  1. 2nd AIF (2nd world war Aussie). Australian Imperial Force is an organisation created separately from the normal army (militia). The Australian Army was not allowed to operate outside Australian Territory by the constitution. The AIF was not the army so it was not bound by this rule but had to be entirely formed of volunteers. 1st 2 pics are early war. A mix of WW1 Australian gear and British gear. This is based upon pictures of Aussies during the early Libya campaigns Late war (jungle). By now the Aussies are working with Americans so you see American influences such as the lace up gaiters and I am using US HBT trousers, which the Aussies are known to have managed to obtain.

  17. Right Lads, discuss models you're working on, share pictures, plans, dioramas, places to buy, brands of model and paint, even war gaming models such as those in Bolt action and Flames of War. All of it goes here. Enjoy This is my first model, will shortly begin work on a Normandy diorama in 1/35 or 1/72 I am undecided thus far. I like the look of Italeri and Taimya models and paint, so willl likely go for them. Also considering buying a Bolt Action rule book (I like the look of the game but I'm not going to use their models) and perhaps get a friend to play against me (May give my diorama an alternate purpose)

  19. If you want to get into 1/35th scale modelling then there worth it as the extra detail really helps but for 1/72nd scale, unless you go for metal miniatures there is little difference between the quality of manufactures. The exception being Ceaser Miniatures plastics.

  26. I should post this in DIY, but Whatever. This is some unknown Soviet,Ukrainian,East German, maybe even Czech leather holster. I have no Idea, too big for a Makarov, too wide for a TT33. Only really hold M9s and Hicapas well. The leather on it is really nice, bit soft and floppy but stiffer in the lower sections. Plan to boil it later. Originally the leather clip to retain the piston was pretty crappy. So I got rid of it. It had another strap and clip which was pretty useless hanging from the bottom so I cut that off and stuck it on the main body, currently temporarily glued on. It had the usually sh*tty belt loop which sat too high and got weaker from age. When a pistol was placed in the whole holster sagged and flopped around. So I got rid of that, punched four holes in,and use paracord to secure it to ALICE webbing holes. Sits nice and low so the weight does not make it sag to the side and does not wobble. Also bent the lower piece seen in pic 1 so that it catches the trigger guard,if it goes in fully into the holster the pistol usually flops around inside a bit, especially thinner guns like 1911s. So I bent it to add some tension and hold better. Yet to use in a skrim but I'm confident it will be a big improvement over the original. Rig is a little scant at the moment since I'm waiting on some pouches along with the rest of my kit from Ukraine. I sort of have an idea in my head to carve out the basic shape of a hicapa(My planned next gun) and stick it in when the holster is being boiled to make it a medieval Serpa or something. Right now it's grand though.

  31. If the OP acquires an IF and after a couple of skirmishes resprays it (or cleans off the paint) and has the discretion not to go bragging about it then I don't think anybody would be too interested. I think it would only become a problem to some people if somebody did remove the paint / respray and technically manufacture a RIF and then went bragging about it to anybody who would listen. *Edit* Just re-reading the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006 and Sec 40 refers to an amendment to the Firearms Act 1968 Sec 24 making it an offence for a minor (person under 18 years of age) to be sold or to buy an imitation firearm, but makes no mention of gifting an imitation firearm to a minor. So, my interpretation is as a minor you cannot buy an IF (even a bright green one) but you can have one gifted to you.

Was there last one - not sure how quickly ASG are pumping them out as AA are an official ASG importer and they had to wait about 4 weeks between the first and second order, so it's anyone's guess when they get more, or for me, more gas mags in (they have CO2) -- Edited to add linky

    First Aid

The replica tourniquet is obviously just a bit of dress up kit, if someone's got an arterial bleed then using a replica on them is probably better than nothing... but still not really appropriate, belt or sling would be better Current doctrine is 2" above the wound, or above the joint if there's one in between. If you can't tell where the wound is, or the trauma is so significant the artery could be smashed up inside, go to the base of the limb, couple of inches below the groin or armpit (though this will be less effective at stopping the bleeding and carries greater risk of unnecessary damage to the limb). Fit the tourniquet, wind on the windlass til the patient stops leaking and mark it with the time of application. Haemostatic agents then get deployed en masse to to block up any residual bleed since even the tightest tourniquet isn't going to be 100% effective. That said, if you're applying a CAT to someone at an airsoft game then shit has hit the fan MASSIVELY and that person is lucky you had one on you!

  40. SIG P228 - for my FBI kit, it's carried in a right-handed IMI holster on my belt, on my left hip. (I'm more comfortable with a cross-draw than a left-handed holster). Spare mags are either in a pouch on my right hip, or, if I'm wearing it, held in the in-built mag pouches on my (blue FBI/cop) ballistic vest. For my Army and PMC kits - it depends on what else I'm using. Normally belt-mounted, but occasionally drop-leg. Never worn on my plate carrier, as I find it uncomfortable. Walther PPK and P99 both have custom made brown and black leather shoulder/armpit holsters. Pistol goes on the left, 2 spare magazines on the right. Made by a family friend who is a leather worker. (Normally does work for historical reenactors and museums). Tailored to fit me, and to hide under a suit/dinner jacket. Incredibly comfortable. A lot better than many of the shoulder holsters which are available to buy in stores.

  41. You too? At The Stan a couple of years ago I was leaning around a bush, on uneven ground so one leg was outstretched and the other scrunched up, which stretched my kecks tight across my arse. Someone had managed to creep pretty close without me noticing... an actual double tap to the anus. Literally the bum hole. After day 2 I stopped eating. At the time it got nothing more than a grunt from me. I mean it hurt, but it was more of a surprise than pain. Maybe it was just because i was well adrenalised... The game was a "Blackhawk Down" defend the chopper game (although the chopper was left to our imagination) - a small area with limited cover and the opposition given free reign across the courtyard to attack from approx 120 degrees of approach, with 2 snipers on the roof of the building opposite at whom we could not return fire (because the site is surrounded by active businesses and houses so you can't shoot up as BB's could leave the site) - so it was pretty hectic! Anyway, by the time I got home it was sore. After the 1st crap it was very sore. Later that day i bought some haemorrhoid (and try spelling that without recourse to google) cream. After the 2nd crap I decided i didn't want to risk a 3rd until it had healed a bit :'( Yeah, it's funny. Even I find it funny now. By day 2 after the hit it was really not funny. As it happens I often wear a custom bum-rig which is a waterproof pad hanging from elastic straps from my belt, to put something i can sit down on no matter the terrain, because i have a medical condition which causes a lot of pain in my extremeties - sometimes i just have to sit to get off my feet. Didn't think i'd need it in a CQB venue. When I 1st started wearing that a few people took the piss. A few people asked about it and although they didn't say anything I could tell they thought i was mental. I used to say "you'll all be wearing them soon". If you look at pics of Russian SF these days... yeah, they have them. Russian Army Sitting Mat SPOSN

    First Aid

I would personally advise against carrying an epi-pen. Whilst it has been agreed by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) that a First Aider can administer adrenaline via an auto injector device (epi-pen) in-line with the Section 7 of the Prescription Only Medicines (Human Use) Order 1997 you cannot legally obtain such devices as they are Prescription Only Medicines. The guidance is there to cover a first aider when administering a patient's own epi-pen. I would also advise against using glue to close wounds as well - glue is used as a semi-permanent to permanent wound closure and as such you would need to ensure the wound is completely clean before the wound is closed. Glueing will only close small wounds and you would be better off using other methods such as direct pressure for a time and a covering (such as a non-adherent dressing) and advising the person to go visit a walk-in centre to get it looked at.

    First Aid

Combat tourniquets (as the Combat Application Tourniquet - CAT is one such device) do have relevance in the realm of pre-hospital care for the rapid arrest of catastrophic haemorrhage, and the standard approach to any trauma patient is now <C>ABC where <C> is Catastrophic Haemorrhage. However, this is assuming the responder is trained appropriately and has the right equipment with them and can identify what is a catastrophic haemorrhage. As Mr Monkey Nuts pointed out there are complications, but evidence has suggested they are not as severe as once thought and most evidence regarding tourniquet complications are not from the use of the combat tourniquet but from the use of pressure tourniquets in theatre. In fact, there has been one reported case of a combat tourniquet being in situ for 16 hours with the patient regaining almost full function of their limb. If you are interested in a little bit of light reading regarding tourniquets this is quite good: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2660095/ I am always cautious when saying a particular injury won't occur in a particular environment as there will always be that one exception... it is easier to deal with what the most common injuries are rather than complicating it with the "what ifs".

    First Aid

In a small grenade pouch I carry a small ziplock bag that contains a little bit of everything from my main first aid kit. The main first aid kit lives in my car unless I am going kayaking/Canoeing/Skiing/walking when it will move to the pack or drybag I use for the particular activity. I have had first aid training, plenty of it and even competed in cadet first aid competitions and taught bits years ago, infact when I did the 4day first aid at work qualification ( now 3 day as far as I was aware) I even had to teach the woman leading it how to apply some of the dressings she was asking us to apply because she didn't have a clue. On my last one, a simple 1 day course I showed the guy teaching us about using the inside of sterile dressing pouches as an improvised one way valve to apply to lung puncture wounds. I would never rely on a site having a first aid kit near me. I play some pretty big sites and you cant guarantee the marshal is either trained or is actually carrying the first aid kit with them. In one case I know the site keeps the kit in the safe zone which is a good 10mins round trip from the back end of the play area. I can deal with minor stuff, cuts and grazes right up to lacerations but this kit is only stocked to temporarily stabilise until someone else gets there with the a full kit, like a paramedic or the site team with their uber kit. I really ought to weigh it but I know its far less than a fully loaded high cap so I barely notice it. I've not been trained to use a tourniquet in a while and its not something I'm totally familiar with using so its not carried and I was under the impression they had fallen out of fashion for every day first aid anyway, but I have the bits to make one on my kit with some bodging if the situation called for it. But one addition to my mini first aid kit is a small tube of eye wash, for those times people get crap in their eyes. As for defibrillators, most first aid courses as far as I was aware go through their use, and the ones people can access out and about nowadays actually do all the work for you, its a case of following the stupidly easy picture instructions and doing what the voice tells you, it makes the decision of when to shock and how much so you actually don't need any training.

    First Aid

I like to be as self reliant as possible... I think while most sites will have a First Aider by necessity to tick the H&S and Insurance box, (apart from the few sites that have medical professionals on their day off) they will generally be no better qualified than the average office or factory first aider, and that's hit and miss quality wise. And while they can maybe do the whole CPR thing (I've never seen need for this - thankfully), in my humble opinion, while they may love stocking their first aid box with all the gauze, eye wash and burn dressings they can, maybe with a defibrillator (for which, they aren't trained) tucked under the sling and surgical scissors, when it comes to most typical skirmish injuries - bumps, scratches, nettle stings, welts, hi-cap finger, ankle twists, and assorted boo-boos etc, they just don't make things better the way my mother can, so I'd rather try to do it myself. If it's something more serious than a bit of a boo-boo, site First Aiders tend to be unable to really help anyway, and refer you on to A&E, your GP or local GUM clinic as necessary. And I'm always mindful of announcing my injuries too loudly, lest the resident survivalist come up offering his KFC wet wipe, needle and thread all pulled from the handle of a Bowie knife.
