Which retailers in the UK accept Just-Cos Cosplayer Insurance?
Galvatron and 6 others reacted to Cannonfodder for a topic
To me the sportsman association defence is also dodgy as fuck as you just pay your money without having to ever attend an airsoft site. To me both these defences are a big middle finger to those who put in the hard work lobbying for the defence we have and potentially could put the hobby at risk.7 points -
And theres the difference between you and I. I do care about people actively undermining the defense that keeps our hobby viable. You apparently don't give a fuck...... And for what its worth in this thread you've pretty much proved that "if I have to explain this, you still won't understand".4 points

For my 5 pence worth, although the current system it could be argued isn’t the best it is something and it’s recognised. When I was reenacting I had all the insurances and memberships but I could only ever buy rifs that corresponded to the time period I was portraying. My quite brutal answer would be if you can’t make time to play frequently then maybe Airsoft isn’t for you.4 points -
Hopefully, none. To my knowledge, Just-Cos isn't a valid defence for a RIF.4 points

This. Just-cos is a load of bullshit made up by a certain shop as a get around to sell rifs to anyone. As for the insurance it offers, anyone who needs it shouldn't have access to rifs as its insurance against being a dumbarse and doing things you shouldn't be doing.3 points -
Can we please stop trying to find ways to bypass (the not exactly onerous to acquire) defense we have.... please and thank you.3 points

I watched the original Alien film when I was about 4 or 5. My dad said I absolutely loved it. No nightmares at all. Then a few years later Spitting Image did a take off with Maggie Thatcher: Now that freaked the absolute shit out of me for years apparently - had to check under the bed, no cuddly toys around, just in case. That was nightmare fuel.3 points -

My dad kept getting this one particular knob head phone him up and try to scam him. I was there one day when the pillock rang so i did a jason bourne on him and asked him for his call in ID. when he got confused, i told him that he had contacted a restricted Ministry Of Defence number and i needed his name, the company name and not to hang up as a representative of the MOD would be there to arrest him and his supervisor for breach of the official secrets act. I said it with such authority that the guy hung up and no one ever phoned back. Was worth it just to see my dad crying on the floor with laughter....3 points -

Don't know about any list of retailers but a quick google produced this... https://www.just-cos.co.uk/ This is an airsoft forum & we occasionally have non airsoft questions like this that often turn sour in the replies. Not sure if you would be required to buy insurance for your hobby but it's certainly worth while spending a little time at an airsoft site to attain an UKARA registration (not a permit or a license) which will at least provide you with a 'defence' for having an imitation firearm, in my short time as an airsofter it's become apparent that some people (airsofter, cosplayers, reenactors) have fallen foul of UK law and provided the media with a very easy story (true or ficticious) which casts a very big shadow over our hobby. What ever you decide to do please be aware of cosplay rules regarding firearms at events, enjoy yourself & be safe. I'll repeat myself... it's certainly worth while spending a little time at an airsoft site to attain an UKARA registration, you'll probably find out you enjoy the experience, most of us dress up as a character when playing, some as milsim & some as ballerina's with pew pew's. You could appear at almost any site you'll have a mix of giggles & interest in equal measure in your direction but we all enjoy our day & you might become the first T-Rex badass at the site you chose to attend.2 points -
Respectfully, you're asking for a way around the UKARA policy - Which quite frankly is the only thing stopping every tw*t from waltzing into an airsoft retailer, buying a "well sick pistol bruv" and using said pistol for ill intents. Next thing you know, headlines read "AIRSOFT IS BAD, VERY BAD!" and the public demand it be banned forever because it's very scary and people have guns and do crime. My example is exaggerated, obviously, but given how close airsoft has came numerous times to being shut down fully in the UK you have to realize why people are giving you this answer. But, to answer your initial question to keep it "on topic" I doubt there are more than 5 retailers willing to risk their livelihood for the JustCos policy and I would be sceptical of any retailers that do accept it.2 points

So after a fairly long hiatus due to having more kids (Clearly can’t keep it in my pants). I finally have the time and more importantly money to get back into the hobby. All I need to do now is restock all my stuff. if I don’t tell the missus how much it was she won’t mind haha 😂 But I’m a few years older definitely not wiser and can’t wait to get started again.2 points -

JinxDuh, hats off to the marathon of efforts you've embarked upon for this cause. In a twist of fate, my inbox turned treasure chest with a couple of direct messages, leading me to unearth a few hidden retailer gems. Thus, the coveted rifle is on its way, sidestepping the need for any two-tone disguise. A hearty salute to you and the fellow enthusiasts whose passion, effort, and, let's face it, endearing nerdiness keep the wheels of this hobby spinning. You nerds are the unsung heroes of this saga.1 point

JinxDuh your thoughts and concerns about what may or may not happen keep to yourself, if you have a list of the 5 retailers that would be helpful to the topic otherwise everything else you add to this, is not relevant.1 point

On topic there is likely to only be one company that would accept JustCos as a defence. It also just so happens to be a company that references its partnership with a Comicon whose cosplay rules explicitly ban RIFs. They will also charge you £20 for the privilege of making a false declaration Look up a retailer, attempt to buy a RIF and see what defences are asked for. If you really do want to use whichever non UKARA defence you can manage then a very minor amount of effort would find you someone who is willing to sell a RIF without UKARA but with you claiming that your intent is to play airsoft on insured sites - which is what the law actually requires1 point

This! UKARA was created in order to demonstrate that the industry had a means of ensuring that RIFs were only being sold to people who intended to use them for airsoft. It may be imperfect, but it was a key element in ensuring that we would not have to play with brightly coloured IFs. Salty little bugger, aren't you?1 point -

Given that the requirement is to "take part in three games at the same UKARA registered game site over a minimum of two months, e.g. the third game being 56 days or more after the first." I am slightly baffled as to how you are unable to play frequently enough.1 point -

Went to a game today with 2 replicas, left with 3... Saw this beautiful LCT VSS on the preowned wall and fell in love with it instantly. Doesn't shoot as perfectly as I'd like, definitely needs some work with the hop up but wow it's amazing to hold. First time owning an LCT, reviews of the internals has me a little worried but it can't be any worse than my G36 😳1 point -

I've literally just printed and made one of these. I've superglued a bit of 600grit to the "sear" that goes at the top of the bolt to help it as it was a bit tricky to arm (made with creality oem petg). havent had my caps delivered yet, i'm hoping this week to get some tryouts with it. For £12 and however long it took to print, its not a bad set up.1 point -
I'm not sure if this 100% fitted your criteria but I picked up From this guy https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/airsoft-micro-grenade-impact-cap-gun-ring-sound-grenade-meteorite-meteor-lite-e-fulcrumairsoft He sells complete ones on ebay. My local was happy for me to field it as it's not nearly as loud is a .209 primer bfg. Super small, fits in a 40mm pouch. Only downside is if it gets wet they don't trigger For the price it might be worth a try1 point

Just tested the RPM of the test Brushless motor, 11.1v Turnigy 15-25C (Battery around 85% full charge) Fast = 34K Slow = 30K Only 12% difference give or take with a 11.1v 7.4v Turnigy 15-25C (Battery around 85% full charge) Fast = 20.5K Slow = 19K Hardly any difference. Full stats coming Monday fingers crossed. I also got some Perun's in stock so I'll be able to run some full tests with one of those.1 point

I ordered the torch back on the 19th of Jan and it was at the door by the 25th of Jan, so around six days give or take. Some items have crazy delivery estimates to cover their own arses apparently (as the holy warrior EXPS3 had a delivery estimate of the 30th of april and just randomly showed up unannounced two days ago lol) so I'd give it a pretty good chance of you getting it in time.1 point -

The law on the sale of RIFs places responsibility on the seller It’s not illegal to sell/buy RIFs - and there is not a definition in the law to what governs any membership etc to justify a sale A seller only needs to reasonably be confident that the buyer of a RIF intends to play airsoft skirmishing on an insured site. The UKARA scheme is intended to provide documentation to back up sellers that the buyer is an airsoft skirmisher Just sell as a bundle. If selling on a forum such as this just make sure the buyers posting history does not imply they are a schoolchild / chav gangsta If selling via other social media look at their photos etc Do not go into some convoluted route such as selling a few batches of assorted parts in seperate transactions to one buyer - if someone added one and one together then they could come up with deliberate evasion of the law Avoid overthinking, sell on an airsoft site such as the classifieds here and just ask the buyer to acknowledge they are an airsofter - or check their profile to see that they appear to be a regular user of an airsoft forum and it’s reasonable that their intent is to play1 point
