Personally think this is way overpriced -

especially when compared to

Which still, I think is hefty

First one is unreasonable IMO however after speaking with the guy on the second advert I think he had just bumped an old advert, apparently hes after £600 for it which I don't think is unreasonable by any means.

I think this is a parallel universe....

Not my taste per say but why do I feel the price is, while a little high, it's not THAT bad. Maybe I'm wrong.

The slide alone is £125 and you're still getting all the stock parts included.

Please re-educate me if I'm missing something...

The general thing people miss is that whether or not something costs £ X new, it does not equate to £ X used this includes 'upgrade' parts.  The accepted rule of thumb on this forum is generally 2/3s original price.  Hence, my PPS K98K which I have been contemplating selling cost me £450 new.  I have 5 mags at £50 each.  I wouldnt dream of asking full RRP despite it being skirmished only twice.

Oh yeah, I totally get that but by my reckoning everything listed there, new, would not be far from the £500 mark, maybe more.

So while, like I said, the price is a little high, it doesn't seem THAT bad. I wouldn't say it deserves to be called an alternate universe.

Out of curiosity, unrelated to that ad, how would you value modified/customised parts on resale. Factoring in man hours etc.

For instance if someone took a standard slide and customised if nicely. Something you couldn't just go out and buy but would require a bit of work to try and replicate?

That would depend on the quality of workmanship and the costs of the other parts its added too.

Obviously it would be extremely harder to sell modified or customised guns as the market is considerably less but what you ask for it would depend on what you thought was a realistic return.

Bearing in mind the buyer has not commissioned the project, you cannot expect to get a return that would equate to covering your full costs. again I would suggest 2/3rds of the cost to not be unreasonable but expect to haggle.

indeed, it's a tricky one, end of the day something's only worth what someone's willing to pay for it.

like my mg42 conversion, to comission a tech to do that would cost a lot given what's been done, but at the end of the day it's now a very specialised bit of kit that unless you really want that particular use case it's pretty much worthless.

Its like that gold revolver. I cant possibly see anyone paying the asking price for it. But someone will see it and decide they NEED it and buy it or make an offer!

Absolutely this.

It would be a really simple way to launder money.

100% this , I think ‘niche’ market sums your 42 up perfectly ? Don’t know about you lot but the sites I play it appears it’s only the ‘modern influence’ players running HPA , Evo’s/racing M4’s/etc so not the kind of players who’d want a WW2 support gun ?

very niche, although even more so as an hpa given that's going to ruin any interest from the re-enactors market. funny my logic was i wanted a ww2 gun and the mp40/stg didn't do it for me which left the k98 (and getting outgunned) or the 42 which i reckoned the 42 was modern enough to still be relevant (given it's lineage is still in service).

that said we had a showing yesterday from a ww2 russian commissar running a very nice ebb ppsh41, so there are folk out there willing to take on something different.

of course i'll openly admit if i want to actually be effective i'd still pick up the m4 over anything else, but then you can't play too seriously in this game.
