  6. Had a very long but enjoyable day at Special Ops' new CQB site. Day started off a bit pooh though with me arriving without my battery bag. So had to rag it home in the car to get back in time for the briefing. I lost track of the number of games we played, but numbers started off with around 20 players. This dropped off significantly at lunch time; then again at 4pm there was only 9, then at 5 ish there were only 4 of us. Game of the day fro me was the VIP games where teams took it in turns to get the drunk VIP from the pub to the car at the opposite end of the building. Lots of close calls and last minute reprieves for both sides to be had. Then we had various rolling retreats, TDMs and "Get to the Choppa" games. Once the numbers were down to single figures we had the pyramid game where each player on a team was given a number; which resulted in said numbers being the rotation of the players in the game. At the start player 1s would be 1v1, then when that player died, they'd get player two for their side and so on. 5th kill was the end. This was a great game as the sides were very evenly balanced with a speedy boi softer on each side, a youngling/first timer, an experienced slower player and someone in the middle. The twist was that the game was played 4 times and they rotated the numbers around so every player got a chance to be 1v1. When it was just the 4 of us left; I was the more experienced, and physically much bigger player. There was a 14 year kid who was tiny, but turned out to be a deadly shot with his Glock which he was using for most of the day. There was an American teenager on his first time and an older teenager who is a regular at the outdoor site. This American dude got a tooth shot out in the morning in a freak incident with his full face mask, but he got back in the game and seemed to enjoy himself. We had a blast of "winner stays on", 2v2, and a fun game where I was a guard patrolling the centre of the game area on a fixed path whilst the remaining younglings had to sneaky sneaky around to get to the bank to retrieve the gold. Little buggers were lucky that when they made a dash for it, one of the marshalls was in the way LOL. Get to the Choppa was an unmitigated disaster for our team as the opposition had Thomas - the notorious Special Ops runner - and twice in a row they won the game in less than a minute with barely a shot fired. In my defence, I nearly got them on their approach, but my pistol mag had decided (unbeknownst to me) vent itself and pulling the trigger resulted in sweet feck all. Due to my size I tended to stick out past walls and couldn't always duck low enough for cover. As a result, I was domed more times than I can remember. I also managed to get a BB up my nose. Which I didn't notice until talking to a player at respawn and it rolled out mid sentence, much to his humour and my surprise. Comedy moment of the day also fell to me as I snuck up behind someone in the Bank and stood there with my pistol pointed at him for a good 20 seconds deciding where to shoot him - which in the end was the back of his helmet. The overseeing marshall and I exchanged a knowing glance. 😎 Its a great venue. I think 30 players is the practical limit before overcrowding and bottlenecking becomes an issue. Ironically as the numbers dwindled the day got more fun. Not because of the players, but Carlos and the marshals adapted the games to match the players. I have never run pistols as much as I had today. The Specna is still having troubles, so I needed up with my Double Eagle as rifle of choice, one of my WE glocks isn't cycling properly; but fortunately I had a spare (of course) and the Boy's TM Glock also served me very well. I managed to get all my mags leak free so was well stocked with 6. Also the Double Eagle was throwing out .2s bang on 349FPS, and won me a few lovely kills, one of which was the 14 year old whose eye level was the same as the partially opened window of the delivery van - I got him from the far end of the building under the tail of the Choppa. The day was certainly better than I expected - as a Woodland player mainly - and getting game play from 10am to 6pm (including a lunch break) was great. Now i am resisting the urge to buy a better pistol and a tracer unit. My face and legs however look like a dot to dot picture, and the guy behind the counter of my local shop wondered what had happened. Hopefully they will go down before the big family Easter Dinner tomorrow LOL.

  14. On the cooker side of things, heard great things about alpkits bru kit, which is a copy of the jet boils and are about £50. I was always a fan of a hot chocolate flavoured protein porridge just before sleep, generally meant there was hot water for a metal bottle with a sock around it to act as a hot water bottle. Anything that helped me get good sleep in the 4-5 hours of rest I'd get was very welcome. Wet clothes were removed, but important clothes I'd have to wear again were generally added to my sleeping bag to dry them out (or at least keep them warm, warm wet clothes were better than freezing wet clothes).

I am offering for sale RFID Domination Timer (DOMINATOR) 2.0. Fully assembled device. It is a stopwatch in the style of a chess clock, which counts the time for which the active team has been on the point. Suitable for a game with 4 teams, can be modified for only 2 teams. Each team player is equipped with an RFID card or an RFID bracelet. RED, GRE, BLU and ORA (Red, Green, Blue and Orange Team) teams are integrated into the game. After attaching the tag to the reader, the player occupies the point and tries to keep it for as long as possible. After casting, time is added to the given team up to a maximum resolution of 99 hours, 59 minutes, 59 seconds. When a team is active on a point, its LED with its affiliation color is also lit. In addition to a member of the other team, the time counter can also be interrupted by the Referee with his card - he pauses the current time until the moment when the card is re-applied to a member of one of the teams, or the Eraser, which also resets all times. I deliver together with 30 RFID cards, while 7 cards are reserved for each team, one each for the Referee and the Eraser. I will send by post prepaid second class. It is possible to use only 2 teams in firmware so 14 cards per each team. The PCB is fitted with all components. The reader, microcontroller, and display can be replaced in the event of a malfunction by simply pulling it out of the pin strip without the need for soldering. Can be powered via a power bank. Power supply via a 9V battery possible after connecting to certain pins (soldering required). The PCB contains 6 mounting holes for the possibility of mounting the DOMINATOR on the wall or in wood. 4 of them use the display, can be replaced with a threaded rod. The device is neither waterproof nor waterproof. Must be operated indoors. The enclosure for the DOMINATOR is not designed. I also supply the .hex file for the microcontroller, so you can upload to the new microcontroller once you change it, but you can also copy it to more devices. So you can create multiple RFID Domination Timers around your Airsoft playground. Each of them will react on the same RFID cards. Firmware is compatible with Arduino Uno, Nano or standalone ATmega328P chip with external 16 MHz oscillator only). I am not sending PCB design, only available for firmware if bought separately. There is a cut-out in the back of the DOMINATOR through which you can access the potentiometer of the display and control its contrast. It is especially useful if the DOMINATOR is operated in the winter or, conversely, in the heat. It is always necessary to make a contrast correction at a given temperature, otherwise the display is unreadable (you will know that state if it is required.). The number of cards and bracelets in the system can be increased in the future, while I will have to create the firmware that will support them. There, the price is already individual. Domination Timer supports RFID cards and wristbands of the ISO/IEC 14443-A standard (MiFare 1K), which work at a frequency of 13.56 MHz. Price does include post fees.

Project description: Button Domination Timer (DOMINATOR) is a device - stopwatch for sports such as Airsoft, Paintball. The stopwatch uses an Arduino control microcontroller (Arduino Uno / Nano) or a separate chip (Atmel) ATmega328P, which controls the entire system logic. The stopwatch includes an LCD character display measuring 16x2 (16 characters x 2 lines), or 20x4, on which the times of individual teams are displayed. There are 2 teams in the game - RED team and GRE team that play against each other and occupy the imaginary point that is formed by this device - DOMINATOR. At the beginning of the game, the display shows the times 00 hours, 00 minutes, 00 seconds for RED team , GRE team . Button Domination Timer uses button input for the action of occupying a point by a team member, as well as for input of a referee and eraser entity. Thus, a total of 4 buttons for 4 system entities. Buttons are connected in INPUT_PULLUP mode. Pressing the button feeds the GND signal to the Arduino digital input terminal (Active-LOW switching signal). In the basic version, Domination Timer responds immediately to a press - the time counting for a given team is activated (the length of the press, the number of presses, etc. are not verified ...). The times are displayed on an LCD character display measuring 16x2 or 20x4, which communicates with the control microcontroller via the I2C bus. If a team member of the RED team occupies a point by pressing a button, a buzzer is triggered, which announces a change in the point with a short beep. Then the RED team's LED at this station will light up and the display will start adding time for that team. If the point is occupied by the GRE team and a team member presses the appropriate button, the buzzer sounds again, the GRE team LED lights up, the RED team time is paused and the GRE team time is calculated, which point he occupied. If the organizer (referee) presses his button, both times are paused until a member of one of the teams makes user input. This type of input is thus suitable for starting a break, but can also end the game for evaluation. Button Domination Timer has a fourth button for the eraser entity, which pauses and resets both times to initial values as after starting the Button Domination Timer stopwatch. Used to restart the game, initialize a new game. The project is suitable for Airsoft events, sports facilities, or Airsoft teams, which can build the equipment. The advantage of the Button Domination Timer system is that it can be cloned and create X points with the same configuration via machine code, which can be loaded into an unlimited number of Arduino boards and chips and guarantees identical application operation. Players can thus score more points in the game, while at the end of the game the time is added up as long as which point was occupied by which team. There isn't available PCB design for that project. The principle of functionality of the Button Domination Timer project on the hardware side: Buttons are connected in INPUT_PULLUP mode, they use an internal 20 kΩ PULLUP resistor, which holds the logic level HIGH on the digital input. When the button is pressed, the LOW signal is fed to the digital input. Based on the button type and the firmware version used, the Arduino can verify the button hold length, while the counter logic is executed independently (the counter is active while the button is held). When the condition of the change at the point is met, the Arduino triggers a buzz, applying digital states to the LEDs. System logic is executed every 1000 ms - 1 Hz routine (timed via the millis() function, i.e. via Timer 0), regardless of the state of the digital inputs. In this routine, an active team check is performed, followed by time. Time is dynamically plotted on a 20x4 or 16x2 LCD character display. Display communicates with the Arduino via an I2C bus with a clock signal (SCL) of 100 kHz - Standard Speed. Rewriting of the display thus takes up to approx. 15 ms, while only the line of the given team that is active at the point is overwritten. With serious interest, the firmware for DOMINATOR can be extended to 3 or 4 teams. Delivery of firmware of Button Domination Timer: Software is delivered in machine code (.hex) at your mail for the ATmega328P architecture. It's compatible for Arduino Uno or Nano boards, or you can use standalone ATmega328P chip. Machine code cannot be modified on your side. I have two versions of firmware, one is for button press, other is for button hold for action. Button hold is limited to 5 seconds, it can't be modified on your side. I send both versions of firmware to each customer. Firmware (.hex file) can be uploaded to microcontroller via Xloader: https://www.hobbytronics.co.uk/arduino-xloader Or more experienced users can use AVRDUDE via console. For Arduino boards use 115200 baud/s upload speed. For Arduino Nano V3.0 clone use 57600 baud/s (Old Bootloader), otherwise firmware will be not uploaded. Maximum time range that Button Domination Timer will show on display: 99 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds Power consumption: approx. 20mAh with 5V power supply. Convenient to power via power bank, charger from a phone with USB output. Shareware firmware Project can be tested for free with your hardware before buy or payment. There is available firmware on project's website. Firmware let to use project will all 4 entities (RED, GRE teams, Referee, Eraser), there is limitation of measured time up to 15 seconds for each team. It is mainly used to test whole compatibility of firmware with your hardware. In test version you can't test version of firmware with button hold (5 seconds of button hold to do change on point). Buttons in shareware version reacts immediately on press. Full project (paid) is available without time limitation, max visualised time: 99 hours, 59 minutes, 59 seconds. Firmware have implemented AUTO-I2C, so you can use any I2C LCD character display, it will automatically detect it. Also if you don't have hardware right now, you can try Shareware firmware of Button Domination Timer directly in Wokwi simulator for free: https://wokwi.com/projects/333897447732413011 Project website (available firmware, schematics, etc...): https://martinius96.github.io/Airsoft-DOMINATOR-RFID/en/button-dominator.html Hardware for the project - Button Domination Timer: Arduino Uno / Nano / standalone ATmega328P chip LCD character display 20x4 / 16x2 I2C converter for LCD display Passive buzzer (optional) 2x LED diodes 2x resistors (1x 220ohm for GREEN LED, 1x 1kohm for RED LED) 2x pullup resistors (optional for I2C bus) 4x pushbutton (connected in INPUT_PULLUP mode of operation using internal resistors)

  31. I've never had any real issues with Evike and I sometimes use them for weird, niche parts for my weird, niche guns (looking at you, KJW m700...). That is not to say I don't have any issues, but the issues I do have don't tend to be too bad. The UPS experience does sound similar to what I've had. Have to fill in lots of paperwork for things that by law don't require any paperwork and then get extorted for money in admin fees, VAT and import duty. What helps to cut down the cost if you're patient enough is to order from Evike Europe, and if they don't have the part on their website you can request an item from the US website to go onto the Europe website, though that generally takes a few months. Will still take the same length of time to arrive, as they ship a lot of stuff from their US warehouse anyway, but the shipping is cheaper and if you order over €150 the shipping is free (still get stung on taxes and fees when it comes into the UK though). I'm at least part of the reason there's a bunch of m700 parts on their Europe website because I requested them in advance of me needing them

  32. I once looked up the ingredients of WD on the German TuV website. I think that it was 50%ish thinners; so an effective penetrant and degreaser. It will make steel corrode over time, and rots rubber. Given that stainless steel skinned Atlas rockets were deployed in San Diego, I dunno why people use this to lube or protect. Stopping 304 stainless steel from corroding in a climate that doesn't drop below about 10 deg. C isn't something that's exactly difficult. 3-in-1 comes in different grades now too, light and heavy. I think that the tin you inherit from your Grandfather is light.

Realised I had the parts to make something interesting. For your consideration: an alt-history Olive Drab AR-15 Dissipator build. Imagine the chopped short M16s from the Vietnam-era became standard issue all the way to the A4 variant. Then make it a lovely military-ish green. Recently a real steel Dissipator (that's an AR-15 with a 16 inch barrel and a full rifle-length gas system) was released for sale by Anderson Arms, and this video popped up on my YouTube feed. I really love the full-length-but-shorter look of a Dissipator, and I think sticking on an A2 handguard and a full stock makes it look a lot more military than the Magpul equivalents I had on it previously. What do you think?

  49. I'm sure these easy ways to work stuff out is pretty damn accurate & no calculator or degree in mathematical engineering required I have checked them and the gears ratio saves a major headache indeed (unless you love counting up tiny teeth - 21 22 23 23 - no crap start again 1 2 3) Count amount of turns on bevel gear to rotate the sector gear 1 full revolution & multiply by 3 checked this against stock, high speed & high torque gears - works out very well and finally figured out wtf all them 100:200 & 100:300 gears bloody mean as well Then just recently noticed how the port on cylinder kind of works out right without all that Pi r ² crap working out volumes of cylinder & barrel and ratios etc.... So please have a look and if your own gun is running well see if the cylinder port bit makes sense eg: length to port minus 12mm aprox = say 30mm.... multiply that final figure by ten - yeah I think you shouldn't need calculator for that one = 300mm barrel for that port position yes there a few variables eg: Tight Bore & Bore up kits but in general these will only throw out figures on volume ratio by about 1% to 1.5% max on each variable.... I have checked this against a few cylinders that are for certain barrels and it works out very well indeed (it is that simple to me I dunno why peeps bother with old π r ² x cylinder/barrel length) plus some programs for calculating ratios are not easy to understand or don't seem to work out right to me (bit where you enter or measure cylinder length or port is a little unclear to me) plus people saying oh yeah a 3/4 cylinder is for 363 to 410 - wtf ? 3/4 is not exactly very pinpoint accurate and range of nearly 2 inches is also a little wide too ffs I think it is nigh on there with the 12mm figure subtraction is about correct - but the cylinder should have AOE done (Should really do AOE anyway is the general feeling) This adds aprox 4-5mm to say 6mm on cylinder head inside the cylinder itself - never mind go with 12mm for now ffs (O-ring sits aprox 2mm back from piston and is what creates the seal really so just go for 12mm - trust me) anyway here are the pics that should be speak for themselves give us any feedback if you can though chaps..... & cheers for any feedback even if I am talking out of my ar$e one more Just thought if anybody was putting together a gearbox these could come in handy to suss out what gear ratio you putting in there (in case you forgot or lost the packet they came in) and also if you got a cylinder knocking about but unsure what barrel it is supposed to be used with etc.... Yes they ain't 101% accurate but imho these 2 quick tests are bloomin' close without all the maths EDIT - make that figure aprox 15mm NOT 12mm - my very bad 12mm is piston but aprox 3mm further back from piston is center of O-ring which in effect is where the compression is created or rather not created until it passes the end of port - therefore it is the O-ring's start & finish or travel is what we are trying to work out So measure front of cylinder to port and subtract 15mm not 12mm - then multiply by 10 = ideal barrel range chaps EDIT - 2018, after reviewing my crap I revised this to 15mm for 0.20's and say 20mm subtraction for say heavier 0.30's
