  1. Yep, as said, its just a retailer thing to prove they have sold a potentially dangerous item to someone who will use it for its intended purpose. ie airsoft not robbing people etc. The retailers selling with JustCos are obviously desperate for some business at the moment so they are reducing their selling criteria. If a retailer is found to have sold a RIF (Realistic) airsoft gun which was later used in a criminal way then they could face some legal problems. I've not heard of any such situation but that's the background to it...

  3. There is no major drama - all you want to do is play, and you are entitled to do so. No retailer would be committing an offence in selling to you. Purchasing is not an offence JustCos is dodgy, but that’s their problem, and it’s a major stretch to say that the retailer would get caught and bring you into a conspiracy charge. Personally it’s a waste of £20 of your money to pay for JustCos in order to buy something that you can legally buy Do a Google search for airsoft guns to find more UK retailers, choose your weapon and try to check out. I’m not going to tell anyone what one, but (the last time I looked) one retailer has a tick box where most others would have a box for you to type in a UKARA number etc

  5. After my last message, I went and bought an M4 for the boy. Was cheap enough and with the adjustable stock, he should be fine. Also means my older boy and I can use it too. Good call on the M14, now that you both mention it, I remember looking into it before i took a dive, so will start to look at it again. I seem to remember really liking them, so good shout!

  6. A gun that I've recommended many times before is the M14 socom, I have the cyma version but have previously owned the full length tm m14, & Tbh there's very little between them in build quality & performance, but there is a pretty big difference in price. Mine is stock, but still performs incredibly well in the dmr style that I favour, but without higher power that would prevent its use at some sites, plus it means full auto is still usable if that's your thing. The other aspect of it which I like, & may be a consideration for your sons plinking/target practice, is the fact it has a traditional shape rifle stock, which is perfect for learning the core skills of marksmanship (as a former RGJ it was more apparent to me), it has to be shouldered properly for the best results, none of this half arsed aiming common with the more modern platforms. Whether your son is capable of handling a socom, I don't know, but for not many shekels you could pick up a full length m14, or maybe an ebr ?, & the shorter socom for him, giving you 2 compatible platform's capable of most jobs. Worth considering ? PS how good is the socom, last time I fielded it I dominated the other team for range & accuracy (just using single shot & .20's), & between games I was asked a few times by younger players "Wot kinda snipers that mate, its wicked" etc lol.

  7. Pretty much: rotary hop up, maple leaf omega nub, maple leaf bucking (mr ones are prett good), and a zci 6.02 barrel for range and accuracy. All you can get from our favourite supplier AK2M4 :)

  8. Unfortunately my experience is pretty much all with snipers, pistols and some GBBRs, but I'll throw the Cyma SR-25, m14 and mp5k into the mix as AEGs I have experience with. SR-25 is more expensive, but the platinum internals are really nice and it feels lighter than the m14. m14 is a great base and mine was fairly quiet out of the box for an AEG, but even just disassembling to get to the barrel and hop unit is a little involved and it's a bit heavier. mp5k is small and probably more usable by your son than the other two I would imagine In all of those, all you'd need to do is swap out the hop rubber and nub to get some spicy ranges; could do a barrel change while you're at it, but it's unnecessary. I like Maple Leaf macaron rubbers (70 degree is what I like, but 60 is also good), Maple Leaf omega nubs and ZCI stainless steel barrels. In terms of pistols, anything TM. 1911 has a small grip.

  11. I highly doubt that BBgunz4U are scouring this forum and matching up usernames to purchasers. That's a bogus scheme set up by AirsoftWorld to give themselves the appearance of a defence. It's hard to see why they bother, since it's not one. However, that's their problem, not yours. Only the seller is committing an offence. If you're 18+ then you're not committing any offence by purchasing or attempting to purchase a RIF (within the UK), for any reason or for none. Pay your £20 tithe, buy whatever you want, find out that airsoft isn't for you, and flog it on the classifieds. I'd echo what @Tackle said, be careful with the use. Don't take it to the local dogging wood or round your mates to show it off, only have it in public when you're on the way to or from an airsoft site, and be prepared to show that in the (very) unlikely event that anyone takes an interest. UKARA (or equivalents) have no bearing on possession either way, although it probably couldn't hurt to flim-flam a copper at the roadside by talking about your "licence number".

  12. Yes, fill your boots, ukara is just a scheme set up by retailers, obviously it's in THEIR best interests, but it also goes some way to satisfy the authorities that Airsoft is attempting to police itself & meet the requirements of the vcra. Ultimately no one has ever arrived at a site with a rif & been asked how they obtained it. Those kinda questions will only ever be asked if you wave it around in the local post office etc. Out of interest, what form of defense are you utilising to purchase a rif, & who's accepting said defense, I'm not asking with a view to critique you or them, it's just always good to know what alternatives to ukara are out there.

  17. Beat me to my look around & re-edit
    1 point
  18. Eh, what? No, there's no "law", it's entirely down to the site and their insurer's terms. You'll need to ask the site(s) where you play. What's typical (but not universal) is that under 16s need a single piece full face, like a paintball mask, while 16-17 can have two-piece eyepro + lower face protection. But we can't guess what your site will allow, either in principle, or in practice on the day. [EDIT] Beat me to it by seconds.
    1 point
  19. The ‘law’ doesn’t say that under 18s are to specifically wear full face protection. Site rules and their liability insurance require full face protection. Safety standards in require compliant eye protection, but in airsoft that is the minimum standard and sites/risk assessments & mitigation and insurers are allowing over 18s a level of self responsibility In paintball there are long established standards which went from “this is a new thing and there is no safety standard, but we don’t want to be sued, so you must wear eye protection and try to avoid shooting heads in case it comes off” to attaching face shields, and ultimately setting international standards of paintball protective goggles which cover the eyes, face & ears and chin straps Your question should be directed to the sites that you play at …. And be prepared to get one answer in advance and to get a different answer when you turn up and try to play

  24. Your absolutely right, it is dodgy as fuck, but no more dodgy than all the vcra itself, a kneejerk reaction supposed to combat a criminal element who in truth are more inclined to use real firearms or converted deacts than Airsoft toys. Ultimately your committing no offence, if one is being commited its the retailer who's at fault, but as previously explained they, or you, won't be held accountable unless use your shiny new rif to commit crime, the fact your here asking pertinent questions & having a conscious concern tells us that's highly unlikely. So if you want the gat, assuming the retailer isn't hiking the price way above the norm to screw you over, just buy it, get to a site and use it, qualify for your ukara so you have other options, & don't look back, it's not worth worrying about.

  27. I think you're right. Two guns is the way forward. Cheap for him, something else for me. You'd think I'd have a clue about what to get for myself, but I am unsure. Aesthetics I'm not massively bothered about - I just want to be able to reach out and hit someone at a decent range and do it a few times so they get the hint. Sniping is grand, but got fed up of working my arse off for the shot, for them to shrug it off and full auto me back. I still love the Vector, but the range was never great. The search continues... Nope. Nope. And thrice Nope. Not a chance I would have a clue how to do any of that and actually make it work!

  28. 1911s have notoriously low gas reservoirs because the magazines are so small. 10 BBs max sounds like you have issues though, as in a warm environment you should be in the 20s. As to what to replace it with should you want to get a new pistol, my recommendations are basically any TM, whichever flavour you like most, and keep it totally stock; the only time I advise tinkering with pistols is if they're broken, or if you're using it as a primary / have an MED that means you'll be using it a lot, so need that peak performance. Only exceptions are the 1911 as it still has small mags, but should cycle through one because plastic slide is efficient, and some of the older m9 versions I've heard can be a bit rubbish.

  29. Accuracy and range is mostly a compression/hop setup thing. You need consistent "volume" output and a good hop up rubber/patch that gives consistent spin to the BB. The first can be easily addressed, it's mostly a matter of lubrication and replacement of o-rings (except for the nozzle, you may want a new one and it's an easy swap), the second is where it gets interesting: You have four parts: Hop unit; Tensioner (or nub); Hop rubber (or R-Hop patch); Inner barrel The only requirement I have for my hop units is to have a rigid hop arm (the main reason why I use Maxx units), it's more consistent and always applies the same amount of pressure. The same applies to tensioners, nowadays concave tensioners are the way to go (either embedded into the hop arm or a separate piece like the Maple Leaf Omega) since they affect a larger area on the hop rubber than regular, tube shaped ones. Hop rubbers come in all different shapes, materials and forms, it's mostly a matter of testing and finding out which one your gun likes the most, I've had good experiences with Maple Leaf Macarons. The same applies to hardness, most people like 60° rubbers, I had the best results with 70° ones. Inner barrels don't need to be fancy, they need to be clean and straight. Given that your gun is a G&G Combat Machine I would still replace the stock one as it's horrible and made of pressed tinfoil, luckily for you ZCI makes some affordable 6.02mm steel barrels that are good quality too! Generally I found that wider barrels are more consistent, but ymmv

  30. All of the following assumes that you are over the age of 18 1) You won’t be breaking the law as a RIF purchaser as your intent is to play ‘airsoft skirmishing as an insured site’ 2) JustCOS is a made up scheme. It costs you money to sign up, and it claims to provide liability insurance to Cosplayers Liability for what? Their site does not go into detail or provide copies of the policy The retailer that offered JustCos aligns/aligned with a Comicon who’s Cosplay rules forbid RIFs Cosplay is not a legitimate defence under the VCRA. However ‘professional cosplayers’ are more likely to qualify under the VCRAs theatrical defence - they get paid to turn up to comicons, and (to the best of my knowledge are a business or society carrying liability insurance, which has to be shown to the organisers*) An airsofter that cosplays can legally use their RIF for a costume, but won’t comply with comicon entry rules 3) A retailer that sells under JustCos is commiting an offence under the VCRA … UNLESS the buyer is a legitimate ‘theatrical’ cosplayer in which case they don’t need JustCos 4) An airsofter who buys JustCos to buy a RIF is commiting fraud, and potentially are conspiring with the retailer However, ultimately nobody in any power cares - until a situation occurs But members of the airsoft community care that the situation could backfire on airsoft. To date the ‘situations’ that have occurred have not been dealt with as a VCRA offence JustCos has existed for years, some retailers have been doing dodgy ‘defences’ - which is their problem if they ever get pulled and gave to produce the documentation to validate RIF sales Theres actually a different retailer in the UK that provides a tick box when you purchase - the buyer just declares that they intend to play airsoft skirmishing at an insured site. No fraud (unless the buyer lies) Complies with the wording of the law It’s the retailers problem if they are ever held to account and need to justify due diligence on their side * a while back a cosplayer came on here asking how they could buy a particular pistol as a RIF. Primarily the answer was that they can’t under cosplay status But I eventually put 2&2 together linking their posts to an celebrity impersonation / entertainer ….. they are a business, do professional appearances etc and have all the relevant business & liabilty insurance - they were able to just buy under the theatrical defence

  31. Lies. When I had the SSX I could barely get two mags worth from a single gas fill (that's 50 bbs). TM Mk23s can easily push 80/90 shots from a single fill because well, TM and tolerances and shit.
    1 point
  32. Is this a recent thing? Temperature drop means gas efficency will be down and once it gets down to single digits a lot of pistols will be next to useless. Simple answer is something Tokyo marui they have the best design/quality control and being mainly plastic they are much more gas efficient than the metal clones. If you want a 1911 the M45A1 is the most recent TM design and has very good efficiency for a single stack. I personal rate the HK45 Tactical. It's a double stack mag so large gas capacity. Grip is adjustable depending on hand size, controls are ambi, comes with a threaded barrel so can fit a pistol tracer. If you want to go cheap the AAP-01 is really good value for money and has massive after market support. They do gave a reputation for breaking though.

  35. Gotcha, Look just to be clear here, I want to do everything above board I don't want to potentially break the law hence why I'm asking these questions as someone who doesn't know to much about airsoft & would love to get into it. & for your question I recently was looking into other membership programs that fall into the defence to obtain an airsoft gun one in particular is called "JustCos" there are a number of retailers online that accept JustCos as a valid defence, I just want to make sure that I'm doing everything LEGALLY. ^^
    1 point
  36. As I said earlier, your thread was slightly unclear, & now even with clarification I don't think there's is anything that will meet all your requirements, I'm still assuming your youngest is a bit on the small side, so what may be ideal for him may be pretty shite for your needs, especially as you've previously owned some good quality kit, anything less may feel a bit "meh" when you skirmish it. Maybe a better option is for you to purchase your own dream unicorn gun, & then get a lesser, lighter knockoff copy of yours for the lad, maybe an all plastic sportline type gat, that way minime & yourself will have workable common ground training tools. Obviously what you really want is down to you, your previous experience must give you some idea on what floats your boat with regards to model aesthetics & brands ?
