    What gun to buy?

Don't go any further on that path. You won't find skirmishable gun below £100. Anything cheaper looks ok, but is actually crap. A good choice was to ask the people here because they do know what they are talking about when it comes to airsoft and will advise you to not to spend your money on unusable things. Now just listen to them. Airsoft guns shoot 6mm plastic BBs.

Yeh, avoid those like the plague if you want them for anything other than a springer shotgun or pistol - they shatter and gum up internals. They're also no way near large enough to show a mark on what you're hitting.

    What gun to buy?

Well, first some information about yourself? How old are you? (answer is either 18+ or not 18+) What country are you in? If you keep moving the goalpost, the amount you're willing to pay, even as you are educated, you may never pin anything down. Do you need an automatic weapon? Do you intend to actually play airsoft? I played my first 4 skirmishes without an automatic weapon, I have to say, with CQC at least it really is not needed - and often barred. How large is the area you intend to play in, if under 30-40m I would recommend a Tokyo Marui Glock 17 Gas Blowback Pistol. They're around £120 (with 1 mag). Gas is around £10 for 50-75 mag fills @ at least 35 shots per fill). After that you need only silicone gun oil £5, BBs £5, eye protection £25. Extra magazines are £25 for 26rd and £35 for 50rd.

  11. They are cheaper. The problem is when there is a problem. All in all, if everything is fine then it's cheaper, but if there is something wrong, it is more expensive than UK retailers. So in the long run, it's about the same price. Ordering from the EU on the other hand... that's just cheaper.

Mr B has given you a brilliant place to start, but I'd recommend diving into these (and other similar) forums for the next few days before you lay out your cash. Any decision you make now is either going to be a. Solely influenced by someone's personal recommendation or b. Misinformed. Try to do your research over the next couple of days if you can!

  13. 350 fps is the velocity limit for guns at most places in the UK (unless bolt action or semi automatic only) It is definitely not weak at all but I'm gonna assume you want to use this for shooting stuff in the garden ('plinking') and not a skirmish? Airsoft guns cannot shoot paintball ammo, they are completely different calibres. Electric...uses battery obviously, powers motor which spins gears, spring pushes piston and air into cylinder to propel BB Gas...green gas / propane is put into magazine, hammer / striker is pressed, releases gas to fire BB basically Gas is not recommended for beginners as they generally need more maintenance They are also more expensive to run and extra magazines are £35+ each Plus the performance is affected a lot more by the temperature Hope this helps

In case anyone missed it, here is a great example of what the Magnus effect (or increasing the hop) does to BB's.

    M4 V2 gearbox issues

your piston I think is full metal - presume you did aoe your gears are 13:1 you motor is high speed shs perhaps ??? now if you got that stuff all fitted together correctly you could hit 30rps with a full metal tooth piston there is no weak point to shred off plastic teeth So if Pre Engagement starts to occur - which I reckon at 30rps it could your box will either: smash f*ck out of everything - or blow the fuse if using a m90 or m100 spring then it is very likely to get to 30rps or quite near @ say 25 to 27rps but bear in mind the speed motors from shs do cycle a smidge faster than the fast torque motors so think 27rps is possible without needing thick mofo wires in there (this may be reduced if still using small tamiya and no fet etc.... but still that build is a quick build even with 7.4v) My guess if the above is not applying just yet is bevel gear shimmed too low, piston binding in box or something else putting extra strain on motor to blow fuse..... if this was your first build then I would suggest you put back the stock gears and get her running ok again then later on if you want to go quicker read up a bit on mosfet rewire deans and shortstroking perhaps 13:1 gears can make a gun cycle very quickly and over 25rps she can start to double fire... and past this on a full stroke piston and m90/100 springs you can get PE do builds/upgrades in stages - faster builds need a little more thought rather than just drop this n that go faster stuff in there I know this as I have boned numerous guns by going mental without doing my homework properly and pushing boxes too fast - way too fast many many times (plus first builds I did were a disaster as well - still learning btw)

Just for a bit of general background you may want to take a look at these: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_polymer_battery#Safety https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_polymer_battery https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-ion_battery It helps explain that the Lithium Ion battery in your phone is the same technology as the Lithium Ion Polymer battery in your gun for starters.

Yup. I got my laser cut on eBay and then just threw an o-ring in to offset it from the objective a little. I managed to unscrew the retention ring inside too so it doesn't interfere with the scope covers at all - works an absolute charm.

  27. I don't like the foregrip / flashlight combos personally, would recommend something like an Element Surefire replica / Nextorch flashlight. Also if you don't know already Tactical Gear Trade is NOT a UK retailer, in fact based in HK. I would guess you can probably find one a bit cheaper on Ali Express but I don't know.

That's what I've done with my scope, I made the perspex fit inside the flip ring & took the flap off I bought an A4 piece of perspex from my local rc shop & made 4 of them

Looks nice. Maybe a perspex sacrificial insert for the scope and remove that flip up one? They can be had for about two for £3 from eBay in whatever size you desire.

  30. My advice would be to get both separately (i.e. get a torch on a pressure switch and an RVG or something), but we're very much in the realms of personal preference here.

When it was firing what did it sound like, very whiny? Also if you remove the motor, cylinder and piston, screw the gearbox together and try to turn the gears, do they spin freely? If you haven't already, probably want to dispose of that battery, sounds like it's fried..

  35. Whatever you think is going on here, it's not. I've been chilling with a movie and $400 of flyye gear that came this morning. Funnily enough of all the things I bought, the PC is the only thing I was not excited about, thankfully it was only $110 with foam plates and only added $3 to the postage. It's the one I want but I doubt i'll use it in this season. I do a lot of research, some say too much, but I assure you all that any care I took today, such as making the battery mobile and staying within a 1m of it at all times had nothing to do with me, and only to do with where I am living, care for others. I know you both mean well, unfortunately i've read comments by others saying the same thing 10s of times on other forums. Loz, I laughed at the mobile phone comment for that reason. (no hard feelings! but I am relaxed) Now to test my AEG.

    SCAR's

The only thing that irritates me about the SCAR from G&G is how difficult it is to access the battery chamber in the stock. Having to slide the stock off each time and mess around with little pins is a PITA. However, its a lovely compact rifle, not too heavy and sits just nicely when you aim it. Its probably one of my favourites if not the favourite.

  41. My wife doesn't mind the airsofting as such but she does roll her eyes a bit when yet another delivery turns up. As long as I take her out once in a while she's fine with me doing whatever. The impending purchase of a house that'll almost double my mortgage payments may well see UK Tactical's profits drop though....

  43. My wife said recently "With all my friends they seem to be worried their husband is going to come home drunk, in the arms of some other woman or out with the lads moaning about their wives. At least with you I know you are so sad that you will just be off playing armies or doing some other sad hobby - it's quite comforting" I think that means she's generally supportive

  44. I agree. Don't draw attention to Airsoft. I very much doubt any re-opening of a discussion on Airsoft with policy makers would lead to an improvement for us - quite the opposite.

  45. I can't see any reason someone would be dubious of a level 2 holster like the IMIs or SERPAs, there's a mechanical lever that locks the gun in, there's never going to be any chance of the weapon going anywhere. All my holsters now are moulded kydex that rely on friction, tension and the shape of the plastic around the trigger guard to just grip the gun, so technically it's not actually 'locked' in there and I could understand how someone unfamiliar with a lot of modern tac gear might feel dubious of something like that initially. But even with that sort of design there's still no reason for concern, as long as the holster's built by someone who knows what they're doing. Maybe if I was dangling out of helos or parachuting I'd add a bungee cord, but that's about it.
