    Hi everyone

Hi bud. Nice to meet you as well. I bet I know what gun you want to get 😂 Check out 'playairsoft.co.uk' that will tell you about any sites near you. Be prepared to have your wallet hoovered clean lol. Find a site near you, make a booking as a rental player(I'm assuming you don't have any kit yet) and go along. You will need some sensible oldish clothes but make sure you are well covered. Good sturdy boots with ankle support are a must as is good quality eye protection with ballistic rating of En166,En172. No eye pro no play. As a rental you will get a gun, battery and ammo.there will probably be full face masks if you want. It would be a good idea to use them to start with. You will still need your eye pro though. Talk to people there, you will find them ready and willing to help you out with any questions.(I wouldn't though cause I'm an anti social git!) If you enjoy it and want to carry on then that's good but be prepared to spend 😂 Good luck👍 Regards

  4. In comparison to the above, just a rather modest real steel XM177/Car 15 slim handguard from Brownells as I'm fed up with the airsoft version that I previously slapped on the Cyma being really flexy and creaky. For something that you are in contact with all the time, it really detracted from the feel of the rif, and for £25 posted, I thought I couldn't go wrong. Might need to remove the internal heat shield to fit in the batteries though!

  5. Random room inspections can and do happen. I have been in the slightly awkward position of having to run a disciplinary case against a student whose RIF was found in his wardrobe. I am my faculty's Prevent officer, so I have to check up on students who have been accessing websites and content on university WiFi or via university PCs that could indicate that they are at risk of radicalisation or are potentially a risk. Recently, a Chinese Year 3 direct entry student was flagged for accessing a number of airsoft sites. I called him in, as I am required to, and asked him in particular about an airsoft site whose website he had repeatedly accessed. He explained that he and his friends were looking for sites to play at; I asked him if he had played at that site and he said he had. I asked him when and, when he told me, asked him which team he had been on. When he told me, I mentioned that we might well have shot each other. We then spent a great hour talking about airsoft. The moral of that is that you should not look up airsoft related content using university PCs or WiFi, including Eduroam.

    Hi everyone

Welcome to the money pit! Don't worry about not having a social group to play with. You can make good acquaintances, if not new friends, through airsoft. I went to the majority of my games without people I met outside of airsoft. As Shamal said, having suitable eyepro is an absolute must. You can get very afforable eye protection that's suitable for airsoft, just don't be tempted by the cheapest thing you find on eBay that doesn't come from a known brand such as Bolle. In addition to boots with good ankle support, good gloves are a worthwhile investment - being shot in the knuckles with thin or no gloves can be much more painful (not long lasting though) than you might expect. Rental might seem expensive to start but think of it as an investment in the hobby. If the worst should happen and you decide airsoft isn't for you, rental will likely be a smaller loss than you would experience buying a two-tone, only to find you find yourself struggling to resell it for even close to what you paid.

    Hi everyone

London is rather large ... roughly which bit? Do you have your own transport? How far are you willing to go? Welcome to the site! The last thing to worry about is a social network of airsofters... I regularly go on my tod. Airsofters are a friendly bunch.

  13. I've been there 3 or 4 times over the last 18 months....the first time I seem to recall having mixed feelings on the marshalls, but we did have a blast the other times. Will make a point of coming to Red Alert and see if we can bring a party of 5 or 6. 👍 The boy is fishing for a 2 day event this summer..... he hasn't shot anyone since August.

  14. Can't even begin to imagine the amount of money I've pissed this week ordering stuff for Sunday's game. So many bits and bobs it's unreal, little wanky items from a million different places and it's cost me a fortune. XC2 from ali, muzzlebreak, new trigger assembly and magpul grippy-things from Milspec around the corner. Found a great deal on a Blackhawk Sepra Level 3 light bearing holster for it too... ...which doesn't fit because the geniuses over in Tokyo decided to fatten up their 18s and WE copied their homework a bit too closely. Guess it'll be around if I ever muster up the courage for a VFC or GHK which I'm assuming are actually to scale. Shame, but considering the price being so good it was worth a go. Also got a claw mount for the MP5 (ali) alongside some spare straight mags from DCA (unfortunately not the cool riveted ones! didn't know they did them!) so I've got a full combat load of around five magazines plus somewhere to mount the HW XPS for Sunday, considering the UTR's hurt, the AK won't go into semi, and the G36 won't feed ammo properly. Airsoft! Also decided to grab a pair of Laylax 'high bullet' speedloaders from Land Warrior which I re-lubed because they sounded awful. Very satisfying. Also spent a bomb at MLEMart to get parts for the VFC USP working again, alongside a replacement cocking handle for the MP5 as the CYMA's just a clone of the VFC AEG. And a bunch of fake WADSN goodies from ali including a PTT button and a set of jarg Comtacs (that are the wrong version and will be returned soon) And a baseplate o-ring repair kit from Lees Precision. Think that's everything. Jesus Christ. I've got nothing left.

  15. Buying the wrong springers😉. I've seen many a low end gbb fail after a mag or less. As is always the answer, Tokyo Marui 😄.

  16. That does look very wrong; the bearing should really not interfere that much with the selector plate. Unless you are building a super high speed gun, good quality bushings are probably preferable to the cheap and nasty bearings usually used in airsoft guns.
    2 points
  17. It really isn't, in our application especially. Good bushings are always going to be better than cheap bearings anyway. What he said. Take it apart and check to see if all the bearings you have are actually the same thickness.

  18. You need to be really specific about what actually breaks, how it breaks and what you do to resolve it. Pictures or, ideally, a video will help is diagnose whats wrong. The vagueness of your description is of no use. As you say, they are complicated things with many parts that can go wrong.

  19. I've bought some parts from here with no issues... https://www.kyairsoft.com/ . I've not fielded mine yet due to a previous owner fecking up an npas installation but it was easily fixed with the parts I got from kyairsoft. I'm a Scar fanboi & this is probably one of my favourite pews, kinda waiting for decent weather to use it in game but recently ordered some red gas but I suspect it might be a bit hot for my local site (hense the npas), I got 5 or 6 mags with it & 2 of them have lost the base plate so make sure your's are solid on the mag. The mags are hefty so use sharpshooter sized mag pouches if you wear molle. fyi... I found it easy to strip down for maintenance but make sure ALL the screws are tight as I found a couple of my body screws loose & one was missing (assuming they loosened due to the GBB). I'm sure I've seen a couple in the classifieds with missing or broken fore sights so check it over & tighten/adjust them as you see fit.

    University airsoft

We would have been fookked on many levels if they did this when I was at university. After we left halls (a large house just of campus) apparently we were the straw that broke the camels back and next year it was converted to an Islamic Studies department. Multiple times the Student's union bar manager had to walk 300m up the river bank to ask us to turn our music down 😎. University tradition was to invite final year students to return to halls.....we had no such invitation. Academia was very much second fiddle to the University of Life. Thinking about the carnage we caused with hair clippers and CO2 fire extinguishers.... I dread to think what could have been achieved with RIFs and pyros. 🥶. Fun times. Thankfully the year before a Labour (of all things) government brought in tuition fees. One of the first things we did in private rentals was work out how to "hinder" the smoke alarms. It was embarrassing how often they went off during Fresher's Week...... Of which I have stories I will not risk the boy reading here 🫣. Long live the 90's.

  32. Are all those bearings the same width? I use some 3x8x3 bearings and they do protrude and the one under the selector plate needed the plate relieving, but yours look wrong. One flush and one not is weird. i think you'll need to open it up again... https://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/Bearings-Deep-Groove-Ball-Bearings/c3_11/index.html?selection=Flanged+Ball+Bearing Select 3mm ID and you'll see 2, 2.5, 3 and 4mm widths.

  36. The reason is that the average speed of the bb is higher if it is heavier. With greater mass the bb slows down more slowly and the force due to drag is less because of the reduced speed from the outset. So you have less deceleration all the time for the same speed (.2 vs .4 is half of the deceleration due to drag of the .2) and more drag for the same energy for the .2, because its going faster and drag is exponentially increased with speed. The result is that the .2 has a high force slowing a light bb which reduces it's speed much more than the lower force on a heavier bb. The heavy one overtakes the light one in effect and arrives sooner than the light one. The graph above from the Airsoft trajectory project shows the time and mass relationship.
    1 point
  37. Because lighter BBs slow down significantly faster than heavier ones. It's enough that at about 30m they will impact at about the same time. Past 30m heavier BBs will start to land before lighter ones. I'll link the airsoft trajectory project. Someone using actual maths and simulations to map the ballistics of BBs. In the fifth chart, time of flight vs distance, you see an almost constant ~30% increase in travel time for a 0.2g bb over a 0.3g bb at the end of the range. https://mackila.com/airsoft/atp/07-b-07.htm full list of links https://mackila.com/airsoft/atp/

  38. Yeah time to target will be less with a heavier BB. Clearly at first, 15 to 20m if I recall correctly, the lighter BB will arrive first but the amount of time you are looking at is neglible. Only once the distance increases does time difference become a factor and then in favour of the heavier BB. Range is dictated by the hops ability to spin the BB and this uses energy so if you keep the same spring etc and try to spin a heavier BB you will lose some FPS but not necessarily any range, but you might.

  39. It is with great sadness I have to announce the death of West Yorkshire’s former Chief Olympic hide and seek coach. Matthew Donovan was forced to retire from the role several years ago after a training exercise involving the teams rising star went seriously wrong, leading to his imprisonment for kidnapping. In recent times he had made something of a comeback in the “Vampire Dairys”. A story of pioneering work done raising the worlds first meat eating cattle. He was always in the shadow of his more illustrious brother Mike “big V” Donovan who led the successful resistance against the space Lizard invasion. RIP Dickhead.

  40. I understand that the UK has specific rules, whereas the EU has no regulations in place. When I used to live in Sweden, I had no issues purchasing airsoft equipment from the US-based store, Evike. Our team members from Germany and Turkey also order their airsoft gear from Japan and China without any complications. Recently, I bought my WE M14 GBB from a manufacturer in China and had it shipped to Germany. I only had to pay the border tax and asked the company to label the box as a RIF with a pink flash hider. Picture here I think having a UKARA is a good thing also I am of the opinion that implementing firearm laws is imperative. However, I also believe that these laws should be designed in a manner that differentiates between hobbies and other activities and international players who intent to stay a bit longer in the country like me.
    1 point
  41. I didn’t say that UKARA is the only valid airsoft defence - it’s the most common recognised defence, but other valid ones can and do exist. (You may note that I also said ‘UKARA etc’) JustCos certainly isn’t, and the ‘operators’ of JustCos also know that it isn’t.
