Talk me out of it? (New gun)

Since I started playing airsoft away last year, I've had a bit of a lust for a Winchester Mare's Leg (as used by the lovely Zoë in Firefly/Serenity). I've found out that there are two versions of this gun available for airsoft. The KTW is a springer, shoots around 220fps and has a ~15 round mag, which you can apparently get more of for quick reloading. This is normally made of wood effect plastic and metal. Although I think you can sometimes buy it with a wood kit. The other is from A&K and is gas powered. all metal and wood. Shoots around 330-360 on green gas apparently. Has an internal mag which holds ~20 bbs. Comes with a "special loading tool" to refill the mag, but I suspect a speed loader will do the job too(?) So, anyone got one? Had a shot of one? Thoughts? I like them both, although would prefer one with real wood. The lack of sights doesn't bother me, I mostly shoot by eye as it is. I'd probably use it indoors most of the time (in buildings at local outdoor site, at The Depot etc) but possibly for short range outside games too, using it as a primary with my mk23 as a back up! To my knowledge I've not shot any KTW or A&K guns, what are peoples thoughts on them as manufacturers? Does one have any better quality control than the other? The A&K is currently in stock in a few places (after being out of stock for months). The KTW I can't see in stock anywhere, but have pinged off a few emails to see about availability. I was trying to hold of buying any more guns this year, as I'm trying to save for a house. But... well... it's only money isn't it?

To be fair I invested a good 20 minutes talking you into it in the kitchen just now, plus easily the same by text earlier. I think I did good... I sure as hell don't have any regrets!

    Testing BBs

OK so this is the latest BB testing update. Sorry that the BBs tested are all Proball thanks to Lewis from Socom Tactical for the samples. The normal Proballs get darker as they increase in weight and seemingly harder to shatter. The Proball Bio BBs are whiter for the same weight but shatter easier and into slightly smaller pieces but not as many or as small as the Nuprol BBs. The slight out of roundness I am sure is from the sheer marks from the injection process which leaves a pin prick crater I have to use a strong magnifier glass to see. Need other brave manufacturers to send me their BBs for testing or have you been scared off for fear of not doing well... [individual scores = 10 is the best and 1 is the worst]

    Fear Masters Wakefield

Went along to their open day yesterday (12th August 2018) and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Haven’t been to a site for 15 years as only just getting back into Airsoft but thought I’d offer my opinion; booking again so will be able to further add to the review. There were about 40 players which I thought was a good turn out for a random and usual open day - not sure if that’s typical? Really well equipped site and great facilities. Best toilets I’ve ever seen at a venue, good shop, plenty of kit to purchase, some hot food (microwave stuff) available for purchase and plenty of places to store kit in the dry. They also utilise a quad and trailor to transport your kit about should you need it. As I’m only just getting back into airsoft I hired an AEG which was a Nuprol G36 - all of them were well maintained and looked after. I got a jam and they couldn’t swap me the gun quick enough so I could get straight back into the fray. That brings me then onto the staff - very professional, very very approachable and friendly and extremely safety conscious. I would actually say a little too safety conscious and the constant reminders to clear guns, put all weapons on floor and then brief for each game, followed by more safety reminders was a little too much and ate into possible game time but would rather have them that way than the opposite I suppose! Just feel a bit quicker turnarounds would have resulted in about 30mins more gameplay. The games themselves were were pretty good, they’ve obviously put a lot of thought into a few of them and a lot of them I imagine to be adaptable so you could go a few times in a year and play different games. There are ALOT of things to hide behind and work your way through and this created plenty of opportunities to hold down a section to then get caught at a different angle making games quite filled with anticipation by not knowing where going to be attacked from. There are also a few fairly unique features such as ‘The Trench’ and a building that is PITCH black and very confined - this was a particular scary moment especially considering I’ve not taken a BB for years, never mind one that I couldn’t see from 4 yards! This is also sort of the site’s downfall - there are a few too many fortifications and whatnot to hide behind which made it a bit more paintball like stand and shoot, hide, stand and shoot - taking a few of these out and creating a bit more space would allow more chance to have to move and press attacks - with there been so much that obscured your view but protect you it meant that both sides effectively dug in and just kept shooting - it wasn’t worth making an attempt to move forward as it often came down to who had the most/best sort of cover. Highly recommend this site, especially if there’s a group of you as a cohesive unit could really get some fire and movement manoeuvres in and there’s lots of elements to test yourselves in. Pros: excellent staff safety facilities organised Good shop and things available to buy Cons slow turnarounds too much cover Again really enjoyed it and recommended - will have more to compare it to in the next 2 months.

The trick worked. Purchased my first RIF and some accessories from there on Sunday night. Was told to make some changes by a friend on Monday morning at which point I phoned them up and made some changes including a deans connection and the whole order was then delivered Tuesday morning. Great service and would highly recommend.

Ah, I'd just found that. Well, a gentleman never takes advantage of a lady - especially when he's stone broke at the moment. I reckon I'd have to fight my way through the crowd. It might not be hugely practical, but it's a thing of beauty.

Late to the party but hay ho ! My son has the full length A&K Winchester and it’s awsome ! 😍 cracking range on it and has a lovely smooth action when your racking it . The loader is a specific one too it , you can load it with a normal rod speedloader but it’s a right pain in the arse to do it .

The only reason I'd give is that you might buy the last one, then I wouldn't be able to get it. If they're anywhere close in price then I'd go for the A&K every time. Just out of interest, who has it in stock?

The silver KTW looked really lame and toy-like last time I saw one, and was surprised when I saw the cost... I also tried a springer one (Might have also been KTW) and the lever was stiff enough to be super un-fun

Talk me out of it? (New gun)

@Arwen in that case, I say go for it! I use ‘normal’ GBBR’s and getting a kill with one is much more satisfying than with an AEG, so getting kills with that will feel great. It’s properly cool too, I’ve only ever seen 2 in a few years of playing. The good thing about the gas one is you could run it on abbey 144 in the summer if needs be to keep it below the limits, and if you wanted to use it in December, just throw some green gas/ propane in it and it will chug along all winter too. Because the action is cycled manually, all of the gas goes to shooting the B.B. so it should be nice and efficient like the mk23

Talk me out of it? (New gun)

Out of the two, I’d go for the A&K. Being gas, the lever action will be smooth and light, meaning if you wanted to do all of that fancy spinning stuff, it would be possible. The external finish is much nicer too. I’ve not owned one, but a guy at my site has one and it’s quite nice. The FPS is also an advantage, and because it isn’t blowback, weaker gas could be used where required. The spring one being 220 FPS tells me that they needed to make it that weak to allow the average person to ‘rack’ it efficiently. It’s not like a bolt action where you have all your arm, shoulder and back muscles to help, you just push it out with the outside of your hand/fingers. Now in terms of practicality, both of them will be abysmal compared to a normal AEG/gbbr. It’s essentially a single shot shotgun with a tiny ammo capacity and difficult and slow reload. That being said, it’s very cool. If you think you can get on with it, go for it and get some awesome kills.

Potentially blind firing like a cockwomble then. You can only look down one sight once you move your arms a few degrees apart.

how to make your cm16 raider lighter

Take all that gopping tape off, that'll save a few kilos. Ditch the torch or move it further back onto the handguard, the further forward the weight is, the more you'll feel it.

Can you put up a photo of it Liam? That way we know what we're working with. Or just crack on with making this
  29. 1 point
the fully polymer version? because that's as lightweight as you're realistically going to be able to make an m4. there are some things you can do to a full metal gun, for a start ditch any pointless accessories, if you don't need it don't have it on the gun, then replace the front handguard with polymer (either old school colt or more modern like a magpul moe style, whatever takes your fancy), then replace the buffer tube style stock either with a skeletonised deal or an m16 style (looks bulky but it's hollow and light) if it's front wired then maybe rear-wire it, it won't make the gun any lighter but a better balanced gun can feel lighter than it really is. otherwise you're talking about going really extreme pulling the stock off entirely and really shortening the barrel firehawk style. on the field a decent sling can save you effective weight, give your arms a break, but apart from that all you can do is just a bit of weightlifting to solve the problem from the other direction (this is why all my guns are full weight because i cba going to the gym)
  30. 1 point
I dont think you'll be able to make it lighter and still be able to shoot. a raider is 2kg according the web, its full plastic already, so im sure it must be one of the lightest m4's on the market.. you can try to remove the buttstock and get a smaller handguard? just looked up a smaller sized mp7 weight which is also 1.9kg. my metal m4 is about 2.6kg for comparison.

After giving my ASG a thorough lubing, particularly along the slide arms that run from the pump handle back to the spring, it is a good bit slicker. Without a stock, it's your trigger arm that takes the strain, not the pump hand as you might expect. I'd stress the importance of cocking it in a single committed motion: tug on it like you mean it.

    Getting back into the sport

Game Cam, to be honest, that’s how we used to do it, one of us would always ensure our UKARA was in order and we’d get stuff delivered to whoever had the most recent application as none of us ever knew who was registered and who wasn’t. I remember buying at Wolf in Camden and the guy wasn’t exactly happy about it, hence why I was wondering why no-one had launched a true membership scheme that’s managed by the player over the site/shops - The BAC seem to have the right idea, but as Rogerborg pointed out, it’s about trust I suppose, although I’m not sure how the £300 shop fee for UKARA outlets inspires trust, so there must be something in the background. I believe they have interests in a few of the larger retailers. Zero1 comes to mind. I’ve shot an email over to UKAPU to see where they are at and if they’d be interested in having a coder develop something a bit more of an open framework. Thanks Keldon - I used to play the odd game at TechBrigade but if there’s something on my doorstep that’s not too commercial, then I’m all in so will take a look.

Some people did not have the program to open the XLS so have done the above. As you can see nothing touches the G&G BBs for roundness or polish. I am going to have a lot of new BBs to test shortly & update, but have just purchased a bulk order of Proballs from Socom Tactical to use in my guns. I would buy G&G if cost was not an issue.
