    Newbie!

Hi Guys, Played my first airsoft game at the weekend with some mates (their first time too!) at The Outpost by First and Only in Kinver. Absolutely epic day, Had a blast! Even in the pitch black and my make shift torch assembly ran out of batteries at the start of the last big game Now looking into kit, and stuff I'm away and can't book my next round until mid-late September, Looking to get UKARA and then get a rifle (GM16 Raider-L?). Going to play at some other F&O sites to get a try of both CQB and woodland warfare to decide which I prefer and go from there! Another one of my friends is also interested in getting more into it... Because there's nothing wrong with "airsoft"? Maybe you should get yourself one of these: And stop worrying about what other people think...

  3. Lets be honest its always going to be seen as a bit sad by a lot of people no matter what its called. I am surprised you dont see guys coming out of airsoft shops with their new toy gun in a brown paper bag and trying to hide it under their raincoat.

  4. As several have already said there are numerous BFG's (blank firing grenades, I wont cover the tornado and other gas grenades as they are not really pyro, more pyro effect) they split into 2 main categories Timed and Impact. Timed are normally a 3-5 second delay, some have found their grenades a bit temperamental timing wise. Impact need a hard (ish) surface to go off, I have had mine fail to go off on concrete if not dropped from high enough, or at the wrong angle, and go off on a dirt road. Both types are fairly heavy bits of kit as they tend to be made of milled solid metal so you wouldn't want to take a hit to the head or body from them. Configurations: Both types can be bought in configurations that fire 9mm revolver blanks (50pcs for £18 ish, very loud in confined spaces, maximum allowed at many sites) or Shotgun primers (100pcs for £14 ish, loud in confined spaces, allowed at many sites), some can be used with shotgun blanks (10pcs for £10-15 ish, super loud, many sites wont allow these to be used). Timed: Dynatex and SWAT (from my understanding the swat is a clone of the dynatex), they both need a loading tool but have the advantage that they can be used in soft floored environments, grass/ mud etc. I have seen them used effectively in woodland skirmishes although I wouldn't want to take the risk of throwing an expensive bit of kit into bushes and not being able to relocate it. Some modify them with reflective tape and I have seen red ribbon streamers to help find them after use. Require a pin as a safety. Impact: Dynatex, Swat, OhShi...Boom! and TRMR. The first three use a pin for safe storage, the TRMR twists. Dynatex have 2 versions (or they did), the older version, which was cheaper and sensitivity wise was on a par with most of the other impact grenades, the newer version was about £15 or £20 more expensive, about a cm smaller and more sensitive, I have seen it go off on grass from knee height. In my opinion the impacts are much more useful for CQB games, but next to useless in woodland. There are two more Alpha-Tec Hex grenade (6 shots) and the Incentive designs (5 shot), they don't fire them all at once or all from a single drop, they are like a revolver, you simply pick it up click to the next position and throw again. The incentive designs can be used with a tripwire adapter to turn it into a booby trap. There is one more coming onto the market. In the prototyping stage now and heavily supported by players using an indigogo page. The Molyneux Advanced Systems MAS-G, this relies heavily on electronics but should, when finished be able to be used as an impact, timed (with delay of 0-10 sec set by the user before throwing), ir mine and tilt mine. There are some that use caps, like the ones in those toy guns I remember from the 90's but on steroids, they are far cheaper and exclusively impact. But not as loud or much of a flash. Baz was testing one and I've never seen one in use other than a video. RRP of most of the BFG's range from £65 to just over 100 for the multishots. My ohshiboom paid for itself in less than 50 shots when compared with the average priced high quality card pyro, Enola Gaye or TLSFX. But I still carry card pyro for woodland and for occasional cqb use. The ohshi is exclusively used in urban environments. None of the bfg's do anything other than make a big bang, and a small flash. So smokes are card only. I have a MAS-G on order and look forward to testing it when it arrives, likely in September from the sounds of things.

    Better name than Airsoft.

OK, for those of us that wanted an intelligent discourse; changing the name to something "more descriptive of the pain involved" or indeed "more masculine" makes the sport LESS inclusive and MORE likely to attract the kind of people we DON'T want. Calling it "Man pain ball" is hardly going to encourage more kids and women to want to play, now is it? At the end of the day it doesn't matter what you call it when you try and explain it to people they will ALWAYS say "...so it's like paintball then".

  10. Yes I've actually got one and its quite loud - certainly good enough for our milsim kill radius. It is triggered by impact but it works on grass or carpet. http://airsoftsofsim.blogspot.co.uk/2014/10/a-different-airsoft-grenade.html

  11. Look up EdGi on Facebook. The parts are about £200 delivered direct from the maker and you get a couple of extras (trigger assembly?) too. Message EdGi and you'll get a reply within hours, the customer support is fantastic. As said there's nothing wrong with Norvitsch thrying to supplement his income with this. If you're happy to pay his prices to support his YouTube channel then great, his vids are very entertaining. But if you want the same parts cheaper then go direct. By all accounts the EdGi stuff really is top notch, certainly no complaints on that front.

    Airsoftzone Romford

Was off out buying a new car yesterday, heading to Essex so figured I'd go to airsoft zone in romford as I needed some bb's The shop itself was easy to find, plenty of parking as it was Saturday and the little trading type estate they are on was quiet due to the warehouses being closed A lovely little shop, tons of rifles on the walls which the staff are happy for you to take off and finger at your leisure, nice amount of accessories and tac gear of the highest quality too NOTHING is too much trouble for the guys there and I mean NOTHING! Ended up leaving with a G&P viper, G&P M870 short breacher, TM HK45, mags and 90,000 bb's (great bulk buy deals) Their tech not only tested the M4, shotgun and pistol but showed me that the hops in G&P shotguns are actually adjustable and not fixed, told me that G&P have a habit of using loads of silicone oil on the hops and rubbers which I already knew but took the oe one out of the M4, cleaned it and replaced it with a guarder clear FOC, also made up a short battery lead so I can use all my batts in it FOC then as is was a display model gave discount on the WHOLE deal I watched him with a newer player take their rifle apart in the showroom to physically show him what was wrong rather than just talking to him like a dick which was a refreshing difference too and the tech (john) has an immense amount of knowledge to give This was probably the best experience I have ever had in an airsoft retailer, I cannot recommend them enough and it will probably be my only port of call for all things airsoft from this point onwards

  15. Maybe I'm just unfit, but I don't feel very soldier-like when I play airsoft.

  16. No need for a macho name because airsoft is not a macho thing. We like it and we think it's a cool thing but the rest of the world sees it as cool as driving model trains or tabletop rpg. Calling it mega death strike 3000 won't change the fact that it is playing soldiers.

  17. I describe it to people as like paintball but better which normally seems to click. As the name sounds like a Japanese translation perhaps something like super happy shooting time would be suitable?
    1 point
  18. I don't mind the name Airsoft, it does sound like a translation that only kinda works though(which i'd imagine is the case). It's surprising how many incorrect variations of Airsoft people who don't play can come up with

  19. It actually was called 'soft air' when the first guns came out... And another piece of trivia... BB stands for 'ball bullet' and not 'ball bearing' as commonly thought. Whilst it would be nice to try and think of an alternative the sport / hobby has been around for many years (at least 18 I can think of) and has always been called airsoft, so a name change would cause a huge amount of confusion. Personally I don't mind airsoft

  26. Any airsoft gun should be fine with a 7.4v lipo. Dont pay any attention to the ebb on a gun its a gimick. The masada is ok but you can get better for your money. Dont buy the bolt they have tendency to be a bit fragile. Get your Ukara membership sorted and get http://www.patrolbase.co.uk/airsoft-m4-m15-m16-variants/krytac-trident-crb-black.htm#.Vco4hXpwbfs

  27. http://www.mg-props.co.uk/grenades.htm Theres no real weight to it so the spoon leads when you throw it. Not been able to break it. The metal is pretty cheap and has a nice patina of rust but it still works and most importantly, looks more like the real thing.

  29. A motor in a real steel grip? I doubt that is possible. I'd imagine it would be mounted to the receiver differently (for example you would need to drill out a hole for the motor shaft to go through as well) and it won't be hollow or be able to mount a motor plate onto it. Most manufacturers (of airsoft replicas) make their grips slightly bigger than real ones to accommodate the motor, although that said I'm sure I've heard RS on the other hand have grips which are more accurate to real dimensions. Don't ask me how though.

  30. Not sure about the features on the WE (I was gonna get one myself but everyone recommends to get an IMAX B6) I'm assuming you're talking about the model which is about £15? It's is obviously quite a simple smart charger compared to others - but nonetheless, the main feature is that it should cut off once a battery is fully charged at the very least.

  31. Edgi trigger units are 55 degree ones. They say it's just as good as a 90 degree one but on the sniper forum people generally disagree with that. Their (or his?) barrel is the best. People usually go with Action Army hopup unit, a proper barrel (like EDGI) and a 90 degree trigger + piston: PDI or Action Army, but there are quite a few out there.

  35. Dynatex are good for timed grenades, only downside is you need a specific tool to reload it and even then it's not the easiest of things to do in the field. To the point where i'd say it's practical to use once each game. The other option is impact grenades, I use an Oshiboom which is easy to use and reload. Main benefit to timed grenades is you can roll them down a corridor and use them on any surface, whereas timed prefer hard ground and have a very limited range as you can't throw them far(i.e. underarm only). Personally I've found the places I have wanted to use a grenade the most are where you would only be allowed to throw paper pyro. Things like over a hedge line or through a second storey window. It's something to consider as you will also not have to worry about them getting lost or stolen

  36. My personal opinion is that TRMR's are a bit finnicky unless thrown with considerable force. My personal reusable grenade is a Dynatex Timed BFG running on 9mm blanks. Loud enough to get the job done and a timer that has never let me down.

    UK Tactical

First time buyer a few months back. ordered a open triple mag bout and 2 triple pouch double stack pouches a day or so later, so they wouldn't of came at the same time. SOMEHOW, they ended up shipping me a single point sling that i had no idea how to use. got onto them the same day, no response, but instead got pouches, no questions asked (A lie on my end, and someone probably got fired for the fuckup ^^) but either way, quick U-turn on their end and got a free sling out of it that is actually helpful Packaging was neat and no fuss, and the quality of the material is similar to the £350 vest they're mounted upon! A+++

I have to agree with the genral attitude. I think that rank and badges should stay out of airsoft unless its an ex forces player wearing their own badges. If you think you have millitary leadership skill go sign up. I had a great chat this weekend with a player as we joked about how unfit we where. Its a sport with toy guns that utilises camo clothes (not that it makes you invisible in the slightest in cqb sites) Other than that we arnt soldiers and so dont need ranks and regimental badges. If im totally honest if some random 20odd year old with a high millitary rank badge turns to me and attempts to give me orders as he thinks he has leadership value, id tell him to fuck off!

Bloody hope so otherwise theres no point, You can adjust it. Also it has QD connectors so you can leave the attachments on the rifle and just connect it to the sling when needed.

A good pair of prescription inserts is the best airsoft purchase you'll ever make. I've spent a lot on this hobby, but nothing has improved the game for me as much as they did. Seriously reconsider your options if at all possible. That said, it's a bit trial and error. Have you tried a large paintball mask, for example? That may be a better bet as it's further off your face.

    Airsoftzone Romford

I went there for the first time wednesday. Im going to play over dragons lair and they set a shop up over there so thought I would pop in to get my new aeg chrono just to make sure it was ok for sunday. They tested it and it was well in so that was great. I then picked up some other bits while I was there and they even fitted them and set up the gun for me. I cant recommend this place enough. Great people very helpful no matter if your spending £5 or £500 they will take the time to sort you out.

  48. Popped in there today and picked up a HK45. The staff were really helpful and even gave me a cleaning rod for my AEGs when I asked if they sold them. They said they didn't but the chap that served me asked their tech if they had any spare, which it turned out they did. Whilst you could argue it is only a couple of quid I think it was a nice touch that they weren't fussed about charging me for it. The store is fairly small but it seemed to have a decent selection and the HK45 was the cheapest I could find it, at least from the reputable retailers I could think of.
