  1. I'd guess the stronger spring and 11.1 were too much for a standard shell. You probably had a poor air seal so compensating with a heavier spring is not the way to go. Personally I would never use an 11.1 in a standard gearbox but I hate high rof builds anyway. 😉

  2. I think i missed a trick when I bought my black ones, white shows off the RIFs much better. I suppose the pragmatic solution is to paint my RIFs white.

  4. Rough'ish, just waiting on lots of stuff to arrive but with Chinese holidays round the corner might be slow going. So a good time to work on new website and do some product design stuff that I've been meaning to get around to. Really want to stock some decent well priced qd gearbox shells but the age old problem is compatibility and availability. Trying hard though to work with existing suppliers to make a few adjustments.

  10. Happy New year chaps and chappesses. Got back from the land of the little people so feeling a bit zoned out. Thought I'd have a look at my beloved Specna as it sounded awful last game day and wasn't feeding. Was hoping it was the tappet spring again but no: So that's Donald Ducked. The two spare boxes i have dont quite fit for different reasons, so off to Cage Airsoft it goes for dealing with it (wiring harness is fecked too). Looking forward to a skirmish day, but Spec Ops isn't open until Feb, so maybe South Herts or AWA. Hope everyone had a good break?

  16. The Ultimate Gearbox is a Lonex rebrand, very nice part but no QD spring sadly. Orion probably best bet but quite high with the shipping from EU etc. Delta Armoury looks good enough and decent price.

  17. I guess it’s a little too far gone to just tape it back together 🥲 all part of the fun of airsoft; something always needs replacing or repairing!

  18. Just chiming in my experience with handling this gun: it doesn't taking modding very well. The plastic piston head will break if you put anything more than a m110 in it and the gearbox is a bit swiss cheese as it is concerningly easy to file down. The hop unit is also somewhat propietary as the bb tube is placed a bit closer to the gearbox compared to other aftermarket units which can create feeding and fps issues. Currently, i'm havng issues with getting a perun to work in it (because precock), likely due to the sensor positioning as the screw holes are slightly off spec, and you also have to file down a circular screw holder because it gets in the way. The piston is not resetting in the same position every time, leading to feeding issues, firing a BB once every 3/4 shots which is unuseable. All in all, it's good for the price and it performs well but only if you don't mess with the gearbox as it's really only rated for what it can already handle.

  19. Most likely. They really are not very good. I bought a couple a few years ago when they were being touted as the "new best thing"; they weren't.

  21. Spring, shimming and air seal were done at the same time as repairing it when the tappet spring went pop. So a case of too much at once. 😪 Indeed, once basic upgrades, then essential repairs are added up, there's a shiny new TM in there somewhere - but then it wouldn't be airsoft, and this is my first pew. So there is a bit of sentimental value there too. Thinking back, not much needed doing to the gun out of the box bar shimming, and air seal. Once operational again, I might try the OEM spring again and see just how much the shim and seal would have done on it's own.

  22. This is why TM have always been so reliable, stock they don't aim to be the most powerful, nor the highest rate of fire, in return they virtually never self destruct, instead they just keep doing what their supposed to. There a lesson in there somewhere 😏

  34. I wouldn't use anyone except those two, which is why they have such long waiting lists, which is why I wouldn't use them. It's a self-causing / self-solving problem. If it's for a specific gun it might be best to mention it, as any Sklyar can mess up an M4, but some techs specialise in messing up GBBR or HPA builds.

    Tell Us a Gag. Please!

An old Finnish joke about the Winter War: A large group of Russian soldiers in the border area in 1939 are moving down a road, when they hear a voice call from behind a small hill: "One Finnish soldier is better than ten Russians". The Russian commander quickly orders 10 of his best men over the hill where a gun-battle breaks out and continues for a few minutes, then silence. The voice once again calls out: "One Finn is better than one hundred Russians." Furious, the Russian commander sends his next best 100 troops over the hill and instantly a huge gun fight commences. After 10 minutes of battle, again silence. The calm Finnish voice calls out again: "One Finn is better than one thousand Russians!" The enraged Russian commander musters 1000 fighters and sends them to the other side of the hill. Rifle fire, machine guns, grenades, rockets and cannon fire ring out as a terrible battle is fought... Then silence. Eventually one badly wounded Russian fighter crawls back over the hill and with his dying words tells his commander, "Don't send any more men... it's a trap. There are two of them!"

  45. I spent some time today working on my Magpul/Ares Masada and was moaning commenting about some of the appalling design decisions, including the ambidextrous selectors; my son then asked why I have three Ares rifles if I hate them so much. The answer is simple: they make some unusual and beautiful RIFs. As Egon_247 noted, their gearboxes are wonderfully over engineered and as robust as a Russian warship.
