That's likely to be more down to your hop up and BB weight. Decent pistols have the same range as AEGs - roughly 50 metres. People can probably offer more accurate advice if you specify what your current SMG is and what weight BBs you use as you might be able to get more range out of it without really spending much money. That said some guns do just have bad hop units. I'd also look at cleaning the barrel and taking out the hop rubber to check for signs of wear/damage, if it's dirty they can be cleaned with warm soapy water. Also I really rate the Cyma M14s if you are looking for a good value battle rifle style gun.3 points

Something to consider also is that the American's will eventually force Nato to adopt the 6.8 round as they did with the 7.62 and them 5.56 round. This may be a few years away and will only happen if the US find that the 6.8 is all it is cracked up to be. If it does happen there will be a flood of countries and companies producing new rifles in 6.8 and the ability to manufacture the new round (as it's quite complex). This would be the ideal time for the UK to develop a new rifle however we don't know how to do that any more as no one is allowed a gun and even replicas firing 6mm bb's are frowned upon. The mostly likely outcome will be similar to the SLR and we will buy the rights to produce our own home built version of someone else's rifle. Probably best to stick to a known good rifle pattern until the new round starts making headway into Nato and might have been a driver for the KS-1 selection. The A2's in the armoury aren't a good option as they were procured to replace the worn out A1's and the A2's are now getting to the same point in their life. More telling is the lack of L85's being issued to the newly formed units and indicates that there is a push to remove the stanglehold the L85 seems to have over the Armed Forces. It's not the worst rifle in the world but it doesn't matter how much you upgrade it, you can't polish a turd. The amount of mangles A2 stamped steel receivers I seen on the armourers bench down in Helmand would give a good indication of just how cheap it really is.1 point -

The second paragraph is me - the bullet points are the Twitter author's view paraphrased. The platform is fine - but it's just a very well made M4. Nothing new. No space-wizard shit-hot unobtanium cool new technology. Just a nicely built M4. The UK already has a similarly-well built M4 already in inventory (albeit in limited numbers) - it's called the Colt Canada/Diemaco L119A1/2 - as used by those special folks and a some RM and RMP units. I think the author is pissed as this selection process (Project HUNTER) for the Rangers/Royal Marines could feed into to the wider Project GRAYBURN to replace the L85 completely in HM Armed Forces use. Buying a fairly standard (but quite cool looking) M4 platform and using existing 5.56 ammunition could be argued as a wasted (once in a generation) opportunity - instead of buying into something with higher lethality and better ballistic performance to defeat modern body armour. I think the author wants something more gucci to align with the US DoD M7 program (i.e. a Sig-based Piston Driven 6.8mm platform). But the KS-1 will work just fine - like the millions of other Direct Impingement 5.56mm M4 guns in use all over the world.1 point -

In a nutshell - here are the arguments presented (heavily paraphrased): - not made in the UK - Wrong Calibre (they want 6.5 or 6.8mm) - Not modular enough to re-equip with .300 BLK BCGs and Barrels easily for sneaky sneaky work. - Direct Impingment = Runs too hot for sustained fire (apparently) - Direct Impingment = no good for general infantry as they cannot clean it properly (apparently) - Direct Impingment = crap suppressed performance with excessive gas to user's face (apparently) - Should be a piston gun. Doesn't matter that the US Military have been running these type of guns for that last 50+ years, and will be for decades to come - even with the M7 rollout (if that actually happens).1 point -

Unspoken rules in airsoft?
TheFull9 reacted to BigBell1987 for a topic
Regarding friendly fire, most sites I've been you just take the hit but on my local site you take it initially however if its then quickly established that it was friendly fire then the shooter takes the hit in your place and returns to spawn. There is an unwritten rule here where regulars shot by rentals and noobs let them off and take the hit anyway gently letting them know by saying something along the lines of, "careful mate that's a team kill but I'm going to take it for you, you crack on". It's also kind of an unwritten rule that if you've already walked 5 or so meters as a dead man before establishing it's friendly then you just crack on to spawn regardless. Works well even though it sounds messy and it encourages trigger discipline however it's a small indoor site and I'm not sure it would work so well on a big outdoor site with lots of players where the walk to respawn is lengthy.1 point -
Venting gas from every orifice. Although I’ve come back to it this morning to give it a go and it seems to be ok so far… 3rd photo, from web, that appears to match and makes me think it’s a WE… I think I have an answer, thanks to @MILITATED and an ad he’s posted that I saw whilst casually browsing potential replacements. WE it is.1 point

Barrel length doesn't matter so much as it does for the real thing, but if you're looking at maybe an AUG you'd get that for 'free' anyway. I have the TM high cycle variant which is very compact but still has a decent barrel length within it. It's a great little thing, always gets a lot of positive comments when I use it ☺️. Given the low power output of your typical TM AEG, it still still gets out-ranged by other guns, so maybe one of the other manufacturer's ones will suit you better. Given you've also mentioned FAMAS as well I suspect you're one of us (has a bullpup link!). So L85 etc also a possibility? The problem with those is they all seem to have their foibles, but I think they're damned cool all the same.1 point -
Unwritten rule no.6, paragraph 3 - it’s just a game. If you get hit, call it. If it was a good shot, say so. If you’re not sure, take the hit anyway. You will always encounter people who don’t take a hit, whether because they just didn’t feel it (plate carriers etc) or because they’re a dick. You’ll also encounter people who miss, but swear blind they hit you. There’s two sides to every exchange on the field and we’ll all be on both of them. Also, leave the marshals to deal with issues, no good comes from a confrontation where neither side will budge, you may as well just shout at a wall. Chill out, remove yourself from the situation and go have fun firing BBs at people that play nice.1 point

Yes, spawn camping is bad and you shouldn't do it. However, I've done it myself on a few very limited occasions. I will typically only do it if I'm on a team that is getting rolled super super hard, since I can usually sneak around the bulk of the enemy team, and even then only for a time as people will get annoyed by it. In general, spawn camping is bad though and shouldn't be done. Yes, you should call your hits if your own team hits you. Friendly fire still counts, no matter the situation. Ricochets depend on the site. I generally don't like it, since I think it can promote bad gameplay in my opinion, however I will take ricochets if the site's rules say that ricochets count, like at Gunman Namsoft events. For me, knife kills depend on the event. I think for most games, they should be a stealth kill. A gentle tap on the shoulder and a "knife kill" whisper, with the person not then yelling out "hit", instead just walking off quietly. Because stealth kill. I prefer it this way as it stops over-energetic airsofters from running around the site potentially smacking some poor kiddie in the face yelling "melee kill". However, at some events I think it's fine to have melee kills that aren't stealth kills, as long as it's said beforehand. We've done a few private games with the Worthing lot at the UCAP bunker in Portsmouth where melee kills are allowed and it's a good laugh, but it has to be with a LARP safe weapon. Although, I have never used my jiujitsu for melee kills in airsoft and I think it would be frowned upon if I disarmed and threw an airsofter on the ground ? And about the other question that seems to have popped up about hit takers, I give them three strikes and they're out. Sometimes they just aren't hit and I think a lot of airsofters overestimate their guns. I've had people yelling "take your hits!" at me, while I'm watching their BBs land 10m in front of me, or they're shooting the wrong part of the bush I'm hiding under because they haven't actually seen me yet but think they have. However, if I hit someone, see it hit them (magnified scopes are great for this) and they don't take it, I'll give them another shot to the torso. If they don't take that one, I give them a Kicking Mustang special in the face. It generally doesn't come down to that as most people take the 2nd hit. Sometimes they just aren't sure it's a hit. Sometimes they think nobody can see them when they get hit, but are convinced when they get hit a 2nd time. Also, trades happen. I don't think there should be any "yeah, but I hit you first" argument when we're talking about milliseconds. Obviously if the person hit first was hit way before hand, didn't take the hit and then shot back then sure, that's not a trade, but when two people see each other, shoot each other and get hit within milliseconds of each other, both players should call it and walk back to respawn or call for a medic, depending on site rules.1 point

Parcel arrived with some goodies from airsoftworld - box of 6x TAG smoke grenades - 2× pots .36g ASG BBs - 2× Mlok to picatiny rail adapters (to replace knackered chineseum ones on my tippmann) And a conceal carry holster for my TM LCPII and stay tuned, because if the tracking data is to be believed, I may have another update tomorrow with even more kit1 point

Yes, that sounds about right. If the adjustment screw wasn't in at all then the gears must not have been in contact at all. That would also mean that it wouldn't matter if the motor was wrongly wired. I would guess the free spin of the motor must have overloaded some part of the MOSFET board. If its the MOSFET then it should be relatively easy to replace with a basic one.1 point

Seems we're segueing to "how to fix airsoft", so my unwritten rule is: be the person that you want to play against. You're sure you weren't hit, and you're sure you made the hit, and the other player says "You going to take that?" What to do? Argue it out? You're not going to alter what they're equally sure happened. Even if they are actually delusional, even if they're deliberately cheating, and regardless of what reality really was, right at that point, the best thing you can do is to say "Good shot, nice one!", put your hand up, and walk away. Because arguing the toss guarantees two sulky faces, over nothing, because there's no prize for "winning". When you've got the power to gift happiness, why not wield it?1 point

It's hardly user error. With many sites/milsims having a semi auto only rule for non support guns, it's only natural you're going to be spamming semi auto.1 point
