing to balance it. When there were more greens than oranges, it was more newbies and kids who were moved onto orange rather than a group of regulars. - Hit taking was laughably bad. I had many shots that I watched to completion through my scope, with people recoiling from the hits and then just continuing on. And I know these are being felt as they're .4s at 1.88J that they're recoiling from - It's very businesslike. Whereas Worthing, Southdown and Gunman all feel like a community, Driver Wood very much feels like a business first and I feel it lacked the character of other sites. I felt very detached. Meh: ~ I don't think I've ever been at a skirmish weekend with that much pyro being hurled at me. Green smokes and bangs were raining down like someone on green won the lottery ~ People were proving my point when I say "full auto is a crutch for people who can't aim" with the amount of high ROF full auto spray that was being peppered everywhere ~ Gun sock. My gun literally can't fire if the mag is out, but gun sock needed. I kinda understand this one since they have such a wide customer base and people are dumb ~ They never checked if my DMR was semi-locked. I could've rocked up with a Section 5 firearm and nobody would've known. Fortunately, I'm not a jackass and had already modified my fire selector to only shoot on semi (such an easy mod on the MWS...) - "Outside food is not allowed" combined with "don't worry, we have relatively expensive food on sale". I didn't eat anything on principle! - Going back to the safe zone after every game. Those safe zone breaks need to be shorter! I did enjoy myself and will likely go back again, but there are definitely issues and I can see that a lot of what I heard about Driver Wood was well-founded. Good thing is that the site is good and the games are good, so I can largely make my own fun, but there are a lot of very easily solvable issues that do impact it.

Mmm, airsoft spring ratings are more what you'd call guidelines than actual rules. The good news is that it sounds like you've got great airseal, so you can downspring and every other component will thank you for it. While I'll stress that @ak2m4 really does know what he's talking about, it is just possible that you might need to go lower than M100 on an XT spring. I absolutely fluked out on a short-tight-barrel M4 and hit 1.3J with an M100 XT spring and had to drop to an M90 to tame it. But that's a freakish occurrence, and an XT M100 will typically be the sweet spot for UK guns.

Really depends on how they rated their madbull m100 springs, I think they rate them with 0.25g. They do give a kg rating though which is pretty useless. For the XT springs grab a M100, then you can always adjust from there once tested

New MWS build. I've been startingly original and daring in building another URG-I, but in long boi flavour, to join its schtumpig sibling (points if you get the film reference there!) Mostly HAO and Magpul externals, with a couple of BavTac bits inside; Zet plate, nozzle spring and hop nub. I've put a waaaaay too long description of the parts and the build experience in the MWS thread because clearly I had too much time on my hands when I was on leave.

  28. Apologies for this very contrived offering. Tired of constantly being broke and stuck in an unhappy marriage, a young husband decided to solve both problems by taking out a large insurance policy on his wife with himself as the beneficiary and then arranging to have her killed. A 'friend of a friend' put him in touch with a nefarious dark-side underworld figure who went by the name of 'Artie.' Artie explained to the husband that his going price for snuffing out a spouse was £10,000. The husband said he was willing to pay that amount but that he wouldn't have any cash on hand until he could collect his wife's insurance money. Artie insisted on being paid at least something up front, so the man opened his wallet, displaying the single pound coin that rested inside. Artie sighed, rolled his eyes and reluctantly agreed to accept the pound as down payment for the dirty deed. A few days later, Artie followed the man's wife to the local Tesco supermarket. There, he surprised her in the produce department and proceeded to strangle her with his gloved hands. As the poor unsuspecting woman drew her last breath and slumped to the floor, the manager of the produce department stumbled unexpectedly onto the murder scene. Unwilling to leave any living witnesses behind, Artie had no choice but to strangle the produce manager as well. However, unknown to Artie, the entire proceedings were captured by the hidden security cameras and observed by the shop's security guard, who immediately called the police. Artie was caught and arrested before he could even leave the premises. Under intense questioning at the police station, Artie revealed the whole sordid plan, including his unusual financial arrangements with the hapless husband who was also quickly arrested. The next day in the newspaper, the headline declared... (You're going to hate me for this...) 'ARTIE CHOKES 2 for £1.00 @ Tesco

  30. Last time i played, there was a new chap, with rental gear. I usually encourage them to tag along and actually quite enjoy random ad-hoc pairings on the field, but this guy was a little different - really crashing around, and insisting on shouting despite the enemy being rather close and us being somewhat behind their forward line. After quite a few unsuccessful attempts by me and another guy with us to quieten him down, I'm appalled to admit that we encouraged him to pursue 'a flanking manoeuvre' into an enemy base to get predictably lit up.... Well, it's all a learning process!

  34. Recently seen some photos / videos of a site where there is a dog in the game zone. It is wearing some eye protection and a high vis and walks around with the marshall who is the owner however what is everyone's opinions on it? As a dog owner I would never ever even think about putting my dog in any place of danger. Thing is marshalls are known to get hit by bbs on accident so it can easily happen to the dog and you never know there could be someone willing to hurt it. It's also hard to make sure that the eye protection stays on the dog 100% of the time.
