  1. I think people need to know exactly what a "codsofter" is They are not necessarily (although usually are) new players and they are not elitists, in the traditional sense of the word They are basically usually younger players, who have played CoD and then have decided to go out and play airsoft without reading much about it and then think because they played CoD they are suddenly all knowledgeable and think everything works like it does in CoD, so they go around being obnoxious and doing things like no scoping, blind firing and generally thinking they'll be as good in airsoft as they are in the game and anyone who beats them must be "hacking" They are not by any means common and many people join the sport are perfectly few, its just a small minority who happen to do it

  2. We were all dick heads. Occasionally we are all dick heads. But there is dickheadery and then there's being an Absolute Cock, contributing to the ACF* of the site. 5:40 is a perfect example of ACF bumping. Yes cameraman, you can look around all you like, you really are the one at the front and it really is time to shut your hole and do what you have spent the last 5mins telling others to do... ^Absolute Cock Factor - ACF is a measurement of that undefinable something every site has and, since we're playing war, it's not something we are likely to completely eliminate. Good marshalling usually deflates a site's ACF, but when even just one marshal is an absolute cock themselves, the ACF is boosted exponentially...

    The happy thread!

BACK FROM THE DEAD. POW. Over the last months at work, I've had a customer who refuses to pay his bill (I work at a storage center). Increasingly, he's been a nob to me, despite my best efforts to help him out of the deep hole he's got himself into. Today, he finally decided to try and pay his bill (although not the late charges and admin fees he owes, and even then, only half his bill anyway) whilst giving me some more abuse. I got to enjoy the look of despair on his face when I told him half his stuff had been sold for approximately £2000 and the rest had been crushed and then incinerated. I also got to enjoy him flipping out on the phone to his lawyer, because the stuff was worth over £35,000 to him and his company and his bill was only £2700. After that, I got to enjoy his lawyer telling him it was all his fault and that we had every right to go to debt collection for the remaining £700. The lesson? If you entrust someone with £35,000 worth of gear, and owe them £2700 for looking after it. Don't piss them off 'cause they have all the cards. Usually, I wouldn't bask in the joyous aura created by the misery of others, but this man deserves it and it goes some way to making up for the fact that my job is sh*t.

  6. Since I've only had to deal with a "codsofter" once, I'm led to believe it's not the fault of the person - just a lack of knowledge all of us regulars take for granted. Case in point: A young lad turned up with a double eagle g36c rifle and kept calling people cheats because they were hitting him but he couldn't hit them despite having "really good aim" in his own words. He proved he was willing to learn when I took him aside and explained why his rifle was the problem and not his aiming - as politely as possible as I can't stand people who shout "call your hits" as much as I can't stand people who don't call hits. Gave him my back up rifle to borrow and he actually became quite a useful player - was crazily brave once he realised his shots were actually now hitting people. End of the day him and his mum thanked me as it saved him from spoiling his day by leaving early due to not having fun. Like others have said it's down to us regular players to tolerate this (to a degree) and help them integrate themselves into the hobby. The younger players will help expand our hobby and make it a lot better for us all in the long run. Obvious cheating though like "last stand"/"body armour" should be actively discouraged for everyone's sake. Diatribe over now haha

Yup, there does seem to be a contradiction there. I'm sure it was easier to find the 2 tone service and it was cheaper before they revamped the web site. But they sold me my Sten for £100 so can do no wrong in my book

  12. I think the sport is based on fun, sometimes people take it too far but I just remind myself that we are all grown ups (Well most) who go out & play soldiers. If you cant see the comedy in that then I think deep down your dead inside. I'm still new to the sport & my son is just old enough to go, he watches more experienced players & takes orders from others pretty well, we both do what we can & sometimes take shots for the team......we are there for fun at the end of the day & if we ever forget that then I think it would be time to quit playing. In regards to Cod-softers, I don't have an issue with them. They are going out for the day, making friends & being sociable is always better than sitting in their rooms playing Xbox all day & thinking they are great. like others have said, people have to start somewhere, why not COD/Battlefield ?

  15. Pure craic man. Objectives are often very long so firefights are often intense moments of waiting followed by all out mayhem that feels like it lasts forever but in reality is just a 10 minute plastic slinging match. Depending on how big the site is you might be doing lots of hiking, but I can guess you're going to the Ground Zero weekender which is more skirmish oriented and less milsim then the stuff I frequent. Weekenders are very tiring so bring lots of food and water. Camping at night depends on the crowd- Two weekenders I've been at have been a mix of music, the occasional bit of drink(Marshals aren't a fan of this because insurance) and just general craic around the fireplace, roasting sausages and doing various things that would leave one very vulnerable for an attack Alcohol is a bad idea, airsoft with a hangover is not entertaining as some of my mates might tell you. Overall,I find weekender very much worth it. Lots of fun and plenty of action.

  16. My first game was in December 2012. I had a JBBG gun, which held up quite well as I was in CQB situations, and was absolute pish- I think that I only hit out 2 people that day...

  18. Ah the mp5 guy I can understand him being mad. But the torch? If it's in game you can't not expect it to be shot. Off topic: I remember the original medal of honour, cracking game. I'm not surprised you thought you had amazing airsoft skills after playing it haha
    1 point
  19. lol I remember my first game very well, I was crap, and I blame my made in China XM8 because it had a fake scope so no reference to aim with, and also I was AMAZING at Medal of Honour (the first one) so I must have had AMAZING tactical shooting skillz. But the most memorable thing was my newbie friend shot some pro-wannabe's 'real steel' Surefire torch and broke the front perspex during contact. He threatened us to pay him back or he'll sue or something like that. Also, I was pinned down behind a piece of cover and found some some metal boxes/containers laying nearby. So I proceeded to kick them out a bit to distract the enemy so I could make a run for it (I swear it seemed like a good idea at the time). The meal boxes/containers turned out to be some guy's MP5 mags... He was not happy.

  20. I'm the same. I enjoy challenging myself and my abilities, airsofting gives me the ability to do that to a degree. Sure it's fun to run in all guns blazing, but I get a lot more fun from being sneaky and getting "where the hell did he come from?!" reactions from people. For other players the reverse is true. With new players it's just like Metile said: they come in with preconceived ideas to their weapons and their own skill level. When either is found wanting some of them struggle to process that. Note I'm not talking about all new players, just a small minority of them. Hell, call of duty was my first experience of an fps game (the original pc version) so I'd be a liar if I didn't admit that I like to "reenact" the games a bit with airsofting. Edit: I hate predictive text on iPhones...

  21. I salute you for your patience. I guess one thing I can take from this is that some beginners (and regulars) think that the fun from airsoft only comes when you hit someone. And when they fail to hit anyone, they aren't having the fun they wanted, and so they would do anything to hit someone. For me, the fun comes from learning new things and being able to practice it, so I don't mind much when I get hit.

  22. I met one on Saturday, he was about 14 and he showed two really bad traits. Initially he was fine but as the games went on you could see how frustrated he was getting after failing to hit people. Its bad enough a guy on his first outing is screaming "call your hits" when he likely isn't very good at aiming, its worse as you watch him blind fire with BB's pinging off his shoulder and still he keeps on fighting. I can see why some sites ban young players, some of them lack the mental maturity to be humbled by their fellow players and they end up cheating and ultimately getting banned pretty quickly. Thankfully a vigilant marshal team dealt with him and he was my first know it all/hit nothing/cheating codsofter. His belief in his personal skills was so vast he couldn't see that he was a complete beginner with no skills at all.

  23. Note for those who have same issue in the future/want to not suffer this issue: Take the pistol grip/stock off. Carefully (but forcefully) bend the receiver casing out of the way and slide it back and up to remove it. On the Right hand side of the receiver is the 'cock-block' and spring, remove them. *they are the only removable components at this stage* Put the receiver shell back on, front end first and push it down at the back - this is a little more fiddly, but I've got the whole process start to finish down to under 2 minutes Reattach the stock

  25. Some suppressors (mainly the ones filled with foam) actually make your aeg sound much softer not a whole lot but they can have a cool effect on the sound if you get the right one, i used to have one on my g36 sounded really cool almost like the sound design your hear in films when a sd weapon is fired.

This issue is on all of their guns, lol. I don't think it affects accuracy as the bb would've left the barrel before the slide went back.

I'd suggest any combat machine. Save the money on the suppressor for extra mags/batteries.
    1 point
  30. Ok. There is no difference between any Combat Machine besides externals. Long barrel does not equal more range. It's the quality of the Hop-up unit, rubber or nub. All CM guns will clock in at 320-335 FPS from what I've heard. It's down to your preference whether you want a shorter or longer gun. A longer gun with a longer RIS system will allow you to put more attachments on it if you wish, however shorter guns can be more pointable and easier to go around corners and operate in confined spaces with. Longer guns can also be easily rested on barricades, cover etc if you want to maintain potential operational effectiveness while fiddling around with a water bottle/hydration unit or your pouches/mags.

  34. Brilliant, thanks for your help everyone! i shall get on it now! I think i will just go for the CM16 Raider L, save money on a scope i wont need Also with regards the battery i have done some more research, am i right in thinking that an 8.4v NiMH battery will be suitable, i have seen that its useful for beginners but may not be as reliable as a LiPO battery. I think as im a beginner i'll stick with the NiMH battery and move on to one for advanced users later. However in the meanwhile is a 8.4v suitable or will i need to move up to a 9.6v battery (NiMH)? is it just rate of fire or is there more to it than that? i'm not bothered about losing rate of fire, i choose to conserve ammo and rarely go full auto on someone (unless they're not calling their hits)

  35. A quick in-FOB snap of me at STANTA this weekend just gone. Was going for a SEAL-ish look to blend in with the rest of the guys there, didn't stand out like too much of a sore thumb (with the exception of being the only one without a helmet!).

  36. Internally those two should be identical, so I'd just go with whatever you like the look of more as they're both good guns. For batteries I'd go with 7.4v LIPO's, you'll need to do a bit of research beforehand to learn how to use them safely (they catch fire/explode if charged/discharged incorrectly), but they'll have a better performance then NiMH's. One of the best places for batteries and chargers is http://componentshop.co.uk/ I use this charger: http://www.componentshop.co.uk/accucel-6-digital-charger.html Will charge almost all types of battery including LIPO and LIFE, this version requires a 12v car battery to power it, the slightly more expensive version comes with a mains adapter.

  37. Ask around and see if anyone has an install disk for some video editing software, chances are they'll have the product key aswell, and most software allows unlimited installations with the same key (It's how schools and colleges do it). Or, you know... Not that I'm encouraging it.

  38. Personally, I ain't got no issues with codsofters at all. Ok so they're weapons look aweful and sometimes they don't really know the rules BUT we all started somewhere. That aside a lot of the time I admire they're attitude. They have that raw niavity which guarantees that they will enjoy they're day no matter what. A lot of the time where I play it's them who do a lot of the running around and break up any stalemates. On the subject of running, on average they are a lot lot fitter than most of us and this is they're greatest advantage. While we are sat at desks Monday to Friday, these guys play football in the school playground. They also weigh up to 3 times less than us and have not had 2 decades worth of fry up/cigarettes/Booz. The end result is most of them can run the pants off us. Call me a fool but surely a kid with a rental is more deadly than a fat bastard with a systema??? Last year my team picked up 4th of 12 teams at the annual billericay woodland competition. My team were absolutely nakered by the end few games but the kids were running around like we had just started. They actually won the entire tournament with an average age of about 11-12. I'd be worried if these guys started taking it seriously as the rest of us would struggle to keep up with these light feet fairies lol Hope more of em join the game overall :-)

Have a sleep in, get up, see the text message, "damn", throw battery on charger, decide for uber casual kit, get dressed, grab nearest highcap, fill with bbs, grab akm, drive, 2 hours late: "why are you ALWAYS the last one to arrive??!", excellent games and superb weather! (minus scarf.. and kneepads are hidden under shorts) (little hello to Swedish Goverment FRA who looks at all pictures uploaded in Sweden, presumably searching for militant group that does not exist or upload pictures. not the best looking smiley, but don't think they mind.)

  43. I would go for the G&G for a couple of reasons: 1) My G&G has treated me well so far no real complaints. 2) Its shorter. Longer barrels don't really help with accuracy and since I play a lot of CQB the shorter barrel helps me. 3) The G&G is lighter, CQB again a lighter gun helps me get on target faster. Not as realistic but practical. 4) I prefer the colour scheme and the look of the G&G over the G&P. But I also think both of them will serve you very well.

  44. Please don't buy from justbbgun. Go to proairsoft or landwarrior or firesupport or any of the other reputable places, justbbguns is not a good store to be buying from. You could get a G&G top tech Gen 3 with a mosfet for £250 at proairsoft and that would come with a tighbore barrel, 8mm Ball bearing bushings and recoil out of the box, those are great guns with decent accuracy.

  48. My son who was 13 at the time recieved a bright orange l96 rifle complete with scope/bipod for xmas, it was just because he wanted to shoot targets in our back garden. Which turned out to be really fun, at the time I never heard of airsofting and I'm not sure he did, but after researching about his gun and a few others we found a site close to us and i took him for his bday. Both of us loved it, we did use his rifle i think for one game but realised it wasnt as fun as using the sites aeg's also it drew a few under the breath comments and snickers from the sites regulars so we left that in the car for the rest of the day. We were both buzzing after the day had finished. Needless to say 9 months later we attend that site once a month, i bought us decent weapons and army surplus kit to use, and I take a couple of his school mates with us, theres usually quite few kids on site some regulars and some that are just there for a bday or something. I do hear cod/bf3 mw2 mentioned a lot but thats just kids having fun. My point after all this is let the kids and there dads enjoy the day the way they want too, I'm forever helping some kid reload bb's or get dirt out of his muzzle or just generally pointing them in the right direction. This snobery I see onsight from the regulars/members towards some kids/ppl because they got cheap sh1t equipment and no clue how to use it annoys me, cast your minds back to when you first started and think how it was. I love it when i hear kids all buzzing about something they did or saw ingame, by the way that bright orange sniper rifle is now fully upgraded and shooting regular at 480-495fps with a matte olive colour paint job, it looks the part and shoots the part.
