I definitely prefer variety over having a few extremely expensive guns. I've built up rather a lot of decent (enough) performers - most of which are on the budget end of the spectrum, but feel solid enough, look the part, and achieve good accuracy and range (especially if I've successfully tweaked them). I just enjoy having a variety of historic guns, smgs, long rifles, a few pistols, a single sniper etc. If I was purely going for outright performance on every game morning, I'd only ever select a particular lightweight HPA DMR build that I have, and an AAP with a great hop inside. But in reality, I get a lot of pleasure from simply rotating through all my variety of AEGs, my four HPA options, and swapping between my pistols for secondary. Unless I'm having an off day, I usually achieve a roughly similar favourable kill/killed ratio irrespective of whether I have my 'worst' performing gun in my hands. It's the same for my clothing/kit - I derive an odd amount of pleasure from wearing what I might view as 'interesting' patterns - plain olive, classic tiger stripe, partizan, and the more mainstream but annoyingly effective MC Tropic. I'd rather have a variety of comfortable, functional, robust yet cheaper gear that I cycle between to keep things interesting for me, than a single set of uber expensive e.g. crye kit.3 points -

I do my best to achieve cost neutrality with my Airsoft expenditure... Well, kind of. I relentlessly hammer my train company for delay repay, and all the compensation is paid into my PayPal account (cough, toy fund), which is then spent on the next Airsoft purchase once it builds to the requisite amount. It makes all those waits on overcrowded trains just that little bit more bearable...3 points -

The silliness continued at Red Mist 5 this weekend gone, the guys put together this great rules training film in the style of a British Army training video from the 80s before the event. If you want to get involved, the next game will be at Gunman Eversley Alpha in March 2025 with a further game at Gunman Free Fire Zone in Oct/November. I used to pick up boneyard AEGs of different varieties such as a FAMAS, L85A1, AUG, P90 etc because it helped me learn how to fix stuff myself and was a cheap way to have a larger variety of RIFs but I recently slimmed down my collection by five or six RIFs to fund my move into HPA. I think i've only ever bought two RIFs at retail - A Krytac LVOA-C and G&G L85A2. As for kit, it's pretty much the same. My helmet, eye/face protection, gloves and clothing are probably the only things I bought new - just about everything else has come from the forums, ebay or selling sites. Pyro is where I expend a fair amount of cash (outside of BBs) just because I like things that go bang. I'd use my BFGs more often but I don't want to lose them when outdoors2 points -

I've just become a member of the MP5 Owner's Club, so here's my rather dull pic of my gat. It's purchased from the Classified's at a sensible price for a Secutor (which is probably an Ares under the skin, but I've seen that different manufacturers do different models, so this might actually be something else. One crosses one's fingers, doesn't one?) The externals are pretty good for a full polymer RIF, and it's wanged some BB's to the end of the garden quite accurately, so happy with it so far! Setup - Acetech Blaster C for tonight's CQB shenanigans, and with a Cyma fixed stock and old school foregrip supplied with the gnu. It'll be enough for me to see how I get on with the MP5 scenario in the field... as long-term I'll be looking for a Classic Army full-metal, or maybe a TM or a VFC GBB variant. It certainly feels very handy, and I'm already enjoying the Die Hard vibes very muchly. The decent news for any wannabe MP5 owners is that two mags sit very nicely in my polymer shell M4 mag holders (hence the inclusion in the pic). So I don't currently feel the need to invest in a new chest rig or alternative belt setup.2 points -
That is correct as airguns where already covered by the 1967 Fireams Act when the VCRA came into being. So despite some guns being available as airsoft guns and airguns with the only difference being ammo fired and velocity. despite them being more powerful thus dangerous airguns do not need a defence. As I said UK Firearms law is a mess.2 points

Nobody has mentioned that for less of a price, one could build something to the same spec minus the engravings etc. Even more so once you factor in the astronomical import fees op would be hit with.2 points

Its highly unlikely customs will chrono it. The main problems are that its stupidly expensive and if there is any problems with it he has no comeback as he will be unable to return it to company in US without getting an import licence ( 16 CFR part 1272 ) from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. I know this as I am currently trying to do this having had a package sent back to me by Royal Mail and refused by UPS. Just do as I have previously said by a decent quality gun from a trusted UK retailer and go from there.2 points

It's all a mess the hole system needs revamping. Sadly if they ever do get round to it, it will probably only turn out to be bad news for the shooting sports. They will invariably take the opportunity to ban or make it harder to get some items.2 points

One of the things I like about our hobby is that folk can choose to spend as little or a much as they like without a huge gap in performance. Whether you like them or not a large part of this is down to the Chinese clones getting better quality, a great example of this is magazines, 20 years ago a single AEG magazine was around £30. It's from a neurotransmitter called Dopamine. https://www.webmd.com/mental-health/what-is-dopamine1 point -

Most guys have an expensive hobby of some sort. Airsoft isn't the most expensive one out there. I'm with Poncho in that I prefer a variety of cheaper/bargain toys rather than spending a lot on one or two great performers. I am now more of a collector than a player and I regard my toys as an investment. Gear/costumes are also easy to exchange. (got rid of most of my stuff when I realised I prefer going light)1 point -

Well its the first thread i wanna say sth. hahaha As for me, cost always happened in 3 perspectives. I love both expensive or cheap guns and gears if it like me feel "worth" . Like GHK 74M with full magpul furniture and upgraded may cost £1000. Specna Arms core cheaper than £100 second hand, Ori lindnerhof stuffs (yeah im a flecktarn favor) or panda studio £10 G3 pants replica. But I also happy to try some expensiveparts for upgrade... as Maxx hop, PDI and Sonlink brushless motors and sth else.... But as a professional auditor have to say sth that cost are different with expense. I believe that bought high price guns could never made your money say good bye to you but just change a style (😁) The thing that really hurts is shipping cost and inboard tax. I bought a VFC 417 GBB from HK and the extra expense totally over £200😭. moreover, repairing is another "high cost" thing. I totally spent over £ 300 in different airsoft studios. And at now my NGRS scar's mosfet was gone and may I need to spend more £150 for a new Titian. Oh, one more thing, especially for those who are single. A roomful of tactical gear and toy guns, as well as the occasional day-long run in the wilderness to get covered in mud, is always going to make your Mrs complain. It's time to prepare gifts such as lipstick or makeup to help you "survive" at home👍1 point -

Airsoft guns are air weapons?
Rogerborg reacted to Pseudotectonic for a topic
The practice of loaning the rental to the parent/guardian, rather than the kid, may be just to cover any potential repair or replacement costs. Waiver can be useful for catching some responsibilities in a case of negligence. And it would be rather convenient if the site only needs to deal with the parent/guardian at the reception for the rental and waiver forms. For s 24(4)(b) "to part with the possession", yeah it doesn't actually matter whether the parent or the site is doing the "parting", because the kid will be supervised regardless therefore perfectly legal. But loaning to the parent might give the site an extra layer of defence in an astronomically unlikely prosecution. "We didn't give it to the kid, we gave it to the parent, see this rental form, and then the parent gave it to the kid" Although in reality the RIF is probably handed to the kid directly (which is almost impossible to prove). So the rental form can perhaps give the site operator a very tiny assurance in relation to this offence. The supervision will have to be by the refs (who has to be 21+). The whole purpose of supervision (for the Act) seems to be s 23(1) to make sure no missile goes beyond the premise. But, actually, maybe there is entirely no need for s 23(1) supervision, because there is s 23(3): if the kid is over 14, he can have with him the air weapon on private premises with consent of the occupier (i.e. the site). This should free up the 21+ requirement for refs, although they will still be responsible for beyond premise shots under s 21A(1A) because they are supervising on private premise (sharing responsibility with the kid I suppose, who also committed offence, because the kid cannot offload the offence via s 23(1) any-premise-supervision). And if the kid is under 14, then he needs the supervision. There is no provided age-related defence for the supervisor in a shooting beyond premise offence, like the "parting with possession" offence has a defence of reasonable ground of belief of the person is over 18. So they will have to just make sure everyone under or above 18 is not shooting beyond premise. Which would be an offence for an 18+ player to do anyway. There is a defence for everyone that is if the other premise the BB went into had given general consent, so if the site had spoken to their neighbours prior then perhaps this can be sorted, with some sort of private arrangement. Nonetheless all these are exceedingly unlikely, and only if airsoft is not excluded from air weapon, which I think is still very debatable. The more I look at Firearms Act, the more it reads like air weapon is considered a type of firearm therefore would exclude airsoft. And that the s 57A airsoft exclusion is broad general exclusion from the entire Act which I think was the intention. And that the two definitions of air weapon and airsoft within Firearms Act would seem incompatible, because air weapon typically fire metal bullets, while airsoft is exclusively plastic pallets, and forms its own separate ballistic category within Firearms Act. The fact that they all use air, or has the word air-, is irrelevant next to the legal definitions; they all use metal bodies too, but mere similarities cannot be the reason one type is another. My point is, "an air rifle, air gun or air pistol (key words from the Act)" and "airsoft" cannot be understood to be the same thing, or one type can also be another; the former has certain calibres of metal pallets (as a matter of fact), the latter has certain calibres of plastic pallets (as a matter of legal definition), they are of entirely different constructions, they have entirely different uses, therefore the two categories, as legally defined, and as intended by the Act, should not overlap. Phew. (Although airsoft can still be imitation firearms, because of appearance.) One can go on to argue, if there is a spring powered airsoft that uses a 24 inch (~ 600 mm) smooth bore barrel and only has one manual loading BB slot, it would fit the definition of shot gun within Firearms Act (even a better fit than "air weapon"), but of course that particular airsoft spring rifle would still be airsoft and not a shot gun. And that shot gun would be still firearm. The exact same logic should apply to air weapon. The mere fact that some air weapon is technically not firearm should be irrelevant for the purposes of Firearms Act, which airsoft is excluded from. In the cases of shot gun vs air weapon vs airsoft, where the legal definitions are unclear, conventional "common sense" understanding of these classifications should apply, or at least takes priority over minor technicalities. (I am not entire sure. Googling statutory interpretation now...)1 point -

It's a strange one. I would think carefully about buying a £1,500 rif, but nearly as hard about buying 3 pistols at £200 and 2 aeg's at £600 in the space of a year. But i also now tend to look in the "higher-end" spectrum of stuff, and would rather buy at a higher price point for better quality unless there is a reason not to. Like i would use a Crye PC over a chinesium version due to build quality, fitment and so on. But still use £20 weapon lights as its a bulb on a battery and I don't see there being a £ to quality improvement for the 4 minutes it's on during a game.1 point -

They'll take your money, big money 💰, wherever you are, one example in the drop down currency menu is Australia, where ironically, airsoft is still illegal in all states.......imagine the op is an aussie, takes the plunge & orders, after all it must be alright because surely the site wouldn't give me the price in aussie dollars otherwise, only to have it confiscated by customs & gets a big fine in the process, I'm sure realdealairsoft.com will put their hands up & say "soz, our bad, here's your full refund" Not😏1 point

It's interesting the things that people justify to themselves - myself included. I was a PTW owner my first time around and I am again now for when it's too cold for my GBBRs. Dry firing is a big mood killer for me, can't quite explain why. I've always seen the value in RS optics (or the posh repro ones now available) as cheapo airsoft ones seem to lose zero instantly and it does my head in. Same for holsters (they're cheap compared to replacing pistols), ear defenders (cheap compared to ears) and eye pro (cheap compared to eyes). But lots on plate carriers/helmets etc has always gone over my head. Ps. If you think you might trim down @Impulse let me know if a gas sniper rifle is on the cards. I've wanted a nice one since I played alongside Doc and his Tanaka at LFU.1 point -

I'm more prone to spend a lot on guns, so doing a £2k MTW build including all the real-steel external bits isn't a stretch but it is my most expensive build for sure; most of my gun builds tend to be under just under £1000ish, maybe just over if a GBBR because those mags are expensive, and pistols tend to be around £300 - £400 as I tend to obsess over my guns and tweak them as perfectly as I can. But when it comes to other gear I don't have any night vision or thermal stuff, I tend to buy scopes from Aliexpress (expensive ones there for £250ish, but nothing like real-steel optics as I don't think they're needed), my ghillies are all crafted for cheap and while I like to buy decent quality load bearing kit (and have to because cheap stuff just isn't designed for 6'5 people), my Warrior Assault Systems stuff isn't too expensive in the grand scheme of things. I think my plate carrier setup probably totals to just over £300ish, belt kits were probably about £150 each as I have one for standalone and one for with a plate carrier or chest rig. Outside of that, my two split chest rigs were definitely sub £100 each as they're Condor with mostly 8fields pouches. That said, I am considering selling just over half of my gun collection since I don't use a lot of it... I counted up today and it turns out I have 41 guns including pistols, and I think I actually use about 19 of them, 7 of which are pistols because most of my other guns that I use regularly have MEDs1 point -

For what it's worth, Western Arms sued/did legal stuff to TM over Berettas as WA held the Beretta licence in Japan. TM still make Berettas, they just can't have accurate trades. No more Glock trades is the most likely outcome I think here if this is not just a storm in teacup and everyone is freaking out over unsubstantiated rumours with nothing to back them up with. I believe there's a hobby trade show in Japan next month that TM attend so that could be interesting.1 point -

I have managed to be very frugal over the years, but I think the amount of time I've actually spent playing means it works out as tremendously expensive. I've got much better value for money from my two £400-500 guitars than I have with any of my boneyard specials. However, I get a certain level of intangible joy from having toy guns knocking around...
