  1. Airsoft gear seems like the new and best hedge against inflation... at least that's what I may start telling my gf...

  3. Well last weekend was the boy's last gameday in the UK, so we went to AWA. He was in his usual Afghanistan deployment outfit but with a twist..... A socking great Japanese flag as a cape. Which looked like a suitably sized target for airsoft purposes. They've upgraded the bunker with barricades which make it even better. We had a friend with us too so he had my Specna and I alternated between the L85 and the Honey Badger which is currently sporting a massive 3-9 zoom sniper scope as a joke. Which turned out to be a good move. Both pews were working bang on, allowing me to rack up a record number of kills. First game was one where the winning team was the one who's coloured tin was on the pole outside a kill house at the end. My usual banzai attitude to these games kicked in so it was rushing the house repeatedly getting shot, but also getting a tidy pistol kill against a riot shield when I left the L85 behind for more speed and COD style sliding. Riot shield guy got his revenge later with the Touching Cloth game as he also had an RPG.... Which he unleashed on me when I rushed the bunker, and shot me from about 4m away. Fair enough - no MED was specified at the safety brief. One of the better games of the day was where the attacking team had to storm 2 houses to capture two sets of tins then get them into the third as the defenders retreat forming a stronger and stronger defense. Drils and skills kicked in and muggings here went in a bit of a rampage clearing the first house through the windows whilst other team members suppressed the defenders. Both inside and surrounding. Some poor sod got a couple of shots to the throat whilst one window was cleared giving a mixture of both guilt and hilarity. Final game of zombies was a blast too as us 5 zombies were a lot closer to the humans than they thought. Humans had to start in a kill house and leg it for cover, not realising that we were hiding just round the corner. Needless to say the dozen or so people running out of the main door were brutally turned to zombies before they even realised. Somewhat annoyed that the days there now finish at 15:30, but the day was pretty epic so will forgive them for now. Off to Spec Ops tomorrow with the boy's Specna (to test my repairs rrom this afternoon), the L85, Honey Badger and SVU. The latter of which I haven't used for ages because of having too much fun with the others. Fun times.....fun times.

    BB weights...

Heavier BB’s can increase the dwell time of the BB in the barrel and make the RIF more efficient and capable of developing more power. For example, if I gave you a ping-pong ball and asked you to throw it as far as you can, and then gave you a tennis ball and asked you to do the same the tennis ball would go further even though your strength hasn’t changed. This is why good sites chrono based on joules of the ammo you’re using, not 0.2’s for FPS.

  8. Probably not. Most pistols in Airsoft are gas powered. Most are GBB (Gas Blow Back) and some are Non-Blow back (NBB). There are some that are AEP but are, from what i've seen, shunned in terms of performance versus the prior mentioned methods. Also, as @Shamal said, prepare your wallet. I said i'd never buy anything other than needed to play and now i'm at nine guns with overhead to expand. Send help.

  14. @guyus10 - that exact battery came with my son's Cyma G36. I don't know if you've tried it out yet, in our case the battery doesn't last very long at all (think 30 mins or so). It may just be a duff, we've never actually used it on the field, only for test firing at home. Both been using LiPos from day one. If yours is okay, then aside from the decent suggestions above my vote is for the HTRC C240 Duo. Around £50 and can charge 2 batteries simultaneously. If you want to upgrade to LiPos instead of your NiMh then https://www.vapextech.co.uk have proven to be cheap and reliable. No affiliation but I've used them and have no complaints.

  17. Just a throwaway spin on the name & weave, and perhaps an old joke a few years past it’s best before date (MOLLE needs to be weaved, but weavers not so much)

  19. Did that come with a CYMA or similar? I regretted every penny that I sunk into NiMh. I mean, it works, but it's old tech, and lithium based batteries deliver higher current, even if the voltage is nominally lower. If you're not sure that you'll stick with airsoft, I'd suggest using the basic charger that came with it - while carefully monitoring the battery to check that it's not overheating while charging. If you're going to drop money, I'd recommend that it be on lithium (Li-Po, Li-Fe or even Li-Ion) plus a decent charger like a SkyRC S65 (other options are available). B6 chargers like the one suggests also work (I have one) but again: they're older tech.

  27. Even then, the "seized" gun is a MyMateDaveCustomAirsoftUpgrade at Tier 3 which adds an additional £440 to the price of the AEG (holy fuck I would have done it for a crate of beer) for a gearbox overhaul, compression set overhaul, AOE correction, new inner barrel, bucking & nub and that's NOT including a MOSFET. He wants £400 for a gun that doesn't work after paying all that money for upgrades and paying £350 for the AEG itself. The parts list is also clearly listed on the site so he really didn't try his hardest there. But remember "THIS IS A ABSOLUTE BARGAIN … all this gear has seen only 5/6 games in its life and was all purchased from new". Don't miss out lads but why the fuck is some of the gear still dirty if you're trying to sell it?! I'd probably give him less than £200 for the LCT AK105 because it's likely scuffed to fuck and needs repair/new parts that actually make it work rather than seize.

  28. So that's a grand for 2 fucked guns, a pistol and a load of generic unbranded kit. Definitely a dreamer

  29. Maybe the for sale price is so high for them to justify the amount of raffle tickets. But overall seems dodgy. Could just be the price that's 'fully upgraded'.

  30. According to the raffle site if the seller doesn't deliver you get 75% of the money from ticket sales. Still dodgy as a £9 note though

  37. If in doubt, take it. I once played at a site in the Midlands and we all had a tag (a price of hard plastic with a number written on it, attached to a string) around our necks that symbolised a "life" and the enemy team had to kill you and take it from you before your 2 minute bleed out. Which ever team at the end of the match with the most lives left won. I came out of respawn, started running and got hit instantly, centre mass. I stood bewildered, wondering where the shot come from. 2 mins pass, no enemy comes to take my tag, so I take the 5 steps back to respawn and come out again. I slowly start creeping cautiously forward and can't see or hear anyone. I start jogging....I hear the slap of a round on my plate carrier again. I called hit, look around for who shot me, wait 2 mins, bleed out and go 10 steps back to respawn. I decide I'm running full pelt out of redpawn to try and avoid this mystery sniper. I run out of the respawn, 2 steps, slap. Centre mass AGAIN. At this point I'm getting a bit annoyed at being spawn camped. I respawn and creep slowly forward. Because I'm looking for a hidden sniper, I don't look where I'm going and I stumble slightly. I look down to see my tag fly up on the chain, then slam down....onto my plate carrier....making the same bloody sound as a bb hitting my chest plate! The movement of me running was making the tag jump up and down, slapping on my plate carrier. I'd been calling a hit for no reason. Needless to say, the Marshall watching was quite amused! He did however commend my honesty about hit taking!

  38. The OP didn't mention if he usually does woodland or CQB but here's my thoughts on GBBR's. I have a few: GHK SIG 552, GHK AKMS, TM AKX, VFC M4A1, VFC MP5SD, AGM M4, WE PDW, WE SCAR L, WE M4 CQB, Marayama ACP9K G Pro, TM MP7 x 2, KWA Scorpion, KWA Mac11, TM Siaga 12K and a Beretta SMG from 1987 which is more of a wallhanger. I did have a TM MWS but sold it a while back when I fell out with GBBR's but now think I need another or the DE clone. I've also got a couple of the GBBR 10/22's but I'll discount them from this waffle as they are set up for sniping. I don't use GBBR's at woodland sites during walk on days simply because I'm outgunned or more accurately out ammo'd. I tend to use my TM recoils, KWA T10 or GBLS on those days and get a similar level or recoil to keep me happy. When I use GBBR's it's mostly CQB sites and I don't run anything over .28 tracers as there doesn't seem to be a need. If I need more range the I just get a bit closer. I tend to carry at a minimum 6 mags when using GBBR's as anything less means I'm half fighting and half reloading after running away. I also carry at least one pistol speed loader and a fake grenade that is actually a gas can so I can top up my mags if needed. I've fired quite a few RS rifles over the years and I'd say the recoil on a GBBR is similar to a 22 LR round. Some GBBR's do a better job of increasing the realism, for instance, the TM MP7 has the bolt smashing into the rear, right next to your ear and this increases your perception of the noise from firing but to everyone else it just sounds like a GBBR. Firing hot can be an issue and I've found that using the Vorsk gas either number 6 on hot days or number 8 on colder days gets me through the chrono without issues. By using the different numbers I don't need to worry about fitting Npas's although in the WE GBBR's and 10/22's I've fitted Npas's. Looking at reliability, the TM GBBR's all work perfectly if kept stock and you want to use up to .28's. If you decide to go for heavier ammo then you go into the modding world and it can go either way until you hit the right combination. What works for some people doesn't always work for others. My GHK's both work very well stock and I'd put them as the same reliability as my TM's. Some people have had issues but my only issue has been with the GHK mag base plate falling off and loosing a spring and follower which was $8 to replace but still a pain in the arse. My VFC M4 again works all the time and it's a Gen1 version and I bought a bunch of spares, ready for it to collapse in a heap but I haven't needed to use any of the spares yet. The MP5SD took a bit of work and aftermarket parts to get it firing consistantly but now it's a steam train. I've slated WE GBBR's before and all mine are Gen 1 closed bolt version and work ok'ish in good weather but the Mags are a terrible design. It's a clam shell design with the worlds biggest square o ring that you will need to eventually fill with silicon and wait 24 hours to see if it still leaks. I wouldn't recommend WE as a first GBBR simply because you could come away with negative feeling about GBBR's at the end of it. My KWA scorpion is awesome and the MAC 11 will either work fantastically or vent all the gas depending on how it feel that day. I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned maintenance but GBBR's require cleaning now and again to stop the working parts getting gummed up from dust, twigs, leaves, bits of chopped BB's etc. It's good practise to wipe the bolt and upper recess where the bolt travels down and re-lubricate along with cleaning the barrel and hop up chamber at least every couple of games. Just like the RS versions, grease attracts dust etc which can effect the function of a GBBR. I was going to mention that the Marayama ACP9 G, the MPX and the up and coming ACP9 are all excellent little SMG's with the Marayama taking 50 round glock mags but you will probably end up buying a MWS
