  2. Wrists or lower forearm is generally what I do when wearing my cobra hood and I can attest to what you're saying here. All through the summer I wear OD trousers, a black t-shirt and a cobra hood that has had no crafting done to it whatsoever (it's just an evolution of the scrim net over boonie trick I used to do to break up silhouette) and I still have people walk right by me. Airsofters are pretty blind in general I'm pretty adamant on the point that people should learn how to hide before investing in a ghillie. The best suit in the world won't make up for crappy fieldcraft and I relish in counter-sniping ghillies who don't know how to use it.

  3. Hope this is acceptable! A friend of mine who makes airsoft gameplay videos is doing some site review videos as well now, for anyone Scotland-based or considering trying out sites up this end here's his first video of Area 66, a site in the Glasgow area. Text-based summary if you'd prefer: - Good off-field facilities - Friendly marshals - Good game area with a lot of mixed terrain - The Castle (centrepiece, seen in video thumbnail) is an awesome piece of terrain that creates some intense mixed CQB+open battles as teams fight to both storm the fort and besiege it.

  4. I think cheating might be a strong word for it, although it does seem borderline. I would definitely class any attempt to make your armband less visible as unsporting to say the least, to your own team and the opposition. Nobody wants to be that guy who lights up the friendly sniper who snuck into such a good position he's intermingled with the opposition, and that hesitation after spotting them can easily see you out of the game instead. Which to me feels unfair, if we came across a non-ghillie player wearing the band under their kit, we would call that out immediately, but for some reason some ghillie guys seem to think they're above the rules, everyone else, and fair play. SOME ghillie guys, but that mentality, almost like they're the protagonist, and everyone else are NPCs whos experience is irrelevant, does seem to be more prevalent among our scrim wearing brethren.

  5. Perhaps I was a tad harsh - but this isn't reddit - incorrect information needs to be stomped on quickly and firmly. And the subject has been covered ad nauseam - I couldn't be arsed to type out the same old bollocks about it. Next time I'll try to slightly nicer about it. 😉

  7. Patently incorrect. Perhaps you should do a bit of research on the topic. There's plenty of threads knocking around on these very forums about the variable of barrel length in relation to overall accuracy.

  10. Wrist. In all the years I've been playing people have NEVER turned up like this to a game (that's not to say they don't but I certainly haven't seen it) I wore one once and as I say above the wrists seems to be the most sensible approach - I had both taped by the Marshal which I had no issues at all with. I don't understand everyone wants to resemble a 70's porn stars mossy cleft than do anything even close to as interesting as the picture above because of the popularized swamp donkey gimp suit. Time and time again I notice that people seem to assume a ghillie is the must have for concealment when in actual fact airosfters are generally like a slightly dimmer version of a t-rex being that if you don't move chances are you wont get noticed if you have a decent solid colour or pattern on. I miss CafeRacing (if you don't know him look him up on YouTube)

  12. Or switch to a shorter but tighter barrel, a 247mm one will sit flush with the 14mm CCW threads while keeping the power up.

  14. I'll put in a vote for a JG G36, even though you didn't shortlist it. My mates one ran for far far longer and far far better than it had any right to considering the total lack of maintenance he provided. To the tune of 5+ years he only ever cleaned the barrel and it just kept on trucking. Have you considered pouches yet? I know G36 mags can be bulky, and they have the locking lugs sticking out of the side. Most people seem to use single pouches from what I've seen, pouches designed to have two M4 type magazines together often won't fit two G36 mags. Just something to bear in mind when choosing kit. Welcome to the forum mate.

  16. I used the cheap Chinese gloves for years, usually replacing them every 6 - 9 months. I also wore them on the bike cycling to work, camping and urbexing though. Then last year I picked up a pair of mechanix fast fit gloves for a few quid more. So fat they're hilding up far better than the cheaper ones. The fast fit ones are slightly thinner and allow great finger dexterity (we all know how more fiddly pouches can suddenly get in those oh shit moments) but a trade off is that being thinner and not armoured you don't get such good protection from hits.

  17. Tobiasc95, first thing to check is the magazines. Check that the indent that holds the mag release catch is clean and undamaged. If they are then the issue is likely in the magwell. If you undo the screw on the larger paddle side of the mag release you should be able to remove all of the parts and inspect them. If the magazines are okay, then you should be able to gently bend the mag release bar to move the hook part of the unit more into the mag well. Pictures will help greatly if following the above doesn't make sense or doesn't work. For future reference if a magazine gets jammed in the mag well undoing the screw on the large mag release paddle allows the entire catch system to be pushed through and off the well completely. If you need any other info I've done quite a bit to my g&g 308 so stand a good chance of being able to answer questions.

  18. Probably the elites or spec ops. The patrol gloves are quite thin, good for camo but not much for dulling a bb. But at the price of the elites you're not far off of a pair of mechanix.

  19. They are rebadging slightly better stuff these days but I would still go for Mechanix over them every day mostly because Mechanix gloves actually fit me properly. Pretty much every other manufacturer I've tried has either had fingers too long or the thumb is a weird size.

  20. This might be useful to someone, I Recently bought a CYMA CM.045 AKS-74U and just wanted to share that Its possible to add a B&T tracer unit with a 1" barrel extender and HFX 212 grommet from Halfords, which means you don't need to cut 2-3cm from the inner barrel and lose any range

  24. Had a decent day out at Killzone Airsoft. A short 10 minute drive from my house which is always welcome! Ran my MTW as a DMR instead of "AEG" was sending 0.36's a really nice distance. I was player marshal to help the owners out who are good mates of mine. A good group of players turned up and some decent games played. Still very much finding their feet with what game modes work on the site Got some lovely MK23 kills, probably more with my pistol today than DMR. Borrowed a range finder and Joe (one of the owners) kindly let me take pot shots at him with my sniper at 85m. Unfortunately the wind was pretty strong but im fairly confident on a calmer day I've have domed him at 80m 😂 Towards the end of the day there was only 5 of us left so did a couple of free for all style games, probably should have just gone home though as Im now on my first night shift and im incredibly tired.

  25. Eh, Viper. See also, meh, Nuprol. I cheap out on a lot of stuff, and tend to buy twice and cry twice, but would thoroughly recommend the Mechanix M-Pact gloves linked above. I've tried gloves with both less and more armour, and the M-Pacts hit the sweet spot for protection and trigger...ability.

  27. But sadly G&G look to have priced themselves out of the market now. Very decent guns, basic but everything works well, but with no bells or whistles and a price point closer to £200 than £100 I just can't see that they make sense any more.

  29. Played at Z-mart again last night and it's fair to say everyone had a ball. There were only 9 players so all the marshals joined in too, so after the first couple of infection games were out of the way and everyone had their bearings, we spent the rest of the night in a players v marshals format for all the games. It was a great atmosphere and while we all arrived in groups we fast just became a group of 14 people (head marshal included) that were just having a laugh and a pew on a Thursday night in an old Debenhams store. Games were fun, varied and fast-paced - which you'd expect from the numbers - turning all the lights off for the grab the objects game was a new one for me and was a real learning curve in torch usage, tracer fire was a sight to behold! Just in case anyone had any doubt with regard to eyepro, mine took a direct hit and I even watched the BB shatter! My Bolle glasses weren't expensive but they did their job perfectly. All in all, a great night, need to book my next visits to get my UKARA sorted out (t-minus 55 days - not that I'm countng 😉) and then I can get something to attach all these accessories I've been buying to.

  30. A "Rossi" VSR type sniper rifle bought from the classifieds, my first dip of a toe into the bolt-action waters... good fun plinking in the garden at least! And I enjoyed doing the faux multicam rattle-can job on the stock, I think it came out reasonably well. I used a bit of camo net as the stencil. And I just picked up a set of Viper multicam trousers, t-shirt and hoodie for a very low price from Action Hobbies - supporting my local retailer, one bargain at a time! Apart from exotic stuff like Lee Enfields, SLRs, and maybe another HPA gun, my main hankering now is for a cheap H&K MP5, or a G36K. But perhaps I ought to actually go skirmishing...?

  31. My belt kit is minimalist and has evolved over the years. It consists of several types of camo and is ugly as sin, but works very well. I used a set of shoulder straps from a bergen to stop it hanging too low. I could have spent serious money for something less useful.

  32. Probably because thats what you said. Many non ghillie users will often wear stuff that helps with camouflage but are capable of wearing the band on their arm and staying concealed. Claiming that you can't stay hidden with a 2 inch band on your arm is simply bullshit

  33. Last Sunday's game was a bit crap. A few questionable "misses" from really close and in general I wasn't enjoying it. Also decided to get rid of the Helikon TMR, not a bad rig by any means, it's just that my priorities have shifted and it doesn't fit the bill anymore. In the meantime I borrowed an HSGI SureGrip belt from a friend to try out, I've been thinking about building a belt kit for a while especially for those 8h+ games where mobility and weight saving is key.

  34. I took a trip down to Bunker 51 for the first time. On the whole I enjoyed it as the staff were friendly, helpful and knew what they were doing. On the down side I found there were some who seemed reluctant to call hits and needed 4 or 5 shots before calling it Also I'm glad I picked a mid week game as there was only 13 players on site. I got the impression that if the site was fully booked (30 is the max iirc) it would be far too crowded. All in all I think I'll go back, but probably not at a weekend

Here we have the evolution of my cheapie JG RPK bought off here from Hutt armouries few years ago. Iv had fun learning how to take this all part and work on it modernising it along the way. originally I was just going to replace the externals but straight away I could tell I’d need to upgrade the hop unit as the range was awful. things Iv replaced are JG Stock adaptor, LCT stock, CA upper and RS poly lower hand guard, pistol grip, LCT tactical selector, LCT drum magazine, TWI aluminium rails, combat union hop unit mapleaf macaron 50’ omega nub, CU air nozzle. I’ll upgrade the gearbox internals as and when they go. currently chrono’s 348-351 on 0.2s Lovely MG platform, lighter and more manoeuvrable than a belt fed.

  36. Great weekend run by Gunman at Eversley Alpha. The unusual feature of this event was that the VC and PAVN forces would have to stand and fight as a conventional unit. Two man fire teams were possible, but both units would fight as groups. Since both outfits tent to be harder to heard than cats, this promised an interesting weekend! Friday night was the usual banter around a roaring fire, plenty of beers and the now traditional brandy and cigars. Obviously one wishes to prepare oneself before a weekend of vigorous activity; and a few coronas and balloons of Courvoisier help tremendously. These were enjoyed after a large helping of exquisite curry cooked by one of the players. Just because we’re in tents doesn’t mean that we slum it. Saturday morning saw a few regulars and several newcomers take to the field. Being VC, our task was to kill and capture when possible GIs. The PAVN faction had a whole set of objectives that our hit and run chaos was to aid. We would tie the GIs up, whilst the PAVN did their thing. This was really enjoyable as we formed a three man fire team and played havoc with tripwires and ambushes, occasionally posing as civilians in order to delay or divert the enemy. Being equipped with explosives and an LSW, we had a fair bit of wallop when we did attack. A good feature of the site is the regular fly pasts by vintage aircraft. The noise allowed for seriously rapid deployment in deep cover as the noise covered the sound of the movement. In the area around the brewery section of the site, I played a blinder. Being separated from my team as one player had become separated, and the other lost their rifle playing civilian, I attacked alone. Seriously I was on the ball, and managed kill after kill with no hits to myself. I was located at one point, but both grenades that were thrown failed to explode. I must have trodden in some lucky shit I think. For the first time I wished that I had kept count of the kill/death ratio. Another team member claimed 18/3. My personal highlight was locating the enemy in a trench and earwigging their plans, radioing these to command and getting comfortable until they moved out twenty minutes later. When I got eyes on, I realised that the players were two regulars and my son. I laughed out loud as I took each one out. The family that sprays together etc… At close of play, we had given the GIs a good pasting as a team, with the PAVN having carried out all of their objectives. The US players had recovered quickly after each attack and also done well, so good work all round. For the first time ever at one of these games, someone mentioned hit taking, which I think shocked us all, but I think with hindsight that someone was playing less than switched on rather than taking the piss. The heat was not too bad, but humidity was really high, and I can understand a bit of sloppy play at days end. Everyone was seriously wilting. The night time was very relaxed after the day’s events. The new bars were still full of singing idiots until late and we talked over the day’s game over steaks and scotch. Sunday was more objective based. A series of escape routes had to be closed by the US and defended by the Vietnamese. This went less well than Saturday. Two Viet fireteams came across almost the whole US force, and not realising their error, stood and fought. The outcome was inevitable and we lost all three citations and only hid our equipment box by luck. We all went back to respawn well chastened. Bollox! Splitting our team into two we felt on more familiar ground. As a team of four we re-entered the field and followed in the US’s path. Doing this we retrieved our equipment and hid it ready for another opportunity. We also managed to win a quick firefight with a recce squad that we bumped. This cheered us up considerably. Close of play was frustrating. We prepared a damn good all units ambush only for the US to rumble our plans and some fool to open fire all too soon. We got a thorough drubbing and deserved it for the lack of fire discipline. One thing or so of note: The new players were not as switched on as the old hands. I noticed that when we patrolled, the experienced players held their rifs at the ready whilst the newbies used the carry handles right into the objectives. New players not only talked, but did so loudly, actually bickering about plans rather than confirming quietly via radio. Loose buckles rattled, equipment thunked and twigs cracked like gunshots. None knew any hand signals either. It soon became an educational weekend too. Hits of the weekend: I honestly played better than ever before Saturday. The social was fantastic. My wife played too, and is developing into a seriously good player. She now wants a lightweight machine pistol. What would anyone recommend? We will try her with the lads Skorpion, but I expect that she’ll want her own 60’s rapid fire sidearm soon. She also fancies a lightweight sniper rifle. You can imagine how gutted I am at the thought of yet another gun. Favourite bit: chap shaking hands at the end of game stating that we were the sneakiest bastards that he’d ever played against. This was especially generous as I aimed for his rucksack as he ran away… and all five/six shots hit him on the arse. I did apologise. The heroes who got us a couple of gallons of water from Tesco deserve a mention too. Moans: where were we all? The best games on the whole calendar IMHO and we were seriously depleted. I would say that only a third of the expected players were there. This did not affect the gameplay as such, which was great, but I did miss a few faces. Seriously, playing this type of event once a month leaves our old bi-weekly skirmishing routine lacking. Anyhow, another great Gunman event, as expected. I’ll do the next at the end of the month, and one in October. I might just skirmish over the winter unless a Soviet themed game comes up, or possibly partisan based. Whatever, it will be a blast.
