The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread

Amazing game again at Diggers Namsoft themed game in Kent. A little down on numbers perhaps this year and a small decline in green machine players. A shame that work and weddings seem to clash with the important things in life! Anyhow, arrived on Friday feeling wiped out due to lack of sleep, but soon felt good relaxing with mates old and new. |Met a few new faces at their first game. I did wonder if a whole weekend of airsoft would stagger them but they were young and full of vim as they used to say. Bloody good relaxed night around the campfire was a good way to start a game weekend I think. Day one and each of three Aussie squads were put together. Each was given a particular mission. Ours was to patrol an area and search for VC. This was a win on their part as we never found them and they completed their objectives. We did keep busy and tbh, we needed the time to get into the swing of things. A shake up run was important to get people into roles within the group. It took a few minutes to get us all in order of march and to work out who was best point or tail end Charlie. The odd firefight with rapidly disappearing foes kept us alert to say the least. After three quarters of an hour, we were rushing out to fights on the Land Rover, being RPG’d, ambushed, and counter ambushing. It was spectacular fun and pretty exhilarating. The vehicles and array of weapons was excellent. I realised that I had a good kill to death ratio at one point, only to get marmalised for the next few fights. The afternoon was started with sounds of rockets and large flames as a simulated plane downing took place. Now we had a race to the crash site with the VC arriving first and putting up stiff resistance as they withdrew with both black box and pilot. Won the battle but lost the fight… A break for evening meal, and we were back in base at 7 o clock. As darkness fell, we had been frustrated by countless /VC sqauds appearing and having to be chased and (occasionally) engaged. The whole damn lot of them then attacked. Seriously, the night games at this event and Arclight have been the absolute best I’ve ever played. Really pulse pounding stuff and only luck denied the VC victory. A couple of grenades a few feet further and they would have overrun us easily. As it was I was not taken out until someone jumped atop the bunker I manned. Not sure if they did get my shirt sleeve with their pistol, but the audacity and speed that they showed were impressive and I took the hit whatever, sat back and watched the fight unfold as best I could. The landmines hidden at the base entrance gave couple of players a loud surprise. Another night under canvas and one of the best things about airsoft was evident. I had a few beers with a chap I would never have normally met, but which revealed a similar life in similar family and work circumstances a mere continent away; eye opening stuff and another face to add to the people to have a beer with. Swapping home cooked food was good too. Went to bed full of single malt, aged brandy, fine cigars and top notch grub various corners of the world. Sunday was a raid on the VC camp to retrieve both box and pilot. A most intense firefight that lasted almost two hours left us exhausted and hot but victorious. It also left us embarrassed as several people had left and the VC were only about a third of our number… I’ll resist the temptation to bang on any more. I had a seriously good weekend again, with top notch players, no no hit calling, arguments or any other unwelcome bollox. A full twelve hours or so full on airsoft with vehicles, fireworks, mines, RPGs, a tight rule set and good playing standards, and had good time after game pigging out with friends. Top quality and I can’t wait until the June game at Eversley. I prefer a top quality game weekend once a month with the odd day skirmish to the fortnightly skirmish that I did for years. More sites, better playing standards and a great social.7 points -

Partly that, you do feel a lot more confident when armoured up, even when it's out of proportion to the protection offered - I've formed a theory that this is a key factor in morale. There's also the consideration that the more armour you see, the harder you'll start to hit. This also has airsoft implications. The more you experience Crye-babies claiming "Didn't feel nothing, mate" as you whang BBs off of their plate carriers and stacks-o-gear, the heavier you're going to get on the trigger compared to being up against Team Mankini.4 points
-
Possibly the result of being overly confident in what the armour could protect from so take greater risks and end up with worse injuries ? Yup all of the above , I do hate it when someone tries to pigeon hole others but my take is it’s sort of like the whole ‘alpha male/female V beta male/female’ thing , the people who are willing to take risks(no matter how regulated and controlled they may be)seem to generally be drawn more to the pastimes based on individual achievement and not as much on ‘team’ achievements , and as a result more chance of injury than the “I’m not doing that I mite get hurt” type of person who generally stick to structured team pastimes which have a lessened risk of injury. As an example In Airsofting yes your on the blue or red team but there not teams in the traditional sense where everyone has an assigned job to perform these teams are almost more of a faction than a team used purely for group identification purposes , so we can tell ‘our team’ and avoid shooting our own side ‘in the heat of battle’ as it were . So more of an Alpha than a beta because there prepared that if they do fail then it’s a good chance it’s due to their own failings and not really the teams responsibility ?4 points

Downloaded a KWA Ronin battery extension model from Thingiverse, but it was a bit shit and Fusion 360 is pretty rubbish editing STL files. Ended up using the measurements and designed a new one that can take a chunkier RC LiPo of which I have many knocking about. (Left = Thingiverse left, Right = mine)3 points -

I expect historic reenactment or HEMA (Historic European Martial Arts), i.e. fighting with swords and axes and glaives and such. Generally pretty safe as most training starts with not hurting people, but accidents happen even with blunted weapons. I'm down a front tooth due to a langsaex, I'd love to say doing something heroic, but it was dropped on my face while I was lying on the ground. There seems to be a fair bit of overlap between airsoft, punchy and hitty-weapon sports, and motorcycling, which I would generalise as "adrenaline, warrior spirit, dumbness and optimism". My most pathetic current injury is a strained thumb from hauling on the anchors too hard on my Royal Enfield which is making it ouchy to grip a toy gun so I'm involuntarily practicing off-hand shooting. Life, and idiots, find a way. 🙄3 points

Evike now have a warehouse in europe (France apparently) and are shipping to the UK. https://evike-europe.com/ username: Evike Password: Europe for early bird access use WELCOME20 for 20% off your first order. They say that orders for the UK are VAT exempt: https://evike-europe.com/delivery-methods - does that mean they pay the VAT? UK delivery in 2-3 days by DPD (it's not UPS!! ) Free shipping on orders over 150 euros Customs fees apply (whatever that means) Might be worth a punt. At a glance it looks like they are gunfire.com-ish prices with some bettter some worse. LCT stuff with euro to GBP exchange rate and 20% off and free shipping comes out quite reasonable. Some RIFs like the scorpion evo and cyma sr25 are "prohibited from sale" in the UK and a few other countries for reasons unknown.2 points

whilst you can run without sights, having a repeatable point of reference really helps for anything beyond a few feet. needless to say proper irons are better than barrel sighting, red dots better still. magnified optics are tricky, they're useful for shot tracking (ie verifying your pew is shooting where you think it is) at extreme range, and checking target honesty but at the cost of speed in terms of getting into the eyebox and onto the target. as a general rule i tend to stick to red dots on rifles and irons on pistols, not a fan of pistol dots as the few times i've tried them it seemed to be no better than irons by the time you've used them to find the dot anyway.2 points -

I recently bought a TM AUG HC from here, and it's a great gun - scratching that "not another m4" itch. I've found to my (future) cost that AUG mags don't fit in my hard shell M4 pouches (So I'm going to buy some Novritsch 556/762/AUG pouches in the near future) They do fit fine in soft pouches like Brit issue L85 ones though... just a 'beeyatch' to get them back in again, if that's what you prefer to do, rather than using a dump pouch. So that's something to bear in mind. The other obvious alternative would be an AK variant? Plenty available with rails etc, and I haven't seen many AKs at my site. The Cyma Platinums would seem to be a good series to look at, given how even the basic Cyma AK's are well thought of. edit: ho hum, made a bit of a tit of myself there, the only Cyma Platinum AKs I found when having a quick look are those not-quite-right M4-stocked variants. Nahhhhhh.2 points -

I did late Roman (410AD) and War of the Roses (Late 15th) and yeah more armour equals more ouchies honestly, you tend to have a lot more mass which means if you screw up it tends to be all or nothing, I broke 3 ribs in my first ever event and then once I got plate I ended up with a ridiculous list of injuries. So far airsoft has been much kinder on me2 points -

Ding ding ding, we have a winner yeah it was a 1v1 reenactment fight, we were both wearing full-plate armour, I had a poleaxe he had a glaive, our weapons locked pushed against each other somehow, I don't remember it too well (metal stick hitting you in the head has that affect), it struck my cheek cut either side of my eye, cut through my eyelid and smooshed my eye leaving a 90% graze on my eyeball, I almost lost consciousness managed to steady myself but neither of my eyes would open which is bloody scary, went to the hospital they poured disinfectant into my eye which really hurts (to quote the nurse "like having an icicle jammed in your eye") and had to put cream on the eyeball for a while. was kinda cool crying blood occasionally but as a teacher not great but yeah not the most fun2 points -

I'd go the other way. Given the low number that you'll get through while plinking, and the cost of the gun itself, the extra cost per bottle is negligible. And I agree on bios, PLA breaks down in an industrial composter at 60C, not lying on the grass in Scottish weather. The "BIO" label is really just for fooling landowners and wives.2 points -
Well, fair enough and congratulations on producing it. I would caution that the worldwide market for it is a few hundred sites, of which maybe a few dozen would actually replace their current boom-box with it - conditional on aggressive marketing. It's something to do for fun and experience rather than as a profitable product.2 points

Actually worse for the environment too because they break down into microplastics and get into the food chain quicker. Further to the above I have a Lancer M4 and JG G36c and they've both performed well in skirmishes, no issues at all as yet. Both can be picked up for around £120ish if you shop around.2 points -

Just to build on what the lads have said I had a rather pathetic low speed motorbike crash that resulted in 5mths in a wheelchair, several reconstructive surgeries on my Left foot and ankle full cruciate reconstruction of the right knee and 11mths off work AND the orthopod said the two probable outcomes I was looking at where either 85-90% recovery or sub 20% due to the nature of my injures and as he was leaving my bed side he casually threw out “oh by the way this was a one off fix as well , if ANYTHING happens to your ankle you’ll be loosing the leg below the knee !” And then casually walked off to his next patient ! So for the next year-18mths I was equally apprehensive/scared of the potential effect on my life in general if I did injure it again . So yea this whole thing had a hell of an effect on my Airsofting due to just the worry about potential injuries . All I’d say is listen to what others say but ultimately only you can come up with game plan your happy with , and I promise there IS one out there somewhere.😉👍2 points -

At the risk of going against the grain here I'd say that there are plenty decent beginner AEGs for around the £100 mark and absolutely go for it. Anything by CYMA or JG is a safe bet and my Lancer 933 was about £100; my first gun and quite frankly I still love it. Its reliable, decently put together and happily lobs .25s in the woods I skirmish in. Nice and lightweight too and accepts most mags without fuss. The Core Specnas are much of a muchness and probably worth a punt too. I hear lots of put downs regarding Lancer online but I have to say mine has been perfectly good. There again, same with my UAR; very marmite but I've had no bother with that either. I echo above regarding ammo choice, using 25s or 28s is one of the most effective (and cheapest) upgrades you can make. Good luck with your choice. Eezer G2 points -
I ordered a Holy Warrior Sig Sauer Tango6T replica last week from Aliexpress and it arrived this morning. Chucked it on my TM M4 MWS URG-I build and I think it really looks the part. I’m really happy with the build quality and the look of it. The glass is very clear although I’m sure it’s nowhere near the all round quality of the real steel scope. I’m not sure how well it’ll stand up to the punishment of recoil from a real 5.56mm rifle, but it should be good enough to withstand a GBBR. That said, this is really only for display with the odd bit of garden plinking.2 points

GAMBLE and one other reacted to Floperator for a topic
Had a good, if sweaty game yesterday at Reforger. In the first half I went out with the M4/acog and did quite well, getting some good kills and heroic deaths. Did get my hand shot up after calling hit at one point ('Hit! Hit! Fuck off please! Thank you!'), and there were quite a few complaints about non-hit taking, beyond the usual dull roar of complaints at any game, though hit taking and active marshalling seemed to improve towards the end of the day (culprits possibly identified and had a word with?). Saw more equipment failures than usual - probably the weather making people a bit clumsier - I lost the rear sight off my pistol, another players trigger disintegrated, a broken sling for someone else, and some galoot with cat ears broke @GAMBLE's scope cam (any joy with fixing that yet dude?). 2nd half I went out with the P90/seeall sight, and despite finding the mags a bit clumsy and not the hi-caps I'm used to, had a great few games. One particularly good moment was when I'd pitched up in some woodland between a track and the field that we were guarding, squatting in a bundle of nettles with just the top of my head peering out. Had to wait a little while before someone came down that way to flank us, but once they did I managed to take out two separate groups of 4/5 players a few minutes apart. No one expects a guy in a gillie suit with a P90 😉 Going to one more game there next month to get my UKARA sorted, and after that will probably spread my wings a bit and try a few other sites for the next few sessions (maybe some CQB?), though I will definitely be back because I like the site and it's very close by.2 points -

Weight, balance, side picatinny rails that can't be easily removed, realising that it's pretty much just a G36 in a different body with a price premium, the stock comb, the pistol grip and trigger pull. Basically, it wasn't an M4. So yeh...I think that just about covers it. Shame, I loved it based on the photos alone. I'm just glad that I didn't blow a wedge of cash on it (learnt from hard experience with the Proline Beretta ARX-160). But in a classic case of not following my own advice - I just ordered a gun on impulse purely on it's looks. It arrives tomorrow. I'm a fucking idiot.1 point -

I do like using my Kobra on my DE906. It's zeroed in nicely so I can pre-aim and get a one-shot kill at medium distance. It adds something to the feel of the thing. Watching the stream of plastic and walking it in is 'all airsoft and no realism'. I know talking about realism is a bit silly in this context, but we enjoy good quality webbing, camo, boots, and realistic looking guns, so why compromise on the shooting bit, the bit that ought to be the most important? If I can't get the sight zeroed properly though...1 point -

Allan loves wonderous variety. I run everything from zoomy-scoped sniper and DMR, 3x, red dot, reflex, iron sights, tracer, to crudely hacked out foam sights and point-and-spray-pray. Looks me to like a 'defuse the bomb' app, so you could hide parts of the key sequence on bits of paper inside ammo boxes scattered around the site... find the boxes, get the key code, disarm the bomb. Or have a VIP who knows the code and is held prisoner... free the VIP, unlock the secrets, win the game. That sort of thing, I think... The time tracking means the marshals don't have to run their own stopwatches to see which team does it fastest. Quite tidy and a nice extra bit of fluff to the proceedings to lift it above the normal 'get 3 boxes in one place' kind of thing.. though does require a smart phone that might get bashed around a bit1 point -

Just doing some quality-of-life tinkering before next week's game. Found an old ammo tin my dad used for fishing stuff, bit of a clean and spray here and there and it's now my new mag carrier, with space for oodles of mags and bbs. Also made a couple of BB bags out of some soft goggle cases, cable ties and water bottles, they work great for carrying and dispensing BBs in the field.1 point
