Hi All I don’t choose forums likely but this one seems full to the rafters of good info & great knowledgeable members in the limited time I’ve browsed. Ive done paintball and always visit the shooting ranges in the states when I’m there on hol’s but airsoft is about as close as I’ll ever get to owning a proper looking firearm & damn do some of them look fantastic. Thats not the only reason I’m here. im trying to find hobbies that my son and I can do together and we both liked the thought of airsoft so we took the plunge only 3 weeks ago to join the local venue which some on here may visit/know as I’ve read a previous post on it. My son. & I have played 2 games so far at wmairsoft in Rowley Regis, with a 3rd booked for his birthday in a couple of weeks. I was actually brought up in the area so know the location well. And yes, I’ve splurged on some items purely for the looks and the fact I’m a huge SG1 fan, so yes, I bought a P90 amongst 3 other airsoft guns we now have. 1st game day was great, very even, great banter, the usual moans of not taking hits but a great day nonetheless. the 2nd game day we were dominated by the other team who were blatantly not taking the hits 🤣🤣but… it’s just a game and it gives me and my son good time together in great sociable surroundings. Anyways, I’m Redditch based, Gary is my name, r1flyguy, is a forum name I’ve used since 2002 so it’s just stuck and I look forward to the wealth of knowledge you guys/girls have to point me in the right direction when I need it.1 point -

The story and parts on this one would take up way too much space for a forum post, if anyone really wants to know here's a link to my own site. Very short version, this started as a basic af short M4 (KWA LM4c) in 2015, but I've only changed a few little bolt-on accessory bits since I took these pics in 2020.1 point -

PVS31 Battery Retention System holds an Exfog with room to spare. Will work with the helmet cover or without, can even set it up without the use of Velcro. Fogging - WarQ or what’s best?
Rogerborg reacted to Dogsbody100 for a topic
Being fat and slow I sweat and steam up terribly, least that is until I made a novritsch antifog unit compatible with the ess ice glasses I have, works a treat and I haven’t fogged up again since. I get the impression that it’s different strokes for different folks and this is very much a case of finding something that works for you, saying that I’d second the novritsch stuff now as it just seems to work.1 point -
Only real thing that worked for me as said it's the novritsch unit with the pyramex goggles Tried most things, even the dye i4 I modded with twin fans still wasn't enough There's a cheap model on AliExpress, just bear in mind it's like the v1 unit in that the plastic unit can be shot out, but so long as it's in a pouch or covered you'll be fine1 point
-
It's not much about the hop rubber but rather the hop unit. If I'm not mistaken G&G rotary hop units have a clicking retainer that helps with.....well....retaining the hop up adjustment. One option is to try a hop unit that doesn't have said clicking retainer so you can fine tune the adjustment, ZCI plastics are cheap enough to give them a try. Another option is to shave a tiny bit of material off the tensioner, so that when you click it in "too much" setting, it'll hop slightly less and give you the adjustment you want... it's a bit trial and error with this one.1 point

Welcome to the forum! Lots of knowledgeable people on here, so I am sure you'll get some info that's useful. My general advice to new players is to not spend too much money now, wait, do 4-5 games. There are bits of airsoft that are awesome, some bits that are a bit.....meh. Some people can handle the meh bits while others can't. Lots of people start airsoft, only a few carry it on for years, so hold back on your spending as much as you can for the moment. If you're still loving it in 4 games time, then yeah, spend and buy good stuff. It'll also give you an idea of what you'd like and you'll see what other players use, start with and then quickly get rid off. I'll also challenge your view on having real firearms, you can get firearms in the UK, you need to have a reason (such as a member of a shooting club) and jump through a few hoops (letter from a doctor, people who will be a reference, criminal background check and a chat with a copper) but it's all very doable. UKPSA and Practical mini rifle/shotgun/pistol are becoming bigger in the sport with lots of opportunity for fun, in addition, longer ranges/bigger calibres are available in restricted formats, but there are a lot of interesting options. I love seeing father and son combos on game days, seen some really great bonding with some fun father/son time away from screens and nonsense. Looking forward to taking my kids one day. Don't be shy, use the search function but do ask any questions you have.1 point -

I didn't ask you to correct it, this thread is a discussion of classified listings and all listings are fair game, whether here or anywhere else. I'm not upset about it, i don't care what price you ask because i don't want to buy it. But we can all comment on it none the less. You're getting touchy being called out about it. Considering you openly said you want to take advantage of potential buyers due to supply and demand over fair value says enough. Anyway, enough discussion of your listing. There'll be more material tomorrow, i'm sure.1 point -
This, and it's also the reason why you get the best out of them with Maple Leaf inner barrels as well. The MR is a great bucking with a large and long patch so you can apply light but consistent hop, no heavy pressure that has to be applied to a very small area. AK2M4 understands this and its why his own XT inner barrels have larger windows. It's also why I really like the combo of Maple Leaf MR bucking + their inner barrels + the hard concave nub of the Maxx Model M4A-PRO hop unit, light consistent hop robbing the BB of less energy. Stick with a Macaron, or one of the newer 4UAD's, if you've a small / standard window, but if the window is big enough MR is king.1 point
-
I used to run Maple Leaf Macaron (yellow) almost exclusively in all my AEGs until it one of them caused a lot of feed issues in my mk18. I swapped to a Begadi (IIRC) Fly5 hop rubber and have stuck with that since with no issue. I feel like the performance of the Begadi rubber is better (aside from curing the feeding issues). Shots appear more consistent with a flatter trajectory for longer. I've heard good things about the 4uantum Friction Pro and have an AEG and GBB one to try.1 point
-
I've found PDI barrels can have issues with ML hop rubbers. I had to widen the window on the 6.08 PDI barrel in my MTW, because it wasn't properly fitting the ML contact patch and wasn't hopping heavy BBs when it should have. After I widened the window it worked fine. That said, I now swear by the 4uantum Friction Pro buckings for AEG-style hop ups. I really like them. However, the only gun I use that gets any use with an AEG hop rubber in it is my MTW, and even then that plays second fiddle to my GBBRs and gas bolt actions.1 point

I'll just leave this here for the next time it's advertised. so I can simply copy & paste. & I thought I was being constructive with my feedback. Ok, lets try another direction... Your cases are crap & apparently no one wants them, you're trying to sell boneyard rif's for too much (based on them not selling multiple times), by all means set the asking price at whatever you think is reasonable but don't be surprised if they're still in your bedroom this time next year.1 point -

Yesterday I took a second trip to Rift's Blackstone site in Huntington and it's quickly becoming one of my favourite sites. There were a couple of grumbles about hit taking but I didn't personally see any so I'm putting it down to people not being as good shot as they think. It turns out they livestream games on twitch which led to a funny moment when a player, not realising the cameras picked up sounds too, made a crack about his other half and what he was going to do with her, only for her to quickly text him that actually he wasn't going to get any I've never played at AP but it sounds to me like the angry shouty man was in the wrong. It's a dead players responsibility to get out of the way and dawdling along at a snail's pace on a path where you know a firefight is happening is just dumb and asking to be shot. Whining about it when it happens is even dumber1 point -

I’d still rather work on a GBB mechanism than a NGRS. I hear that when you open an NGRS, the soul of a Japanese Airsoft tech leaves the receiver. You have to sacrifice another one to be able to seal his soul back into the receiver when closing it, otherwise it will never work again.1 point -

VFC/Umarex G3 4 years later
k.a reacted to 1st commando for a topic
So I figured I may as well transplant my initial review here and also post updates as the internals are almost identical to the upcoming VFC FAL/LAR. The Umarex G3 Gas Blowback Rifle by VFC Firstly it's been a while since I wrote a review , years in fact . This rifle has been one i've been looking forward to for many years so a bit of that enthusiasm is most certainly going to find it's way in . However I am not one of those young guys from Youtube who gets their first rifle and thinks it's the best thing ever. I've got an extensive collection and have been in airsoft since 1990 . This rifle was not supplied for review , I paid for it myself as soon as pre order was available . Upon the rifle arriving you will see it packaged in typical umarex style with black H&K marked cardboard box with stiff card inserts holding the contents very securely . The rifle itself being wrapped in a tough plastic “bag” . Also in the box you will find the instruction manual and loading tool for the included 20 round gas magazine . Once unwrapped you can feel the heft of the G3 with it's steel construction running around one metre in length. The plastics are of good quality and feel very solid with only the very slightest of sideways play at the rear of the handguard , Although the plastics are of high quality , I intended from the start to switch these out for real furniture as I do with the vast majority of my rifles . If anything the VFC plastic is of too high quality with decent texture in contrast to the H&K parts . The muzzle device is steel and a very good replica although I will likely switch this out for a real one soon. Behind that is the steel outer barrel extension which runs into the steel front sight block . The outer barrel under the handguard is alloy and does serve to lighten the front end a touch compared to the full steel barrel of the LCT but it does not detract from the overall feel for me . The Handguard is patterned on the slim green handguard we are all so familiar with . It is real spec and every real handguard I have tried has fitted perfectly unlike the LCT which has some annoying protrusions from the reciever pin that must be ground down to fit some . So far Ihave tested the following real handguards …. Slim , wood , Wide(tropical) and RAS from Fab Defense with no issues . In fact all of them removed that tiny bit of sideways slop that the factory handguard had . Above the handguard is the steel cocking tube with it's steel charging handle assembly which has the usual green plastic sleeve on it (the cocking handle appears to be real spec but I have yet to find time to change mine out). The cocking tube is correctly and neatly welded to the reciever which is of course more steel . The reciever appears to be made just like the real rifle , being made of a stamped sheet which is then folded and welded in all the right places and with attention to detail. On the left side of the magwell you will find the markings which say “G3FS 106****(serial number protected) HK 2/72 Bw . These markings denote that this is based upon a later “freefloated” model of the G3 manufactured in 1972. The only other markings on the upper are the usual white umarex markings which are very cleverly done on the part that is covered by the lower when assembled so there is no “cal6mm” ruining the look of the rifle until you take it apart for cleaning . The lower is again a stamped steel construction and is again real spec so you can fit the real pistol grip sleeve on with no mods required . Due to the insane attention to detail from VFC you could also use a real lower by dropping the well replicated GBB trigger box into the real lower . I will be doing mine in the next few days hopefully but mine is a FMP lower so I will need to quickly run a file inside the front lugs to make it match up against the VFC (this is a known point when using FMP lowers on H&K G3s). The stock again is a very well replicated part , VFC opted to fit the recoil assembly to the end cap like it would be on the real one so you will need to move this to the real stock unless you use the VFC end cap . I have tried using a real stock on the VFC end cap and also using a real slither stock and moving the recoil assembly over and both worked great. Internally the level of replication continues with the trigger group and bolt carrier group both replicating the real parts very well . Field stripping this is all but identical to the real rifle. So …. onto the airsoft side of the replica The 20 round GBB magazine is a good design and not only replicates the real one very well but also cleverly enables the rifle to give the “dead mans click” on empty or allow for dry firing depending on how you set the “dry fire switch” . The fill valve is on the back of the magazine just below the strike valve which means it's protected from debris but also hidden from view when in the rifle . Filling with gas and Bbs is easy which is a relief for those of us that use GHK rifles . The gas tank is enough for around 60 shots when using RWA Airsoft Surgeon gas unless you try to mag dump every mag. Given the size and weight of the bolt carrier this is quite astounding . Upon inserting the magazine (if you haven't used a G3 this can take practice) you need to charge the rifle by pulling the charging handle to the rear and then allowing spring pressure to carry it forward into battery . This gives a very satisfying “clunk” and you feel the weight of the bolt carrier close as it hits the steel trunion . Once charged you remove the safety catch which has a stiff , positive feel like the real one (manly) and you are ready to fire . The trigger has some take up and not a very distinctive wall before breaking at surprisingly lightweight . The reset is quite short with a bit of slop but audible with a noticeable click on the trigger finger once it resets . The recoil is sharp and has good travel which is nice for a rifle of this size and weight but does not feel sluggish in the slightest . It's very satisfying . On auto the rifle will rock about nicely but of course that is not what users of this rifle will be using in the field so it's just a fun factor when messing about . Once the magazine is empty the hammer will fall will a”click” and you will be required to change magazines and charge the rifle again . The “correct” military way to do this is to lock the charging handle into it's rear recess , take out the spent magazine , insert the fresh mag and then “H&K slap” the charging handle into battery . This feels great and you can be confident doing this with the steel construction . The hop up is easy to adjust and is located under the handguard (no more damn allen keys) . I have not range tested my rifle yet but the grouping at CQB distance was nothing short of surprising . With 0.28g airsoft surgeon ABS Bbs ,the rifle was easily grouping into an inch group from rested and not quite two inches freehand ! That kind of repeatability on a GBB is almost unheard of from the box and the chrono helped me understand why that may be with only a few FPS variance over a 20 round mag when firing semi auto at a steady pace . Mine currently reads 416 fps average with green gas and 0.2g but I will be restricting that to be around 1.1J with 0.3g just to be safe , This is just a first look and I will be updating this review with photos and more data over the coming days as well as continuing to test real parts compatibility (note this was from 2018 and updates will be posted below ) link to 2018 photos https://imgur.com/a/8MLdgX1 update from early 2019 An update on use after a couple more events . a month ago I used it in minus 3C and incredibly it emptied every mag , every time which was a shock having had earlier VFC rifles and it also having such a large bolt . Especially on only green gas and not red or black I used it again this weekend and this time it was a little warmer . I had also fitted the adjustable valve so I was using it as a battle rifle with slim fore-end and iron sights instead of as a dmr . Range was still amazing with airsoft surgeon 0.3g BBs with no loss of range with the drop in power created by the adjustable valve . The hop has bedded in now and accuracy was nothing short of astounding to the point I was quite easily picking out parts of bodies behind cover at 60-70M . Mag changes are getting smoother too. As an aside , I had also fitted the selector from a real G3 and that worked flawlessly on all modes with no modification or tooling . Literally a drop in fit Update 2022 So Since 2019 I have updated several things - Firstly I replaced the only alloy part (outer barrel section under the handguard) with a steel part that completes the feel and adds even more durability. Also i'm using real iron sights , muzzle device , mag release , cocking handle and support , lower frame , selector and all types of furniture from the sliding stock to various solid stocks , grips , foreends , rails etc . it's still the best shooting airsoft gun i've owned and i have literally owned a good number over the last 32 years (I still have around 80 in the armoury) I can't wait for the VFC FAL to land as I really hope it shoots and feels like this G31 point -
