Bit of a rollercoaster yesterday at UCAP Vendetta, which for those who've maybe not heard of it is a former prison right in Gloucester. I've been wanting to get to one of these former prison sites for years (I think there's 3 in the UK?) and I've never been posted anywhere that's very close to any of them, but I happened to not have to come in to work today so the sunday game was a solid opportunity. Got there right on opening time as I'd seen a review saying safe zone table/seating space was a little tight, definitely an interesting experience even just driving in the place as you go through 2 extremely tall, heavy (but narrow) entrance gates arranged in an airlock type fashion that I presume made up the proper vehicle access when the prison was still running. The parking is within a fenced area within the main walls and is understandably tightly restricted, which unfortunately means cars are packed in like sardines and you will not be leaving site until the game finishes, full stop! Got ready and went 2 chrono with 2 just-worked-on AEGs, one of which I'd used at Airsoft Plantation and passed their chrono fine on .25s, but not at UCAP! ? The other also failed even more spectacularly, doing 370 on a .2, not something I've ever happened in my entire time playing. *Luckily* not all the rental guns were spoken for, so I paid the difference, left my VFCs with hundreds worth of internals work in their bags and rocked out with a beautifully basic Specna made entirely out of plastic, adorned with nothing but flip-up iron sights, not even a sling. The irony being that this was my first time ever playing with a rental gun, having attended even my first game in '06 with my own toy AR (it wasn't a RIF at the time technically, was just before the VCRA). I'd always meant to try renting just for the heck of it, but would've much rather done it on my own terms it must be said. I'd expected all the rentals to be gone and with my car thoroughly blocked in I was deep in 5p-50p territory for a little while there. What I had predicted was that it'd be extremely nimble and practical running the rental, especially close up, which indeed it was, more so than much of my regular guccified guns. The safe zone is definitely up there in luxury (comparatively) and protection from the elements as long as you do get a little bit of table space, toilets not too bad as they go, didn't check out the shop and brought my own lunch; given how empty the SZ was at lunch I suspect the queue was substantial. UCAP is definitely heavy on rules as organisations go, more limits on RIF/mag/ammo types than I've seen elsewhere, 'no boots, no play' policy which resulted in some.. haphazardly sourced footwear, heh. Chrono was thorough on the one hand and they even check you're not hopping too much, turning it down to increase velocity if necessary, but they also don't physically tag anything, just show the hot gun to one of the many many security cameras they have around site and tell you not to use it. That's mostly ok in an integrity based game I'd say, but then my own experience did rather prove the system fallible. As mentioned I failed chrono initially, used the rental gun first game, then figured I'd take a hail mary shot on the .2s I got for renting maybe doing some reverse joule creep on the 1 gun that was close to passing. I got it re-checked by a marshal and luckily it squeaked under limits, so I could use one of my own guns on the 2s and spent the rest of the day doing so. With around 5 minutes to go of the final game of the day an evidently new marshal asked if I was the guy that failed chrono in the morning, I said yes I had but I'd been re-checked and passed, but he didn't take my word so they brought the chrono out and checked me again; which was fine as nothing had changed. That said, rather pointless given I'd played almost all day with said gun already and to me that's pretty clear proof that their apparent camera monitoring system is just security theatre, as once I got re-checked and passed nothing was done or changed. It'll work on honest people, but it wouldn't stop a determined cheat, as I basically demonstrated. Anyway, the physical site is very interesting indeed, one of the best actual locations I've played, maybe the old Mall would be the only potential rival. The fact they also do paid tours of the place says a fair bit, most of the prison is pretty intact and there's even a couple of inmate transport trucks, one of which is open and fully in play. For me the best part is the layout does perhaps the best job I've seen of placing players at the ideal engagement distances. You're rarely at all doing that classic thing of looking at someone 60m+ away and not actually being able to shoot them, with no cover inbetween. You generally come round a corner and the other team is at 10-40m or so and you have a great little firefight. A few kids were slow on calling hits and were looking around to eyeball the firer before making the shout, but that's kids I guess and far as I can recall all the adults were good in this respect. The number of obvious (at least to me) current/ex military and police blokes as well as obviously experienced players of the game inattendance says a fair bit about the site overall, imho. Car parking sitch is, for me, a not insignificant negative as I always want to be free to leave when I so choose even though I never do leave early, I just do not like the notion personally. Overall though, solid site to play for sure.4 points -
Definitely not the norm, but it's collection only so at least someone can check what their getting, I used to live 5 minutes from there, I'd have been on it like a tramp on chips? It's either true & better to get something for it than leave it behind, OR It's dodgy af & he's flogging his flatmates kit before getting the hell out of dodge before his flatmate & his ex get back from holiday lol?3 points

Only played half the day today as my atrial fibrillation (at least that's what the doctors think it is) played up on Friday so I decided to keep it light today so I don't wake up tomorrow with palpitations. Hopefully on the road to sorting that, but anyway... Got there a little later than usual, but set up both the m40a5 and the m14, chronoing both immediately. M40 was a crisp 2J and the m14 was 1J. Perfect. Then while my friend was setting up his guns it started absolutely tipping it down, so I hurriedly got everything back into the car. It wasn't meant to rain today and fortunately it only lasted for about 45 mins or so. I got all my kit together and decided to run the m40a5 with the HK45 as my sidearm and my newly acquired and set up TM bodyguard pistol in a shoulder holster. With the Hadron TDC upper and a little suppressor, it was absolutely tiny but it was sending .32s out to 50m relatively accurately (though I don't think I'd be going for many 50m shots with it) and was nice and quiet; not quite as quiet as the mk23 as the suppressor is tiny by comparison, but considering how massive the mk23 is and how small the bodyguard pistol is I was more than happy as it was a lot easier to carry. Super impressed for such a little and honestly pretty damn cheap pistol. First game wasn't one I was too fond of. It was a timed attack and defence on one of the bases, but defenders weren't allowed more than 20m from the base, which severely limited my options as running something with an MED at Worthing at the moment is a bit of a challenge and it didn't really afford me any positions I could take and use my bolt action well. We attacked first and the writing was on the wall; our team was very timid. Nobody was pushing. I wasn't able to really impact the game much either with how the sight lines were around this base, but we eventually cleared it out and took it. Then we swapped sides. I took a position concealed under a holly bush and managed to take out a bunch of the attackers on the way in, but not being able to move too far from the base means I was eventually flanked and taken out when someone almost stepped on me while I was incredibly fogged up thanks to the earlier rainfall making all the bushes super humid. Whoever said you need a ghillie to be invisible anyway Second game came around and... I really enjoyed it. Usually we do a 3-base domination, but this time they did a 5-base domination and I think it worked well. I would've used some other bases, as 4 of the bases were very close together, but having to spread across 5 bases was far better than 3. It was in this game where I feel I did my best work, crawling into a position, setting up my rifle to fire and taking out a fully ghillied enemy sniper team and 2 of their team mates as one of them was directly observing the area I was crawling through. Slow deliberate movements, never silhouetting myself and finally a good bit of marksmanship really helped and it felt so good to achieve, since I play with the short-sleeve handicap during the summer; no ghillie, just an uncrafted cobra hood over a plain black short sleeved t-shirt. I'm not exactly covered in camo! From there I held that position, taking out the sniper as he returned from respawn as well as a whole host of other people on the enemy team who wanted to use that position. It's games like this that remind me why I love sniping. We then switched sides, taking me to the side I was far more familiar with and I immediately went and took a position overlooking a path into the area with the bases. I completely shut down that side of the site with the help of another forum-goer here until he got friendly fired by trigger-happy teammates (who I've forgotten the name of sorry ) and eventually the enemy team just completely abandoned their efforts there, so while the start of the game was eventful, the end saw me barely taking a single shot. I'm glad I refilled my mags before this game as I burned through 2 of my 3 m700 mags in this game, so I would've run out of ammo if I hadn't. Across these two games, I think I took out the enemy team's full ghillie pair about half a dozen times without them even seeing me once. I definitely feel like I was on point for these games. Also, it seems I was finally caught on camera, so you can see what I mean by "I'm not in a ghillie right now" ? At lunch I decided to call it, though I heard it was a complete slaughter in the afternoon with our team getting absolutely pantsed by the enemy team. Exercise is what sets off my heart palpitations, so after the morning I felt I didn't want to push it. Furthermore the game after lunch was in a super dense part of the site that is basically a CQB killhouse, but with thick bushes for walls instead of... walls. Wasn't going in there with a 30m MED (you're lucky to get 15m shots in there), so I stayed back in the safe zone. Tweaked the m40a5 a little as it was overhopping, but I think I may try a new hop rubber. Now that the X-range is bedded in it's hopping .45s a bit too much, so I'm going to pick up one of the new Maple Leaf silicone rubbers (the 2023 ones) and stick a 60 degree in. Fingers crossed it works out, but we'll find out next game day as I don't exactly have a 75m range to try it out on living in Brighton. Also continue to be impressed with the King Arms adjustable m700 bolt. It's super consistent and hasn't let me down once. After the m40a5, I took my new AAP onto the range to get the hop dialled in; I saw one for sale on ammo drop on sale for about £70 and I wanted to do a modern ruger .22 upper to go alongside my old fashioned one. Set that up and was happy with the performance, but I'm not a huge fan on the magazines as I feel they're not that gas efficient but further testing is required there. Anyway, all in all it was a great day. After the brief downpour in the morning it was sunny for most of the day which helped dry the site out a little and reduce the humidity a little so after the first game I wasn't fogging up much at all. Downside is that I'm almost certainly going to have to skip the upcoming Vietnam game at Gunman Eversley (sorry @Tactical Pith Helmet but I won't be there. The others I usually go with should be though! I think one of the others can't make it either so our contingent won't be in attendance) as I'm not going to go camping in the middle of the woods with any risk of atrial fibrillation rearing its ugly head.3 points -
BB weights...
Autistic_Horse and 2 others reacted to Impulse for a topic
Going to be a bit of a wall (such a glorious wall that I'm scared the FBI is going to raid my house and throw me in jail), so I will add a TL:DR at the end with some key points for those who don't want/need to understand the physics and mathematics behind our hobby. Ok, so I've done a LOT of research into BB weight and ballistics due to my interest in long distance shooting in airsoft. Also, please bear in mind that this is, at the end of the day, a layman's explanation of this. I'm operating on A-level mathematics and GCSE physics here, and I haven't done them in about a decade. It's also really hard to explain this without a whiteboard or sheet of paper to draw diagrams and stuff, so bear with me I'll do my best to keep it accessible! So, the maths behind our hobby! Kinetic energy is calculated by 1/2 x mass x (velocity x velocity), using brackets as order of operations means we do the squaring before the multiplication but it's easier to show this way exactly what I'm doing. However we can't just translate that to airsoft measurements of fractions of a gram and feet per second, as joules are calculated using mass in kg so really really small numbers in our context and velocity in metres per second, not feet per second. So a 0.2g BB shot at 328fps, which is 100m/s would calculate as: Energy = 1/2 x 0.0002 x (100 x 100) Energy = 0.0001 x 10000 Energy = 1J Only reason I used 328fps instead of 350fps is to avoid plaguing you with weird numbers and make the example easier to follow. Really, feet per second is annoying and we should be using metres per second since it's easier to work with in terms of energy calculations. It's why springs are m100, m120 etc, as they're designed in m/s rather than ft/s. What we can take away from this is that mass and velocity work in tandem to calculate joules (I know, I'm big smart for drawing such a conclusion). However we need to briefly consider momentum to understand ballistics; my physics teacher always described momentum as "how much something will hurt when it hits you" and is a lot simpler than kinetic energy. Momentum = mass x velocity. Easy. I'm not going to bore you with the calculations I'm doing for this example now, but I'm looking at 1.14J on a .2 and on a .48 as a comparison. That's 350fps on a .2 and 226.1fps (1 decimal place) on a .48. We can already see that momentum is going to be very different, but for argument's sake... momentum = 350 x .2 = 70 gram feet per second momentum = 226.1 x .48 = 108.5 gram feet per second (1 decimal place) So a heavy BB fired with the same kinetic energy as a lighter BB has more momentum (just over 50% more!). This is why when someone point blanks you with a .48 from a 1J pistol and says "stop crying, it's only 1J" is talking bollocks. Do I think we should be operating on momentum-based rules for airsoft? Hell no, that would be cancerous, but it's a consideration that I feel comes under the golden rule of "don't be a dick". However, this also goes a LONG way to explaining why heavy BBs tend to go further than lighter BBs; they simply have more momentum pushing forwards due to how physics works (the old example was if I throw a balloon vs if I throw a cricket ball with the same kinetic energy, which goes further). However, there's one last thing to consider when it comes to range and that's deceleration, as the BB is being affected by a number of things trying to slow it down and drop it to the ground, namely air resistance and gravity respectively. Hop up creates a backspin to give the BB an upwards lift to combat gravity, but combating air resistance isn't happening. I won't go into the mathematics on this as deceleration past GCSE level is really maths intensive (I would probably have to break out calculus and trigonometric functions to explain my point), but essentially an object moving at a higher velocity has more air resistance acting on it, so that BB travelling faster actually has more pushback from Mother Nature than a slower BB. Furthermore, that air resistance is going to have more effect on a lighter weight projectile as lower mass makes it easier to push back, so a combination of higher air resistance and more impactful air resistance means that a lightweight BB fired at the same energy is going to slow down and lose that energy a hell of a lot faster than a heavy projectile. Anyway, I hope you're all still awake after that (I find it fascinating, but I know not everyone does), but now I'll move into airsoft specific phenomena like joule creep and cylinder to barrel ratio. With AEGs, it's rare that power goes up with weight but it is possible. I couldn't explain to you in detail how the maths works out, but essentially there's a sweet spot for ammo weight with most guns and it varies dependant on inner barrel length and cylinder size. What tends to happen is that shorter barreled AEGs are more efficient with heavier ammo, but longer barreled AEGs tend to drop in power with heavier BBs due to voluming issues; the cylinder doesn't have enough air to fill the barrel so the BB starts to decelerate while it's still in the barrel, meaning that a heavier BB that comes out slower originally will start to have forces working against it (friction with the barrel and air resistance) sooner by fractions of a second, but it all affects it. It all depends on if there's enough air in the cylinder to fill the barrel. Look up cylinder to barrel ratio for a better explanation than I can give; I don't use AEGs much and they're the only guns I don't tech myself because I'm useless with gearboxes. Also, as has been said, heavier ammo typically needs more hop pressure to be applied which can also drop your power (as at the end of the day you're adding some resistance to the BB's flight path. Assuming you have enough air volume in an AEG, or if you're using another platform like a GBB, then heavy ammo will typically cause your power to go up due to joule creep as long as you're not having to apply incredible amounts of hop to lift them. The BB will accelerate while it's in the barrel as long as there's something to push it, which for a gas gun is the gas expanding when it leaves the magazine, so a longer barreled gas rifle will have a higher power than a shorter barreled gas rifle as it has more space to accelerate before leaving the barrel; it's the same as real-steel firearms, a long barreled AR-15 will shoot better at longer range than a short barreled AR-15 assuming the same ammo due to acceleration in the barrel. So why am I saying any of this? Well, it's the considerations part of your question. With AEGs you need to consider cylinder to barrel ratio and with gas guns you need to consider barrel length. In both you need to consider the hop setup and how much you need to apply to lift the BB and the barrel diameter also impacts power; wider = less power, tightbore = more, as there's less space for air to escape past the BB in a tightbore so it has to push the BB out to escape the inner barrel, which at the end of the day is what the gun is trying to do with all that air and is why air seal is so important for consistency, as the air will seek to escape from wherever it can. Now in terms of the benefits, a heavier BB will tend to have a more stable trajectory, has a bit more punch to get through foliage and will retain its kinetic energy for longer, though we're talking about fractions here. Will a .32 be all that different to a .28? Not really, but will a .48 perform differently to a .2? It most certainly will but I think often times people over-estimate the difference in BB performance. Wind will still carry a .48 off to Narnia and a leaf will still deflect a .48; trust me, speaking from experience there as a bolt action enjoyer who has watched many shots through my scope go their own way because of wind or leaves in the way. Really, punching through foliage requires volume of fire as opposed to weight of BB and I think "go heavy to punch through foliage" is a false economy. Even my .48s fired at 2.3J have issues punching through foliage and I usually try to post the shots through empty spaces in the bushes rather than going through any leaves; precision over power. Anyway, I feel like I've gone on enough about this. Thank you for coming to my TED talk on BB weight and the physics behind our hobby. In short: Heavier BBs fired at the same kinetic energy as lighter BBs have more momentum, which is why it hurts more getting shot by heavy BBs, even at 1J Faster projectiles have more air resistance acting on them Lighter projectiles are more affected by air resistance Therefore lighter BBs travelling faster both have more air resistance acting on them and are more affected by said air resistance This means that heavy BBs will travel further as they have more momentum, less air resistance acting on them and are less affected by that air resistance (assuming your hop can lift them) Joule creep will cause power to go up in gas guns with longer barrels as the BB has more room to accelerate Cylinder to barrel ratio affects power (and consistency) in AEGs. Heavier BBs can up the power in short barreled AEGs, but tend to drop the power in long barreled ones If you want the absolute maximum performance of your gun you generally want to be as close to the power limit as possible with the heaviest BB that your hop will lift I will still call you a dick if you run .48s in a pistol, especially if you're shooting up close3 points -

Half day for me and the boy on Saturday. He met up with a friend from cadets who had a great time and is planning his next visit, so looks like we've added another to the rank and file of Spec Ops roster. Second day out with my Double Eagle and his Cyma G36. Again, both performed flawlessly and just took the abuse and shrugged it off. I did a lot more shooting this game as I found myself in some great positions affording me sweeping arcs of fire as the opfor team tried to push objectives or flank. I think I went through 12 midcaps in the morning session which is a lot for me. Think I need to invest in an Odin or clone as my speedloader/thumb can't keep up at that rate of use. Only brought one battery each as we were on a half-day and was starting to wonder if I'd regret that decision with the amount of firing, but surprisingly when I got back the LiPo from my DE was only down to around 25% so needed just a brief charge back to storage voltage. The boy's LiIon pack was down to 10%, about 3.6v per cell so was pretty done. Was a busy day with a lot of rentals but it all went remarkably smoothly and I had one of my most enjoyable days yet. The games this weekend were staged from some of the more peripheral areas of the Spec Ops map and it seemed to create some new and fun corridors of action that were better suited to funnelling people and objectives through. Good to finally meet @Dan Robinson, hope the knee mends up soon and thanks to @RostokMcSpoons for letting the boy have a play with the GBBR... I can hear a birthday list being furiously scribbled out at this very minute. Highlights of the day for me... Saying 'This is the longest I've ever lasted in a game of Zombies...' before immediately being shot in the forehead. Finding a perfect tree that afforded good cover and a great spot to rack up kills from. Not being able to find said tree after returning from respawn. Do not know, didn't spot anything that looked like a good all day car park on the way in or out, was my first time attending and their website/staff certainly don't mention that. Looking at google maps there's at least 1 standard pay-and-display car park close enough that carrying all one's equipment might be safe/viable, potentially, haven't really dug in to it as the site is a decent distance from me so it won't be my regular or anything (plus I need my guns sorting lol).1 point -

Haven't posted here in a long time, I'll restart with this Scored a steel version Bear Paw SVU GBB a while ago and wanted something special in regards of optics for it. Looked around a bit and finally got my hands on a rare 1P21 scope - very large russian scope that has been used on the SVD. I'm not sure if any of these have ever been used on the real SVU, standard for this was the PSO-1 scope. It's also not possible to mount large scope mounts like the one of the 1P21 on an SVU without disassembling it, as these are pushed onto the side rail from the rear, which can't be done on the SVU. I usually try to go more or less authentic, but here I didn't care - it just looks so nicely badass ? Bearpaw OTs-03 SVU steel version with realsteel 1P21:1 point

This morning, the lad and I once again set off for Airsoft Plantation, one of our regular sites. The morning started with a game in which we (red team) had to assault across the mortar pits to reach a siren which was located on the far side in front of one of the landing craft. The attacking team had infinite regens on a marshal, while the defenders had two lives. Assaulting out of the woods, the big surprise was that the double decker bus had moved from the centre of the mortar pits to the edge nearest the woods; apparently, this is in preparation for their upcoming two-dayer over the bank holiday weekend and completely changed the dynamics of fighting in that area. We were badly held up trying to get out of the woods, but eventually wore the enemy down, forcing our way through the mortar pits and setting off the siren. The game was then switched round and we realised why it had taken us so long to break out; shooting fish in a barrel came to mind. After being hit, I moved back to a position in our left rear, where the enemy were starting to apply pressure after engaging in a wide flanking manoeuvre. We held them up for a while, but they eventually reached the siren, taking one minute longer than we had. Unfortunately, during this game, one of the lad's BFGs went missing after he had used it in a very well defined area; when he went to recover it 3-4 minutes later, it had vanished, After the game, we searched for it, but could not find it. After a break to mag up, play switched to the other end of the site in a game wherein the attackers had to transport a stretcher from the far end of the woods to the wobbly bridge and kill house; once they had arrived there, a casualty had to be placed on the stretcher with an band applied to each limb and then transported via the Border to the town hall in the village. Attackers again respawned on a marshal, while defenders had one life at each of the wobbly bridge, the border and the village. If the casualty was hit, they had to leave the stretcher and a new casualty had to don the bands and be transported forward. The lad and I, along with several other players, occupied the ditch on the far right of the site, working well as a team and taking out a lot of attackers in the light woodland. Eventually, my rifle received a hit from a sniper rifle or DMR; calling a gun hit, I drew my pistol, only to be hit again by fire from my left, sending me back towards the border, where I settled into a favourite position and waited for the enemy, who arrived rather more rapidly than expected. I took out a bunch who were exposed to my right and then another group who appeared in the same place; while I was doing this, a fellow defender to my front fell gallantly when faced by overwhelming numbers and I found myself facing a lot of enemies to my front and right flank. After holding them back for a few minutes, I was hit and went back to the village, where an unfortunate friendly fire incident ended my participation in the game. I decided to have another look for the lad's grenade and was later joined by him; we still could not find it. We met an enemy player who had been there when it was lost and he stated that he had seen it in on the grass in clear view. As this was now lunchtime, we mentioned the grenade to the site owner; at the end of the afternoon briefing, he mentioned it and stated that whoever had picked it up should hand it in at the site shop/office. A player did so, claiming that he had picked it up (why?) and put it in his dump pouch, but had then completely forgotten about it and then spent one and half games and all of lunchtime completely oblivious to having a large and heavy BFG banging against his hip (yeah, right!). Anyway, the important thing was that the lad got his BFG back. After lunch, the stretcher game was reversed; a group of us, including the lad and I, assaulted the ditch that we had defended earlier, driving the enemy out in fine style. We then attacked the border, which is always difficult as it is a very strong position, but eventually broke through after a fierce fight against a superb defence; poison gas and flash bangs were much used. Rolling up to the village, we stormed it en masse, getting our casualty to the town hall more quickly than the enemy had. After this, the final game saw a return to the mortar pits, with both sides attacking across them to set off a buzzer at the enemy's start point. All players had two lives and my participation was somewhat limited as my two lives each passed quickly. Despite the grenade incident, it was a really good day, with us running some of our less used weapons. AP already has a 30m minimum engagement distance for full auto and, as last week, there seemed to be an effort to persuade players to use semi all the time, which is something that I applaud; it makes play so much more interesting. Next weekend, we are probably going to an outdoor CQB site that is completely new to us. also going to echo the comments above, reforger is a great site. last week we played in the village all morning, then moved to checkpoint charlie, runway and then finally heartbreak ridge on the map below (copied from their website). so there is still plenty of the site to explore. everyone was informed at the briefing that we would be out in the game area all day, returning at lunch time, so we were all given the option of putting a small bag with some spare ammo/gas etc into the boot of a land rover that followed us to the game areas to allow us to rearm quickly between games rather than walk back and forth from the safe zone each time. village is a relatively large grouping of buildings in the base of a ravine, so as mentioned above, getting onto the ridgeline offers a good vantage point. checkpoint charlie was where we played a kind of tug-of-war game, where each team had to push a flag toward the enemy respawn. personally i felt this area became too bogged down with everyone fighting over one main path for the flag, so i focussed on trying to flank around and take out enemies from the side as much as i could and ended up playing cat and mouse with the enemy snipers in the woods surrounding the path. the "runway" at this time of year has quite long grass growing across the field, so there is plenty of cover for anyone moving towards the objective at the crashed airplane. i didnt see much of the surrounding area as i had dug into a fox hole to defend the plane and didnt move around much. also didnt realise at the time that there were two downed planes on the site with only half the site explored on my visit, i will definately be returning in the near future in hopes of visiting the rest of the site.1 point

BB weights...
SSPKali reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
Not in all cases, some setups can have a dramatic drop in power when the hop is almost/completely off, so dramatic the bb can struggle to even make it down the barrel. I've never quite figured exactly how that works but i've seen it often enough that i got into the habit of setting hops at least mid-way when bench testing. Hence why it bugs me when sites do the whole "chrono with the hop off" thing because its basically asking for false readings.1 point -

Standard AR is 1/2x28tpi , H&K is M15x1 they are likely different on purpose so airsoft shit doesn’t fit on RS and kill everyone at a range day ? it is most likely due to gun and export laws around the globe .1 point -

Probably something to do with the fact that the KWA MP9 is out of stock everywhere and everybody just wants a GBB-thingy that they can actually get their hands on brand-new. Plus MP9 owners can now get alright mags for cheap, so it's a win-win despite how ugly the thing is.1 point -
I use them on my other stuff and tbh it's decent for the price except their longer barrels are a pretty penny and come into range of other, better, brands. You might be interested to know that AK2M4 is making (or getting made) his own inner barrels and they're supposed to be a similar price point to ZCI while having an ever better internal polish, he's calling them "XT standard and XT performance. He even bought a scope cam to show off the internal of the test pieces. Supposed to be arriving in September. Here's a link to his FB page where he shows the inner surface of stock brass, aluminium, ZCI and the test pieces he's received so far. My only gripe with ZCI is that they only make 6.02mm as far as I know.1 point

The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread

Operation Paramount 2 – 28-30/07/23 Fawkham Kent – Sierra Bravo Airsoft A really fun weekend. We left for Kent at an anti-social 5am to beat the traffic, and ended up at Ultimate Wargames for about 7:10. We had a leisurely trundle with no stress at all. Bit much to have to leave so early, especially after a full on night in the gym, but there you go. On arrival we parked up, got our sleeping bags out and a few basic bits of kit, and found somewhere to sleep for a few hours. Since this was a full on weekend game, we would be sleeping in the field and hopefully not go back to the car until Sunday afternoon. We found the most light tight building in the village and had a long nap. The basic premise to this game was to build on last year’s instalment. An insurgent force, almost unchecked by a local military devoid of funds or supplies, is waging war against a US task force liberating their country with some freedom through extreme violence. A team of arms dealers possibly linked to the Kremlin add to the fun; so far so straight to DVD movie but seriously, what a set of characters to play. The loadouts were the best of any game this year. The police team had sets of matching uniform based on Serbian paramilitary units complete with cuffs, night sticks etc. The National Army looked like they dressed by rummaging in a skip outside a Russian base and the terrorists were straight off the set Carry on Camel albeit with guns. The taskforce team were made up of a couple of groups of players who play as teams in Milsim games. They were well into their kit, but a damn good laugh too. It’s hard to take oneself seriously in such a setting tbh. Saturday started with chrono and safety brief. This was very brief as everyone was an experienced player who knew the ruleset, but still covered the essentials. Questions were welcomed and game specific rules clarified. For one, the taskforce took a limb hit by self-torqueing said limb (loosely), being medic’d for 30 seconds for torso hits, and taking head shots as KIA. The site is mainly woodland with a village area of buildings and a few isolated structures such as The Towers fort. There is a CQB area to the South full of rat runs and old vehicles. As a member of the Jallal militia/insurgents, I had to locate and retrieve mines and then lay them along routes likely frequented by Taskforce or NA players. We also had to engage TF as civies in order to work out their numbers. As we camped together as factions, this was genuinely useful, as we were kept apart all Friday night. Part of the TF came into the village that we were stationed in and as one of them tripped a mine on its perimeter, we nicked as much of their kit as we could as they dived for cover/followed the bang. The Police proved reliably dishonest, hiding our booty and then charging the TF to ‘find’ it. For our part we accepted bribes manfully and promised cooperation. We then learned that one of our team had actually tripped the mine, having forgotten where he put it… luckily he was leading two TF at the time. The next task was to ambush the TF and blend back in with the civilian players who spent all morning and afternoon setting the story, making the game run smoothly. This accomplished with some trouble, as they were no fools and not easily led. As usual, the key to success is hit and RUN. Honestly, sticking around never works as players as good as this re-group like greased lightning. After our hit and run and a showdown with the NA, the TF decided to teach us a lesson by raiding the village. This was a real highlight, as the organiser had arranged for a pyro expert to lay large theatrical charges all over one corner. As the TF got to the centre, a huge bang sent ash clouds about 20 feet in the air, and I opened up with the trusty RPK. Again, we legged it sharpish after a long few bursts that found their mark. The lad used his VSS with scope to good effect and the rest of the fellows had a variety of AKs that joined in the carnage, mainly, it was discovered around the campfire, of CYMA make. Having surprised the hell out of the TF it was good to get back into the woods and hunt small sections, ambush in small squads until the next set piece, an attack on the CQB section of the site. This we had to defend and keep the chief safe. This went less well for us. As they knew where we were, and we could not hit and run, the better organised team were sure to give us a drubbing, which they did. We lost both the loot and our HVT in short time. I got a grenade lobbed neatly between my feet for one. Next up we had to find the components for a bomb. We could not locate the last of these, despite managing to follow the arms dealers who were leaving them. These chaps had on occasion been chased by TF all over the map, and helped us when it suited them. We were searching when the whole TF showed up and I and two other players had to hit the mud. In a forest, and we had to be caught in a bare patch of dirt. We scrabbled into the mud and stayed still, unseen by a miracle. We saw that they obviously expected people to be there in good numbers and so watched them as they seemed to concentrate around The Towers. As soon as they left we ran to the Towers and found the last component! No sooner had we picked it up than we were rumbled and chased. Component dropped due to weight, we legged it and hid, only radioing for backup when a good few hundred yards away from our pursuers. No backup was forthcoming, as we were told to assemble in the village for a major assault. Two of us decided that the best thing to do was become selectively deaf and ignore the order. We gambled on the whole TF leaving the area for the attack, and went back. We found the target and got it back a.s.a.p. Last objective complete. What happened next was a perfect end to the day. We fought it out in the village in the dusk, and then dark, for about an hour and a half. I had not had time to swap my mesh or pick up a torch, so crawled around until I saw a target and let rip with the RPK. Luckily I know the site extremely well and managed to hide behind a pollarded tree as a fire position. My companion disappeared into the night and I slotted away, getting the odd strafe in along the windows of the occupied L-shape building. Despite NV and thermal equipment on the TF side, we carried on until game end at 10:30. A full twelve hour airsoft with no breaks save grabbing a pasty and a few choc bars through the day. Saturday night was very subdued. We were all absolutely knackered and I only manged to cook our steaks with my eyes closed for rest. No pan, so spuds cooked in a stainless camping mug and a bag of salad. Honestly, one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten. A packet of cookies and a few scotches later and we still stayed up till three am getting pissed and reliving the day. Sunday dawned far too early as some daft sod forgot to reset his alarm from the weekday setting. I did not appreciate being woken after three or so hours kip. Anyhow, when we did get up, we had a surprising amount of energy once the coffee was boiled. Today was the much loved fallback game. We fell back across the map anti-clockwise. This was a great airsoft setup and much more skirmishy tbh. Just simple gameplay for the hungover but still keen. Both sides were diminished, the opfor a little bit more. We were not quite steamrollered the first game, but despite being skilled players, we had not worked out our crossing fields of fire too well, and we lost our key position too quickly. The next position that we had to defend, a mate and I made a decision to sit 40 yards outside the perimeter and wait until the enemy had moved up on it. Since we were the only players on that side it was a tempting target and one that was taken. The TF were well in range when they popped out of cover to have one last conflab before hitting the fort. At that point we raked them with fire. We did eventually get hit together so no medic for either and we felt that we had let the side down, only to find that we were the last defenders left. The next position was even better. I sat on a likely inception route and raked a whole squad with one burst. Like a silly sod I sat around to pick off anyone getting a medic, and got hit by someone moving up unseen. Should have run! Anyhow, I returned from respawn and hid in some really thick cover that overlooked the final objective. At the final shout of ‘All clear,’ I opened up on three TF. Thus followed a satisfying chase until I radio’d in that I would pull back and let them have a crack at the next target. I drew them into deeper cover as they knew that they faced only one opponent. Bugging out as soon as I’d fired to a pre-seen hiding spot got the job done. Shame Mrs TPH had to stay at home as she would have revelled in this bit of play. The last firefight was truly epic. I have never seen so much plastic get slung. Taking position in the L-shape building upstairs in the village, I could have walked on the BBs in the air. Weight of fire wore us down as we were much depleted and the TF concentrated their forces very effectively. Another grenade as we cowered from the plastic storm saw me and the lad out of action for good and game over. What a fucking blast. A whole game of quality play, tight rulesets with no marshals required, and really good social afterwards. A quick debrief and we were going home. The return took nearly five bloody hours. I’m still knackered and still a bit wired if I’m honest. Monday morning saw me stiff as a board. Thank God work was rained off. Cheers Sierra Bravo! Land owners can shoot deer with a 12g using no less than AAA shot if foodstuffs are being eaten if memory serves. You'd have to be no more than 15-20 yards max or so though, I would have thought. AAA is around 5.5mm so pingy as fuck at 1200fps, the same as .22LR subs.1 point -

Setting the machines up to do them rather than as one offs, which is time consuming for now but faster in the long run. Have discussed doing them for the Spas 12s with more detail which will be a little more expensive but I'm sure there will be a market. It's significantly cheaper in terms of tools to make the pump channels go all the way and fill with a tab. The sheriff Spas 12 cage is made like this.1 point
