  1. Hi guys, So after a few posts elsewhere I thought I best pop in here and explain myself! I first looked at Airsoft back in 1999/2000 but I never got around to actually doing anything about it, I joined various mailing lists and still to this day, read the FFZ one… Does Airsoft Armouries still exist (not google yet!) Time passed ,the laws changed, girlfriend became fiancée, fiancée became wife and 2 lovely children arrived, i got fatter and as many know your priorities in life change. My brother has a stag do coming up, luckily they chose airsoft, at one fairly local, Urban Assault….so it got me back into the idea of trying again as I’ll actually be able to go J Out came the old clothing and bits I had collected a long time ago from the parents loft where it has been for a few odd years…so fairly dated!, may not use as it seems you can wear what you like, although old clothes in case of snagging, I have variations so im prepared!….didn’t realise I had two old US carry all vests and a kevlar helmet! Haha…..suppose I can get rid of them somewhere! So hopefully this will be one of many posts and I’ll see a few of you at various sites throughout the year….nearest to me is the RIFT woodland/training site but I live near Cambridge so I’ll look for a few more…..Fenland Airsoft….one near Cavenham? Ok better go, work to do!

  2. One of the things a recent post (and many others) on these forums contained was a community response and commenting on possibly overpriced goods that was to me - extremely helpful, and amusing. I have played the sport for near 10 years now, but am supremely ignorant when it comes to most things to do with RIF's. And with the continually expanding/shifting and difficult to swiftly research manufacturer landscape, I find it very hard to keep up, even if I do get a toe grip on some relevant knowledge. For example, yesterday I became aware companies called SHS/Lonex/Prometheus produce good quality stuff apparently. If the forum just closed down potentially overpriced items, or stifled discussion, I perhaps wouldn't be able to leech off other members knowledge and expertise quite as much as I can now, and I'd simply never gleam some of the things that might one day, be useful. Seeing members highlight something as possibly overpriced, especially with links to where it can be purchased like-for-like (domestically) cheaper&new is brilliant, IMO. But beyond that, a forum that allows the community to discuss and heap on the explanation as to why something is overpriced is a forum feature I would like to keep.

  3. Think I've sorted it guys, just watched probably the 8th video on this gun on youtube (8 is alot, doesnt seem to be too many on the M14) and for the first time the guy recommended, once clicking the mag in, to give it a good whack or 3 under the mag whe it comes new. First time I've seen this sort of thing suggested, but tried it, and it's now firing!!! Thank fudge for that. Such a simple thing. Thanks for your help anyways guys, even though it was something silly and basic like that, still learnt a few bits, as I said, I'm still new to airsoft, really, so i'll stick around these forums as you all seem really helpful guys. Got 9000 blaster bbs coming aswell for those who recommended them Cheers aswell @ImTriggerHappy for the PM help.

    Starting a company

The site will need Public Liability Insurance. Even if you sign a waiver you can still claim against the operator's insurance if you injury yourself, especially if the injury is life altering. Public liability is a bit of a minefield, which is why it is always recommended that businesses ALWAYS have at least Public Liability cover. It will always be advisable that a site operator seek legal advice, especially in regard to injury waivers or acceptance or risk documents to ensure they are valid and enforceable.

  10. Ive talked about these before but cant find the post despite a search. I bought a couple two years ago and had to use a bayonet frog to carry it from my belt. The knives are well made and relatively inexpensive but the makers were never interested in making/selling matching sheathes for them which was a massive letdown. Anyway, a company has started selling made to measure sheathes for your CS knife. The price isnt that bad although its dearer than the knife and ir comes out at about £30 including despatch to the UK. http://www.visiontactical.com/index.php/sheaths/cold-steel-training-knife-sheaths.html

    p90 in UK

Just get a TM the cheap ones are not very good. The P90 is one of those guns that there are very few good ones. Tm = Good G&G= ok King arms= Pot luck some good some bad. Everything else= junk If you want an SMG style gun get an MP5 cheaper, more accessories and lots of good ones to choose from TM, Ics and G&G do good ones.

  17. Ics Cxp Ape= Nice to look at build is ok nothing exciting. Krytac CRB= Good internals well built. Nothing particularly new but everything that is there is good. G&G= Lots of people like them I dont. Its the airsoft equivalent of beige its boring and nothing exciting. Ghk= Not a clue Get the Krytac new kid on the block and setting a new standard. Just change the grip because thats awful.

  22. Hehe worse than SRC is indeed a bit harsh, perhaps 'equally crepe' is kinder, they're all in the same £100 budget league that we all usually point people to ICS or G&G to get the best of. We'll get sponsorship one day, was also another post that i promoted TM HC in, my excuse is he brought it up To the OP - As for them being submachine guns, you've picked ones that have full sized internals and they'll perform just as good as any rifle sized AEG, only diff is the barrels shorter. Stuff like MP7, UMP have smaller more bespoke internals and not quite same performance, more like super-pistols. That ICS is quite good, for any ICS i'd get it from FireSupport as they've def got the best range of ICS, pretty much everything they ever made, including all the latest ranges that are a cut above

    Plate Carriers and stuff

I've been pretty lucky really. Much like the OP I bought a cheap assault vest (Miltec Molle one IIRC) and then decided I wanted a chest rig instead. Fortunately a WAS 901 with a back plate came up on ebay for £70 and I've not looked back since! Endless sales on the UKT page have kept me supplied with pretty much all the pouches I've ever needed too.

  25. Low caps - spring loaded from the top, usually upto about 40/50 rounds. Also called 'real caps' Mid Caps - Spring loaded from the top, usually as many rounds as can physically fit inside the magazine under pressure from a single feed spring, tend to be between 90 and 140 rds Hi Caps - loaded via a hatch either on top or near the top of a magazine side. Feeding is caused by winding a clockwork mechanism putting a coil spring under tension. Any mag with this style is called a 'hi cap' but capacities vary from 150-3000 rounds depending on what you choose All electric magazines are hi caps with a motor to save you having to wind the mechanism manually. Best AR type magazine on the market is ALWAYS PTS's offering. Originally the P-Mag (Emags too), then the T-Mag and now the EPM (enhanced Polymer Magazine) they're basically indestructible for all intents and purposes. Yes, they're expensive new, but second hand ones are always around and you can be pretty sure that they will function as new after a quick strip and clean (if needed)

  33. I spend a lot of my disposable income on 'Real Steel' kit, but I'm well aware it's a seriously frivolous waste and I definitely consider people who buy more sensible stuff to be more intelligent than I am in that regard. I spend easily a dozen hours per week on gear reviews, videos, web stores, contacting custom manufactures and other web stores along with my contacts in the US etc, all in order to find the best possible stuff to fit my personal needs/wants/criteria (again, serious waste of time when I could be down the gym or socialising or doing some open uni or something). However I emulate nobody as the gear that the SEALs or whoever wear is good for real combat... average at best for airsoft, IMHO. Plus I have my own rank/beret badge/unit patch etc and while it is not even 1% as cool as the SAS or whoever I would not put on sgt tabs and a para beret or commando dagger in a million years, and to my mind personally dressing like anyone else in the military is no different. But that is just me personally, what other people do is up to them.

    Plate Carriers and stuff

Welcome to airsoft. I'd say you've done just what 90%+ of everyone else that's ever gotten in to the game has done. Not that it's a bad thing, you can't know what kit you'll like until you buy and try a whole load of things, there's no way around that realistically. I do wish some people (speaking generally here) would avoid some of the really low end market-stall level tat gear though, because some stuff out there (we're talking full plate carrier + pouch sets in the $40 sort of region) is so atrocious you may as well roll up that cash and f*****g smoke it. I get why people buy the more basic stuff to start with, who wouldn't unless they're a millionaire? It makes sense to look before you leap as you might just find you don't like the game after a little while. But you'll seriously not like it if your rig rips, tears, sheds pouches, pokes you with bits of plastic and wires and falls apart after 2 games. Even worse are the retailers who peddle the really low end vest for like £80+, I've seen Viper cross-draws for nearly £100. There is worse than Viper out there, but the prices on kit that some airsoft specific stores charge is insaaaaane. Not only is it generally BS overall, but you're just straight up tricking the customer in to thinking they're buying something fairly high end, when it simply isn't. You can buy Warrior PCs for less than a lot of the airsoft-quality rigs sold by RIF retailers and I would use WAS stuff for real any day. Flyye is great for airsoft, but I would not trust my life to it. Gear is like everything, I see people throw away money on such rubbish when it comes to eye pro, chest rigs and holsters etc. If you want, you can actually go out and spend a lot of money on gear made out of sh*tty materials that's been sewn using sub-standard thread by a person who's got no idea how to sew gear together. Or you can most likely spend less money and start off with a solid, simple, effective rig like this: http://www.flecktarn.co.uk/sdtmb6nx.html Or this: http://www.uktactical.com/p-7530-warrior-light-assault-rig-coyote-tan.aspx Which will abso-bloody-lutely guaranteed last longer than you want to keep it for before you sell it and move on to the next flashy/shiny new toy. I do blame a lot of the airsoft retailers in many cases. We're not a nation with a military or firearms culture in general, 99.9% of the population are not going to realise it's a good idea to look further than the little 'vest' link underneath the 'SMGs' link at their preferred airsoft retail site. If those stores wanted to do right by their customers they'd learn about how good gear is made and stock stuff that is genuinely high quality and cost effective, not stuff that looks good on a website but is of utterly obsolete design (which is most often the case) and often of comparatively shoddy construction in general on many occasions. But anyway I could rant about that for a long time. FAO the lurkers reading this - Buy decent stuff. Something isn't 'cheap' if it breaks on you right away and you have to buy another one. Something's 'cheap' if it lasts you years and years of hard usage and performs well throughout that time.

I have the G&G SCAR L and it's great. Whether or not it's "best" is subjective but mine's great. I have added a BTC mosfet which has drastically improved the trigger response though.

  38. The 2 main sites that I play at are awa herts and red 1 CQB. Awa herts is the most friendly and well organised sites that are around in my opinion. They have a on site tech guy who will sort out any problems for you. They allow you to use grenade/ smokes etc. they even have a small shop where you can buy different grenades, smokes, bbs and gloves ( you have to be over 18 to buy them but not use them). Their playing site is huge! To get to the other side of the site which used to be a paintball site it is a good 5-10 minute walk. The FPS limit for AEGs is 360fps and for snipers who are over 18 it is 500 with a minimum engagement distance. Red 1 CQB is a old school and it is a really good cbq site. There are many different rooms that you have to clear tactically over 3 floors. It also has 2 out side playgrounds where most games start. Last time I went a guy pretty much brought a whole shop to the site where he sold different gear and gun accessories. Red 1 is also a airsoft shop so they bring brand new guns that you can buy. In my opinion I think that dragons lair is such a bad site that I will never go again lol. It is only 2 playing areas that are not that big and after a couple of hours it gets really boring so I wouldn't recommend it

  42. Just a pair of glasses and mess tins bungied on covering your privates makes you a better player. You learn not to get hit lots quicker .

  43. Well you've got a choice of Mesh goggles, lens goggles or airsoft approved glasses (I use lens goggles & airsoft glasses) Then you've got a mesh lower mask (I use them) or full face mask (either a paint ball mask or an airsoft mask) If your under 18 then every site requires by law to wear full face protection but of over 18 then it's players choice but I always recommend full face protection EBay ones are decent & hold up well

  44. Thanks for the posts and guides guys much appreciated ! I'm just sort of stuck as to what eye protection and mouth visor to buy! As I know there are pros and cons with every product I was just wondering what you lot would you as a general rule of thumb ? I was thinking about getting goggle just for the extra safety but obviously clouding up can be a problem while I've heard mesh ones aren't too great either ?! Also what sort of mouth visor would people recommend as if rather buy from a store or Amazon than just something dodgy off eBay!

Ouch... in that case find another site to skirmish at! Even though airsoft can result in small injuries there should still be at least public liability insurance in place. You basically sign a waiver to say that you accept certain risks, etc. This is as ludicrous as sites who don't provide adequate first aid cover, and I have even heard of sites suggesting teams have their own first aiders...

  47. Be hard to draw the line, even if you said nothing above retail value, it'd just turn every £200+ M4 sale into a big argument of the OP listing every single little bit they replaced for 30-50 a time. Agree that you just have to leave people to make their own mistakes or apply their own sense of worth. Zero In should let people reply to sales threads perhaps, think over here the current rules, monty's eagle eyes and occasional troll back-up does the required job swimmingly
