Let's not forget, what would the man on the Clapham omnibus think about it all, that's almost as much of a precedent as any set in stone law that anyone here can quote, it's when conjecture & interpretation become just as important when it comes to all things "GNU"., especially once the tabloids get their grubby little mitts on it.4 points -

Am I nuts for wanting a .308?
The Waco Kid and 2 others reacted to Tactical Pith Helmet for a topic
I'll second the two comments above. What I will say I that one doesn't admire the fireplace whilst stoking the fire as it were. Unless you are going to hang it on the wall, what it looks like is secondary to ergonomics. If I play competitively I use my G&G M4. For themed games I never use an M4. I have eight CYMAs and all behave flawlessly.3 points -
Afternoon all, I just booked game no.3 which means UKARA should be sorted by December, so I guess it's my turn for a 'WhAt aM bEsT gNu?!?' thread ... sort of. What I'm really after is some kind of validation that I'm not potentially making my life harder than it needs to be by either buying something that's built of cheese or is just wrong for what I want to use it for - there's been a number of RIFs in pole position but I think I'm settled on one. So here goes. I'm currently thinking of getting the G&G TR16 SBR 308 mk2, it appears to be made well so I don't have to upgrade it instantly, but I mainly want it because I like the way it looks and isn't an M4 (not that I don't like M4's, it's just nice to have something else). Downside is proprietary mags, upside is I like it and you've gotta like whatever you're using to sling BBs. Currently in second is the (still G&G) SR30, it was my previous first place choice till I came across the 308. Downside is it's an M4 and everyone has them, upside is it's an M4 and everyone has them and as such there's a ton of aftermarket parts. I know G&G are on the pricier side of things but I've had my fair share of 'buy cheap, buy twice' so I'd rather get the right RIF from the start. I like the idea of being able to drop in a Perun ETU++ without needing to go into the gearbox, although the idea of teching my own stuff doesn't scare me at all. What I don't want to do is spend that kind of money and regret it. ICS, Specna and CYMA have been on the shortlist at one point or another. Bullpups are a no from me. Thinking some kind of holo sight for whatever gun I get. Already got a tracer and light. Pistol's gonna be the TM FNX-45 and nobody's talking me out of that (fingers crossed black ones will be back in stock when I'm looking to buy it, or one appears in the classifieds). I predominantly play CQB hence going for a short-barrelled rifle. So there we go, am I crazy for wanting something that's not an M4 for my first rifle? will I regret a G&G?2 points

If it gets your PP hard while slinging the same BBs as everyone else, it's the right toy for you. Life's too short for regretting purchases that you didn't make. The one thing I'd mention is that sooner or later you're likely to run into some muppet of a marshal who declares "That's a DMR, mate, you can't use that in CQB, mate, it's way too hot, mate".2 points -

Have you considered shooting practical pistol competitions? I just shot a level 3 UKPSA (United Kingdom Practical Shooting Association) AA (Action Air) competition this last weekend at Carlisle Small Arms Club, we had competitors travel from as far afield as Poland to compete, here is a short video of me shooting most of the courses of fire (I forget to turn the camera on for 3 stages D'oh!) using an Aimpro glasses mounted camera, and shooting an ASG CZ Shadow 2. I even managed to get second place in my "Senior" division, and 7th place overall in "Standard" division https://www.bitchute.com/video/djmY0hyJEcFZ/?fbclid=IwAR0WoeqtABPZEbLGqrVQVSwgz29lKX4qM7nvDtjCQdVuxsUyuglhWv0ofzU2 points

I have a the g&g 308 and throughly enjoy it. The gear box is v2 compatible when it comes to parts. The magazines are proprietary, but I've not had any issues with any of mine, and the magazine actives the last round cut off, which I love as I came to it from gbbr rifs. Pouch wise, there's options; m14, scar H and tacos are your best bet for quick and cheap, personally I use short ak open pouches. Get the perun in straight away it's so much better than the G&G mosfet.2 points -

Knee Replacement ?
Tactical Pith Helmet and one other reacted to RichardC for a topic
I had mosaicplasty in February 2021. I eased back into running in May. Ran up a Munro in September. Played first (ever) game of airsoft November 2021. Woodland site - quite scary but I wore hard knee pads and didn’t take any chances. I can now run about the woods. The op has been an absolute life saver. Full recovery might take a while and it is important to push on with physio/rehab after the supposed ‘three month’ recovery period and not stop because you feel ok/have run out of physio time. I am still noticing improvements 18 months later. Big thing has been recovering the leg strength lost in the lead up to the op and after it. This restricted balance, getting up from prone and kneeling and recovering from slips and trips. Bulgarian split squats and going up stairs backwards have been a big help. Good luck!2 points -

I finished this Umarex Buntline yesterday, after being a little underwhelmed with a KTW Winchester and acquiring a stock cheaply. Turns out the stock is from a Colt SAA 2nd generation, what they put with the actual branded buntlines in 1957. Barrel made from aluminium with brass internally, and a tanaka ejector. Assembles and disassembles as it was designed. Shooting at 0.9 joules and hops 0.32s on a flat trajectory at 40m, the limit of my garden. Probably a realistic 55m but the bbs will be travelling pretty slowly by then. Hammer mod to make the hammer sit more flush with the frame. Bottom one is also hopped but for 0.25s.2 points -

M12 holster, aka the suicide holster. They were made by quite a few firms, Bianchi and Cathy being two. ”Suicide holster” allegedly comes from the awkward draw and people pulling the holster off with the gun under pressure. 🤨 It’s sized for the M9 and usually fit 1911’s and Glocks too. The draw technique is different to high speed holsters but gives good protection to the pistol. The holster is ambidextrous and uses a specific quick belt mount. This is also used on the Bianchi M1025/1030 pistol mag pouch. There are thumb break kits, drop leg adapters and shoulder/tanker fittings available. With the accessories and ability to hold a lot of different pistols it almost lives up to being the “Universal holster”. Are we having fun yet?2 points -

Lipo Charger Advice
Rogerborg and one other reacted to Speedbird_666 for a topic
ToolkitRC are a bit hit and miss with their gear (particularly with cell voltage calibration) - but they have improved over the years. The unit is very cheap (£17 here) and miles ahead of the Airsoft-branded shite 'dumb' chargers peddled by some vendors - BUT - there are limitations - as mentioned the Max Charge Current is low so bigger batteries will take longer - and there are only four pre-set charge currents that can be selected (something like 0.5A, 1A, 2A and 2.5A) which means if you have a fairly common 1300-1500mAh battery, you will be charging it at only 1A so it will take a bit longer. It's also LiPo only - so NiMhs are out. If you can live with the above, it's probably worth a punt if you can get it for less than £20. The SkyRC65 may not be as 'cool' (i.e. no colour screen) but it's much better appointed in terms of features for £32.2 points -

Do keep your full face and pack it when you play, just in case, as you can get denied on the day and it’s preferable to have your own then the well used rental Old leathery skin isn’t totally immune either This wasn’t mine - just from wiki. But it’s the spitting image of mine which suddenly flared up with a touch of students elbow I don’t do well in heat, and prefer to be in a t-shirt or light top …. But at one very hot tournament that I was photographing, during the morning captains brief the head referee added clarification that all players must wear full arm coverage, so I asked just to clarify … “But I’m fine like this?” in my official event media wife beater vest….. “No, everyone else will just winge” So I was stuck sweating in double layers1 point

That is because by installing the delayer chip you caused timing issues. What was happening inside your gearbox was that the piston was being released while the nozzle was still travelling forward (a delayer chip, well, delays the tappet plate release point and in most cases it anticipates its pickup). Since the system wasn't sealed (nozzle needs to insert into the hop rubber to seal) you'd lose air and get inconsistent, lower FPS readings. 10 FPS is still 3 m/s which means your air seal still isn't optimal, but that's a whole different story.1 point

The Waco Kid reacted to Impulse for a topic
You aren't nuts for wanting a .308. As someone who owns pretty much all RIFs where the real-steel versions are 7.62x51mm, I can vouch for a whole bunch of good ones. If you like that AR style platform, the Cyma SR-25 is absolutely amazing. A little pricey as it's part of their platinum series, but having taken mine apart and put it back together, I can vouch for the internals; they're really impressive out of the box. Ok, so you play predominantly CQB so ignore all of what I just said as I was attacking the .308 side from a sniper perspective; yes, I'm taking a 1.1J BASR (complete with 3.5-10x scope!) to a CQB game this weekend, but I'm weird. Don't be like me. As to your concerns, you don't have to get an M4 as your first rifle and there are plenty of parts available for other gearbox types. V3 gearboxes are used by both AKs and mp5s, both of which will do CQB pretty well, or at least have variants that will do CQB well like a folding stock AK. I typically try to avoid G&G because they love doing weird proprietary things that make them a bit weirder to work on, but I can vouch for Cyma. Every Cyma gun I have ever had has been an absolute workhorse of a RIF. The m14 socom I had 12 years ago was one of the best performing RIFs at the site I played at in the south of Spain out of all the players, my Cyma m14 that I have built as a 1.1J m21 has people with 2.3J BASRs fearing it for its range and accuracy when I'm counter-sniping them, my Cyma mp5k is probably my all around best gun that I would take to a game if I wanted to play to win and be the most effective player in game I could be and my Cyma SR-25 is... broken because I can't do AEG gearbox teching (but it will soon live again and once more terrorise the enemy team!). Also, Cyma AKs have been consistently great for over a decade now. I used to be a TM shill (and still am for their gas guns), but now I'm a total Cyma shill. I'm constantly impressed by how consistently well they perform with the most minor of modifications, which is generally just a ML rubber, nub and maybe a ZCI stainless steel barrel if I'm feeling spendy. No idea on their M4s though, and back in the day their M4s were crap.1 point -
Knee Replacement ?

https://www.fairfield.org.uk/knee-replacement-using-state-of-the-art-3d-printer-technology/ if you’re insured and can access a uk based surgeon who uses these or a competitors product then these are the current gold standard for knee replacement surgeries. Used in combination with a compression cryotherapy knee wrap your recovery time is significantly reduced. With much better outcomes. Two of my customers have had them and when these filter down to general use in a few years time knee surgeries will have much higher success rates. but you need the health insurance to cover it because it ain’t cheap!!!!!1 point -

The SkyRC S65 is a popular choice, but it's actually overkill for airsoft batteries. That M4AC looks fine. Nice simple interface (read the manual though regarding voltage!). I'd like a bit more granularity in the charging current, but unless you're in a real hurry, 1A is going to be OK for most airsoft batteries, and 2A for big ones. [EDIT] Lozart is right that if you're running something really meaty then you might want more than 2.5A, but I never run batteries that big, and in any case, it's not like you're going to need to charge them more than once a week or fortnight anyway, so it wouldn't put me off. I'd always err on the side of under-amping during charging rather than trying to rush it.1 point

UK law on shooting a RIF in a garden
Psilosylum reacted to Rogerborg for a topic
An “airsoft gun” is not to be regarded as a firearm for the purposes of [the Firearms] Act. https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1968/27/section/57A Any common sense interpretation would mean that they shouldn't be regarded as firearms for the Highways Act. But if the law operated on common sense, lawyers wouldn't drive Range Rovers.1 point -
Adventures in Wonderland or who the “fruitcage” is ALICE?
Tactical Pith Helmet reacted to The Waco Kid for a topic
There are many varieties of pistol belt issued with the ALICE system. They are sized but have quite a bit of adjustment. Initially the buckle from the M1956 pistol belt was used (LC1) Then the quick release buckle. The press in (LC2) release buckle fades to a very pale grey over time. The fasted buckle is the later standard and the one usually seen with the TLVB What is common is that Alice belts have two rows of eyelets, with the lower ones to hang the old M1910 fittings. The adjustment retainers vary and the quick release and fastex buckles have extenders available to go over body armour or cloth weather kit.1 point -

Pretty sure your wrong, & even if your not, the last bit definitely fails the "attitude test", which as everyone knows, the plod will always win in the long run, if there isn't a precise law to combat an airsoft related "offence", a loosely fitting one will be made to fit lol. Plus when it comes to Airsoft, we need people on our side, especially the police & other figures of authority, otherwise every negative police report is another nail in the coffin for Airsoft in its current form, not something I want to see change.1 point -

Lets discuss the difference between cultures about guns
Tactical Pith Helmet reacted to Madhouse for a topic
It's where I'd start. In reality no-one's going to change gun ownership in the US, it may get a little more regulated in terms of background checks but I can't see US citizens backing something like a 'pistols only' ruling because the military has AR's and if they're going to rise up against the military then they need ARs too. Thing is then you bump up against a healthcare system that isn't free at the point of use and social healthcare provision on top of that and how do you spot these issues when they're no way of them entering a 'system' through which they can be spotted. We'd go to our GP who'd refer it to someone else etc but if you've no insurance where are you going to go? Globally we've a long way to go on mental health. It's not just a gun issue, that is for sure. But in terms of gun culture, I see that as a different thing to gun related violence, much like the OP does. If you park the whole 'it's a firearm' thing it's like collecting guitars or stamps, hell we do it with RIFs. Part of the reason I have a lot of questions is that I think as an outsider I don't truly understand the US gun culture or the US feelings towards guns in general because it is such a different way of life, much like I don't get the Aussie obsession with Vegemite and TimTams ... although the German obsession with beer I get As the OP said, all we have to go on is our media so this is a chance to get insight from someone who is living it.1 point
