As a young squaddie in the early/mid eighties I dreamt about owning a pair of these, but could never justify them as they would have cost me about 3 weeks wages, or beer tokens as they were better known? (no such thing as dry January back then, or any other month lol?)3 points -

General HPA question...
gavinkempsell and one other reacted to Krisz for a topic
Correct. You have to gut a gas magazine for certain bits to able to run it on HPA though. You could tap each magazine as well but no one does it nowadays it's just not an efficient way to play. Grip line is an hpa engine.2 points -
I agree with the underarm only and no higher that waist height. It's a big ol chunk of metal so it's still gonna suck if you kneecap someone with it, nevermind anywhere else. I've never used my impact BFGs (or any BFGs) outdoors for fear of losing it. Never had one not go off when indoors with the exception of dud blanks.2 points

Just doom-scrolling through my YT feed, and a review of a similar grenade suggests there's a fair chance it won't go off unless it hits something hard. So bouncing it off noggins will just have to be done! Anyway, as YT seems to know what I'm typing elsewhere, I'm just off to make a nice tinfoil hat and pair of gloves2 points -

The dark alley treatment is too good for that piece of lowlife scum! I’ve also reported his channel. I cannot for the life of me think what goes through some people’s heads that makes them want to do anything like what he has done/said. A lot of mental health issues out there! Don’t comment or react to his video, as that’s what these pieces of shit thrive on! Just a nice silent report to YouTube and hopefully he gets removed, until he makes another channel. Hopefully karma issues him as awful a fate as poor Ollie has been dealt.2 points -

As with TAG rounds, they'd be the sort of things that I'd expect to be restricted to well managed milsims where all participants are over 18 and have given informed consent to being around them. A typical skirmish day is full of kids and chucklefucks, and nothing capable of crippling the most vulnerable participant (shooting glasses and no earpro) has any business even being on site at all.2 points -
V1 gearboxes and nozzles
gavinkempsell reacted to Egon_247 for a topic
"do you know what nemesis means?" Yup. So I bought an old TM famas off a chap on here as I love the famas and it's Lego esque looks. I've worked on all my pews, v2, v3, v6 & v7 gearboxes and now I'm onto a v1. Now the guy I bought it from didn't touch it from the day he bought it 2nd hand, but someone has been in there as there was a few things different from the Oem TM spec. Got it all swinging pistons but the balls just fall about 8 feet away. New maple leaf+nub in the hop, barrel spotless but the nozzle is perplexing me. The v1 TM box is an oddball with not many parts out there in internetland. The nozzle is a 20.7 BUT has a 9mm base onto the tappet plate (which is huge! I'm going to measure it and see if I can 3d print a spare as this could be a show stopper if it breaks!?). Now I'm sure there's some guys on here that have played with them before but am I screaming into a bucket here with this one? (No, I'm not going to hpa it ??) Taaa. Pic, cos you know, lego. ?1 point -
See here for a starter FAQ on HPA: As per the above posters, converting an airsoft gun to HPA would generally be: AEG - Designed to operate an electric motor that runs a piston to create a small quantity of compressed air into a chamber to launch your BB Convert an AEG with an HPA engine, which is fed from an air system. The AEGs magazine only contains BBs, which means you can still switch magazines as required Gas - Designed to operate with a small quantity of gas released into the chamber, typically pre-filled in a pressurised compartment of the magazine allowing you to prefill your chosen number of magazines and switch as required Converting these involves replacing the magazine fill valve with an HPA valve nipple then running a feed from an air system while you play. As GBB magazines contain their BBs and gas, which gets replaced by the air feed then you can either just use one magazine (which would be the norm) or need to detach & re-attach the airsource if you change magazine for more BBs Of course you could use a sealed HPA valve and pre fill an amount of compressed air enabling you to fill and swap magazines - but it won’t be capable of holding full HPA pressures and would have limited HPA shot capacity as the stored air decreases pressure with each shot (other typical gases generally go to a liquid state when filled under pressure in the magazine, expanding in their gaseous state as released to the firing chamber Dedicated HPA guns are designed from the start to operate with compressed air, and can have their nipple feed in a ‘convenient’ location These may have integral regulators embedded in the gun allowing for the cylinders standard output to be fed into the nipple, or as seen on most airsoft HPA systems in the classifieds need an inline regulator as well ensuring a lower operating pressure is delivered to the gun1 point

I'd very suprised if your impact would go off on a regular basis outdoor. The whole concept is that you need a hard surface to make it work. I play indoor only but you have to follow multiple rules because that thing is lethal if you yeet it. ? Under arm, defo below waist height, no yeet, preferably you check xy corner/room/etc. before you post it so you don't injure anyone. It's really limited how you can use it even indoor let alone outdoor when you can have massive distances.1 point

General HPA question...
_K4MF_ reacted to Mad dog 49 for a topic
When you tap a GBBR to run on HPA, you are just replacing the source and type of gas from green gas to compressed air. If you have a magwell adaptor, it goes in the magwell and your free to use a normal hi cap or mid cap mag as the gas is no longer stored in the magazine, it is now fed into the gas parts either by a hose that is part of the adaptor or, by replacing the magazine gas fill valve with an hpa adaptor valve. Of course, if you use a fill valve replacement, you still have the low capacity of a gas mag but you are pumping hpa compressed air through the mag instead of filling it with green gas.1 point -

Forget the tinfoil hat, to resolve your YouTube data harvesting you need to make a tinfoil faraday cage phone case. https://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Faraday-Cage That’ll fool them But on topic, as above an impact grenade with underarm throws in woodland is less likely to go off. Regarding a potential greater use of smoke over bangs, it’s generally down to the ‘effectiveness’ of the different forms of pyro. Even if a smoke cloud turns out to be ineffective (due to wind or just watching instead of using cover) it is at least pretty and gives an ‘atmosphere’. In the woods a general haze will hang in the air for longer Bangs just make a noise, and unless there is an elimination rule within a radius, or room/bunker clearance (and acted upon) then they are just noise. Noise can be a distraction, but often only truely an effective distraction in fairly enclosed areas - often just another noise in the woods among all the other skirmish noises Pyro can be fun though. If you’re enjoying (safely) playing with it then that’s what can make it worthwhile1 point -

RostokMcSpoons reacted to Rogerborg for a topic
Nah, I wouldn't bother with an impact in woodland, unless they have lots of solid-floored structures that people need winkled out of. The usual airsoft rule applies: don't send it out in any way that you wouldn't want it coming in.1 point -
To achieve optimal results you will have to fuck around with voluming For a bodge, I guess slap the supplied 120 spring in there and give it a go. Won't be pretty, but again it's a bodge. I do recommend you do things correctly, it'll preserve your internals and up the overall performance of the gun. Specna gearboxes aren't the strongest so correct voluming will avoid premature breakages (as of now the piston impacts when the BB has long left the barrel, which means that it'll dump its whole energy onto the cylinder head, which in turn transfers it to the front of the gearbox). You could also knock a few teeth off the sector to bleed some extra air volume.1 point

Mines a TM. Also there is a design flaw with the AEG Famas with the hop unit. It has a characteristic with bb's heavier then .25/.28 (Dependent on individual example) Where the BB will not travel in a straight line, but rather has a "Lobbing" characteristic. There is no known fix for this. The hop design was literally the first mass produced popular hop unit equipped Airsoft Rifle, so it does have intricacies!1 point

Army Armament R34 light striking with WE Mags?
Airsoftt reacted to The_Lord_Poncho for a topic
Ok, problem solved! A bit of a roundabout way to get there, but I ended up buying a WE Glock17 Gen 3, and then fitting the army Armament R34 slide to it (fits perfectly), hand stippling the WE lower to match the Taran Tactical/JW2 look with a soldering iron (dead easy, and looks really good), and fitting the flared magwell from the Army Armament to the WE (again, fits perfectly). Pistol now works well with all mag types - highest FPS with WE and Action Army/AAP, slightly lower with army armament magazines. The magazines mostly have flat routers, and the BBU is curved as the original mags have curved routers, but this doesn't seem to be an issue as far as I can tell.1 point -

Version 1 is more or less done. Im probably gonna change around the grip texture and the non reciprocating charging handle needs something to hold it forwards while the gun is running but its fully useable as is. Minus the fact its missing a few bolts but its too late at night for me to want to fire up the soldering iron and put the threaded inserts in.1 point -

If you are seriously considering using them, please have a long, hard think about WHY you want to use them. When you have done that, if you still want to use them, join the army. I have spent quite a bit of time messing around with serious pyro; no airsoft players should be allowed anywhere near a MK9.1 point -
Is this a serious question? "185 dB of sound pressure at 1m" That's instant, permanent, hearing damage and tinnitus, plus traumatic brain injury. Wanting to use one "in airsoft games" is a great argument for why you shouldn't be able to get your hands on one. Frankly, I'm not even happy with Mk5 bangs in game, given the foreseeable risk of one going off right next to someone's head. Mk 7 and above have a 20 metre safe distance, for reasons that should be ear-bleedin' obvious.1 point

If you have training you can use P2 category pyro, but whether and Airsoft site would allow it I don't know.1 point

It took a while to get me back to the bunker. It was a collection of little things that put me off, lots of shouting, pushing the game too hard, marshals stripping people of any kind of stealth tactics by walking up behind them and shouting "move, move, come on lets push forward", which is all well and good until you're wielding a single pistol and there are 8 opposition players around the corner with rifles and lovely little camping areas, waiting to pepper the life out of you. It started to seem as though there was an element of clique-ness and there were becoming rumours that certain people were managing to skip chrono, resulting in hot RIFs on the field, which isn't particularly fun in such a close quarters environment. I might add that I'd never experienced a hit from anything that felt like a hot gun, and the chrono issue may have been only rumours, but with everything building a gloomy picture of the place I decided to take time away from it. I had an experience where I had a few duff flash-bangs from their onsite shop, not a big issue. I had a quick chat with one of the staff, to let them know more than anything, he decided it was much more appropriate to call me out in front of everyone, telling me I had no idea how to strike a fuse and that there was nothing wrong with them, despite the fact that they were all damp from storage. It irritated me, because I'd always recommended them as a site to visit, we'd played regularly on an almost weekly basis at one point. The flash-bang incident was the icing on the cake. Going in last night the atmosphere was much different, it was calm, the marshals were respectable, visible and in the right places at the right time, the briefing was prompt and to-the-point and the game play was well managed. I felt like the night was for the players, like it once used to be, really enjoyed myself. Even if you only go once, it's worth a game for sure. As for Valiant, that one is on my list of "places to visit". I did the Vendetta site in Gloucester and absolutely loved it, a number of our team have done Valiant already and they loved that too!1 point
-
I've been going to the bunker semi-regularly for over a year. I like the site, it's quite unique and presents a good challenge, especially when navigating it and even more so when flash-bangs has filled the place with lingering smoke. I did stop going for a while because the atmosphere didn't fit what I liked, lots of cheating, lots of poor player attitude etc. I went again for the first time in some months, last night. They've shaken things up a bit, new leadership, some new game formats, new furnishings, new attitudes. I've got to say I really enjoyed it and will continue to attend The UCAP Bunker. It's reasonably priced, accessible, easy close parking, plenty of space for setup and challenging play.1 point
