For once I'm not trying to start a handbag fight over lubing rubbers, and silicone can't hurt in any way. I'm just curious where the idea for (habitually) lubing hop rubbers came from given that they're about the cheapest consumable part in a gun, and it'll be wiped off the mound rapidly anyway. To be fair, Luke seems to be a fan of lubing at the end of the day and cleaning at the start, and shows a startling difference in air seal and energy between dried out (with alcohol, or time in this case) and lubed. So after 10 years of sitting, I do actually agree that you might as well spooge whatever silicone based lube you've got in there. I wouldn't use anything else though - I'm not at all fussy about metal to metal and will use any old grease or low-fling oil, but silicone hop rubbers and nitrile rubber o-rings only see silicone.2 points

Returning to Airsoft with (mostly) AEGs not used in 10 years...
Rogerborg and one other reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
tbf, i've tended to find any lube on the hop rubber will wear off after the first half mag or so, less if you've done a decent job drying it off before installation. that said, hop rubbers are wear components and not particularly expensive relative to the performance you get from a decent setup, so frankly replacing it wholesale would also be my preferred path in this case. same goes for gearbox seals, especially the piston head although the cylinder head and any nozzle o-rings too if they can't be saved by a little silicone bath. ofc that's going with the caveat that the op feels confident in their ability to strip, clean and reassemble the box with fresh lubrication, otherwise 'borgs suggestion of a little silicone lube down the nozzle would be the cheapest and easiest route short of getting them booked in with a reputable tech.2 points -

Cyma M14 - needs a bit of fettling
RostokMcSpoons reacted to Spencer6277 for a topic
The prommy 6.03 barrel is a good clean barrell. I've got one in my TM M14 long version. The barrell is 500mm so end up abit pricey. Good quality barrel inside and out. Just needed a clean. The only thing I find about them is the window is abit narrow. Not alot of contact patch. The maple.leaf Mr Hop never fitted this barrel. Ive had to file out the windows to open them up and allow more contact a few times Best results using a 500mm prommy barrel I find are: Full length cylinder, Flat hop using omega or H nub and prommy purple bucking. Maple leaf bucking but with a little window work Or Rhop - IRhop. I personally run an IRhop. 420 fps .4s are gone ZCI make one and I'm sure it's a 6.02. You can get these in any length and they have the m14.cut on the barrell. Which means you can short stroke the 18:1 by a tooth or 2. Ive SS my M14 AR by 1 tooth and run a 363mm 6.02 for a snappier trigger and over volume for those heavier weights The window is wider on these so you can use maple leaf MR hop etc in them. I have had a couple that haven't fitted as nice and again filled down the window to open the gap up atad Or just Rhop this barrel Elvish tac make a drop in patch for the prommy one and maybe the zci. To be honest they are small I think. I make mine instead for myself and customers. AOLS also make a 6.02 or maybe 6.01 cant remember now. The clean closet to the ZCI in quality and over appearance. probably out of the same factory. If you are looking to do internal work then thats a whole other story Alot of pitfuls and sourcing parts. Tbh the internals for the CYMA variants aren't great. Most.of it comes out when I build one of them. Only real part that's left is the tappet plate as they are specific to Cyma. Shs tappets do not feed in a cyma. Or not many. I generally just work on V7 m14s for myself and customers. So any questions let me know mate.1 point -
Gbls das Gdr 15 Skirmish Review
Mr Dellski reacted to mightyjebus for a topic
I suppose it's time for an update on the GBLS. Well the AEG is still running solid and still turns heads when shooting in full auto during a game. I bought 8 of the new PTS EPM 30/120 round GBLS magazines and the good news is the bolt lock works fine on the new version. I had to give 4 of them a good strip down and spray with silicon oil as they didn't want to feed but since the maintenance 3 of the 4 work fine. The last one actually has a damaged feed lip (weirdly at the front, not the top part where the BB exits). I've emailed PTS to see if they sell the feed lips as it looks to be an easy piece to replace but failing that I'll design a 3D printable version instead of buying another magazine. it's very much a niche AEG because of the price but everyone who tries mine always has a smile on their face.1 point -

Where a real PC should sit on your torso
Lozart reacted to Emergencychimps for a topic
So agree with this statement. Also, if you're a larger guy (like me) don't wear a ubacs thats too small (or often....even the right size) a field shirt/jacket is a bit more flattering - even under a PC. Maybe just don't do that in the summer.1 point -
Abdo panels for the win. As a *ahem* larger gentleman, I wear my knock off AVS where it "should" be, the main issue of size being more related to how all the chinese knock offs are sized for a small or at best medium plate bag. Given that the plate is only supposed to cover the vital organs, it looking like a tactical tube top is pretty much a foregone conclusion when the plate bag is smaller than it should be for your frame. If you want more protection from BBs in those soft squidgy areas, get an abdo panel, side plate bags etc, don't just try and cover what you have with the PC, it just looks stupid.1 point

You know the hop works with friction right? Its good to make sure the rubber hasn't dried out and become brittle/cracked but the inside should NOT have any 'lube' when in use.1 point

I don't typically wear my plate carrier, but I'm an immersion nerd who will silently LARP my way through a skirmish day and for the role I play a chest rig is preferable even in the real world. The whole idea of the recce role is to not get into firefights, as well as climbing up, down, left and right of all manner of weird terrain which you definitely do not want to be doing in body armour. I'll put my plate carrier as part of my CQB loadout for sure and I put weighted plates in it to mimic real body armour weight because I'm a massive nerd as I already stated; doing a role where you're expecting firefights you definitely want body armour! That being said, I find it hard to wear a plate carrier because I'm big and tall and they can look comically small on me. The placement of the plate is supposed to cover your vital organs, but I feel like mine are always poking out the sides That and there are quite a few, um... rotund(?) individuals who play airsoft and plate carriers look even more comical on that body type. I mean, if you want to wear it, wear it, all power to you, but I think it looks silly and will definitely be aiming for the flabby bit underneath or spilling out of the sides with whichever flavour of sniper rifle I am using on the day 😇1 point

lokkers reacted to Floperator for a topic
The sight of a poor creaking plate carrier being pressed into use as a girdle may be even worse. At some point a chap needs to do the decent thing and just put on a gillie suit for the sake of the rest of us. Ive gradually come to the opinion that while many people *want* a plate carrier, what they *need* is a chest rig.1 point -

Teacher asked the children what their Dad's did for a living. All the typical answers came up... Builder, fireman, policeman, salesman, etc.Joshua, a kid with a blond mop of hair, was being uncharacteristically quiet and so the Teacher asked him about his Dad. 'My Dad's an exotic dancer in a gay bar and takes off all his clothes in front of other men. Sometimes, if the offer is really good, he'll go out to the back lane and have sex with them for money. The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement, hurriedly set the other children to work on some colouring, and took little Joshua aside to ask him, 'Is that really true about your Dad?''No,' said Joshua, 'He's just resigned as the PM but I was too embarrassed to say that in front of the other kids.1 point -
The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread
Tactical Pith Helmet reacted to Cannonfodder for a topic
The best response to some twat at the back screaching for others to push up was from a mate. The screamer was some kid who thought being a cadet made him Geral Patton, and said mate picked him up by the straps on his webbing, carried him forward 10 yards and unserimoniously dumped him on the floor, before telling him to move up.1 point -
The only time I've genuinely Had Words with anyone on site was a Major Moveup, who I... cordially... invited to show us how it was done rather than just yelling "orders". To be fair, he actually did say "All right then, I will if you won't", C-clamped up, and John Wicked into the chokepoint room. Sadly, that was shortly followed by multiple shouts of "Marshal!", "Take your hits, you cheating [cad]!" and "Like [fork] I'm taking that, do one". Because... Yup, the root case of most airsoft evil. 5% of players are 95% of problems, just get rid of them.1 point

You can't believe what most people say on airsoft forums about camo, they're emotionally invested in their purchases, same as phone OSs and everything else. Most of the advice is regurgitated from being read on other airsoft forums and passed on through 10 gens of players with the original info coming from kevin down the pub who was gonna join the TA but 'decided against it' (too fat). Look at your site pics in summer and winter, wet and dry, find the dominant colours and match as best you can; assuming you don't just wanna wear MC Black or whatever. Over the years I've come to a very rough rule that if you can have 4 uniforms of the common military style you'll be fairly well sorted almost everywhere you go in Europe, these are some reasonably obtainable/practical examples as of 2022: Dark green (very heavily vegetated woodlands with little floor vis) - US Woodland, Temperate DPM, Tigerstripe, MC Trop, Ranger Green Light green (ground is most covered in standard grass plants) - Multicam+family, AOR2, Concamo, Tropical DPM Dark brown (probably most common, soil is brown) - Temperate MARPAT, Flecktarn, Coyote Brown, Concamo Brown Light brown (dead leaves on the ground when dry) - Desert DPM, AOR1/Desert MARPAT/NWUII, Desert Tigerstripe, US 3 Color Desert Obviously there's a billion caveats, there's in-betweens, variances in batches, variances between mil surp and commercial stuff like mil-tec, there's at least dozens if not hundreds of variants of just Tigerstripe and none of this takes in to account different garment types like softshells or GTX etc etc etc... I always liked this image I got at a game as a good example of the 4th category. Typical English woodland but DPM would be shit here. I looked up pics from the site's facebook page in advance and chose accordingly; should've gone full AOR1 if anything. I think GreenZone and ATACS-iX could maybe be considered quite well rounded as multi-area patterns for UK woods much of the year and the design technology advancement in them vs the '80s movie' families (US Wood, DPM, CCE etc) is clear. But Multicam has the most consistent results all around in my observation, which obviously lines up with its' mass adoption around the world - part of that is because it's cheaper to issue 1 set of course.1 point

Eh? What lube are you putting in your hop unit or barrel? OP, I'd put some silicone (liquid or spray) into the nozzle, then blow it out with some auto blasts until it's clear so you don't get any into the hop rubber. And maybe some low fling oil into the gearbox. I mean, ideally you'd open it up, clean it out and re-grease it, but these aren't really precision machines. I've dripped a little chainsaw oil into a gearbox before without calamity.0 points
