    My gear

Don't get hung up on the "full metal" thing. The polymer bodied combat machines (not the plastic ones, the nylon reinforced polymer ones) are as strong as if not stronger than metal. Plus if cost is the issue bear in mind that the guts of the t4-18 is going to be basically the same as the combat machine. The cost difference between the guns is more than the cost of a tight bore barrel. Don't try and scrimp on the protective gear though.

  2. Just after this photo was taken... ...one of the opposition thought he'd sneaked around to flank us, but had actually rocked up about 10m to the right of the POV of the photographer, or right down the throat of Svetlana my SVD. Being so close I couldn't just drill him so, being ever so careful not to draw attention to myself by moving quickly, I picked up my Skorpion with drum mag fitted which I had laid at my side, also under the sniper veil which had evidently defeated his target recognition skills. Things to know about this JG Vz61 is that I have upgraded it with a PDI 6.01mm TBB, a Gate Pico MOSFET, where possible heavier duty wiring, and a 20C 800mAh LiPo - and I had only recently completed the electrical upgrades so I was quietly chuffed with my little self for turning what had been an ok-at-best sniper backup into something which would do as a primary weapon in a pinch, so as I took aim at our unfortunate protagonist I had great expectations. After chrono I had filled the drum mag as far as sensible, wound it to full tension, and stuffed a piece of foam into the space above the BB's to stop them rattling, which it did brilliantly. Perfect as a sniper backup. I mean, shit, someone had crawled right past me in bright sunlight and not seen me under my homemade veil even though he was being cautious, and I had the tools for the job, all home customised: I was really pretty pleased with myself. I pulled the trigger... "Skrr-du-du-du-du-du!" ...but no fucking BB's. The bloke hadn't noticed though - I banged the drum mag and fired again - same result. He still didn't notice though. Dropped the mag, shook it, tested that it was still fully wound, reinserted and fired again - fucking nooooooooooooooooo! By this time a few of my team who were dead and lurking with a marshal at the back of the game zone were laughing and I had lost all patience - from their POV they could see the rear half of me not under the veil so my intended victim still not seeing me must have seemed even funnier - i finally rolled over, dumped the veil and changed to a stick mag - got him and another bloke who had crept up a bit further away, but then got rinsed by a few enemy coming from the opposite side of the game zone, from the direction the photo was taken. Truth be told, if i had been more patient I could have slunk back a bit, changed to the stick mag under the veil and then regained my uber position under the tree (where it's shadow confused my own shadow making me even more invisible) and gone back to Svetlana for the crew who got me, because they'd never have seen me. But I was very new to camouflage actually working, so I didn't have enough confidence in it. I spose I had just assumed that after 3 bursts of dry fire the bloke must have been moments from spotting me. The pic below is taken from the POV of just off screen to the right of the 1st, ie the direction the victim was in, but closer and also standing. What it doesn't show very well is that the ground sloped away so that my lower half wasn't visible from the height and distance of the victim, or to those who actually shot me once i dumped the veil.

The real rifle is called the FN herstal SPR A5M. Its military designation is the M40A5. Im guessing the VSR is in there because its VSR compatiable.

  4. I have a CYMA AK-74 Flash mag which was about £11 posted - must be shite, right? As with so much that CYMA make, not at all. TBH the plastic is a little more flexible than I'm used to in my mags, but it works fine and the one time I've dropped it, it bounced. You really need to take a step back though - I know that it's all shiny shiny, but the most important thing to get is eyepro. After that boots. Then 1/2 face mask. You may find that getting eyepro which suits you is not as simple as picking a product and buying it. There are a number of issues and what fits and works for 1 person may fail miserably for another. Worse than that though is the set that sorta works, but just doesn't quite ever feel like it's not there, or never quite tightens up and fits your face shape well enough that it doesn't move, or maybe it is working just fine but the gap at the edge near your temples is a bit too wide to be completely confident that you wont become the star of a horrible story... see, if something is bollocks, it's obvious, you just ditch it, but just how good can eyepro be? How much minor scale bollocks should you put up with? Very much the same can be said about boots, just without the same degree of dire should they fail... These are the discussions that will actually help you most right now.

  8. Good choice, nice platform that. You'll be glad of that later down the line, I spent years buying all sort of kit that I just ended up selling on or chucking away before I took the plunge on gear like Tac Tailor. Lot of wasted time and money! NB - In case anyone thinks I'm being a snob, everyone is quite welcome to buy whatever it is they like, but I know for a fact there's a lot of guys out there who went through that exact same cycle as I did.

  9. Please stop punting out hearsay and opinions as facts. The best mags are whatever feeds reliably in your own gun and fit your budget. Pmags don't work for everyone. MAG 190 round metal m4 magazines are very good, but not necessarily the same goes for everything they do. I've had very good results from dytac invader mags, others have had nothing but grief from them. Also, ASG flash mags are just rebranded Lonex ones.

The law doesn't actually say how long you have to have been an airsofter. The issue is proving it, so a receipt from a site would do, but the best thing is a photo on your fb wall, because in the vanishingly unlikely event that you may be called upon to prove it, just getting your phone out and showing the penis your interlocutor would end the discussion there and then. Bear in mind that the police are not enforcing this law - ACPO stated it is unenforcible, but that is not to say that you should flout the law, just that you need not worry about being prosecuted.

  15. Lol! That reminds me of a time we were playing a game where we had hostages whom the opposition had to recapture. The rules were that the hostages were immune to being hit until they had been grabbed by their team mates. So this one bloke, Charlie, had a reputation for hiding stuff down his pants etc, so i was keeping a close eye on him. At one point he was trying to sidle over towards the edge of the camp and kept ignoring people telling him to get back into the middle - so i told him he had 2 seconds to comply or else... and then rinsed him when he decided to call my bluff! I mean, so what if he couldn't be 'killed', 365FPS full auto from 15m hurts... He took it pretty well - we usually play on the same side whenever we're at a game together. Maybe he doesn't actually like me, maybe he just doesn't want to be on the opposite team again lol!

  16. Ask yourself this: What is your favourite war film, war based computer game or whatever? This simple question is quite often the basis of peoples 1st loadout. This tends to be expensive, so your best bet might be to get some army surplus gear, dpm is cheap and works well. http://www.britishmilitarysurplus.co.uk/shop/special-offers/soldier-95-deal-grade-1-1124095.html

  17. My friend and I were shooting and moving towards a guy hiding behind a big holly bush, while my friend was suppressing, I sneaked round the side to kill the guy trying to push up on our position. As I fired on him, I realised that I had run out of ammo although by this time I was spotted by him and we had a brief exchange of looks at each other before I belted it back to my friend, calling out, trying to get his attention. Whilst running back, I was trying to get the glock out of my holster, but thanks to sods law, it was stuck so I was sort of jumping and skipping in a hope that my glock would free up. In the end, I got shot by my friend who mistook me for the enemy and then the lunch whistle blew before my friend could finish him off. Typical.

  21. Yeah, I seem to remember we've chewed this bone before, eh? Quite apart from the silliness, there's the practical considerations and people came up with all sorts of mad ideas for FET's and diodes and shite connecting the torch to the actual electrical system of the gun. I think we concluded that pressure pads were the way forward... Unsurprisingly lol!

The majority of UK shops will still require a UKARA number to sell you a RIF, although some will take other proofs these days, like BASA, or a site membership and of course Zero One will sell you a RIF at NAE since being there is proof enough. If you want to import a gun you will need a UKARA number for UK Customs - that is the only defence they recognise. But for everyday stuff, yeah a photo will do. If you read my noob guide there's a link in the chat to a YT tutorial on how to use Fairy Power Spray to take paint off plastic and it works just as well for getting it off metal.

Also suggesting dialing back on the gun. Combat machines are very nice rifles. The Nylon bodies are very often stronger than the zinc and aluminum crap alloys used in guns. Guts are more or less identical,so performance will be close to the top techs. Using the money saved on some good boots. They make a world of difference man. Ones that are often recommended are German Kampfstiefel 2000 boots, indestructible known to last a very long time. Offer great ankle support. The Mk7s can often be found in grade 1 condition around the 40 pound mark. British Pro boots are great too. They're goretex lined so won't soak. I've waded through marshes and played in bucketing rain and my feet have always been bone dry. Also offer excellent ankle support. Only thin I'd say is that the soles are not the strongest things ever. German Bergstiefel boots are a bit more expensive but Have very knobby soles which offer great grip. Then you also have your high end Haix,Lowa and Meindl boots.(These 3 also OEM Kampfstiefel and bergstiefel boots, their own name stuff is a bit more expensive) Pricey but the quality is fantastic.

  29. I think the cords will break, try lonex flash mag, They are meant to be very good, I believe they are the original inventor and the best, for the same price. Atm I only run two hicaps because it's all I need, however I will be switching to mids at some point, they are so much nicer imo

  30. I used to use 450 round high caps. It was very rare that I needed to swap mags in a particulr game - I'm not really a spray and play type So 2 of those were fine for most game days, just refilling them between games. But I got annoyed by the loud rattle and the winding. Then I got some MAG metal 190 round mid caps - so 4 of those is roughly equivalent to my old 2 hicaps. All I do is top them up between games and 4 mags is still very easy to carry. For CQB days, 2 in the leg rig, plus one in the gun is all I need On longer days, I carry all 4 plus a back up hicap just in case! Never tried the pull cord ones, but I did have a 2500 round battery powered, sound activated (automatic) drum mag for a while Lots of fun, but very heavy and I didn't use it much

Not being funny but if you spent say £150 if on a FA bare bones budget or If you went complete nutz on a 1,000 budget you still will be wondering.... To be absolutely honest get the hell out there and start skirmishing a few times you could buy all this and with a few skirmishes think you may wanna sniper you could even decide it ain't for you - either hate it, not like being hit, sprain you ankle - loads of things but decide maybe it isn't what you thought it was And human nature being what it is you will never be happy & content with what you got - the grass is green or his gun looks better than yours......................... The crap me and I'm sure many many many others went out with when we started but that didn't mean we had a real brilliant time either...... Even me with B500A1 getting owned most of time but still stopped some other guy gallop with his £350+ gun using a £50 one - how pi$$ed does he feel (not much really coz $hit happens like this all the time) get out there n get shooting - hire gun £150 gun £350 gun - whatever yes if you are gonna buy something try n buy something decent etc..... but maybe try not to run before you have learned to walk so to speak

  37. Most idiotic thing: I was behind cover, when a guy fresh from respawn thought he was cool and shot his M4 single handed as he walked. Of course he shot me in the back and he didn't even notice. The funniest thing was a few years ago when a guy played too much counter strike before his first skirmish and actually jumped around a corner so it would be harder to hit him. He got a single shot to the center of the chest and I laughed so hard, I had to stop. I first met a guy who later became very good friend on this game: It was a building and he was shooting his pistol from a doorway, but he didn't notice me. I sneaked around the room all tactical, and finally got to the doorway. I waited until he stopped shooting past me, and I kneeled and turned in to surprise him. Unfortunately he was about to shoot again and the pistol's barrel was about 5 cm away from my forehead. He was surprised, and he shot. I basically was executed kneeling.

  38. Ended up in a one on one pistol duel in a fairly open bit of woodland, I was leaning back on a slope with small bushes behind and either side and as we were both firing pistols through vegetation it was a little stalemated. A marshall and several dead players were watching from about 20m away. As it had been raining earlier I was wearing my DPM water proof jacket. Next thing I hear a pyro being lit so lie back flat, grenade comes through the air and lands behind my head, no choice but to move rapidly away, grenade fuse still sounds just as loud though.. . . . BANG! It had landed in the hood of my jacket so full credit to Will for that one, proper fluke! Spectators were wetting themselves, I couldn't hear for about ten minutes!

  40. You can get a Nextorch WL10 illuminator for £39. I've heard they're great. NASH Airsoft did a review. There's also the Element SureFire replicas which I think are supposed to be pretty good. If I remember correctly they are only £25-£30 from Asia (but over here they will charge £50/£60 for em) The WL10 has a momentary on switch / paddle which is great or you can get a pressure pad for the Element SF flashlights. Try to mount flashlights as far up the gun as possible so it doesn't illuminate your handguard / barrel too much, use it in sort of short bursts, aim at walls / floor (can't remember exactly why but I think you will find it if you type flashlight tips into YouTube or something) Finally if you're right handed, mount the torch on the right. This is cos people are more likely to aim for the light they see and if it was on the left they'e be shooting at you whereas on the right they could be just missing you if you see what I mean.

  45. So you got gun obviously. what about dpm? and boots? need those two. Which one are you getting btw? then your going to want eye protection, don't got too cheap. I'm going to buy from hero shark (would like to replace my goggles) and spend about £40-50 quid in total, all worth it I reckon. hen your going to want .25 bbs. Also get some more mags, maybe another hicap, I run two hi caps at the moment, however I might start investing in mid caps considering I just bought a vest off mateyguv. You can carry the other mag in you pocket. All you need really P.S I have the carbine and I bought a black stock and front handguard, much cheaper than say with the raider because the rails are however much and a fiddle to put on. SO when I go to skirmish I will take the bright coloured items off and when I finish I will replace with the two tone again... it is allowed btw just check with your site however
