Unfortunately Pat, your experiencing the phenomenon we affectionately know as "SODS LAW", in airsoft it means when it comes to facepro, all shots will hit where the protection ends, usually ears or Adams apple, a particular choker, alternatively you could go minimalist eyepro like I do, glasses or goggles, & you will be immediately blessed with hero status, never to be hit in the face again............. Or at least until the game before a big job interview/wedding/family get together, at which points "SODS LAW" steps up & says "hey buddy, thought you'd got rid of me?" , & you end up looking like you've got the worse case of teenage acne ever, even if you are 47?6 points

If your getting lots of head shots I'd recommend not making your head so much of a target. Or if you've got one of those pesky snipers that like to shoot headshots for internet stardom, find a different site to play at.5 points

Impossible to know. That idea was formed back when we all used NimH batteries with Tamiya connectors. Now we use all sorts of batteries and connectors with less resistance. If your replica is badly shimmed, motor height incorrect or a heavier spring is used, it effects the amount of shots you get. Also using semi auto over auto actually uses more energy per shot. Also temperatures can effect power draw. So 1 Mah per shot is likely a very inaccurate baseline.4 points

A teacher trying to teach good manners, asked her students the following question: 'Michael, if you were on a date having dinner with a nice young lady, how would you tell her that you have to go to the bathroom? 'Michael said: 'Just a minute I have to go pee.' The teacher responded by saying: 'That would be rude and impolite. What about you Sherman, how would you say it?' Sherman said: 'I am sorry, but I really need to go to the bathroom. I'll be right back.' 'That's better, but it's still not very nice to say the word bathroom at the dinner table. And you, little Johnny, can you use your brain for once and show us your good manners?' Johnny said 'I would say: Darling, may I please be excused for a moment? I have to shake hands with a very dear friend of mine, whom I hope to introduce you to after dinner.' The teacher fainted3 points -

I'm not deaf, so i can't say how it affects someone. Here we are( sorry) ranking the problems we perceive that a deaf a person would have in our game and how it affects us and them. Only the deaf person can say really. One of the main issues I have seen is social isolation, get him out playing a game, if he cant hear his hits (that tickled me) shoot him again for example. Speech to text is widely available so he can read the chat going on around him at lunch or whatever. I'm sure he can figure stuff out, its clunky compared to just speaking but perfectly serviceable. Nothing wrong being out of a comfort zone... unless you don't want to be.3 points -
You gotta see it from Shamals point of view, his sis doesn't want her son to go, & God forbid a hair on his head is harmed, Shamal won't hear the last of it, & the guys are just trying to cover all the bases , after all, don't think any of us have ever come across a profoundly deaf player, it's a pretty unique situation.3 points

Written brief etc and someone with him I'd say. You can worry to much too. He's survived to 34 without being able to hear warning shouts etc. Appropriate dress to feel hits, a companion and very importantly, 'we have a deaf player today. He has as much right to enjoy the day as the rest of us, so help him by waving your hand clearly as well as calling hit. If you don't, don't cry to us if you're overshot,' during briefing. You could compile a notebook of obvious phrases, or pics to use and hand them to the marshals. Get everyone to draw a thumb across the throat for 'you're dead' use military hand signals between the two of you. On a similar note; a lass who worked in a local pub was a sign interpreter. She used to teach us to order ale in sign. It taught us quite a vocabulary (think daft real ale names). It was pretty easy too when used for something that you understood and needed to do. It was fun too, pissed blokes miming 'three pints of Old Cripple Cock, please love.' I used to be able to sign most of the alphabet for words that I didn't know. I've forgotten all of it over the last 20 years, but we all could know a bit I think. I expect that there's a few online courses about. Just a few ideas, I expect that some will be well wide of the individual mark, not knowing the chap. Players will forget and get it wrong around him, but they do already with the hearing, and that doesn't stop us. Hope you and his mates can sort something out and enjoy the day together.3 points -
@JinxDuh made a great point, get together some friends for a private game, maybe a smaller site or only part of your usual site, & whoever can sign the best shadow him 100% for the day. Gives him a good taster & you can judge how he'd cope on a larger scale ?3 points

Wh is just the total energy capacity, literally, mAh x Voltage = Wh Let's say there are two batteries, one is 7.4 V and one is 11.1 V, both are 1300 mAh, the 11.1 V one will have more total energy in Wh than the 7.4 V2 points -
Hi and thanks for your input ? Well yeah I guess his deafness is the issue really. If he was hearing there would be no issue. Yes he is a grown man and able to make his own decisions but you have to understand that from a kid he has had to grow and learn in a different world,a silent world, relying on certain people to teach him a special language. He lives and works in a deaf community so pretty much everyone talks the same language and he is in his comfort zone, obviously he does have contact with hearing people who do not sign but it's difficult for him as it is for me to communicate with him. I don't think any of the posts have been patronising and I don't think he would either. There have been some great replies with things I hadn't thought of which was the purpose of the thread. I shall take every one's advice and ideas on board and will speak to my site again and put some of your suggestions forward? Thanks guys ? Regards Good idea. Thanks You are spot on.... Ask him what he needs......see I'm too busy thinking about myself and how I will handle it. Yeah good call.2 points

This is true. My advice is to simply make your head less of a target, or wear a full chainmail suit underneath your eyepro. Personally I use a simple mesh face mask that covers my ear area and a set of Esse military surplus goggles that seem to attract BBs... which works great.2 points

Another very good point, OP's initial post reads like a young man who's vulnerable, & a mum who's understandably protective, hence most of our replies, but if he's managed to get to 34 without being hit by a bus or other heinous accidents, he's doing something right. The point @Pseudotectonic about eyepro fogging etc is also very relevant, most of us struggle if it happens, partially losing a sense, imagine it happening with no hearing too, maybe a good dye mask or one of those fencing style mesh masks are an option. Yeah I know some don't like the mesh kit, but I've been using it for years without an issue, my eyes are fine, everything else is fooked but my eyes are ok ?2 points

There are legitimate concerns with not being able to hear or convey safety-critical information. These can be overcome, but it's hardly patronising to consider and enumerate what adjustment need to be made, and the reasonableness of them (and I think they are reasonable, and it is doable). Perhaps it might be an idea to ask the chap what information he needs, and how he'd prefer to receive it. As you say, he's been dealing with this all his life.2 points

Most airsofters are fucking deaf anyway as if they listen to the saftey brief or listen out for hits ? But I wonder if it's worth looking up a laser tag site near you, I hear the the gear they use now has a shock/ vibration vest that are better than the crap from the old days so when you get "hit" so he can feel it, That way he can experience the same sort of thing we do and he will be a bit more safe and still run around and shoot guns with you and you can use it as a stepping stone/practice to get him to airsoft2 points -

Ahoy and welcome. Just to check, do you want an M4 / AR-15 platform? Nothing wrong with that, most of us have one (or two (or three)), but there are few really bad choices in the current market. AK, G36, MP5, P90, M14, pistol-calibre-carbines, they all work. Airsoft is a heart-over-head hobby, the only real regret is being too sensible.2 points

THE TM MWS thread
Mr Dellski reacted to Wo1f for a topic
As a lot of threads end up with one of us recommending the Tokyo Marui MWS, and i get PM's asking about it, i figured I'd start a thread to keep all of the information in one place. Here i plan on covering a general overview of the gun, as well as upgrade parts, general maintenance and tuning. If anyone else wants to share any information, guides or even gameplay with their MWS, here is the place to do it. With that being said, lets get on with it. I've had my 2 Tm m4 GBBR's for a little over a year now, and they've got through dozens of changes to get them where they are today. Out of the box they are beautifully finished and boast impressive performance. I bought my first one from Zeroone, who price matched it for me. At the time the gun set me back £430 and the magazines £35, but they have risen quite a bit in price in most places. The gun is incredibly well finished and sports a Cerakoted receiver. Before opening the box, i didn't get what the big deal was about Cerakote, but that all changed after using it over time. The finish is VERY resistant to the hard life I've shown it, and is far more scratch resistant than any paint or anodization on any other gun I've owned. The two I have still don't have a scratch on them. At the rear is a standard m4 stock, which does its job with little wobble, but isn't the nicest one I've ever seen. The railed handguard is very solid and nicely finished with all of the correct numbered markings on the rails. From there you have your usual front triangle iron sight which DOES NOT have a sling attachment at the base. The magazines hold 35 BB's and have a Cerakoted shell to keep them from scratching easily. They have very recently started coming with silent fill valves, but are mostly the normal kind that hiss when filling and spray liquid propane when full. Its worth noting that the valve sits at an angle to the baseplate. One modification i would highly recommend to do is the "green gas mod" which involves removing a long zinc tube from inside the magazine. This allows more gas into the magazine and upping your shots per gas fill dramatically, with some people reporting 150+ shots from a single gas charge. As a side note, i have started to just cut the zinc tube about 1 inch from the base instead of removing it entirely. A video showing how to do it: Chronograph Results: using blaster .20 BB's and green gas i got around 298 fps with a deviation of 2FPS. yes, you heard that right, " FPS. This thing is incredibly consistent! Important information: The inner barrel is 250mm on the 10.5 " CQBR and the 14.5" carbine, meaning on the 14.5" outer you can fit a much longer 370mm inner barrel. The Hop up adjustment dial is similar to Tm pistols and can be located inside the upper receiver by locking the bolt back and looking down the magwell. Due to the way the outer barrel is cut, it's not possible to fit an aftermarket rail onto the gun without one of two things. A barrel adapter ring (PTS, ORGA and a couple of others make them and usually cost £10) or A dytac outer barrel, which has a wider lip, as shown below. Dytac on the left First shots: I took it down to the 20m range at the First and only shop and loaded it up with .28 blaster devils. They had multiple targets there, but i focused on the little spinning targets at the back wall. The orange discs must have been no more than 1.5 inches in diameter and i was hitting it virtually every time with the iron sights. So far, very impressed with the accuracy. So much so, I treated it to a new dress! First internal upgrades: After speaking with Dave about the gun, he explained that the gun wouldnt hop really heavy weight BB's with the standard nub. because it was hollow and squished when applying hop pressure. To remedy this he machined me a great little nub out of brass. Isn't it beautiful!? This meant i could now lift much heavier BB's increasing my range and accuracy even further than the already impressive stock performance. Using this new nub and GEOFF .32 bb''s i was able to get the bb's out 60+M with a flat trajectory. They were making a 1.5-2ft grouping on the plastic bales as seen in the video below. I have SOOO much move to cover, including barrel reviews, customs mods and a DMR build, but its 5;30 am and i need to be up in an hour, so we'll continue this tomorrow1 point -

The_Lord_Poncho reacted to Leo Greer for a topic
The FPS itself will change by a margin of maybe 1-1.5% depending on humidity, altitude, and temperature, but by and large the consistency I can achieve is the same. That build was built and chronoed at ~800 feet above sea level, 75 degrees F, 50% humidity. I recently put together a new DMR build shooting 300 FPS on .48g w/ ~1 FPS variance, and tested at ~8,000 above, 20 deg. F, and 75% humidity. I do a rigorous set of stabilization mods designed to create an extremely consistent hop rubber to nozzle seal, and I think that really makes the difference. Basically, I make sure the barrel and hop unit can't move whatsoever, and that the hop unit is pressed solidly to the gearbox. Hop unit springs are the enemy, cork and plastic shims are the best. I'll see if I can try some "varied environment" testing with the same build and report back. I'll make it into a separate thread though!1 point -

Today South Herts Airsoft had their first midweek game and unlike many other sites where they're only in the evening this was a full day. Numbers were very low with only 6 a side but as the site is relatively small this wasn't a problem and the low numbers meant games were more tactical rather than the meat grinder which can happen with greater numbers. Hit taking was excellent and I heard no grumbles or complaints. In fact the only negative part of the day was self inflicted as I sent myself arse over tit running for cover and it was only when the adrenaline wore off I realised I'd landed in a load of stinging nettles All in all I hope this will be the first of many midweek games as I can't always get to games on sundays and I wholeheartedly recommend anyone in the Hertfordshire area give them a try1 point -
Your system draws a lot of current then. I run 7,4v 1450mAh 30c batteries in my M4s and my average BB consumption per game day is about 2000 (say 5/6 fully depleted Lonex Flash Mags). The battery tester I use says that with the above conditions I get my battery from 99/98% charge down to 30ish, now I don't know that the percentage refers to, but all things considered I think my builds are at okay efficiency.. All this in full auto for the most part. Also keep in mind that semi auto fire draws way more than full auto, the current required to get the motor going is much higher than the current needed to keep the motor going once it's already spinning. It's not hard to imagine that thirsty motor + semi spam will deplete an average sized battery in a short time, but 500 shots is definitely a sign that something needs addressed in your gun. p.s. I'm confident I have butchered every electrical term and principle with this comment, sorry, I build houses and survey the land, not an electrician/electrical engineer1 point

HPA is extremely consistent indeed but a well tuned AEG does the same job (people "forget" to mention how much money they spent on it to make it happen though). HPA is easier to maintain and fix it though compared to an AEG because HPA engines don't look like a clock internally. Especially for a beginner who never took apart a gearbox before. Try out as many different platforms as possible and choose what you prefer. This forum is a very small echo chamber and people parrot the same thing over and over again. ☠️1 point -
