  1. Much better day this week. It was the Worthing christmas game, so had a few people dressed up, my mate donned his bright green suit that was originally for AI (green team of course 😁). I ran my mp5k with a new stock and loudener, which was nice to shoot and loud af, as intended, and had a little ribbon bow to dispense christmas cheer at 1.1j. Though I have found the connection point on my hpa line has a leak, so I needed to top up at lunch, when I can usually run two game days on one tank of air. Also my aap01 with a front grip thing. Shoots nice but has some feeding issues. Still, lots of fun, lots of running around, no chances to be sneaky with an elf hat and a nice red cloak. Got swapped to the other team for one game after lunch, and it was of course one of the best smoke grenade throw of my life 🤣

    Returning to airsoft

Welcome back 🖐 Pity about your old toys being destroyed. 1. Do a search on the forum as there have been many discussions about 'best starter gun' In brief I would suggest to look at JG, CYMA, SpecnaArms and (Double Eagle for certain models) Painful as it is, we would always recommend renting for your first 3 games to get UKARA registered again. It will also let you see (and probably try) some other toys to get an idea what's out there now. 2. Yes, I think most Baofengs need to have their frequencies adjusted to legally use without a license. But most sites have a radio license which kind of covers you I believe. I'm sure someone will give more detailed advice. 3. Not sure on this one. Google search? I'm sure others will chime in...

  3. @Jedi_Master & @proffrink I have been playing whack-a-mole with the spammers for the last couple of days. I've nuked loads, I'm sure the other spam moderators have done the same. Can we lock the ability for new users to create new threads without approval from admin/spam moderator? So they create a new thread - but a admin/spam mod has to approve that thread to show to the wider masses? We would be able to tell pretty quicky if these are legit users, and the 'probationary' period will end if we are satisfied that what they post is appropriate to the forum.

  4. Hello everyone, I have recently decided to come back to the beloved sport of airsoft. It has been 6 years since I last played. Unfortunately all my guns are destroyed from rust and bacetria build up of being kept in the basement for so long. 7 of us are returning back and feel as though we have lost all of the knowlege we had built up in the 7 years period we played. We need some advice please. 1. We are looking for a decent starter guns, preferably not more than £300. We don't know what brands are good at the moment on the market. Also of course all our UKAARA has expired and I am guessing that leaves us with two tones Unfortunately for now? 2. We have been looking at radios and thinking for buying the baofengs, however if I recall accurately they required some sort of programming procedure that seemed complicated to us at the time. 3. Also where is the best places to purchase MTP outfits. We would prefer the MTP type. Some advice for the clothing accessories would be greatly appreciated.

  6. I can't really add much to the advice above but if your pews are knackered (in your eyes), list them for sale in the classifieds here, some of us (ok, me) buy for a collection and never expect to use them in game. I'm probably a typical newbie to airsoft and bought too much stuff (no regrets), I found clothing & kit easy enough to find on fleabay and cheap enough to buy (I'm a big fat lad & still found clothing in my size).

    Help! Which MP5?!

Evenin’ all. I’ve been trying to ignore the urge but it’s just inevitable…I need an MP5 in my life, so come the new year (when I’ve hopefully recovered from the financial stress of Christmas) I will be buying one. But which?! Ideally I’d like a full metal A5 variant with the sliding stock. Will be looking to build it up with a slightly modern twist - thinking m-lok hand guard to allow for a light and stubby fore grip, suppressor, top rail with RDS etc. so needs to be a model that will be compatible aftermarket accessories. The obvious choice would be the TM NGRS MP5A5. I know you get what you pay for and it will be the most realistic option with the ‘recoil’ and the dead click on empty, but I think the TM is going to probably out of my budget unless I can get a good deal on one second hand. Ideally don’t want to spend more than £300 (even that could land me in the dog house 😬😂). So I guess my question is, what would your recommendations be given the above criteria? Seems there are a lot of options out there and I’m still relatively new to the the hobby, so still learning which brands/models are worth bothering with and which aren’t. Any help is greatly appreciated 🙏

Cant comment on the VFC M4 platform, but the WE XM177 is basically the same as my WE based builds and I'm more than happy with performance of them . Spares are also easy to get , not that I've needed any for mine.

  18. You could list the material kit on eBay, seen plmety of bundles or single items. Viper kit does alright on there. Just fill the item title and description with as many relevant key words as you like. Just mind out for eBay fees when you price things up. If you qent the ebay route I'd recommend putting all the Woodland stuff in one group, mtp in another and a final one for the black pouch/other bits. Happy selling. Or if you can wait a bit longer into 2024, Red Alert in Berkshire usually run quarterly bootfairs, or you have the Midlands airsoft fair - and I'm sure there's plenty of other sites that hold bootfairs out there. They'd potentially easier to sell the RIFs at.

  21. Sure. We have a Classifieds section at https://airsoft-forums.uk/classifieds/ - you might need to make a few more posts before getting access to it (or you might not). Where you list it within there is another question. It's got a bit of everything. Folk tend to list under the highest value component, e.g. the M4 (or the Hi-Capa), but that flags up the issue, that you're looking for someone who wants all of it, and those can be tricky to find. It's more effort, but if you want to get something back, I'd suggest splitting it into: M4 + mags + sight + battery + charger in https://airsoft-forums.uk/classifieds/category/4-electric-rifles/ Hi-Capa + mags + holster in https://airsoft-forums.uk/classifieds/category/7-gas-pistols/ Everything else in https://airsoft-forums.uk/classifieds/category/15-gear/ I get that you'd rather have it all gone at once, but if you list it as all-or-nothing, you're likely to get offers for what people actually want, with everything else considered to be a free gift.

Destroyed is a pretty strong word. Unless a gun has been snapped into several pieces i would never consider them unsalvageable. It would be worth looking for a Tech near you to fix the guns. That won't run fowl of the VCRA as you already own them, it should be cheaper than having to rent then buy new guns and if you don't get back into airsoft you have sellable guns.

    Returning to airsoft

Ahoy and welcome back. 1. If you've been out for 7 years, I would have to wonder how likely it is that all 7 of you will stick with it the 2nd time round. So I'd agree with the suggestion to rent, at least for a game or two, to see if this is a renewal of your vows, or a quick booty call. Renting can look expensive, but when you consider that you'd be buying the BBs anyway, it's only actually £10-£15 for renting the gun, plus support for it, for the day. That's cheap compared to trying to sell on any RIF, or worse, an IF. 2. If you do want to buy, I agree with the list above. The cheapest M5xx M4 CYMAs have very cheap plastic bodies (although robust internals), anything above that from those brands will be fine. Baofengs UV-5Rs are decent but contain more functionality than needed. They can be programmed by hand, although it's somewhat time consuming. A £7 programming cable (eBay can provide) makes it easier, and allows downloading the same frequencies to multiple handsets. If you want to skip all that, they do a simpler range that's locked to the PMR frequencies. 3. Dunno, DPM is best P.

  30. If I was in the market for an MP5 AEG - I would be looking at the ICS CES-P series - when they are back in stock. They have stamped steel welded receivers, and spares are readily available from Fire-Support. I wouldn't bother ICS' cheaper metal offerings (pot metal) as they are pretty easy to snap in half with the crap design of the front end. Other brands, like JG and Cyma are ok for the money, but I've seen lots of threads on broken mag releases and stocks over the years - and spares can be tricky to find in stock with UK vendors. Classic Army might be a good shout now they are flowing more freely into the UK. It seems that CA have now have remembered that they are actually an Airsoft manufacturer, having spent over a year exclusively making PPE for Covid. Zero One recently added Classic Army guns to their stock inventory: https://www.zerooneairsoft.com/products/Classic-Army-MP5-A5

  32. I agree, & I know frig all about vpn's etc, but at the same time trying to advertise the services of a witch doctor etc on a UK airsoft forum doesn't exactly scream "sophisticated", there's always the possibility that this wave of spammers is nothing more than a poor attempt at data harvesting by ill informed chancers who don't have the best masking technology. Now if they had created some convincing looking posts offering cheap tactical kit or gnu's, with pics showing them being modelled by an airsoft god such as myself 😏, they'd have got loads of hits.

    THE TM MWS thread

I registered just to reply, so I hope it helps. Your second issue is probably caused not by hop up itself, but by nozzle guide on top of BCG. Every time bolt is returns to battery front of the nozzle guide catches on hop up wheel and it moves it a little. Just file it down a little and it should be good.

  34. @Jedi_MasterMaybe it's time then to start with the "moody country" ip ban, see if that makes a difference, if it does, great, if not, consider other options. It seems like the easiest option initially, requiring not much mod work once set up. Although it does make me wonder about sites like zeroin, while it's a bit of a ghost town of late, don't see any spam popping up, wonder how they've filtered or blocked it ?

  36. You should definitely try the same experiment with a lipo instead of a nimh. Also a lipo alone to see how much the caps compensate for the NiMH batteries. Conducting the experiment on the same set up allows you to compare where others would have to do the entire suite of tests from scratch. I posit there would still be some benefit to be had, esp if the capacitor esr could be reduced. Certainly you don't need that much capacitance, but the esr gets higher with smaller caps because the electrode area decreases so its tricky to find parts with small size enough capacitance and high enough rated voltage. I used anti surge xt90s on drones because of the surge of current into the electronics when batteries were connected, it was quite a pop connecting 20Ah of 26v to the things, im doubtful there's enough draw with caps, unless you get their esr down.

  42. @The DrabOlive I've had a load of pistols, still do, but first couple of years of playing prob had 6 I think, 3 different brands, ksc, kjw, we, best of them was my ksc G19, & then one day a regular at the chain of sites I used offered me a tm hi-capa 4.3 with 3 mags for £70, had a try on the edge of the safezone, it was actually acrisse, a military training area near Folkestone, middle of winter & absolutely freezing. First few shots I'm like "wow, that's got some snappy kick", & hitting small targets at 30m+. Emptied all 3 mags, 24 bb's in each, without missing a beat I FREEZING TEMPERATURES!!!! 😲. Bought it there & then, still using it probably 20 years later. Buy whatever you like the look of, BUT First buy a tm hi-capa, that way you've always got a perfect secondary to go back to when the others let you down.

  43. From experience, the AA R17 mock-Glock is decent for the (very low) money. From observations, the R608 has (or had) one fragile part that doesn't stop it working. There's no airsoft brand that I've used that I would give an unqualified recommendation for, as... That's a realistic view. If I wanted to minimise surprises, I'd spring the little extra for a TM pistol, simple as. I've tried a TM G17 and the trigger is much crisper than my AA. But... they both sling BBs downrange. It's airsoft, everything is a daft waste of money.

  44. So, imagine you're having a firefight with another player, 40-50 metres away, they have a a similar level of cover as you. They have effectively unlimited ammo from their 8 high cap magazines, you have 210 bbs before you are effectively are out of action. You're firing 3-4 single shot groups at them with a rifle that recoils....they are sending 20 bbs back in a single burst, every few seconds..... While the aeg user can fire continuously you have to stop every 35 bbs to change your mags, ensuring they're reindexed cause a dump pouch with that much weight will bounce around making movement hard. The noise from your rif is attracting the attention of other enemy players that are nearby, the noise of their aeg is barely detected by other players on your team. Everytime you change mags, you need to make sure you aren't double feeding, you need to ensure the bolt is forward....if the aeg player has to change mags, it's simple one out one in, very little to go wrong. Moving from position to position takes more effort from the weight of the mags (I'm comparing my mws to my recoils), crouching takes more effort etc. While your position is getting hammered with bbs, you're changing your mag, your admining your kit, you're keeping an eye out for other players you aren't focused on the guy shooting at you......all while you're his singular focus. Who is more likely to win that firefight? There's so much more to think about with a gbbr. I'm not knocking aeg users, I've had to sell my gbbr and only have aegs but it is like being on easy mode in comparison. It's such a different experience, but that's the great thing about the sport, we all play for our own reasons, some like to rack up kills, some like to snipe, some like the challenge of using a gbbr.
    1 point
  45. The mags are generally limited to 35-44 bbs (the mags contain gas, which power the gun), the mags are much heavier, so it's harder to carry a bunch of mags, so generally you have 5-6 mags at most, so your total amount of loaded bbs is 210 vs someone with a 400 round hicap or dudes rocking 5-6 250 round "midcap" magazine and the guns are louder, so it's easier to pinpoint where the gas gun user is. In addition to that, the performance varies based on the temperature, it's kinda easy for mags to vent all the gas which generally happens at the worst time and any recoil (some aegs recoil) is generally stronger, so aiming is harder. Why do people use them is probably what you're wondering.......the shooting of them is more enjoyable, feels more realistic, the recoil is nice, the constant mag changes is more realistic, the maintenance can be enjoyable and the sweet feeling of hitting a high cap hero etc while on "hard mode" is something else. I may have of got fewer "kills", but the overall experience was richer for it.

  48. I suppose it's time for an update on the GBLS. Well the AEG is still running solid and still turns heads when shooting in full auto during a game. I bought 8 of the new PTS EPM 30/120 round GBLS magazines and the good news is the bolt lock works fine on the new version. I had to give 4 of them a good strip down and spray with silicon oil as they didn't want to feed but since the maintenance 3 of the 4 work fine. The last one actually has a damaged feed lip (weirdly at the front, not the top part where the BB exits). I've emailed PTS to see if they sell the feed lips as it looks to be an easy piece to replace but failing that I'll design a 3D printable version instead of buying another magazine. it's very much a niche AEG because of the price but everyone who tries mine always has a smile on their face.
