I went to the chemist yesterday and asked the lovely assistant if she would kindly show me where the talcum power was. "Certainly sir, walk this way" I thought, if I could walk that way,I wouldn't need the bloody talcum powder!2 points

A mix of stuff I bought at Shift Your RIFTs and items that weren't available/in stock with retailers there. The hicapa was 2nd hand from someone selling for Β£80, but I needed to buy a mag for it as the one it came with wasn't TM and didn't lock back on empty. For the AAP I got the stainless steel hammer set, auto sear and fire pin lock, an ultra lightweight blowback unit, a 50 degree flamingo bucking, a crazy jet barrel and a hadron 300% return spring and short stroke buffer. Already got the h-plate for the build in the AAP and it has been performing okay so far, but it's time to make it mean and hopefully more reliable in the cold! For the hicapa, I bought the nineball magazine rubbers and a crazy jet barrel. Got a spare ML hop rubber and h-plate in my bits box so all that will be an "it'll do" build until I can get the rest of the stuff from hicapa hub. Might do it later this month, but will see. And the 60 degree flamingo is to try in my m700. If I like it, I'll also try one in my MWS.2 points

So just out of interest I asked a lab friend of mine to measure the weight some of the BBs I have, all Vorsk ones. Here's his summary. Weight .43g .4g .32g Mean 0.424 0.404 0.324 SD 0.002 0.004 0.001 RSD 0.5% 0.9% 0.5% Median 0.424 0.403 0.324 The BBs were measured, 10 of each from a bottle, to 4 decimal places. Mean is the commonly called average, SD the standard deviation, RSD is the relative standard deviation around the mean, and median is the middle value of the dataset. The .32s had a max and min difference over the 10 samples of .005g, which is just 1.6%. Pretty good I reckon.1 point

Stick to camo clothing, nylon kit etc. I have no idea what your tastes are but somewhat as was said above, US surplus costs peanuts there but the postage is of course a lot; easy way to save on whatever you fancy (I like woodland camo kit from the early 00s myself). This may not be relevant to the offer you received, but tons of surplus stores in the US are literally owned by some crusty old vet who hates tech, doesn't want to use the internet etc etc so their stores don't even have websites. From what my mates over there say a lot of the bargains require shopping the 1980s way.1 point

Unfortunately mine didnt come with a manual so i have no idea if the sleep mode is an actual thing or if its just a quirk of leaving the mag in the gun for a while. also sample of 1. probably a good idea to wait for a variety of reviews XD1 point -
Playing a bit fast and loose with the use of the word "budget" there, aren't you? They average anywhere between Β£65-Β£80 a pop! Great motors and I've used a few myself but I wouldn't call them a budget option.1 point

yeah just tested. About 4 mags is where it starts having issues. so around 64 clean shots and then it every now and again slows down slightly. Still runs but it just sometimes has to take a moment to recock itself. So treating this as if it were the gas capacity of a magazine it is still perfectly fine for a sidarm with the one downside of being more difficult to top up if you are out on a milsim or something. On another note the gun seems to have some sort of sleep mode. If I leave it with a mag in for a long while it will take half a second after shooting to actually start recocking itself. I only get this occasionally so im not sure what to make of it yet1 point -

Other than being out of my budget, I believe most nods in the us are subject to something called ITAR , which regulates military use items (tech) banned from being exported. But I may search up some camoβs etc π1 point -

I think this is a fairly personal thing, so not sure how much my answer would help but I'd ask for some genuine surplus kit. Desert marpat (because it's really hard to find outside the US!), genuine alice kit (because it's peanuts in the US, like PLCE webbing is peanuts over here), a nice 1911 holster, a proper stetson if coming over from Texas... I could keep going1 point -

Sounds like a quality weekend event. As someone who looks at NAF and sees negative feedback surrounding it relating to the quality of airsoft, thefts, dick-heads firing blanks in the camp, driving quads at night around the site at early hours, 2nd hand area being shrunk to nearly zero and prices being hiked for almost zero benefit, i'd much rather go to this event by the sounds of it.1 point -

not tested that yet but ive fired 3-4 mags through on one charge so far with no signs of slowing down. When I initially stuck it on the charger I only left it for 10 minutes and I got one or two jams where it couldnt quite cock itself but after an hour of charging I havent had a single jam from this charge Once there are spare mags available unless you are using it as a primary in cqb I dont think battery capacity will be an issue1 point -

As above. I'd be surprised if they give a toss about customers who are the other side of the world and they're relying on people thinking it's too much hassle to chase them for refunds. The only way they'll take notice is if they get hit financially1 point -
Suppressor Foam
DJsnipe reacted to Pseudotectonic for a topic
Melamine foam (aka magic erasers) might be a good alternate It has rather high NRC and is also in some brands of acoustic panels With PU foam there are many grades and weights and whatnot and not every type is good for absorbing sound (some are), whereas melamine foam seems to outperform even the acoustic grade PU foams especially towards the higher frequencies, which is what we want Magic erasers are rather cheap and easily available, and it is safe to handle and very easy to cut to shape, just get a pack and cut out some round sections and stack them You can even scrub dishes with it1 point -
Start a dispute anyway, and keep it open until it's resolved fully. It'll more likely get them to sort themselves out - It's what I had to do when I had issues with them!1 point

My personal view is that it doesnβt matter what clowns/party are in charge. They would all ban anything in order to get votes so political affiliation doesnβt matter. All these people want is to line their pockets at the expense of us. Apologies but Iβm so disenfranchised with politics in this country. I canβt see it being better under labour or greens or anyone else for that matter.1 point

The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread
Skullchewer reacted to rj1986 for a topic
I was boot selling for both days for this ( i was the guy with the RE2 lightning hawk for sale) Lots of pink arms and faces on saturday. Lots and lots of people. Sunday was noticeably quieter (considering both days were sold out player wise) - i suspect the ever changing but always pessimistic weather forecast had something to do with that. In the end, apart from a bit of a breeze and the odd spitting shower, it wasn't too bad at all. But myself and a few of the suppliers and boot sellers packed up around the end of lunch. It's a long weekend with early starts for most.1 point -

Suppressor Foam
Barny reacted to Pseudotectonic for a topic
Let's do some maths Let's say we want to completely contain the pressure wave within the can so by the time the BB exits there is zero difference in air pressure inside and outside the can, meaning the ideal air volume in the can plus the volume of the barrel should roughly equal cylinder volume: Vcan + Vbarrel = Vcylinder The typical cylinder volume is what, β 24 mm x 50 mm? or ~22.62 cm3, if this is 3/4 ported it becomes ~17 cm3 If my barrel is a 270 mm barrel, β 6 mm x 270 mm is about 7.63 cm3 (so the ratio is about 2.23 it seems but this is irrelevant) That gives me about say 9.4 cm3 of air that needs to be diffused inside the can Assume we are using a replica of a 556 can with an external size of say β 38 mm x 157 mm, subtracting the body thickness and a layer of butyl tape lining of say 2 mm and fittings etc we have an internal volume of say β 32 mm x 110 mm or thereabout or 88.47 cm3 of total space inside Of course we need to leave a clear corridor for the BB to go though and it cannot be so tight, if it is β 10 mm x 110 mm this is 8.64 cm3 out of the 88.47 cm3 that needs to be kept clear, giving us say 80 cm3 of diffusion zone available But this BB clear corridor should also be included in the Vcan so this β 10 mm x 157 mm or 12.33 cm3 is already bigger than the 9.4 cm3 volume we need to normalise That means, the foam fill material within the 80 cm3 diffusion zone is really just handling impulse pressures And if we sketch out the wavefronts we can see most pressure is probably in the beginning 1/3 portion of the can, accordingly we can use a dense mesh here, and use a more open mesh in the later 2/31 point -

rj1986 reacted to mightyjebus for a topic
so good news and bad news. I replaced a few more parts and managed to fix the ECU. It ran for about 1 mags worth of BB's and died again once I did a bit of rapid semi auto. *EDIT* So I stripped it down again and luckily the motor connector had come away from the motor and once reattached the MP5 is now running fine. I'll give it a run out next weekend to see if it holds up. It's looking like I fixed the ECU.1 point -

3 x Funday Sundays' of battle filled action this June
Shamal reacted to Ace Airsoft War Games for a topic
GAME CANCELLED - Sunday 2nd June!! Hi all, sorry but we have had to make the hard decision to cancel this Sunday 2nd June game day. Unfortunately there are not enough players booked on to enable an enjoyable and practical game day and it would be very unfair on those few that have booked to let it go ahead with the hope of last minute bookings or walk ons on the day. This is very unusual as we regularly get 50+ players at most game days booked well in advance and are pretty sure it's just a holiday season glitch, we look forward to seeing everyone back again on the 16th and 30th June for some more epic battles0 points
