airsoft blowing up?
CaptainSwoop and one other reacted to Fumps for a topic
the above is why I think rentals are a great way of getting into airsoft. I'm still surprised there are not any events for kids (10-12 years old) to play in low fps games dotted around the country. My son was playing paintball & coming home with some savage bruises (he was proud of them). the cost for his day was ridiculous but I paid it because he loved doing it. Now we have airsoft to do together it's taken things to a whole new level, it's a sport he can take part in where his age & his height (He's a short arse) makes little difference. for instance I've seen him in gun battles with grown adults & he has got the better of them. He really looks forward to going & loves being treat like everyones little brother. Airsoft is a great community & I'm so happy I found it2 points -

It's called a jezail, my father was gifted one out in Saudi, more of a decorative sniper than anything else, and the metal work tended to be of a very low quality. Ruddy murderous in the right hands though.2 points

Impression Loadouts - UKSF, SEAL, Ranger, SADF, Etc, Etc...
armysurplusandtoys and one other reacted to Nickona for a topic
A milsim loadout if basically a highly realistic interpretation of a real world loadout. The very odd bit might be slightly incorrect but on the whole it clearly respembles a real modern or historical fighting force. It is basically borderline living history IE.. having a full MTP kit with Mk.IV rig, Mk.VII helmet and Aghan spec SA80 would be considered milsim but if you just had MTP with a baseball cap, WAS chest rig and a G36 it wouldn't be considered a milsim loadout as it is not close enough to the real thing... Basically this is a thread for loadouts what are based on specific forces rather than just random skirmish kit or airsoft team kit.. If someone has a Milsim loadout they know they do as they'll have spend a lot of time and money putting it together I might as well get this kicked off with my classic Angolan Bush War Executive Outcomes Mercenary. This is its older set up and a part WIP.. I've got more more region specific kit on way from SA (I'll upload my other African kits once I get some decent pics) Kit List: French Para Lizard bush hat (SoF repro) Portuguese lizard Shirt Scrim scarf SADF M83 battle jacket Patt 58 poncho Kenyan Maasai knife Patt 58 OD trousers2 points -

airsoft blowing up?
Fumps reacted to CaptainSwoop for a topic
We started with rental guns and surplus DPM from Ebay.. We got lucky when Gun-Ho closed down. On the last Skirmish they sold off their ex rental gear and we got a couple of Classic Army M15A4s for £25 that I have been refurbing as those who have followed the appropriate thread will know Airsoft seems to be expensive at first glance but compares well with other outdoor sports like fishing, archery, mountainbiking etc.1 point -

how much force do you think these things have to stand up to?! Zinc will be more than tough enough to go back and forwards under relatively low gas pressures, especially as it'll be bouncing off a buffer at the back.1 point -
For the money, that's not a bad spec. Surprised you can't supply an OEM Windows licence if you're preinstalling it though. I think it would possibly struggle a bit with a game like Medieval TW2 though. The CPU is roughly equivalent to my old Core 2 Quad Q6600 performance wise and that would run it but not well. While the game does have multi CPU support it doesn't do hyperthreading and it's pretty demanding if the unit sizes are high. Now granted, I'm working at the higher end of gaming PCs (mine is more in the £1000 price range) and if most of the OPs games are relatively old then I'm sure they'll be fine. I'd just rather see a bit more horsepower in the CPU and GPU. That's not a bad little machine but it's never going to set the world alight (not that much else will at that budget).1 point

Tried it last week on a stag weekend in Liverpool. Nice stuff.1 point -
I don't think it'll be anything to worry about. When companies like WE's can take steel bolts then I doubt something from TM will struggle too much, even their aluminium ones are known to have a number of issues. TM are one of, if not the best when it comes to reliability and unlike many airsoft companies, they tend not to sell stuff that will break easily, their stuff tends to be made so that it's not taken apart often or so that the user doesn't have to constantly replace parts so long as it's used as intended.1 point

I'll be honest I'm in the same boat as Finus and know next to nothing about computer specs so I may be firing a pm in the future , plus the shop isn't far from me so no postage!1 point

Looking for Electric Airsoft under £250
jeffery7466 reacted to BrightCandle for a topic
I don't think its an issue, I prefer the fact the guns are lighter and the polymer G&G uses is great. But he did ask for a metal gun in the OP so I mentioned it so he was aware that while the gun itself is lovely it doesn't meet the all metal requirement. At £300 you might be able to get a VFC, they do have nice externals.1 point -
Right then. I have a G&G SCAR-L. It's ace. Ignore anyone that says you can fold the stock for CQB because 1) that's NOT why the stock folds and 2) it's a pain to try and use with the stock folded anyway. If you buy the CQC version the gun comes with a barrel extender to the same length as the standard rifle. This can be easily unscrewed which then gives you the CQB length gun. Simples. I run a 7.4v LiPo in mine ( this one in fact: http://www.componentshop.co.uk/7-4v-2200mah-35c-lipo-battery.html ) and it's fine and dandy. It does NOT need a cranestock battery as the battery space is a big square block in the buttstock. The ONLY reservation I have is that it's quite easy to bend the pins the connect the main part of the gun to the battery holder, but it's easy to not fuck it up - you just need to be a bit aware of what you're doing when you fit the battery. You WILL need a downgrade spring though. When mine turned up it was shooting at the thick end of 400FPS! Get the shop to do it for you and aim to be under 340FPS as then you'll have no trouble with any of the sites you might want to use (CQB sites for example tend to be quite low on muzzle velocity). Well worth the money and a gun that will last you a decent length of time too. Good choice.1 point

question about two tone
Monty reacted to CaptainSwoop for a topic
If your friend is skirmishing he has a defence. You don't need anything like a 'UKARA' to own a RIF, you don't need any kind of permit to respray one if you are skirmishing. If he has sprayed it black he doesn't need to respray it to any other colour. There is a some bad info being passed around in this thread. A site shouldn't be asking you any questions about where or how you got your RIF. It's nothing to do with them. If he has a defence he can spray his two tone any colour he wants. .1 point -

airsoft blowing up?
CON reacted to CaptainSwoop for a topic
Airsoft is always popular with youngsters but how many become long term players? Several of my sons friends started to play after he did. all but one stopped after a few months. At the sites we go to there seems to be a regular 'churning' of new young players. it's the same with any hobby or pastime, you dabble and then something else catches your attention. It's all part of growing up.1 point -
Similar situation to me, my son had been to paintball a few times & saw people coming in from an airsoft skirmish & thought it looked much cooler that Paintball. he started asking me for a BB gun so I started looking into the legality of the whole thing.....found the community & decided to have a blast myself......we now do it once a month as a father & son thing. It's a good escape from being a grown up for a day.1 point

Where do you guys learn stuff?
Airsoft_Mr B reacted to Mr Monkey Nuts for a topic
I recently watched the "not so round table" series of videos on Evike's YouTube channel. The basic premise is the punters post comments and questions and some airsoft "veterans" give answers of their experience and knowledge. There is a bit of sales pitch, but mostly just a couple of lads chatting about airsoft. It's worth a watch. In fact a lot off Evike's you tube is pretty good, they arn't as hardcore SELL SELL SELL, like some others.1 point -

Airsoft_Mr B reacted to M_P for a topic
Just pick stuff up, i spend/waste a lot of time on the internet and have a large number of forums and news sites, both airsoft and real steel I check a few times a day and doing that for a few years makes bits rub off on you- just read through forums every couple of days and you'll pick up a fair bit, arnies and ukaz tend to have the best knowledge base of the UK forums. Zeroin you can look at but is filled with more idiots than sensible contributers.1 point -

Annnnnndddddd moving on swiftly. Nothing special, but I won't be airsofting for a month of two *cri ,_,* so i thought id take some proper photos of my scar before she's put away. I usually use a pressure switch for the T6 light and use a green laser PEQ box, but I was too lazy to mount them on and wire them up. (Excuse the dodgy photo quality and the floppy magpul) Here are some close ups of the EoTech 552 I laser engraved but never got round to posting.1 point -
