The physics behind it is fairly simple, Heavier BB's conserve their energy better. Assume you have a Mini cooper going 100mph and a Truck going 60 down an infinite straight road, If you just let both of them go - no accel no braking - the mini stops LONG before the Truck, even in spite of the speed advantage, because the Truck is way heavier. Same principle for BBs, Light 'mini' BB may be faster at first, but that Heavy 'Truck' BB is still gonna be at a solid 30-20mph by the time that mini stops. (This is an Analogy, i dont actually know how accurate my waffle about Trucks and Minis is here)3 points
-
The time to target for the same energy is marginally slower at first and by the time you can notice a difference the heavier bb is quicker. This is the main reason they travel further, higher average speed. This is because of physics. From the airsoft trajectory project.3 points

You may be joking, but it’s not very far from the potential of games like this There’s a card game that’s been worked on for a while by Paintball magazine, which has been in the works for a while ….. these can be played in many ways such as the dedicated PBM team vs team card game, as Top trumps etc Always good to see people coming up with ideas to build upon our hobbies https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid02bPaoBgXqxKL8FkyPTgDTFXeEnexKsb6zu58G8b3MVZxGt9uR9kYw599ekYQNw2xwl&id=1000636733154731 point

I concur .28 seems to be sweet spot for most pews up to 30 to 40 meters, and good £ per shot source: reddit https://redd.it/171ugdc1 point -
Whilst the 101 is fine for electronics and portable soldering, for cabling and power connectors something with a bigger heat reservoir works better. Expensive too, same for Hakko. Only you will know you needs.1 point

I have put the gearbox back together and test fired it and all seems to work nicely. I have the ak2m4 motor 22tpa and 13:1 gears, fettled the box and set up the Perun hybrid. Very easy and intuitive once you understand the speed you need to flip auto and single fire back and forth. I had no issues with the Perun, all worked as it should, I kept the manual safety so that the selector plate has some spring tension on it still ( the Perun removes the selector lever and therefore the plate spring ) I had previously fettled the selector plate etc to get smooth fire mode selection. I have the std spring in at the moment, 11.1v lipo and the std setting for the Perun has braking on at 3 iirc, so I took it to zero, added 3 round burst on auto and played with the pre cocking. As it turns out, with no braking and no pre cocking, 3 round burst pre cocks it nicely to the rear. In single fire I needed pre cocking to 3 and braking off. pre cocking 4 gave me a 2 round burst, I'm trying not to use braking as I can feel the motor heating even with these settings and I am thinking a 7.4v lipo might be a better option as the rof sounds more than I'm after. I was thinking the motor might be slower than it is ( but it's not), so lower voltage seems like a good shout. Maybe I should have gone with the 28TPA... Hurry up with the brushless AK. I have still to live fire the gun, check feeding and probably have to fiddle with the settings once there's a bit of back pressure and measure the fps. I intend to swap out the the spring with others that I have and see how they relate. Then it's barrel and hop time. I have put the box together with a minimum of lube, the Perun uses optical sensors which I don't want greasy and it looks like a greasy sector gear would contaminate the sensors. I will strip it down after using it a while to see how the parts are working together. The pinion to bevel alignment looks good with grease on the right bits of the bevel. Many shims aren't flat when they are made (they re stamped and end up a bit curved) so all the shims I used i flattened on a block so they sit flat, I'll check those in due course. The wiring goes to the rear now and I have a solid stock to replace the sliding one that came with the gun. A few of the fettling mods, Shimmed the motor tower to remove play into the gearbox. Brass tube Shimmed the hop unit to remove play into the gearbox. Brass tube ( a ring really) Reprofiled the selector plate and rounded the grub screw on the right side of the selector as it was rubbing on the handgrip. Added xt30 connectors instead of the Deans. Used a thinner wire tappet plate spring, for ak2m4, the original was verrry stiff. The Perun wiring is 18AWG which I may well change if I feel the need. I have some 14,15 and 16 Teflon cable so i can choose. There are pads on the Perun to add cables for a tracer should I feel the need. I'd add a couple of LEDs to the hop unit if I did that. Already have some in the parts box. I modded the feed tube to my g36 with an )O ring to stop the bbs dropping out, I may do this to the MP5, ill see what the timings are like but its not high on the list. I've got some buckings to try and the silencer to fiddle with once I am firing bbs.1 point

With my Brother-in-Law and his wife coming over from Oz this weekend, he wanted to go shooting, however, my dive bottle is empty and out of test date, so no air rifles, so airsoft it is, which happens to mean needing a third pew. Not having much of a budget due to double birthday party for my girls, meant going cheap and cheerful, so checking my local RFD website and checking them out on YT for reviews etc to try to find best "bang for buck", I nipped into the shop this morning and picked up a Specna Arms SA-F02 and red dot optic. Have to say, for only £120, it appears to be punching above it's price point, with rotary hop and tight bore barrel (looks brass?), finish looks good and going by the various reviews, should be better out of the box than my G&G SM16 Raider, which I had to change the hop rubber and barrel for it to shoot OK. already fitted the optic and lense protector, so all I need to do now, is set the hop, which depending on B-i-L's schedule, will either be at our local airsoft site or at my woods, along with my lad. If my younger daughter wants to take up airsoft, then at least we've got a pew available for her or even use as a base for a custom build.1 point

So after lets just call it at least a decade away I finally feel that I'm back, so I thought it'd be interesting to share my journey as attempt to get my head around the changes in tech & re-develop my loadout to match my play style which hasn't changed in the meantime. First off, I'd forgotten just how much I'd missed this both mentally and physically. I've been laid up in and out of hospital the last few years - to the extent that I've gone from superfit to completely broken. I finally found something which I could actually do without landing me back in A&E last October & thanks to a push from my wife - I tried out a game at my local airsoft site. I sold up pretty much everything (it was around the time of the in-fighting over setting up UKARA - alongside some horrible personal issues that was the final straw). So I had my old ICS552, my custom WA S&W 1911, my 8mm Redhawk & a battered CYMA M3 rip off. Despite the WA utterly failing in the cold weather, the SIG shedding parts & developing the fire selection switch developing the attitude of a teenager I had a whale of a time. Finally picked up my PASS & the intervening time let me try out the modern "toys" and get my head around what I enjoyed. I've never been a kit nerd when it comes to fiddling/upgrading or to achieving a particular loadout "style". Instead I've always ended up picking out what for me is the "best of breed" in terms of what does what I need it to, hence you could politely describe my look as that of a scruffy mercenary - as opposed to that of someone as likely to sell you a big issue as shoot you. I did get an ego boost from being described as a "Ukrainian nutter" though So in terms of clothing/webbing I just go with what is comfy. At the moment its a pair of yard boots (closest thing to trainers in terms of comfort), an old pair of combats, norge, appropriate layers & a russian OMON style vest. Its light, room for 3 spare M4 style mags, shotgun shells, 2 blank firing grenades & some high energy shack items. I then go with a belt running two bianchi holsters & spare revolver shells/pistol mags. Its nice to be able to dump the belt at the safe zone or go down to one sidearm without having to reconfigure everything. So my general "normal" loadout now is as follows ... SA-15 Edge - Batteries have moved on! Being able to fit a single battery in the stock which is enough capacity for a full day's play is a revelation. Battery capacity was always a factor in the past - so its great to be able to pick something I love the feel of without worrying about having to change/carry a spare. Aside from the tight inner barrel I didn't think there was much point in going for anything gucci. My AEG has always been a tool first. Hops have come on - I remember the old TM hop with its tendancy to unwind randomly (I ran both an M4 & SR16 for a while) but this is easy to set how I want it - and it stays that way. I also hated M4 mags - partially a look & feel, partially having to spend so much time keeping them working & feeding. Very much a fan of the new S-Mag style, plus no feed issues with either hi or mid caps. 3 spare mags in the OMON vest. Shotgun - a reliable backup and sometimes main for CQB/thicker woodland. I love tri-barrel shotguns. I sold my modded M3 when I quit - so I picked up a BO Fabarms one to replace the battered CMYA one. Its similar size & weight but definitely has more poke & consistency just like my old TM but at way less than half the price. Will run as a spare as looking to get hold of a Secutor one as its even smaller & looks sexier (sorry). I figure it'll be even easier to carry slung on my back but for the moment, for the money I'm liking this a lot. Spare shells in the sling which goes over my vest so she sits on my back. If I'm ditching the AEG then even more shells in the vest on the shell loops - saves having to take time out reloading in the safe zone TTI JW 4 - GBB's are so much improved. And I say that as someone who loved them. This has now replaced my beloved WA 1911 and I can't believe I've gone back to a double stack 2011. I tried lots but when I picked her up something clicked. The hop/takedown are quick, mags suffer less cooldown and in terms of range once I got the hop set - well she's perfect for pulling out and "going light" with a BFG or two. Very much feels like one of the old WA Inifinities - after I'd spent a fortune on metal gubbins, internals etc. but better - out of the box FFS! Pair of spare mags in an old mil-tec twin mag pouch on the belt (will be replacing soon as its knackered), gun sits in a Bianchi M84 on the belt. Lovely - you can keep your new fangled plastic holster things Marushin 8MM Redhawk - yes she's an antique but with a thorough clean and lube she's fine. Fill valve needs a strip and bit of plumber's tape every few months but in winter - on red - she's up to her old tricks. There is something so pure about considered shots with a 6 shot shell loader ... it honestly feels amazing. Pair of .44 magnum speedloaders on belt, she sits in a Bianchi Cyclone holster. When she gives up the ghost .... who knows. Might have to look at a den wesson if only to be able to keep my love of using nothing but a revolver & speedloaders in game occasionally Oh, and if anyone knows a source of 8mm BB's that's be great, although I'm down to my last 700 they should last a few years as I tend to only get through a dozen every skirmish. So that's where I'm at. It kinda feels comfy - like a modern upgrade of the kit "style" I know and love. When the weather warms up a bit I'll start venturing further afield - heard great things about the "x" site in Mold. Much prefer sneaky, muddy bog snorkelling/woodland play rather than speedball - although in building CQB does lead to me making disturbing sounds as I play. Airsoft is definitely more popular. the kit better, the choice in the UK so much wider (anyone else remember the says of WGC shop/Den trinity importing *everything*). People messing around with Western Arms kit - endlessly upgrading/fixing seems to have been replaced by a different bunch of people endlessly upgrading/fixing HPA guns - but I'm really enjoying getting back into this1 point -

I have one or two spare mags that get dumped into an ikea type storage box & was looking on fleabay last week thinking I could buy some ammo boxes to store them all a bit better. Long story short, I dragged them all out to see how many spare mags I had & which types, took a piccie to post on here and realised that I don't need any ammo boxes... I have webbing hanging all over my mancave with ready made pouches. only got around 6 spares without a home now (mainly a couple of AK & some Galil mags). 420490325_912386320124823_669653446712038612_n.mp41 point -
thats.. a lot of mags i have most of my mags in an old ammo crate. i bought the crate from an army surplus stall at my (at the time) local market before lockdowns, stripped off all the old flaking brown paint and resprayed it with some grey primer and army green rattle cans from halfords (which has picked up quite a few scars from other ammo boxes being stacked on top of it) , then my father and i made and painted a pair of wooden divider trays. i swap the mags depending on which backup guns i take to a game day and load the entire crate in the boot of my car.1 point

I'll play devils advocate & state this is my local haunt & go to site, visited other sites in Kent which have their own plus & minuses, but enjoy Apoc on a regular basis which keeps me coming back & being part of their regular Milsim series. As stated site is huge, they only use Zone 1 for Sundays - Zone 2 is opened for Milsim events, good that the site owners have a vision to continually reinvest & develop the site, also for us regular Milsimmers who attend the site there's been some great FOB development as well. Numbers have regularly been +100 for some time, a quieter day is more around the 50-60 mark, was there recently & were 200+ in attendance UKASA pitch not as much now Shame about the comments regarding Martin - He can be quite a marmite chap & I get it, that being said I like the guy & always got on with him. Marshals are good guys & generally if something is bought to their attention they deal with that on a case by case scenario. Equally us Skirmishers / Players are often a unique breed, maybe Martin has succumbed to that & adapted 😁 Toilets I agree but I generally like to clear out prior to an event to not have to succumb, however that being said bucket-flush over portaloo any day for me!! Site is never going to be for everyone, hence Kent having a decent selection if Apoc isn't for you.1 point -
