Wait, people take more than like... 300 BBs out with them into games? [this post was brought to you by GBBR Gang]

  2. I tend to leave my batteries alone after game day, and charge them the day before I use them. Running a lipo into the ground will knacker it. Leaving it between 25-80% has no detrimental effects in my experience. Worth grabbing a battery capacity tester. They're only about a tenner on Amazon

  3. Counterpoint: since shimming the barrel is about the cheapest and quickest thing that it's possible to do, why not?

  4. I’d just put them away then charge them again a couple days before your next game tbh .

  7. My recent travails with my otherwise beloved Double Eagle have indicated a failing Falcon Fire Control Unit (it's a decent MOSFET with some active braking + burst modes etc) To combat this I firstly bought a 904G (because it's exactly the same internals) as the Falcon units aren't available as spares. And then I bought a Falcon unit as one became available! This has allowed me to fix my DE M906C (yay! but it's still needing some work, more on that later) And I have a fully working DE M904G with a better barrel and hop combo installed. Time to "science the shit out of it" and see which is better! Now the 906C is not stock. It has had the super-easy upgrade of the Maple Leaf 50deg Macaron bucking, paired with an Omega nub fitted. When I tested this on installation, I didn't find much difference, but the guns shoots very accurately and consistently to decent distances. The 904G has had a ZCI tight-bore inner barrel and ZCI rotary hop fitted. Both things are widely recommended on these forums. A Prometheus hop rubber has also been fitted. How can we tell which is better? I set them both up with my Visionking 1.25-5x scope, set it at 5x, roughly zeroed and then grouped 20 shots. (Apologies for mislabelling the 906C target) Pretty much sod-all difference! If anything the 906C is better, as the 904G had a tendency to throw a couple of real flyers into the mix during zeroing. A couple of minor observations: 1) The 904G has been well shimmed, sounds pretty good. The 906C has still got the factory shimming and sounds like an asthmatic ant with some heavy shopping in comparison, though there seems to be no loose movement in the gears. 2) Both are running the stock grey motor (Chaoli? (sp???)). The 904G runs warm after spamming semi, the 906C still tends towards "frying tonight" even with the new control unit running things. More backing for the idea it's badly shimmed? 3) The 904G is chrono-ing at 280fps with 0.28s and no hop, which is decent. The 906C was at a little less (there's always some hop applied, thanks to the nub) Perhaps the 906C is too tightly shimmed? Better too loose than too tight ... in this context I've tried different motor heights, but the better it sounds the faster it heats up. Anyway, I think I'm going to swap the 904G gearbox into the 906C and then maybe to do some more 'science' with different combos of barrel and hop unit... but I suspect the difference in their abilities will only show up at much longer ranges than the 15m I've tested at so far. Edit: I swapped around some shims on the 906C, and put it in the 904G receiver, and vice versa. The 806C original gearbox now sounds better, and the 904G gearbox in the 906C receiver now sounds worse Maybe the polymer receiver deadens the sound better than the metal one...? And maybe the motor height needs some more work - @Speedbird_666 your clever shim I don't think is needed with the 906C, it has a different, noticeably longer, pistol grip.

  8. I have the storage function, so I use it. Probably OTT, but it's no effort either. The storage function can put power in as well as take it out depending on the SOC of the battery. Discharge mode does just that.

  9. It's also a good idea to get into changing your battery at lunchtime on a skirmish day. Apart from helping to keep the batteries healthy it means you avoid the battery dieing right at the worst moment possible

  10. If you're running Li-Ion batteries (Titan?) them you don't need to worry, it's Li-po that need storage charges, but as the guys say - it's not a big deal, unless you want to squeeze every last percent of life out of them.

That just seems really odd as the action of chambering a round, whether manually charging, or from the bolt cycling, is the same 🤔 Hope the new mag lips sorts it

  13. I guess I'm just going to have to put it down to experience. It's going to hurt for the next week or so, but in the grand scheme of things, it's not that big a deal. I was happy to pay the price at the time. I hate to think how much I've spent over the years and I'm guessing most of us are in the same boat 🙂

  14. I have a simliar tale, didn't want to spend UK prices so about a week ago I got one from WGC for 363 quid shipped. When it turns up I'm expecting customs charges and if i'd only waited a week I could have picked it up from Bespoke for 350.

The war in Ukraine has been a big drain on the surplus business recently. Basically all the surplus kit goes out there, so any business are currently either circulating gear or finding other ways to get it, but that's obviously not as reliable as buying bulk from the main distributor of surplus gear. As Lozart said, there's a lot online, but there's also not a set way to guarantee you'll be getting good condition gear, seeing it in person is the only way. Even stuff listed at grade 1 is you relying on the seller to be checking the gear thoroughly.

I also just put them away and give them a little top up before game day, ideally you'd want to discharge them to storage levels but I dont have that luxury

They've pretty much all gone online! We had a surprising lack of surplus stores where I grew up given that it was up the road from Sandhurst and Aldershot. HM Supplies was in the town (Camberley) and there was always a good stall at the weekly market at Blackbushe but otherwise you were pretty much stuck with high end military tailors or places flogging new Kombat UK gear!

  19. I only play once a month so my batteries sit doing nothing for a few weeks with no problems. Just make sure you don't run them completely flat as that's what tends to knacker them. It's worth noting though that some mosfets do draw power constantly so if your gun has one you need to unplug the battery from the gun

Agreed. The nearest one to me stopped selling surplus kit to concentrate on regular camping gear over 10 years ago. There was also a guy at St Albans market a few years ago but his prices were worthy of Mack's and the bullshit he'd spew would put a politician to shame. For example he told the Mrs that the MTP smock he was selling was a bargain at £50 as they usually go for £200

There used to be loads of army surplus stores around. I remember there being an Army and Navy store on what seemed like every street corner back in the day. Car boot sales too but they are few and far between now. I haven't seen a good old fashioned army surplus store for ages! Especially anywhere near me.

Or a lightweight molle only chest rig - e.g. the new one out by Mil-tec that's a little over £20 - and some cheap Osprey mag pouches. You can always add different/bigger pouches later on in your airsoft career. The Osprey MTP mag pouches (both in 1 mag, and 2 mag flavour) are insane quality and blow most commercial pouches out of the water, yet can be had on ebay for £2-3 each (and many are brand new). I'm surprised not to see more of them in use.

This. Start off with just a couple of magazine pouches then you can work out what, if anything, else you need. Whilst it's tempting to splurge on a full loadout with a fuckton of pouches, often this leads to an urge to fill every pouch so you end up carrying around loads of kit which never gets used. Then when you do slim down your loadout you end up with loads of pouches gathering dust in a cupboard

  26. You'll probably find this a lot harder than you expect as the polymer bodied M904's use a funky adapter on the rear of the receiver to mount the buffer tube, with plastic lugs either side. Look at photo's comparing the 904G and E, note how the G has longer plastic "runners" on the adapter. To swap to a buffer tube on the G you'll either need to find the part from DE (near zero chance of that) or find a boneyard E being broken for spares (a 3D print of what you need probably wouldn't be anywhere near strong enough).

That's a cracker. What style are you going for overall? Remember this is just glorified cos playing. I have a full Osprey mk 4 plate carrier. Others look like they've been chasing Willem Defoe through the woods, and some just look like SWAT team members.

If you aren't ready to buy mags yet the pouring things are a useful idea, but the fixed size also means they'll rattle a bit. If you use a small elastic sock that will contract as you empty it you won't get the rattle. I only use midcaps bit have made up a container for sim games and long games where I'm likely to need to reload before having to go back to spawn/hq for resupply. Small sock, neck of a plastic bottle, and a couple of cable ties and you're good to make your own.

My recommendation is something cheap like a viper chest rig to get you started, they're light, cheap, don't make you sweat as much as a plate carrier and will carry all you need. When you've used this for 6 months or so, you'll.havr a better idea of what you need/like/don't like.

    Spring strengths...

I should’ve elaborated more—a good spring should experience little to no power drop over a minimum of 100,000 cycles, and hopefully much longer, but, of course, all springs will experience some power loss.

That sounds really odd. Just so I understand, after making ready, a BB is chambered correctly, then, after firing the first round, as the next BB is being chambered by the bolt returning, it just drops out of the barrel, without you pulling the trigger?

  32. Those stocks tend to need a nunchuck type battery like this... https://www.vapextech.co.uk/airsoft-7-4v-1450mah-20c-lipo-battery-with-case-lp208-vapextech You'll need a charger too like this... https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/nuprol-compact-lipo-life-nimh-nicd-balance-charger?gclid=Cj0KCQjw0vWnBhC6ARIsAJpJM6dYUB-JbRe1TdQUaR4Q6198xrGCpyN6mOB7HiCwhkKduTvqFR7LY5gaAsDQEALw_wcB Most airsoft gnus tend to come with a cheap & nasty euro charger & battery so you might be able to pick one up for SFA from a friend that skirmishes. There are many types of battery & chargers to consider as well as protection for them like this... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fireproof-Protecting-protected-accidental-explosion/dp/B08GS6DKG7/ref=asc_df_B08GS6DKG7/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=463216849420&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5569258410136641636&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1007330&hvtargid=pla-1063499779574&psc=1

Welcome. Any 7.4v battery with the correct connector, that fits in compartment will do. Post a pic of the connector and the battery compartment (in the stock) in the Electric Gun help section and someone will help.

  35. They are rare. I've only ever seen one for sale; I bought it and had it modified to 14mm CCW to fit my GHK. Incidentally, I still have the original, unmodified 16mm CW barrel stub from mine - if you want that as a spare, or to put on another AUG or something, just drop me a PM. It was done by cutting a Hephaestus steel outer barrel down - each bit is full steel, including the gas block. S, M, XXL Not sure why I insist on waiting until I'm selling something to take decent pictures of it, but all three bits (the pistol, the light, the holster) of this slice of 2000s Navy SEAL life are sadly for sale.

    Spring strengths...

Yes...and no. All springs will lose power over time because their very nature makes it happen. Bad springs just lose power more quickly. The trick is using a spring that degrades at an acceptable rate.

  37. It's £25, make an educated guess. Good optics cost money, that said airsoft guns are not so accurate that bad parallax actually makes much of a difference. It can be annoying but that's about it.

  40. Pretty generic budget red dot which should be perfectly adequate for some weekend skirmish action. Not expensive so a pretty good place start and fine out what you do or don’t like in an optic. Only thing I would say is that you may find that you want a riser for it as, depending or what face/eye protection you use, you may find it hard to get your check low enough to get a good sight picture.

Seconds to what Fatboy posted. A good spring should basically never compress, whereas bad springs can lose power very quickly, or even bend.

Being a GBBR fan boi, VFC have really really stepped up their game recently. Their G3, FAL and MP5s are all excellent, heard good things about the 416 range too but not read into them too much as its not a platform that interests me. For sale is a Kicking Mustang Hide Rig in Pencott Greenzone. The rig is brand new and has never been used. I have kept the holster and have no need for the rig (run a plate carrier). Perfect for mounting holster systems and magazine pouches. Comes with a large and small panel as pictured. Very comfortable to wear and a brilliant designed bit of kit. Price includes postage and PayPal fees.

  48. Bloody typical. I’ve been mulling over the idea of buying one of these ever since I saw them for sale on High Pressure Airsoft. No where else had them and so I debated backwards and forwards and eventually decided to take the plunge and got one around 2 weeks ago. It appears it was the last one they had in tan, because after I bought it the tan was showing out of stock. I felt pretty good about it, glad I hadn’t missed out. I felt even better about it when it arrived as it’s gorgeous looking and feels really good in the hand. Of course, that good feeling has reduced a bit when I see Defcon now has them in stock, £200 cheaper than what I paid at High Pressure Airsoft. More annoying is I was intending to wait until payday on 15th, but being an impatient sod, I didn’t wait. Could have saved myself £200 if I’d been less impatient. Oh well. The joys of our hobby I guess 😏
