After being too impatient to wait to find a specna, I opted for the S&T G36V with the grenade launcher (Because why not?). Changed out the launcher with the mg handguard, put a ZCI dual optic on (After a lot of sanding down, it doesn't fit directly onto the S&T) and can now call the MG36 done.5 points -

So this 👆is the fruit of my labour. I'm going to post a bunch of pics I took during the build and put a parts list together to bore you all with, but today was about getting it onto the range to see what it could do. A couple of weeks ago, as an out-of-the-box M4A1 Carbine, it was hitting out to 60m on .28g BBs and Ultrair, with a good degree of accuracy, which, for me means hitting a Figure 11, roughly centre-mass, at that distance. Made me smile, and smile and smile. Today, testing this iteration was, well, a huge disappointment. Although the range was like-for-like on .28s and green gas, I just could not get any consistency in shots. One would go straight as a die, resulting in a nice metallic 'clink' off the target. The next would fall short, barely half the distance, then another would fuck off into the stratosphere. Adjusting the hop made very little difference to the randomness of the shots. The only internal changes I made were a different Zet plate (which worked brilliantly) an enhanced nozzle return spring and a different hop nub, all by BavTac. I can only assume that, while replacing the hop nub, either the nub or hop rubber is not sitting squarely. Adding weight to this theory is the fact that, with the can on, BBs were shattering before leaving the barrel, or dribbling out like it had a prostate problem. Any other thoughts on root cause before I whip the tools back out? On the plus side, chucking in .3s and .32s, still with regular green gas, when a shot did go straight, it was heading to the 70m target, so I'm hopeful that when I get this sorted, it'll be chucking white plastic death out to decent distances. Oh, and IMHO it looks gorgeous. Yes, it's another URG-I, but it's still a handsome beast. Gas testing will have to wait. I now have 8 variants to try in the name of science...and bored curiosity.3 points

My thoughts exactly Wavey. Hoping it is that simple. Can't imagine it's anything else as, mechanically everything else I touched seems to be working fantastically. I won't deny having sex fingers though, that have a tendency to fuck everything they touch, so you never know 😂 On my other MWS I don't remember .32s doing that well, but I think I should give them another chance based on today's trial. What hop/barrel set-up are you using to get those results? And of course, which gas? (The Vorsk cans arrived today so I'm ready to test, once I sort the hop issue)2 points -
"comes in a custom made display case" I cringe when people go on about something being "custom made" in that context as if that makes it worth more money. The custom-made case was made for his tastes and requirements so he paid for the labour and the sentimental value. That doesn't mean it's worth much to Joe Public. I would like to know the thought process or the smack required to mark up the value so much.2 points

Thanks for all the responses guys. @Nick G UPS has already sent me the amount owed for import duties £200+ but I expect this will be higher as they charge £13 a day by the time it finally gets processed. I think you're right with regards to the address and UKARA not matching potentially being part of the problem. My thinking at the time was if it was sent to my work address (That imports 100s of Airsoft RIFs and parts every month) it would be less of an issue and also with the item being a RIF not left outside at home or at a collection point whilst I was at work, a more responsible decision. I have contacted the courier but as of yet had little help from them, will try again on Monday. @Pseudotectonic Attached is the form I was sent along with a RIF declaration (which was easy enough to fill in). @Asomodai @C-Diddy fingers crossed then otherwise this will have been a very expensive lesson. I did ask the sender to include in the package my home address (image from an invoice from my place of work) alongside my UKARA and image of my Passport but they would have to open it to get that I guess. @Tommikka well hopefully they are just busy and just haven't gotten round to sorting it but I believe as pointed out the UKARA address mismatch is probably the problem. I'm just stressing abit as it was quite an expensive purchase and worried it will get destroyed. Thanks for all your help everyone, hopefully I can get it resolved this week coming.2 points

Realised I had the parts to make something interesting. For your consideration: an alt-history Olive Drab AR-15 Dissipator build. Imagine the chopped short M16s from the Vietnam-era became standard issue all the way to the A4 variant. Then make it a lovely military-ish green. Recently a real steel Dissipator (that's an AR-15 with a 16 inch barrel and a full rifle-length gas system) was released for sale by Anderson Arms, and this video popped up on my YouTube feed. I really love the full-length-but-shorter look of a Dissipator, and I think sticking on an A2 handguard and a full stock makes it look a lot more military than the Magpul equivalents I had on it previously. What do you think?2 points

Looking good! Nothing wrong with a URG-I 😁 I tried to run my MWS on 0.28g today but even with the hop “off” they were skying at 30m! Purchased a bottle of Vorsk 0.32g (not my first choice but was a small bottle for £10) and with 4 clicks of hop I was hitting peeking heads at 45m+ 😁1 point

Same as when guns have "custom" paintjobs. It's not that, if they are done well or by a known name that has a reputation for quality work, that such things aren't of negligible value. It's that as you say, you've got 2 kinds of people who will be looking at the advert: -people who share your taste to whom the custom work may well be worth more money. -people who don't to whom the custom work is at best something that adds no value or at worst (especially the case with paint jobs) an annoyance that will take effort to revert/replace. Needless to say the second group is going to be significantly larger than the first.1 point -

If you're going to stick to collection only, I'd ask a bit more than that, or a bit less. Why? Because the key issue is whether there's a collector nearby who's interested in them as historical pieces. If there is, then they might pay more. And if there isn't, then you're only going to get sweetie-money offers for them anyway. Posting (and splitting) will significantly increase the chance of finding that collector.1 point

If you are plinking go with the GHK. Swap the valve out to a Co2 one, get yourself a Sodastream adapter and direct fill Co2 into the mag (AKA devil hunter mod). Replace the chamber base to steel and drop a M4 carbine buffer spring in. Best recoil I have felt without powder and will empty a mag in FA with snow on the ground like a sowing machine. GHK trigger break and reset is very good if a little light (around 3lb) can get after market springs but if only plinking bending the legs of the spring should suffice if you want to change the weight of the trigger. If you can build a real AR you can build a GHK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiDD-aCMH84&ab_channel=JeffieJeff'sAirsoft https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHyIIuYWMlw&ab_channel=A'jvi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=It0o9i7xGnY&ab_channel=TOTALRECOILAIRSOFT1 point -

I was thinking about it a bit, and the conclusion I came to is that aside from the weight of the L85 the big issue is that there's no industry around it to iterate improvements. Our government has killed both private and public small arms production/development in the UK for the most part, so unless we setup and pay loads of money for specific iteration work and improvement on the SA80 series then nothing gets done. I don't think it'd be wildly untrue to say that essentially the opposite is true of the AR platform in the states; there's more companies than probably any one person knows, all of them constantly trying to beat the others at offering the latest and greatest variant of the western world's darling assault rifle. It's been a game of decreasing returns on investment for a long time now, just chipping away at very small performance increases as the technology is pretty much at it's limit, but when you have unimaginable amounts of money being poured in to seeking out those small gains you end up with an impressive end product. Heck that bloke pictured has almost nothing of British origin on him anywhere, even MTP as a pattern was mostly developed by Americans with only a smidge of input from ol' DPM. The biggest capability increases in the past 10-15 years have been in optics, lasers and other accessories and the other issue with the L85 is it's not quite as good of a mounting system for those things as the AR. Obviously the A3 is a lot better but not quite on the same level. Partly through the weight, partly the general layout and ergonomics and the fact all those gadgets are again designed with an eye on the DoD/US market (and therefore the AR layout even if it's something like the XM7). I'm sure other have seen US SOF guns (especially longer range setups) absolutely dripping with gadgets to the point you can barely see the rifle anymore. You can easily fit 10s of thousands worth of extras on something like a 6.5CM semi-auto that might 'only' cost say $5-8k and those things allow the shooter to pull off pretty crazy feats, especially at night and at long ranges. That's the sort of thing can really give us an advantage now over a bloke with an SVD or PKM. Or you know.. a PLA infantryman.1 point

Anyone else like drawing concept art to get a general idea of what a build might look like? I recently made this one for my current build. This one is a full concept art but sometimes I just photoshop parts together. It's a good way to see if things fit. Edit: The quality dropped in the attached file, here is a higher resolution version and a closeup of the Torch and NGAL, which I now see says "DFA" instead of "FDA" https://i.imgur.com/1an3EeZ.png https://i.imgur.com/PS2tzVW.png1 point

I've said this on a couple of other threads recently, so apologies for repeating. Last month I bought a RIF from WGC Shop in Hong Kong. From point of order to delivery was less than two weeks and there wasn't any additional duty or fees to pay. My UKARA was printed on the outside of the box and the package hadn't been opened for inspection. However, a few years ago, I bought a RIF from Swit Airsoft that took around three weeks to deliver after receiving a £90+ charge from HMRC. I suspect that the mismatch between UKARA address and delivery address is part of the issue, as I know UK retailers won't deliver if the addresses don't match. ** @Asomodainailed it 👆1 point

I would imagine the tax bit relates to the fact they are going to ask you to pay duty and vat on it. Unless the retailer is registered to collect UK taxes on behalf of HMRC The fact the adress differs from your UKARA might not help either tbh, especially as it's a business address . Do the courier have a contact number you can phone ?1 point

Trousers will be replaced when the weather turns shyt. No belt as currently refining that to be as slimmed down as possible.1 point
