If they have their hand up they're dead. If they shoot me after that, and obviously haven't respawned, well done you're off for an early shower. If they're on the other team and don't have their hand in the air they're getting shot. Oh, you're already dead? Sorry, but you should have had your hand up. Your own fault.4 points -
Seems we're segueing to "how to fix airsoft", so my unwritten rule is: be the person that you want to play against. You're sure you weren't hit, and you're sure you made the hit, and the other player says "You going to take that?" What to do? Argue it out? You're not going to alter what they're equally sure happened. Even if they are actually delusional, even if they're deliberately cheating, and regardless of what reality really was, right at that point, the best thing you can do is to say "Good shot, nice one!", put your hand up, and walk away. Because arguing the toss guarantees two sulky faces, over nothing, because there's no prize for "winning". When you've got the power to gift happiness, why not wield it?4 points

WHAT A DAY! Red Alert's second Battlesim "LITE". Like a Battlesim day without camo/ammo/loadout restrictions. Military vehicles on the field, set objectives etc. At the start of the day I got a surprise when I was handed a marshall radio and told I was the on the field commander for Red team (Each team has a commander who stays at HQ and a second in command on the field). But... but, I'm in full ghillie with a bolt action! OH WELL! It was HUMID! So much so that before lunch I had already shed my ghillie and was roaming far more than I usually do in sniper mode, as I needed to relay objective updates, assign reinforcements etc. There were intel cards available for capture, dotted around, and at objective capture points intel boxes with bundles of cards. Intel cards had a face value of 1 or 2 seconds. You could return the cards to HQ at any time, and once you had a minimum of 20 seconds acrued you could then don a Purple High Vis, which took you out of normal play, and head into the Kill House. In the Kill House you used your accrued time to run the course of Attack Sense targets, getting a point for each succesful target taken out, using a stock G&G M4 issued by the Kill House Marshall. Your points gained added to your teams victory points. It was an EXCELLENT day all round. I didn't hear any complaints about hit taking, the atmosphere and team work were exceptional. A highlight was escorting the Feret armoured car (Google it) to collect intel boxes, with a gun emplacement atop the Feret. MAYHEM! Final scores for the day: Yellow team: 96 points My lovely, attractive, obedient, talented Red team: 274 points Quite a victory. Also, at the end of the day @Smiling-Dutchman was made a member of The Outcasts (Our small, select group of dickheadds that play BANG YOU'RE DEAD in the woods together regularly). Photo not from today, but Dutch is in it, so 😋4 points -

Yes, it's annoying, borderline cheaty and guaranteed to get people mad at you. Yes, call all your hits. Most sites I play at have the rule that blue on blue is a hit for both parties. No, ricochets are not direct hits. Caveat, as others have said, if in doubt, take the hit. Knife kills? You play airsoft to shoot people and be shot, not creepily tap your rubber Rambo knife on someone. Don't be weird; use your gun 😂 If you do want melee kills though, just my opinion, use something slightly realistic, not a cuddly toy, a rubber chicken or your mum's dildo. Other unwritten rules. Help other players out, whether they're rentals who haven't been shown how to adjust the hop up, or experienced players having snags. We talk about the airsoft community, so do your part. Never rub another man's rhubarb by picking up someone's gun or other equipment without asking. Truth is, we're all show offs and want you to see our toys, so ask and you'll generally get a positive response. Also, don't be afraid to share equipment if it gets the job done. I'm not a gung-ho banzai charger, but if someone is, here, take my pistol as well. Also, everyone goes to play their own type of game. "Push up!", "Be aggressive!" and "Fire and move!" are the airsoft equivalent of "Pass it!" and "Shoot!" in football. We get it. Calling out targets is much more helpful.3 points -
Except 99% non hit takers are people that just didn't get hit. so some poor sod gets lit up because airporters can't judge distance under understand wind deflection. Like life the rule that should not need to be spoken is don't be a dick.3 points

The Dyslexic in me made sense of it straight away - perhaps the responder has a similarly operating mind. Yes it should have been clearer, but it's hardly Apple Corp or Tesco type organisations we're dealing with. Mind you, I spot typo's in all sorts of website sites and publications. Hell, I sent a letter from my son's school back with red marks on the errors with a post-it saying that we should expect better from a Grade 1 Ofsted listed school. I wasn't very popular. 😁2 points -

One exception, I played a night game, got through the enemy lines via stealth but once I was in their harbour area I proceeded to "bimble" around like I was meant to be there, allowing me to enter their hq, open fire while pirouetting lol 🧚♀️, & end the game. But yeah, anything else is cheating unless it's specified in the game rules otherwise, kinda "brandenburger" shit etc.2 points

If it's not an unspoken rule, it should be: People who pretend to be dead and then shoot you. The hit shouldn't count and you should be permitted to shoot them at 30m with a sniper rifle. In the head. Repeatedly. I loathe this dishonourable behaviour. Basically, it means I shoot everyone who walks past me if they're on the opposing team, just to be sure. Which makes me the cnut. But when I get hit by someone "dead" I still feel that I've been hit, so I should go out. Grrrrrrrrrrrr.2 points -
To be honest I don't care much about the other "unspoken rules" as we're all grown up boys and girls, mostly, so common sense should kick in, but the above unwritten rule should be No.1 on the list. Personally I've been asked by a good marshal, at my local site, to look after a group of young teenage boys who were rentals and I stuck with them and helped them loads (losing game time that I paid for) as I want them to hopefully buy their own RIF's and come back and play in the future.2 points

Site: Dogtag airsoft Crawley Attending: me, mate and the boy Ok, one of my mates has been trying to get me to go to Dogtag airsoft in sunny crawley for a while. I finally had a spare weekend and thought i'd give it a shot. Got there early with a maccy D's (meet up point with my mate and feeble excuse for food!) in hand. The Access road and my car didnt get on much as it got sport suspension and its a tad bumpy. Still, we survived. Gates opened at 8:30 on the button. into the carpark and a short walk to the safe zone to unload a ton of kit. One of the joys of taking your kids, they break stuff a lot, so i take a huge tool box and it just seems to get heavier! First impressions were good, lots of covered stalls and plenty of them too. Set up, signed in easily enough, wristband of the "hairy wrist removal" type and chrono'd the pews. Simples. Safety brief was just that. Safe and brief. The marshal stopped a couple of times to get people to actually listen, which was nice. Tea and water was free issue. YAY! caffeine!! Marshalls were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble. Big group of first timers next to us were asking all sorts of "first timer" questions and were given the info they needed. Daft questions are only the ones you dont ask, right? First game and happy to say, me and the boy were the first 2 to die!!! LOL! Fall back to the next section and await the arrival of the attacking team. Lots of encouragement from the marshalls, lots of skirmishes and firefights. I had no idea the site was as big as it was. The place is HUGE!!! 2nd game was a swap around of the first, learned by my mistakes this time, still got shot in the nuts though. Back to safe zone at the end of the game, reload, needed somewhere to get hot food but apparently thats being sorted out shortly after their usual guy parted company with them. Really good crowd. Good mix of noobs, casuals, nutters and seasoned players. Everyone was friendly. No stitch counters that i could see. I saw very little in the way of blatant cheating. Marshall seemed to be in the thick of it every time i looked which probably helped. The First timers were having an absolute scream and came back to safezone bouncing with excitement (i imagine lots of war stories at work today, wherever they are!). They looked like they had a blast! Good mix of games in the afternoon, some proper up close and personal stuff mixed with long rangey stuff for the bolters. Left knackered and happy. Pros: Great site. Great staff. Great games. Cons: Need a shop on site so i can "win more pews in the raffle " type of thing. Also the Infinity ammo they sell does not agree with any of my pews. Shonky quality but hey, small con really. Conclusion: I'LL BE BACK!!!!2 points

Generally, but not always: yes, yes, no, and you shouldn't be stabbing anyone with anything, let alone round a corner where you can't see what you're poking at. "Knife kills" should be carefully laying a hand or some toy on someone from behind, only as hard as necessary to make them aware of it, not engaging in any sort of fencing match. None of these should be "unspoken", they should be covered clearly at the briefing. If your regular site(s) aren't doing that, you might want to have a constructive word with the staff and remind them that there's no way for new players or visitors to know how they expect the game to be played unless they tell them.2 points

Like is it generally frowned upon if you get too close to enemy spawn because it is spawn camping? Yes. Should you call hits if your own team shot you? Yes. Does ricochet count as hits? Not at the sites I play. Direct hits only. How do you execute a knife kill, and does it only count if the enemy hasn't noticed you and if you do it , or can you engage a enemy around a corner and try to land a stab as they try to shoot you or is this not allowed? Engage however you want, they have to shoot to kill you. You cannot force their weapon "off line". The best way to get a knife kill is from a flank or be faster than them. A couple of personal ones I feel should be standard; If you shoot someone and they look hurt, you stop what you're doing as see if they're okay. This mainly applies to CQC sites and especially for rental players as they tend to be given crap gear by sites. If you can't figure out who shot who first because it was such a close call, you both take the hit (trade) and go back to spawn. Don't touch others gear without asking first. If you find anything on a field that's clerarly out of place/lost, you bring it to marshalls, not pocket it. Edit: Forgot the most important one; ALWAYS help your rentals. Balance teams so rentals are even spaced and actually have a chance, not constantly getting demolished by the more experienced players and/or speedsoft lads. They're the lifeblood of this hobby/sport and preventing them from having fun means they'll never come again.2 points -
Never played at a site where ricochet count, but i am pretty damn sure i have taken hits from drops of rain before, cause you are never quiet sure.2 points

The trick I found for the hop was to trim the arm shorter. So you can't catch it. Once set add a tiny dot of glue to fix in place but not so much you can't undo it with a bit of a push just incase you need to.1 point -
I've used a Warrior Assault System DCS plate carrier for years and would really recommend their kit. I've had cheaper gear fall apart in the first day of playing, while my DCS has taken an absolute beating and the worst thing that's happened is it gets dusty or muddy which just washes off. You can sometimes find bundles that save a bit of money on pouches, but can mean you are paying for pouches you don't use. Mine came with utility pouches that sat in a drawer for years until I discovered they held my LMG box mags, but then I'd rather use a belt and yoke with that setup anyway. In hindsight unless the bundle is good, or you have experience with plate carriers I would buy a plate carrier and slowly add pouches to see how you get on. I find pouches that block my arm movement really irritating(where utility pouches tend to go), other players don't mind them at all.1 point
-
One unspoken rule I've seen a fair bit is marshals pretending they aren't aware of their regulars making a habit of not taking hits. Got told at one site by some players on my team they just have to play around a particular group to have an enjoyable day.1 point

Unspoken rules in airsoft?
JamesAirsofterAgent reacted to Esoterick for a topic
Especially in CQB, where it's easier to trade hits, if you think you hit someone and vice versa you should both take the hit. I've taken hits where I've been reasonably sure they missed me in the interest of promoting good play. Generally speaking it's good practice. You can normally spot a dodgy player if you casually say "you sure I didn't hit you?" after calling your hit and they get weirdly aggressive. Ricochet hits are for sites with silly rules and they open players up to getting overkilled. Someone clears a room by spamming fire into it and where they are firing from is the only exit. How do you get out? I also don't think players should give the impression they are out of play to flank and get kills. Once had a player get behind our team by feigning having lost something, only to knife us all. It was funny, but it encourages players to shoot players that could be injured, lost etc... ofc if they have their hands up they are actively cheating.1 point -

Had a good day at Skirmish Wycombe on Sunday, played together with a few forum members. Won the first two games (point capture) quite easy as we had some fast runners (myself included) run forward, get the point and from there on it was just defend as good as possible, both games (switching sides for the 2nd) went similarly so it wasn't because one side had better ground or something. Personal highlight: shooting people's feet when they thought they were safe behind a barrier. another highlight, sneaking into a building the other team was convinced was controlled by theirs, Shot a gun that was peaking through the doorway (guy wasn't wearing gloves, sorry not sorry😅) and got a "I'm team Red!!" shouted at me, which was answered with an "I'm not!" After that a couple of attack and defend missions. I had some trouble getting most of my team to advance so ended up running forward myself hoping the rest would follow (some of them did...) Got a nice blood blister on my left hand ringfinger thanks to a point blank shot when I went around a barrier (told him afterwards he's a [moderated] but good shot) Last 2 missions were attack and defend again, but this time a different one, attacking a hill, always my favourite at this site). Managed to sneak up one side with a few other players and slowly managed our way to the other side (but again had difficulty getting the rest of the team to advance). Other team ended taking the hill in 4 seconds(!!) less than us, so that was annoying... 😅 Overall, good day, 10/10, would do again. Now looking forward to Red Alerts Battlesim light on Sunday, need to find my radio pouch again...1 point -
