    Hi everyone

Hi bud. Nice to meet you as well. I bet I know what gun you want to get 😂 Check out 'playairsoft.co.uk' that will tell you about any sites near you. Be prepared to have your wallet hoovered clean lol. Find a site near you, make a booking as a rental player(I'm assuming you don't have any kit yet) and go along. You will need some sensible oldish clothes but make sure you are well covered. Good sturdy boots with ankle support are a must as is good quality eye protection with ballistic rating of En166,En172. No eye pro no play. As a rental you will get a gun, battery and ammo.there will probably be full face masks if you want. It would be a good idea to use them to start with. You will still need your eye pro though. Talk to people there, you will find them ready and willing to help you out with any questions.(I wouldn't though cause I'm an anti social git!) If you enjoy it and want to carry on then that's good but be prepared to spend 😂 Good luck👍 Regards

  4. In comparison to the above, just a rather modest real steel XM177/Car 15 slim handguard from Brownells as I'm fed up with the airsoft version that I previously slapped on the Cyma being really flexy and creaky. For something that you are in contact with all the time, it really detracted from the feel of the rif, and for £25 posted, I thought I couldn't go wrong. Might need to remove the internal heat shield to fit in the batteries though!

  5. Random room inspections can and do happen. I have been in the slightly awkward position of having to run a disciplinary case against a student whose RIF was found in his wardrobe. I am my faculty's Prevent officer, so I have to check up on students who have been accessing websites and content on university WiFi or via university PCs that could indicate that they are at risk of radicalisation or are potentially a risk. Recently, a Chinese Year 3 direct entry student was flagged for accessing a number of airsoft sites. I called him in, as I am required to, and asked him in particular about an airsoft site whose website he had repeatedly accessed. He explained that he and his friends were looking for sites to play at; I asked him if he had played at that site and he said he had. I asked him when and, when he told me, asked him which team he had been on. When he told me, I mentioned that we might well have shot each other. We then spent a great hour talking about airsoft. The moral of that is that you should not look up airsoft related content using university PCs or WiFi, including Eduroam.

    Hi everyone

Welcome to the money pit! Don't worry about not having a social group to play with. You can make good acquaintances, if not new friends, through airsoft. I went to the majority of my games without people I met outside of airsoft. As Shamal said, having suitable eyepro is an absolute must. You can get very afforable eye protection that's suitable for airsoft, just don't be tempted by the cheapest thing you find on eBay that doesn't come from a known brand such as Bolle. In addition to boots with good ankle support, good gloves are a worthwhile investment - being shot in the knuckles with thin or no gloves can be much more painful (not long lasting though) than you might expect. Rental might seem expensive to start but think of it as an investment in the hobby. If the worst should happen and you decide airsoft isn't for you, rental will likely be a smaller loss than you would experience buying a two-tone, only to find you find yourself struggling to resell it for even close to what you paid.

    Hi everyone

London is rather large ... roughly which bit? Do you have your own transport? How far are you willing to go? Welcome to the site! The last thing to worry about is a social network of airsofters... I regularly go on my tod. Airsofters are a friendly bunch.

  13. I've been there 3 or 4 times over the last 18 months....the first time I seem to recall having mixed feelings on the marshalls, but we did have a blast the other times. Will make a point of coming to Red Alert and see if we can bring a party of 5 or 6. 👍 The boy is fishing for a 2 day event this summer..... he hasn't shot anyone since August.

  14. Can't even begin to imagine the amount of money I've pissed this week ordering stuff for Sunday's game. So many bits and bobs it's unreal, little wanky items from a million different places and it's cost me a fortune. XC2 from ali, muzzlebreak, new trigger assembly and magpul grippy-things from Milspec around the corner. Found a great deal on a Blackhawk Sepra Level 3 light bearing holster for it too... ...which doesn't fit because the geniuses over in Tokyo decided to fatten up their 18s and WE copied their homework a bit too closely. Guess it'll be around if I ever muster up the courage for a VFC or GHK which I'm assuming are actually to scale. Shame, but considering the price being so good it was worth a go. Also got a claw mount for the MP5 (ali) alongside some spare straight mags from DCA (unfortunately not the cool riveted ones! didn't know they did them!) so I've got a full combat load of around five magazines plus somewhere to mount the HW XPS for Sunday, considering the UTR's hurt, the AK won't go into semi, and the G36 won't feed ammo properly. Airsoft! Also decided to grab a pair of Laylax 'high bullet' speedloaders from Land Warrior which I re-lubed because they sounded awful. Very satisfying. Also spent a bomb at MLEMart to get parts for the VFC USP working again, alongside a replacement cocking handle for the MP5 as the CYMA's just a clone of the VFC AEG. And a bunch of fake WADSN goodies from ali including a PTT button and a set of jarg Comtacs (that are the wrong version and will be returned soon) And a baseplate o-ring repair kit from Lees Precision. Think that's everything. Jesus Christ. I've got nothing left.

  15. Buying the wrong springers😉. I've seen many a low end gbb fail after a mag or less. As is always the answer, Tokyo Marui 😄.

  16. That does look very wrong; the bearing should really not interfere that much with the selector plate. Unless you are building a super high speed gun, good quality bushings are probably preferable to the cheap and nasty bearings usually used in airsoft guns.
    2 points
  17. It really isn't, in our application especially. Good bushings are always going to be better than cheap bearings anyway. What he said. Take it apart and check to see if all the bearings you have are actually the same thickness.

  18. You need to be really specific about what actually breaks, how it breaks and what you do to resolve it. Pictures or, ideally, a video will help is diagnose whats wrong. The vagueness of your description is of no use. As you say, they are complicated things with many parts that can go wrong.

  19. I've bought some parts from here with no issues... https://www.kyairsoft.com/ . I've not fielded mine yet due to a previous owner fecking up an npas installation but it was easily fixed with the parts I got from kyairsoft. I'm a Scar fanboi & this is probably one of my favourite pews, kinda waiting for decent weather to use it in game but recently ordered some red gas but I suspect it might be a bit hot for my local site (hense the npas), I got 5 or 6 mags with it & 2 of them have lost the base plate so make sure your's are solid on the mag. The mags are hefty so use sharpshooter sized mag pouches if you wear molle. fyi... I found it easy to strip down for maintenance but make sure ALL the screws are tight as I found a couple of my body screws loose & one was missing (assuming they loosened due to the GBB). I'm sure I've seen a couple in the classifieds with missing or broken fore sights so check it over & tighten/adjust them as you see fit.

  22. Nope, inserted the right way. I did continue to play with it before i came to work and the selector does sit flat ish on the gearbox. I've put it back in the reciever and, apart from forgetting to put the selector spring back in, it selects fine. I'll finish it off when i get up tomorrow and report back.
    1 point
  23. Weird It looks to me it will still interfere because the groove on your selector plate doesn't look deeper than the 1.12 mm that you need, because the upper surface is supposed to be touching the gearbox surface when installed, so the grooves need to be deeper than your protruding bearing to go over it But, you can just swap the bearings around, put the thicker one below and the thinner one above, problem solved And just to check, you haven't inserted the bearings from the outside, right?
    1 point
  24. Looks to me like you've fitted a 3mm wide bearing under the selector plate but a 2.5mm on the bevel gear. Ideally you need 2.5mm bearings. You can fit 3mm, in fact EZO (3x8x3) get their extra strength from being 0.5mm wide. EZO do 2.5mm wide but the set I tested exploded. Can you measure them?

The horror stories are mostly caused by people 'upgrading' one component and not everything then wondering why the steel munches their pot metal existing components.

    Hi everyone

Hey thanks for the welcome! Am located around Wandsworth, I have wheels and could travel but probably only once I'm more vested, but I do see that bunker-51 is nearby, if you are familiar with them do they have some sort of pick up group format? I'll give em a call. Yes will defintely not skimp on that then. thank you. haha yes my favourite gun....., thanks for the welcome.

As others have posted, it's probably going to be against the uni's t&cs to keep rifs in halls of residence. The society should be able to advise you on alternatives. I use a gun bag similar to this when using public transport to get to games. https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/8fields-tactical-long-double-rifle-47-147cm-gun-case?pv=16035 When I first started I used to use a hard rifle case as it's more secure but I found it actually drew more attention from the public

As Colin has said - 99% chance of this being a no, and would get you into trouble. Contact the local society for their advice The norm is that it’s not allowed in halls Societies will have access to storage, but it will vary between Universities. I am aware that in the past Southampton University went through this for their members. Resident members in halls were not permitted to keep RIFs, members in shared houses could and ‘key’ members of the society stored other members RIFs - but that meant that they became responsible for them and had issues when particular members weren’t attended an event. The society had storage via the Student Union, but it was as caged areas in store rooms - and one cage would be shared between two societies. Your specific society will be able to tell you what their arrangements are For something to physically store them in, the best is a hard case & a lock or a padlock. A non gun case is more anonymous for general transporting. The circumstances of your transportation can also vary - your own car, a bus, walking down the street etc

  31. I'm thinking that is only possible if the bearing is physically reversed? It's a while since I changed any bearings in a gearbox, but from memory they are 'lipped' so can't push through the holes in the gearbox casing like that, unless you've inserted it from the wrong side of the shell (or the holes in the gearbox case are massively enlarged/rounded off from a previous seized bearing).

  32. Wycombe Skirmish? I've heard it's improved. The site was always fine, but the marshals were appalling. Teenagers that gave no shits at all. I need to give it another try. Red Alert, on the other hand, has devastatingly handsome, witty and humble marshals. 😁

  33. Haven't been to Red Alert yet, but probably will in the summer when the boy is back as we have friends living in Lower Early. High Wycombe is also very good with nice safe zone a food options.

    WE Open Bolt SCAR H

Anything WE, Kyairsoft is the place to go. RA-Tech has a lot of hype however there’s a lot of horror stories of bad QC, tolerance differences messing up. Personally I haven’t bought any RA-Tech parts based on the poor feedback I’ve seen though. In terms of longevity, my WE G36 is my most used GBBR being fielded pretty much all summer for the past few summers and the internals are all holding up well!

    WE Open Bolt SCAR H

I don't have any specific experience with the SCAR line but I can say that WE are decent for the price 👍 The trigger components do tend to wear faster than with more expensive GBBR companies but as Gavin said, parts are available from KYAirsoft. (I have bought quite a few bits too) You can also get a Steel trigger pack from Ra-Tech like THIS (Reliable shop) So keep it serviced and enjoy 😁

  36. Because lighter BBs slow down significantly faster than heavier ones. It's enough that at about 30m they will impact at about the same time. Past 30m heavier BBs will start to land before lighter ones. I'll link the airsoft trajectory project. Someone using actual maths and simulations to map the ballistics of BBs. In the fifth chart, time of flight vs distance, you see an almost constant ~30% increase in travel time for a 0.2g bb over a 0.3g bb at the end of the range. https://mackila.com/airsoft/atp/07-b-07.htm full list of links https://mackila.com/airsoft/atp/

  38. A heavier BB will go further and quicker than a lighter one if it has the same forwards energy. The issue comes when you add hop to impart more of the springs energy to the BB to make it spin in a similar way to a lighter BB which leaves less energy to make it go forward, so it's slower out of the barrel not only because it's heavier, but also because some of the pushing energy got used up getting it to spin. Normally we would adjust the spring to add some FPS to compensate for the hop rubbing more. Joule creep happens because a heavier BB takes longer to speed up and exit the barrel than a lighter BB so the force acting on the BB can do so for a longer time (potentially the pressure will be higher too). This only works if the lighter BB wouldn't have used all the energy.

  39. It is with great sadness I have to announce the death of West Yorkshire’s former Chief Olympic hide and seek coach. Matthew Donovan was forced to retire from the role several years ago after a training exercise involving the teams rising star went seriously wrong, leading to his imprisonment for kidnapping. In recent times he had made something of a comeback in the “Vampire Dairys”. A story of pioneering work done raising the worlds first meat eating cattle. He was always in the shadow of his more illustrious brother Mike “big V” Donovan who led the successful resistance against the space Lizard invasion. RIP Dickhead.

  40. A farmer drove to a neighbor's farmhouse and knocked at the door. A boy, about 9, opened the door "Is your dad or mum home?" said the farmer. "No, they went to town." "How about your brother, Howard? Is he here?" "No, he went with Mum and Dad." The farmer stood there for a few minutes, shifting from one foot to the other, and mumbling to himself. "I know where all the tools are, if you want to borrow one, or I can give Dad a message." "Well," said the farmer uncomfortably, "I really wanted to talk to your Dad. It's about your brother Howard getting my daughter Suzy pregnant". The boy thought for a moment... "You would have to talk to Dad about that. I know he charges £500 for the bull and £50 for the pig, but I don't know how much he charges for Howard"

  41. I am grateful to all the people who contributed with helpful answers. Thanks to their advice, I decided to approach one of the retailers and explain my situation to them via email. Fortunately, the Airsoft retailer responded positively, allowing me to send the required photos ( My airsoft pictures ) This is excellent news for me as I can now avoid purchasing a second-hand or two-tone airsoft gun. I am delighted to have received such a warm and friendly response from everyone on this platform. I hope to find the same camaraderie and guidance on the airsoft field as well. live in Henley-on-Thames and have recently moved here. I have two options to choose from Highwycome and Reading. I plan to give both a try and hopefully find my ideal team in the UK for a long-term. @RorySending RIFs to Europe via airplanes is a viable option. However, it can be challenging to send them to the UK for non-citizens. I have attempted to send them myself, but I encountered several diplomatic demands via email that made it difficult to proceed. Perhaps there are alternative ways but we dont know yet.

    Ukara for non UK airsofters

To expand on what @Colin Allen put so succinctly, not really. There are places to play that cost less than £60 a pop to rent (Red Alert for example is £50) but to get your UKARA it costs what it costs I'm afraid. Plus, let's be honest if you've been playing plenty you're not going to want a) a gun as cheap as three rental sessions or b) just one RIF.
