  1. Braved the wind for the first skirmish day of the year at Imperium. Luckily the wind wasn't too bad with most of the chosen playing areas sheltered by trees/terrain. Low numbers for the site, at about 40 pax. A few father/son duos which is always nice to see. Relatively slow start to the morning, with the first game not starting until just after 10:30. Especially when the safety kicks off around 09:00. 2 games either side of lunch, and considering the wind and cold meaning more layers worn, hit taking wasn't too bad. With a few but not many complaints and not extra briefings from the Marshall. Good play with quite a few "kills" pushing positions or getting sneaky flanks. The only point of contention was the use of one player's 'riot' shield. It kind of unbalanced a capture the flag game. Especially with said player declaring they couldn't feel below the shield leg shots because of padding. And the shield seemingly impervious to pyro - it was briefed at the beginning to be bb resistant only. Overall good day, but as always I would recommend the "ground war" days at Imperium, mainly because skirmish days are like herding cats. The next ground war is on the 4th of Feb, may see some of you there.

  3. So I decided to pay a visit to the tunnels at Epsom yesterday and it definitely managed to scratch a cqb itch. Numbers were lower than I was expecting at between 10 and 15 players in total but to me that made it better as it meant there was room to move and every doorway or corner wasn't a choke point. Hit taking was excellent with none problems or whining I'd noticed had started to get worse at my previous regular site. All in all I'll definitely be going back

  4. My daughter and I went to Stoke on Trent today to visit the, many, airsoft shops. What an absolute waste of time! Non were open! Granted, one has now become online only but the others have just taken it amongst themselves to close on a Monday! Even the one whos website says they're open, we're closed! Luckily, the good old Army and Navy stores were open and eldest daughter bought some DPM trousers and lightweight jacket and I got a new pair of boots.

    Mag storage...

I have one or two spare mags that get dumped into an ikea type storage box & was looking on fleabay last week thinking I could buy some ammo boxes to store them all a bit better. Long story short, I dragged them all out to see how many spare mags I had & which types, took a piccie to post on here and realised that I don't need any ammo boxes... I have webbing hanging all over my mancave with ready made pouches. only got around 6 spares without a home now (mainly a couple of AK & some Galil mags). 420490325_912386320124823_669653446712038612_n.mp4

    Which gas?

Green gas under normal conditions and you can try and risk red one when it's a few deegres in the winter. There are major differences between PSI if you compare a Vorsk to an Nuprol or ASG. I'd say your average green gas PSI is about 110-120. Nearly all of them has silicone oil that's why it's called green gas and not propane. It keeps your seals and o-rings lubricated so you don't struggle with leaking magazines later on but as other people said that silicone finds its way into your barrel and hop rubber so this is the trade-off.

    Which gas?

Yes it does, but as Mr Flange notes, it does make the hop rubber slippery and therefore less effective (and consistent). So you can do one of these 1) Not give a stuff about accuracy, cos it's a pistol anyway, and use oily gas to keep the mags good without any further faff 2) Use maintenance gas between games to look after the mags, vent them before a game day outside the gun, use dry gas during games 3) Use dry gas all the time and sort the mags when they go wrong (if you're ok with taking them apart and lubing the seals) I've tended towards option 1 with pistol mags, but option 3 with the rifle mags... but the last couple I bought aren't holding gas nearly as well as the first couple, and stripping one of the mags has left it ... buggered? So might move to option 3 there.

    Which gas?

All the gases are based on Propane but airsoft version does not have the smell added. (Usually added for safety) You can fill a lighter with airsoft green gas and you can use Propane from camping shops but you have to get an adaptor and it will smell bad when used. Most green gas from Nuprol comes with silicone mixed in which you want. I use Ultrair too and buy from HERE or HERE (Bulk buy is cheaper) Remember to clean the barrel (and hop rubber) with a bit of Isopropyl Alcohol occasionally. Use the cleaning rod with a strip of cloth for the barrel and a Q-tip with a drop of Isopropyl for the hop.

  20. Short answer, the mags will not be cross compatible. Also ARES don't do a Fal. They do the L1a1. Despite the L1A1 and fal looking the same, the mags are actually different. KING ARMS actually replicated that with theirs. So the king arms fal mags won't work with the king arms L1A1.

    Which gas?

The issue I have seen is the naming of 'similar' pressure gasses and variations in gas formula. I bought asg ultrair gas because it came at different pressures and formulations which I could in the future replace with a known product. It's cheap, I can choose a step up in pressure and it's cycled my gas pistols fine. You can choose a no silicone version too

Alright, took it apart after today's game and: The internals are proprietary except for the motor, inner barrels and hop rubbers. The springs are vsr-like, but half the length and of odd diametre (11.3mm OD, 8.90 ID). Piston heads (consequently "cylinders" and cylinder heads) are smaller than AEG spec at 20mm OD. Nozzles are proprietary and don't have o-rings. Barrels are supposed to be 226x6.03 but I will check this later. Performance wise it's a hungry beast. Just setting the hops will chew through half a kilogram of 0.25s, it's far from efficient as well, drawing 30odd amps to start and keeping 24A during function, but that is due to the motor being a meh ferrite one. The upgrade plan is: • sort the air seal with new o-rings; • replace the motor with a less thirsty one, even if the overall ROF goes down; • replace hop rubbers to get the maximum possible range on 0.25s; • [optional] replace the inner barrels to bring the power up closer to 0.99J without putting unnecessary stress on the mechanical components. Alternatively make some spacers to go between piston heads and springs to compress them a little more. Pro tip for long term storage: Unscrew the barrel assembly, due to the way it works 4 out of 5 springs are always under tension. Edit: a full sized, picture filled breakdown and "review" will come once I have upgraded it.

    Hello again

Yo welcome back That rig will probably work fine. I've had this since 2018 and have been using it every now and then https://www.bespokeairsoft.co.uk/big-foot-d3crm-chest-rig-vest-with-three-magazine-pouch-black I also do have the M904g you are looking at and it's in shambles atm because of modding. The internals are slightly offspec from the usual m4 stuff so i've been having a nightmare trying to get a perun to work in it. The hop is somewhat propietary from being different in size and position. Also broken a few things in the gearbox from trying to increase power. Basically, it works decent but only if you don't plan on touching it inside. G&G combat machines are still great starter guns to this day, and still made better than those DE rifles. I have the raider 2.0 and I still think that's a better rifle. Honestly, anything 10 years ago is still great today, it's all about slinging pellets to a range afterall. The new cyma platinum series have been greatly received too, though i'd not tried one so can't validate that. But you know cyma, still rock solid mid tier as per usual. There have also been a surge of copy-and-paste companies that just make budget M4s, as if we don't have an abundance of them already. I'd just say avoid all them them.
