I actually think they should double the minimum age. No under 25's, at least a three day induction course, six months of banks statements and a permission slip signed by your wife/partner. If you're not married/living with your partner, you can't play. Save the space for those of us who have a legitimate reason to leave the house at 6am on a weekend.

The consideration is the site's duty of care to its customers and staff - insurance is to cover them when things go wrong with that. Duties of care tend to be implicit, and only get clarified when things go badly wrong (Vowles versus the WRU being a crucial case). I've frequently opined that sites should stop wasting their time with those ridiculous and unenforceable waivers that they make us sign, and use the paper to list what they think that their, and our, duties of care are. They could also try to require a minimum amount of health or mobility. But most conditions that come with age can also effect younger people with illnesses or disabilities. In either case, age or disability are protected characteristics under the Equalities Act 2010, which requires service providers to make reasonable adjustments to accommodate those conditions, rather than prohibiting people with them from attending. The definition of "reasonable" is wonderfully vague. Just for one example, would it be reasonable to prohibit hearing impaired players because they can't hear critical safety instructions (including man down, cease fire, and fire alarms)? Or would the adjustment be ensuring that a deaf player is always accompanied by a hearing helper? Even if that means dedicating a marshal to it? That's a big can of very squirmy worms right there.

  9. The site should have been all over that. Nothing turns a day toxic faster than some bangstick screeching "CHEETAR!", or pissing and moaning loudly, because it's a very audible signal that the site is weakly run, and not enforcing its own rules. Does my head in, the amount of stuff that's said at briefings, then ignored on the field. Don't waste everyone's time declaring that "Cheat calling is as bad as cheating" if you're not going to actually treat it as such. Non-dicks don't need to be lectured, and dicks aren't listening anyway. Less talk, more do.

  10. The only guns I’ve had issues with are the ones that have been opened up and touched by β€˜techs’. It could be a coincidence but me and my brother both bought our rifles on the same day about 5 years ago. My ASG M4 has never given me a problem ever. His G&G Mk18 was in and out to the local tech after it was β€˜serviced’. Both I would consider to be reputable brands that aren’t known to have inherent issues. So would I give a brand new, or even error-free gun to a tech just to service? Nope and I’d probably advise others against it too.

  11. Says who? Sure the shimming may not be perfect but that won't adversely affect the operation for years. The air seal may not be perfect so you may loose 10fps or so. AOE is not so critical in a standard RPS AEG. I think you've been watching too many scary videos πŸ˜‰ We've given our advice. Of course you can do whatever you want 😁

  12. the reason it tends to not be recommended is because in a world where the only entry requirement to be an "airsoft tech" is to convince people to pay you for your work there's often not much guarantee that sending a gun off to be worked on will necessarily result in that gun actually being any better or frankly even as good as it was to begin with. the workers who put these things together might only be doing it for 3 pennies and half a button per day but they do it day-in-day out and will be pretty proficient at at least doing it repeatably.

  16. Get some camo cream. I bought some for when I fully ghillie up as it lets me break up the solid skin-tones while also allowing me to not wear anything on my lower face and steam up my prescription insers, as when I wear lower face, even with my mesh glasses, the inserts always steam up. However, that being said, I'm enjoying specifically not ghillie-ing up and still going invisible. Good practice that I've had people moan at me a lot with the classic "I hit you loads call your hits!!" when they laced up a nearby bush really well, but not a single BB has hit me. As a BASR user, I am painfully familiar with the effects of leaves and twigs on the trajectory of a BB. However, not everyone is as familiar with this and just assume that because they fired a whole high-cap into the bush that one of them would punch through. Totally get that though, angry people throwing tantrums can ruin a day for a lot of people.

  17. Yep, change the stock parts on the off chance that they would have failed at some point within the next three years....sell the gun two months later! Only then are you a proper airsofter.

  19. Totally get you on this, but my logic says if its open for a service, and warranty voided, why not upgrade it at the same time? But then I only have 1 'upgraded' gun and that was a pointless waste of time Tell a lie, I have fiddled around with two pistols so you could say they are upgraded, but I done those myself and neither are in total working order so likely not haha They quickly become triggers broom though dont they. Like the sales posts with "everything upgraded" its not the same gun then is it? its a frankengun.

  21. The reason I wouldnt is a warranty issue. I can use a brand new gun for a while safe in the knowledge that a warranty will still cover me IF it does go wrong. The moment a tech opens it up the warranty is lost and if the tech is just giving it a service an a stock part fails then your screwed. I would rather use it until it does go wrong or I feel it needs some upgrades then send it off. But each to their own.

Age is (kinda) just a number, it's a cliche but it can definitely be true. Being young often helps but is no guarantee of good health. So really depends how the individual feels. Although saying that and perhaps this is slightly dark but I can just imagine someone having a heart attack and there's a neurotic little twerp screaming "take your hits!" at them.

Oldest member of our group is in his 60's . For myself, once my normal style of play starts becoming an effort i'll just snipe more. Sitting alone in a bush not moving and occasionally screaming insults at some young'un not taking hits sounds ideal for a grumpy old git ! Maybe there should be a minimum age requirement for snipers , about 55 sounds right πŸ˜‰ 🀣

  29. I'm mid 50's, still playing football three times a week with a mix of ages. After gaps due to injury or Covid lockdowns I've come back to games struggling for fitness (and breath), wanting to try out that "walking football" malarkey (I hasten to add that extreme response wasn't actually required! Fitness returns after a few games) As for 'duty of care', well I could quite easily suffer a heart attack on the pitch and that'd be it. I accept that risk, and it seems the council (who runs one set of the pitches I play on) are the same. The benefits outweigh the risks. They have an on-site defibrillator, which is great, but never prohibit people from playing. Airsoft isn't quite as hard work as football, so I think the bar for protecting us oldies from ourselves can be a fair bit lower. (Or is it higher?) I'm more worried about twisting my ankle. Luckily we have a stretcher used in one of the 'rescue the pilot' games at SpecialOps, so it's there if I need it

  32. You did put some Haribo in the package, right? Tangfastics get the quickest service. Well, you won't get any arguments about the choice of tech. However, that's 4 months when you won't get to play with your new toy. I'm not judging, I get that some of us enjoy the collecting as much as the playing, but you don't even get to hang it on the wall for that time. As to the value for money, I would view it this way. If a retailer that also did teching listed the same RIF at two prices, one "as stock, best RIF ever", one Β£75 higher listed as "pre-serviced, bestest RIF ever", would you pay the higher price? Me, I'd be wondering what's wrong with it, that it needs pre-fixed. Looking at you, VFC.

  33. The other issue is how many people say "just a shim and grease please" There's a lot of FOMO in airsoft - people who've never even used their guns asking how to get max range, accuracy and even ROF from them. So there's a lot of "make my gun the best it can be" which means new gears, piston, mosfet, a barrel etc and even paintjobs!

I used sad face cos "you had to say it" 😏 To be honest it's been probably 18+ years since I stopped using textile holsters with the kinds of pistol that have the potential to dump mags, if I remember correctly I lost 2 G19 mags in 2 weeks, but I can't actually remember if back then I had a taclite fitted, probably not ?

  37. So a friend and I had an impromptu day out at driver wood, as impromptu as you can be with pre-booking anyway. I was trying out my new ghillie cobra hood, new camo clothes, and a new scope. They've got a very fancy staging area, lots of benches for everyone, despite the probably around 200 people there, a cafe, quite nice toilets, and a little area to watch the paint ballers while you eat lunch. We played entirely on the two long roads with 'the maze' in the middle, which might as well be a cqb area with how dense it is. It's a nice area to play in though, there's a few sightlines and vehicles in the middle. First downer was that I forgot my fan goggles, so I had to use my shooting glasses which at least don't blind me, but do fog a bit. This also meant I couldn't run face pro with camo on the front as it would make the fogging even worse. not a super effective ghillie with a big pink face in the middle. Anyway, first game I had a nice spot watching the double decker bus on the road, but about half way through the first game, maybe 30 minutes in, there was a call of 'game over' from a nearby field of paintballers, and I thought it was our game, so I stood up and then got shot in the head, and never managed to push that far in. Kind of a negative imo. Also someone very angry at people not calling hits and being overshot. Actually lots of complains of overshooting. Personally I blame the vegetation for this, I didn't see hit shruggers myself. The veg is just thin enough you can often see movement through it but your bbs will get thrown every which way bar forwards. Still, it's not a pleasant experience to have people yelling at each other nearby. It did seem to get better as the day went on, maybe seΓ±or shouty went home or calmed down, idk. There was a pretty cool game mode with where we had to capture some "rogues", players with a 15 sec timeout on hit. We also did some bomb escorts, and some zombies at the end. Although parallel games does have some drawbacks with fields so close, it does mean rentals aren't forced against walk-ons, and while I'm not against that, it means almost every player is playing nice and aggressively, supporting the objectives and so on. It felt very even in the teams, though I have zero idea who won any of the games, lol. Ghillie worked really well, especially in the thick veg of the maze. I had one player only spot me due to the neon green armband I had to wear, and some not see me even when I was just milling about standing up. With my fan goggles, face covering, and the more subdued colour of my local field's arm bands, I have some high hopes. Though I do still need some pictures in the game zone to really judge it. I am 100% shortening the back a little though, I kept stepping on the tail ends that had gotten a bit ripped. Jack pyke digicam. Pricey, fits small so instead of a large I'm a 2xl now, but a really nice soft shell outer layer. I thought it would be a touch rustley but I was able to move silently with it. I was kept dry of all the damp mud I was kneeling in, kept warm though it's not super cold today. Blends well with the ghillie. I like it. Again, would be curious to see some pics of myself in it. I'm really bad at remembering to take pics. Scope was good too, it's a Hawke Vantage. Nice and easy to zero, hasn't moved. Did general scope things well. When I wasn't fogging it was wonderfully clear. Overall a decent day for standard Β£25 walk on pricing.

  38. I've also got 2 of those, 1 black & 1 dyed green, but to be honest I've barely used them, as like many material holsters they don't fit well with all pistol designs, they can dump mags without your knowledge, so the only pistols I'd 100% recommend them with would be those that have a mag release on the actual mag well base, such as a Ruger mk1 or similar. Where possible I always recommend hard shell or 3d printed holsters to prevent mag loss
    2 points
  39. This is pretty good, as long as you adjust it properly for the pistol: https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/8fields-tactical-modular-universal-holster Finding them in stock is hard, but I've got two, one molle one and one drop leg that i've shortened to a thigh holster, and they're great.
