  2. Thread title says it. Built myself a pistol rack out of some cheap wood last week, much better solution than I had before (i.e. all the handguns just sort of crammed haphazardly next to some other gear on a shelf).

  7. The last email I got from the Dytac rep showed a QD type V2 gearbox. This is in their latest Sportline AEG, I'm guessing they use this in all their AEG's but I could be wrong. They do a great line of quality products, I was very tempted to start selling them here in the UK but they just weren't cheap enough when compared to the competition out there currently. Here's a pics he sent me:

  12. We arrived nice and early, gameplay beats paintball and I loved being liberal with ammo. But honestly, I have a query: is everyone playing always a massive wierdo? Seriously, me and my brother felt quite uncomfortable with everyone who had "done it for 6 weeks" and had some stupid upgraded DMR, worst of all the player with an A&K PKM swanning around at the back with his two lackeys IN GAME, doing absolutely nothing. Hit taking was so so questionable from even regulars, and it was quite uncomfortable seeing people who aren't good and can't play well with £700 quid VSR 10s and £800 Top Tech M4s. Is this normal, or did I have bad luck?

  13. Liquid blanco in Natural webbing colour. Yay more blancoing! Having received for Xmas a 2nd set of P37 webbing, I can now start tailoring a set to my Aussie impression. For a British impression the webbing has to be blancoed to make it green in different shades according to the period. It took me a while but I eventually discovered that the correct colour for Aussie webbing is no blanco at all. Apparently the Aussies never saw the point of all that extra work, just as they used tan boots so they didn't have to keep them shiny. So I have washed one set of webbing and scrubbed as much blanco out as possible. Now to hide the residual green and make it look unblancoed, I am going to have to blanco it. Can anyone else see the irony? I have incidentally recently dyed my Aussie uniform to green which would have matched the colour of my webbing and now my webbing will go back to a khaki colour which would have matched the original colour of my uniform. It will however look awesome The next planned webbing alterations are to get 2 more ammo pouches and sew them to the sides of the large pack, a trick common to both the Aussies and Chindits. Then I shall obtain a 5x 30 round Thompson magazine pouch and alter it to fit P37 webbing instead of the left ammo pouch. This will make an Aussie Owen gun mag pouch.

  17. I would suggest you have a hold of a few different assault rifles before making your choice. There are issues of ergonomics to each broad design type which may/may not suit you. Oh and check this out.

  18. What I wish new players would do is look at different guns and then ask us to suggest the best version of that gun for their budget. That way we would not be stuck with recommending combat machines. The G&G combat machine range are good beginners guns IF YOU WANT AN M4. For similar money you could get a Cyma AK, a JG G36... There are a lot of different guns available and it's fun to see what happens when you turn up to sites with anything other than an M4. I should know, I typically have a Sten and an SMLE and never have to be bored with no-one to talk to in the safe zone Can't wait until my Owen gun is ready, it's going to be a custom 1 of a kind and most people will have never heard of it.

  19. As far as the combat machine range goes just go for what you like the look of, they are all the same internally.

  20. Yeah, your friend is talking out of his arse. It's the older Ares guns you need to beware of and their M4 is an old design. I have a vintage Ares gun, an L1A1, and it is a real pain in the hole. The CM16 and CM18 are internally the same beast, iirc, so pick whichever's looks you prefer. You will not be disappointed by either. Is there a particular reason why you want an AR-15 variant? Have you tried shouldering any other assault rifles?

No I don't think I have tried Tullemore Dew, mate. I have enjoyed Laphroaig before though but the standard 10yr old is a bit of a hooligan, in the same way the Talisker is. For a more complex and smoother drop their Quarter Cask stuff is good...

  29. I don't do COD...it annoys me. Well, the outbursts from younger fans who think they know everything about guns and the military are what annoys me; they story modes are pretty good to be fair. So when the Honey Badger made its way onto the airsoft scene, all I could think was 'oh great, a new gun for codsofters. AM TEH BESTEST GNU EVAR FOR DA PRO OPER8OR.' And it is made by ares....not exactly known for great quality guns. Gave it no thought and assumed it would be pants. Went with my best mate to JD Airsoft in Cannock, Staffordshire for a supply run in Late November and to get a few parts and we did the obligatory look around the shop at all of the guns. I picked up the honey badger to take the mick out of cod fans thinking I was being all clever and anti-codsofter and I have to say it made a lasting impression on me. Made one or two other visits in between then and yesterday. Everytime, I picked it up and thought 'I hate myself for this, but I love it'. TD;DR - Honey badger is nice and I'm a presumptious dickhead So, the Ares Honey badger. I caved in and got one as my scar is down due to piston stripping issues and I am short of fixing time due to my current work schedule. This review is a preliminary review and will not feature a performance review until I have skirmished it in 2or 3 weeks time. It will be split up into the following sections: Aesthetics/Quality Ergonomics/Manouverability Customisation (Internal/external) Overall (Pre-skirmish rating) So, aestehtics. Have to say, it looks great. Sleek, rounded, smooth and well finished; it certainly looks the past of being a modern-tech weapon. The upper and lower receivers are made from high density polymer/plastic, however it is heavy and very sturdy; among the sturdiest of all the guns I've seen/handled. It is well finished and smooth. The handguard is cnc'd aliminium (I beleive) and is also well finished. The combination of the two make the gun sturdy and nice to look at. The actual gun is great; only issue with it is the supplied iron sights. Having owned several rifles, all of which came with adjustable sights, I have gotten used to good iron sights to rely on when optics fail. The honey badger's were taken straight off. They are awful. They will probably do the job but they are not adjustable, are cheap plastic and just look sub-par compared to the rest of the gun. First I did was add my Eotech and a pair of canted iron sights as the stock ones aren't worth having on there. Not a big issue, but for a £250 gun before battery and upgrades etc, I expected a little better. Ergonomics/Manouverability This section will see the honey badger compared to a UMP/SCAR CQC/MP9/P90, as these are guns that I have used, which are used in CQB which is the honey badgers primary role as it attempts to bridge the gap between assault rifle and smg. It's controls are only for right handed users. No fire selectors on the right hand side for lefties and only 1 mag release which is on the right hand side. It does, however, feel brilliant when shouldered. Some bigger players may struggle as the stock only comes so far out. I'm 5'8ish so it fits me perfectly. It is lightweight but has enough weight to it to not feel like a toy. In fact, it is very heavy for what it is made from. Its weight is great; can be held for long periods of time when setup right (setup will have a factor in customisation section). It moves very well. Compact size will make corners a breeze. Customisation Version 2 gearbox installed inside, so there are the usual internal gearbox parts available. Comes with an in built suppressor and a tightbore; no need to upgrade there but there are options if you want to change them. One of the best features of the gun is the quick spring change system. When changing a spring in the average aeg, you have to take the gearbox apart; which requires disassembley of the gun and gearbox, plus reassembley. With this gun, you take the stock off, and the then unscrew the spring guide from the rear of the gearbox. Done. 1 Minute max. Really makes it spring changes easy. There is plenty of rail space. The ameoba style handguard allows placement of its rails to be changed. It comes with a spare small and spare medium rail. Customisation is endless due to this. It really makes it easy to make a system that you can comfortably use. It looks great with no attatchments other than an optic, however first thing I did was add Eotech, torch, laser and an EGLM grenade launcher. I don't intend to use it but it fits perfectly and damn it looks badass! Overall (Pre-Skirmish rating) Having spent a lot of time looking over the gun, I have to say I love it. Great look and feel, smaller size, great manouverability and a very snapper trigger. Have to say, I cannot wait to skirmish this gun. Original fps was 280. After adding a madbull m100, it how hits 328 consistently with a max of 330 and minimum of 324 after around 25 shots through an xcortech chrono. One issue for some is battery space. I bought an 11.1v peq battery from JD airsoft which fits perfectly. The issue is the length of the battery space rather than width. Longer lipos wont fit and most if not all nimhs wont fit. I'd give it a prelimary rating of 8/10, losing marks for battery space, poor stock iron sights and plastic rails. To summarise, if you want something that looks incredible and unique, has a great r.o.f, very quick spring change system and is both light and sturdy, then this is a contender.

  30. Rental guns take a lot of abuse, but that said, airsoft sites want rental guns which 'take a lickin and keep on tickin', so buying the same make and model as a rental gun, whilst not a terrible idea, might not be the best thing to do, because rental guns are often not the most visually pleasing versions of a particular weapon, after all, the site cares more about robustness and reliability, because they'll be handing them out to all and sundry, including people who will drop them, smack them into walls, fire them too much on full auto, etc. But, since you are likely to look after your own weapon, you want something that is perhaps more impressive in terms of performance and looks, rather than being of merit for being robust, and that being the case, the G&G you linked to is an excellent choice, you'll do fine with that, and it is easily upgradable too, so it is a weapon which can grow with you. The Ares one would be a bad choice, it might cost more, but it is most definitely not a better weapon than the G&G one; it's less compatible with common parts than the G&G and in fact Ares, whilst quite nice visually, are notorious for having bad internal workings too, not in all cases, but it's a good general rule of thumb to be aware of, whereas G&G guns, and in particular their M4 variants, are notable for reliability and performance at a good price. Less impressive in terms of reliability are G&G's AK47/AK74 Kalashnikov variants, so if you wanted an AK type of weapon, then CYMA would be a good make to go for at the kind of price range you are looking at.

  32. as Esoterick says, rental guns have a hard life, no one really cares for them, they get used and abused. forgot to add, my only gripe with my Raider L, is i bought the wrong one, i should have got either the standard or the short version, as there is no advantage to the longer version ... it just weighs slightly more, and can sometimes get in the way etc.

  35. I'm weird. Not a gear-snob, but definitely outside most social norms. I classify sites by what I call their ACF, or Absolute Cock Factor. Roughly speaking the more often you find yourself thinking, "You absolute cock!" as a result of someone's behaviour/speech, the higher the ACF, and the longer I give it as a mental cross through future dates at that site. For sure absolute cocks can turn up new to the site, but if the general atmosphere maintained by the marshals is hostile to knobheadery, without being hostile to the perpetrators, they will be either on the bus or under it. Good marshalling takes more than just knowing the rules and how to pull players on infractions without turning into a jobsworth. Sites which maintain a good ethos tend to be run by people who have been involved in the sport for quite a long time, although that doesn't mean that the particular site has been operating for a long time, nor is experience a guarantee of good psychology - Anzio Camp for eg. Your best bet is to look for independent reviews of sites you consider visiting. We have reviews on here, although it is a somewhat neglected forum, or there's the FB group airsoft sites in the uk reviewed; not sure i'd take what gets printed in the likes of Airsoft International without a pinch of salt though...

  36. What exactly do you mean by "Massive weirdo", To be honest it sounds like you're being a bit judgmental. People that don't take hits are always annoying I agree... Lets be honest grown men shooting each other with toy guns isnt exactly the social norm, but its fun so who cares. So what if everyone isnt a super spec op killing machine, tagging every one just because they have expensive guns. it doesnt matter it just for fun.
