Ah that's a real shame about the site being a scam, clearly my scam radar isn't great, but I guess when something seems too good to be true it usually is. Hopefully everyone can get their money back. Also very sorry to anyone who might have bought something from them due to my comment!3 points -

Ambush - Netflix
Dan Robinson and 2 others reacted to rj1986 for a topic
For most films, it's passable. For films like John Wick, it wouldn't work - but films like that have more stringent H&S checks in place due to the nature of the choreography. And as i work in CGI/VFX, spotting fake or poorly done muzzle flash, shell ejection and the like can ruin a film. Like those Sky made action films - they look dreadful (among many other bad things about them). Edit: Also, after spending time on set with replica and prop firearms - the armorers i've worked with would blow a bollock if they were on that Rust set. It's annoying that 2 people not following the rules cast shade on the whole profession. Imagine if they banned train drivers after a rail accident - hyperbole, yes, but a whole industry and profession shouldn't have to change because 2 people didn't follow standard, strict rules. 2nd edit: Also the knock on effect - VFX ain't cheap. So the budget comes from somewhere. The studio pockets (lol), or the VFX budget. Which means corners get cut, artists get squeezed and underpaid, or it gets outsourced to India. They always saying "fix it in post" when people in post always say "Get it in camera".3 points -
I did have a bit of a hiatus, but I’m back and I’m still mooching around in the team kit flying the flag, but I think you and I are the only ones playing regularly. It’s always good when someone from back in the day spots the team patch though and we reminisce over the old days. If I can get a few people of a similar vibe to the old crew together I might ask Rev nicely if I can reform the team. Work permitting I’m getting out there a couple of times a month, but it’s a difference to my student days where I’d play every Sunday. As far as numbers at my local goes there’s certainly no let up, and what’s promising is the amount of rentals who are enthusiastic and want to get into the hobby properly. Granted, it makes me feel old seeing kids who weren’t born when I started playing play their first game. People will always find money and time for their hobbies, and whilst there’ll no doubt be some shrinkage of players and sites when people tighten their belts I’m confident that the core of both that makes the game what it is will stay the course. Being super cynical it might concentrate the minds of sites to make sure that everyone has the best day possible, so any sites that aren’t hot on the basics (chronoing, marshalling, letting muppets who deliberately headshoot for the ‘Tube continue to play etc.) will lose players and feel the squeeze. Thankfully the sites I play at are exceptional and have a great bunch of players so I’m confident they’ll be fine. They’re even opening up a new site! Also, whilst it’s counterintuitive, the summer can see a drop in players. Just like the depths of winter the extremes of summer can lead to people swerving a day or two, and if they’ve got to entertain the kids for the summer holidays and/or go on vacation the slush fund spent on skirmishing can be spent on other things for a couple of months. All in all, down this neck of the woods Airsoft is still very much alive and kicking!3 points

Really? I never knew that, he wrote ironically. Did you not read my statement "...assuming that the spring strength remains constant."? Did you not realise that my comment was made in the context of this thread in order to demonstrate that, except where there is premature engagement, motor speed does not affect the power output? Look, I get that you are an utter twat; why don't you do this forum a favour and fuck off to reddit or FB, where your inaccurate teching advice would fit in really well?2 points -

TacticalWaifu and one other reacted to Rogerborg for a topic
Please don't take it personally, we're just super-wary about scammers at the moment. On that: You don't have to do this, but it helps to assure buyers that you're not just using stock pictures to bait buyers with things that you don't have. I'd also recommend that you say what payments you'll accept (i.e. PayPal goods and services) and whether your prices include postage (and if not, how much you want for it). Also, please include any PayPal fees that you want the buyer to cover in your listed price, rather than adding things on later. Best of luck with the sales.2 points -
Seems like first one, then t'other. The first visit was when an air-gun was caught during importation, and he invited them in and tried the "Honest mistake, seller said it'd be fine" exculpation. Then later, after a report by a vengeful wife concerned citizen, they came back with a warrant for more of the spicy-boi air-pistol firearms that for some galaxy brained reason he still hadn't got shot of despite having been charged for the one they already knew about. I'll double-down on my comment that the air-guns that got him in a pickle have nothing to do with airsoft, and the bloke's a prize prick for trying to claim otherwise. While I don't agree with Scotch air-gun law, a loicence is "shall-issue" and he could have applied for one at any time.2 points

As for scam sites, there was someone attempting to impersonate Crown Airsoft and had a very convincing site. Only thing that got my spidey sense tingling was the fact that their stuff was about $100 cheaper than everywhere else. After looking about their site a bit more the name of the site was spelt wrong; CrownAirosoft. At a glance, it's easy to miss. The fake site has since been stripped to it's standard layout presumably by the hosting service. I try my hardest to pay with paypal everywhere on the internet just in case my brain turns off and I get scammed.2 points

I have one of those; there are far too many proprietary parts, including the hop unit and the hop rubber. Airsoft Surgeon does an upgrade rubber but it is not particularly great. The hop design is very poor and requires regular fettling to get it to hop BBs properly. In the UK, they are generally branded as Cybergun and Milbro. I would not recommend them.2 points -

Mmm, it's hard to tell what actually happened there, legally speaking. Could be UKARA, UKAPU or UKASA. Either way, blagging our defence rather than scamming (e.g.) the Military Vehicle Trust means that hanging's too good for him. Not that I actually think he did anything wrong morally, but pragmatically, he's brought some unwelcome attention to our hobby.2 points -
The overall article is hard to establish the relevant facts ……. But there appear to be two distinct ‘incidents’ : 1) of importing a RiF (assuming ‘air gun’ means airsoft gun) without a valid defence, an overpowered RIF/IF, or actually an air rifle (subject to a certificate in Scotland) assuming that “UK air soft association” is meant to be UKARA which would back up his belief that it was a legal import, but other statements show that his intention was collection rather than playing assuming that “member of various gun clubs” didn’t equate to turning up at an airsoft site to skirmishes This incident resulted in a visit and confiscation of the import Either importing a RIF and they were not happy with the defence, an overpowered RIF bit subject to the firearms act exemption or an air gun subject to a certificate in Scotland Davidson pleaded guilty to attempting to import an air rifle into the UK on June 6, 2020. 2) A second incident folllowing the reporting of possession of a firearm (PPK) This appeared to have been claimed to be a ‘model pistol’, and has turned out to be an imitation (RIF or replica? Either are legal, but certification is referenced. Was it an air pistol ? He also admitted to possessing a handgun without holding the appropriate certification on February 18, 2021. His solicitors defence in court removes any RIF defence as collecting isn’t a valid purpose, but the primary intent of that legal defence being to show that his client wasn’t an intentional baddie and had assumed everything was legitimate: Mr Smith said Davidson had used inheritance money to “accumulate the collection” and that he was “a collector and not a user”. ……….. It could be overkill, but the first import just resulted in it being refused entry and confiscated - which if it was a RIF is the ‘correct’ result for an imported RIF outside of the VCRA purposes / defences. The second incident following the report of a firearm could be of course a malicious report, but could also be as a result of irresponsible ownership Based on some other threads in recent months involving possession and the police the underlying question would be why they got involved (the import is an obvious reason, and one poster on here has had the police turn up as a result of importing but had a different outcome even though the individuals wider collection was revealed - valid use etc)2 points

This. A lower voltage battery (whether it's a 7.4v compared to an 11.1v, or a dying battery compared to a fresh one) will cycle the GB slower but not affect the fps. The muzzle energy is down to the potential energy in the compressed spring2 points -
Fps inconsistency
Shamal and one other reacted to Colin Allen for a topic
The power spring in an airsoft gun is a mechanism for storing energy. When the spring is released, that energy is expended in overcoming whatever is preventing the spring returning to its pre-compressed length, which can be friction in the guide rails or between the piston head O ring and the cylinder, or air resistance. Provided that the spring is always compressed to the same length, the energy stored will always be the same, regardless of how that compression is achieved, assuming that the spring strength remains constant..2 points -
I think covid would have had a small impact on numbers, but it's likely those bods would have drifted away eventually anyway. I'm more inclined to blame the "cost of living crisis", literally everything has rocketed in price (except maybe Airsoft green fees ?), & for most Airsoft is low down the list of financial commitments, less disposable income will make people reevaluate their priorities. IMHO 🤔2 points

Personally, I've found a Carrera 2S is all you need and generates so much grip you really don't need the 4S. Although the 4S is very popular as it's got the same wide-body as the turbo (minus the air intakes on the rear arches) and the continuous light-strip for easy identification. oh, it says 1911 not 911 ... as you were 😉1 point

At the very least I'd recommend the newer "Cybergun" (Armorer Works). Unlike the KWC version you can get gas mags and fill them with powerful gas in the winter. The hop arm is made of something akin to tin foil though, so you'll need to play around with various options to get it to do what you want. This is the one I went for: https://www.bullseyecountrysport.co.uk/cybergun-armorer-works-colt-1911-full-trademarks-2020-ver-airsoft-pistol-co2-version-41065-p.asp1 point -

Unsurprising that others are recommending them, TM tend to be the best in this regard, between realism and reliability, nothing else compares. If you fancied a bit of a change, Elite Force do a 1911 TAC CO2 -- it's actually made by KWC, but EF handle the licensing, packaging, QA, etc. Solid, and CO2 gives it a decent blowback/kick. Full-metal, the KWA M1911 NS2 P2P Mk IV works well - solid, gas-efficient, but a little pricey. Proprietary hop-up and bucking though, so you won't be swapping them out. KJW KP07 M1911 deserves a mention -- MEU 1911 features, but as it's TM-spec parts, there are lots of options for swapping out or upgrading things. Not technically a TM, but a reasonable specced option out of the box, without TM pricing. Narrator: "Having wanted reliability and finding nothing to compare, Skullchewer now has four TM pistols." 😁 Alas the KJW will be a clone of the Tokyo Marui, so -- while decent enough (albeit missing the branding) -- I fear I may be too TM-like for @Skullchewer1 point -

Airsoft boots - what to buy? (Was in the 'how did your day go' thread)

My boots have arrived! Very good condition, good size (fairly snug, once I'd put some cushion insoles in them - I hope my feet don't swell tooooo much through the day) Very happy at £38 inc postage off eBay (a one-off sale, though the seller does quite a bit of surplus stuff). Noticeably not as much ankle support as my high-top para boots (well, duh) but a good deal lighter and more comfortable. M'wife keeps on at me to go on some 'power walks' with her... as I can't find my proper jogging trainers anywhere, I think I'll wear these instead, get them moulded to my tootsies in preparation for the next game day.1 point -

Is UK airsoft losing steam?
Rogerborg reacted to TacticalWaifu for a topic
SO MUCH THIS. It's the regular folks that are the meat and veg of venues going, and keeping places running strong. I saw an (USian) airsoft YouTuber recently complaining about folk who'd turn up with fancy guns, and then beg to borrow play fees... like, my dude, if you can't afford to pay for yourself, why should I believe you'd be able to pay me back? Green fees are a weird one. I think some people don't like the idea of x chunk of change going on y amount of time running around, but venues still have bills, insurance, etc. to pay, so it's important - and £5 or £10 a game generally isn't going to cut it. If they could see their fee per hours of skirmishing, or per smile (cheesy, I know) they'd probably feel better about it -- but the Gucci gear folks would rather put the money towards a shiny toy, than the opportunity to have fun and actually use it 🤷♀️1 point -
Always try to get my head around we airsofters balk at green fees yet spend thousands on gun/gear I can't think of many all day activities that cost less than airsoft green fees (£36 would last you maybe two rounds for four people in the pub these days.1 point

Totally depends on the chemistry. The main difference between "traditional" Li-Ion cells and Li-poly cells is that the dielectric in Li-Ion is liquid where the dielectric in LiPo is a dry or gel type polymer (which is more stable and less prone to thermal runaway). They can both have varying chemistry depending on application. It's all down to the chemistry and physics of battery charge. If your battery for example is 1000mAh capacity and you charge from flat at a rate of 1C (ie 1x battery capacity in Amps - in this case 1 Amp) then it will take about an hour. If you charge the same battery at 3C (3 Amps) then yes, it will take around 20 minutes. The point we have tried to help you understand is that not ALL LiPos charge "in 20 minutes" because it depends on a) their max capacity, b) how flat it is and c) what rate you charge them at.1 point
