Just-Cos …. The insurance policy
Tommikka and 3 others reacted to Paranoiddroid for a topic
I'm assuming, That what they are doing is a repeat of the old 'Battle Orders' defence.. Essentially Just-Cos is acting as a 'cosplay group' and providing PLI to its members. The Home Office set the guidance for the 'reenactment' groups defence for RIF possession incredibly broadly and it requires PLI and group membership. The government doesn't want to get into refereeing what is reenactment and what isn't and groups like the 501st have been held up as examples of that defence being needed given how broad the VCRA wording is pretty much every scifi shows guns/blasters/gaus/whatever count as an RIF. The fact there isn't a Code of Conduct and they don't provide the full policy... Is going to bite them in the arse if anyone ever has to rely on that defence OR actually has to use the Insurance as that's generally required to be provided. I get a copy every year with my Military Vehicle Trust membership along with the limitations of what it actually covers for example and the LARP insurer I use when I run events has me provide those details to the players. I suspect if someone gets hurt it's going to be BAD on the day in court. As for the London idiot... I'm genuinely shocked he wasn't slotted given the amount of armed plod out there and man in tax gear with rifle seems to be something a truly urgent call should have gone out.4 points -

Maybe a "Tackle smells of cheese" or "I would swap a half eaten Mars bar for that" a "welcome" reaction for when new people join. A "boo hiss" to jovially disagree with someone. Wanted to make sure its doable first before blasting out requests.3 points -

Hey Guys, Thought I'd share, I received an angry pm from the op, which I responded to, explaining how things generally are here & why the thread rapidly went downhill, & that thread derailment, while common here, usually has a better outcome. As you can see, his response was measured, rational, & apologetic, & he ended it with "he'll keep his head down". Thing is, as a forum, I've never met a better bunch of more helpful guys, yes we never miss an opportunity to wind up or mickey take, but it's always with the best intentions. His response to ribbing was a knee jerk reaction, something we've all been guilty of at some time, but no one should feel they can't participate here, so let's move on ? So anybody actually had hands on with the aforementioned aeg ?3 points -
If airsoft grenades can reach up to 150 dB (for example at 1-2 meters, and I wear both earplugs and earmuffs (combined NRR ~31 dB), that still leaves around 120 dB reaching my ears — which is not safe3 points
-
It's highly unlikely anyone has done this due to the spectacular array of confounding variables. For example - EG say their MK5s are 120dB at 10m. Obviously the closer you get the louder it is and it's NOT a linear progression. Once you put that measurement into an enclosed space you change the way that the pressure waves behave so a small space can make the listener perceive a higher noise level than the same distance in the open. Add to that the material that any room is made from will also affect the way that the pressure waves behave and you have an enormous range of measurements to try and deal with. As for manufacturers "often claiming 140-150dB" I don't know that I've ever seen any pyro that is covered by site insurance that goes that high with the exception of things like the TAG grenades. More to the point, why do you want/need to know?3 points

For someone of the Walkman era, followed by gigs, festivals and clubs prior to playing with pyro (we’ll gloss over having Salisbury plain as my play ground and hunting dropped blanks to play with and blow stuff up) my ears are a lost cause If you are young / have good hearing then keep it that way Therefore use some form of hearing protection will help preserve hearing - (even the most basic foam will take the edge off) Be more careful indoors, open your mouth whenever near something about to go bang Avoid sites that will let people use high powered pyro indoors. When I began to play the norm was mk9s. But mk5 is perfectly fine, and if you cant hear that then your hearing is worse than mine Do bear in mind that the design of a piece of pyro contributes to its sound effect. Enolas Dr John can do very clever things with designing the chemical mix for explosive effect on how quickly / slowly it bangs, and then couple that with how packed the grenade is / how it directs the blast through the ‘tube’ and one way / two way blast A ‘lesser’ explosive can appear to pack a harder punch, and indoors is very different to the woods - not only being open / enclosed but also hard / soft surfaces bouncing or absorbing the blast/noise2 points

If one person needs to wear it due to the environment likely to be experienced on site, why doesn't everyone? ? Maybe you just didn't hear them? It's a pretty low risk, but it's both a cumulative one, and acute if something big goes off right by your ear. Purely personally anecdotally, I have mild tinnitus that's probably from biking - even though I always wear moulded earplugs - but which I didn't notice until I started earsofting, so, eh. Could be either, a bit of both, or something else that I'm not even aware of. I'm not going to get on a high horse about it, I don't wear ear protection while airsofting, but I would say that big bangs, like wankerguns, 40-Mikes and 10 billion lumen lights, are a lot more fun for the pitcher than the receiver.2 points

then wear active hearing protection, even something like a set of howard leights will make a mk5 or thunder b at your feet sound like a party popper (speaking from direct experience), keep your ears warm and protect them from bb's, the latter of which imo is by far the biggest factor. granted that's primarily outdoor play, so factor that in but i've never left an airsoft game feeling like there's hearing loss from it, the same cannot be said for rock concerts. think by far the loudest was a 9mm blank firer which was the games' McGuffin going off.2 points -

Looks like a simple case of falling foul of needing planning permission because the site structures fall outside of Permitted Development constraints. Seeking (retrospective) planning permission would then mean that the full use of the site is subject to consent, including traffic/transport considerations, and environmental aspects as well. To be honest, with good consultants I’m sure these concerns can be adequately rebutted, but that all costs money. I have to say, petitions in situations like this are somewhat pointless. Well thought out and logical letters written to local councillors (especially those on the planning committee) would likely be more beneficial.2 points -

Any chance we can have some more "reactions" options to posts please? I feel my range of emotional expression is being stifled by the lack of empathic and cognitive options to react to members topics and posts. By having more "reactions" it would improve mine and I sure other users experience of an already exciting and engaging community1 point -
They aren’t, nor are they providing PLI to members. It’s entirely ‘nod, nod, wink, wink’ and a for them to sell RIFs to non airsofters and charge people more for a non defence They even claimed on their website to ‘partner’ with a comicon organiser who had RIFs banned from their events The refund I eventually got was for being ‘too stupid’ to understand that it was a load of bollocks due to asking awkward questions about insurance1 point

A fair point, my experience is that active hearing protection was never something i felt necessary for its primary purpose, but the secondary benefits of warm ears, protection from bb's and the tactical look made it worthy for me. I'll openly admit loud noises arent a thing i typically am concerned about and will willingly listen to a rock concert at full volume even with the temporary loss, but i dont begrudge those who are less cavilier with their hearing.1 point -

Ahoy and welcome. I think you'll fit in well here. Sounds like some weird nerd stuff. Maaaaaaybe. The definition of a RIF is that it has an appearance that is so realistic as to make it indistinguishable, for all practical purposes, from: (a) a firearm of an actual make or model of modern firearm (whether existing or discontinued); or (b) something falling within a description which could be used for identifying, by reference to their appearance, the firearms falling within a category of actual modern firearms which, even though they include firearms of different makes or models (whether existing or discontinued) or both, all have the same or a similar appearance. What makes and models of actual ray guns currently exist, or are discontinued? ?1 point

methinks a "that's disgusting" aka throwing up reaction might be useful. maybe something a bit stronger than "careful now", for when a post truly needs actual negative emotion (that isn't the aforementioned vomit inducing disgust) the fact i can think of only negative reactions to add is definitely not a tell for my naturally glass-half-empty lookout on life........1 point -

Fair, the combination of earplugs and earmuffs is often more than just the sum of the two devices though: https://multimedia.3m.com/mws/media/893191O/earlog-13.pdf?fn=EARLog 13.pdf That shows that the NRR of combined devices can be as much as 50dB. The other thing to consider is situational awareness. If you're wearing ear defenders AND ear plugs to deal with a potential flashbang then you will NOT hear anything else. Attenuation due to distance is governed by an inverse square law which equates to 6dB per doubling of distance. Something that is 120dB at 10m will be 146dB at 0.5m (calculator here: https://www.wkcgroup.com/tools-room/inverse-square-law-sound-calculator/) IN OPEN SPACE! As for the Thunder B - while I can find references to "up to 130dB" I don't see anywhere that it says what distance that is measured at?1 point -
Even Thunder B is 125 db. Indoor at 1 meter .. idk 140-150? 120 db is enough to damage your ear1 point

The only brushless motors that come with unidirectional bearings (effectively eliminating the need for a mechanical ARL) are the Solink Advanced and V5 motors (the latter is also known as G5 under Gate's branding). Unless using the aforementioned motors it's utter bollocks to remove the ARL, so is a mechanical decocking feature like the one found on ICS guns because all these do is damage the tappet plate. It's much better (and safer for the gun's internals) to have an electronic decocking feature where the gun fires one shot with maximum AB to stop the piston fully forward.1 point

Rail fits via the 4 clamp points by the ejection port/magwell. Battery space is admittedly pretty tight but it fits (barely lol). If you plan on getting stuff for the handguard I'd recommend either cutting the screws down or buying shorter ones. I used 8mm M4 screws to stop any puncture issues. it's the 5KU Monolithic Rail. Installation is identical to this: EDIT: Sorry forgot to show battery space with all the shit attached:1 point

Doable, but I found that past a certain threshold (say 30 rps) it's much more convenient to build a DSG instead. I managed, by mistake, 36/37 RPS on a single sector gear running off 12:1s and 36k warhead but I had to shortstroke the sector by 4 teeth to achieve proper timing.. You will need a very good tappet plate and spring because the poor thing will be the most stressed component as it has to reciprocate at ludicrous speeds almost 40 times a second.1 point
