Lapping your gear bushings
Rogerborg and one other reacted to Pseudotectonic for a topic
The reason I didn't lap it all the way flat was it will probably take down too much and weaken the flange that holds it in place in the gearbox, and also my shims are really just half the size of the bushing, so it is just the inner half of the circle it is resting on, and because there are not much axial load all it needs to do is keep the gear aligned and nudge it when it is off, and having the peaks removed will help the shim does its job and remove most of the point loads from the poor finish against the shim to prevent shim deformation, and there will be grease anyway so yeah, a bit of grooves are good for grease retention I've also polished the gears with tiny amount of Peek (the metal polish) and a dremel buffing wheel on a drill, just to remove the factor sharp corners on the teeth generally2 points -

I have a couple of CYMA shotties. They are great fun for CQB, but the only rif I ever get hacked off using in game. I have an aep that I have fitted with a Li-po. Again great fun CQB, but as said above, a MK23 clone is superior. My first CYMA 028 AK is still going strong despite many drops, lends and soakings. You have some really solid advice!2 points -

Yesā¦ I did think that. I know that you can never have too many rails but even I have a limit!š± Now please donāt judge me but in the interim Iāve bought a cheap Chinese X2 red dot until I actually get to see and fire the rifle. Iām overseas with work at present and donāt get home until Saturday afternoon. SWMBO has already been messaging me asking āWhat are all these bloody packages that keep being delivered and whatās in the big heavy one?āā¦.š¤£šš¤£ I darenāt even hint at how much Iāve spentā¦.. So the plan is to arrive home, fuss up the dogs, be ignored by the cat, dump my washing in the basket, kiss SWMBO, and then open everything on the kitchen table, strip and lube the 416, mount all the goodies on the various rails, set up some targets in the garden and let rip š¹ Then light the log burner, order a Chinese, drink some cider and then off to bedā¦.. Sounds like a plan eh? Soā¦ā¦ thereās a lot more to setting up an airsoft GBBR then simply giving it a clean, pulling through the barrel and check zeroing it. Whatās this hop up that puts a back spin on the projectile? Iāve watched a couple of YouTube videos and think that I understand the procedure for setting it up. Hmmmā¦. and the original plan was just to hang the 416 on the wall in my study š¤ Jim1 point -
I got lucky with my Cyma. It hops .28s out to a decent distance and is more than enough for CQB (45m is fairly easy to hit with it) and cost me a grand total of Ā£50 from Taiwangun pre-Brexit. I'd never even think about upgrading it as I'm more than happy with that, even though I think it is around 0.6-0.7J. If you want a high performance shotgun, you really have to go gas. Golden Eagle ones are apparently really good, but all gas shotguns seem to have leaking issues so they're not perfect. Can also HPA tap a gas shotgun if you want to really control the power.1 point

G&G MGCR556 - any UK owners yet?
Tackle reacted to RostokMcSpoons for a topic
Just picked up on another video on this gat... The RIF you can see now is a 5/10 shot gas shotgun! Could be rather interesting in a CQB environment (you just blasted me with 10 BB's you wanker) There doesn't seem to be much (any?) kick to it, so not sure how much fun it'll be to shoot, but the idea of having the gas reservoir in the gun to allow the use of AEG mags really has the potential to be a game changer in the GBBR market. Anyway, back to the MCGR556, it really does seem to perform well in full-auto... which is nice, but of course doesn't count for all that much in an actual skirmish where single shot for ammo conservation is a real-life necessity.1 point -
As much as I love shotguns, and I feel everyone should own at least one, don't go with it for a first gun. It's a better idea than going with a bolt action sniper rifle as a first gun, but that isn't hard to do Both Cyma AKs and mp5s are fantastic guns and will be great. Don't let the short barrel of the mp5 fool you either, as AEGs don't work like real-steel firearms; an mp5 will be just as viable in woodland as an AK. My Cyma mp5k with a simple hop rubber and nub upgrade shoots further than my TM HK416D NGRS with the same hop and nub (because 1J vs 0.7J on .32s) and cost about 25% of the price. And as far as AEPs go, I wouldn't bother. AEPs shoot about as hard as a gentle breeze and it's entirely possible people just won't feel it if you shoot them on semi-auto unless you're up close and they aren't running or doing too much to take away their attention. I like my TM mp7 AEP for when it's really, really cold and gas pistols don't work well, but I usually end up just using my mk23 in that situation anyway as it shoots better and is quieter and still works in the cold thanks to it being NBB.1 point

What are you're rig/vest recommendations
Badgerlicious reacted to Skara for a topic
We could spend ages talking about nylon. Tell us what RIFs you have and how much crap you intend to carry with you! Kit selection is heavily based on your play style and your supply requirements. I, for example, have different kits for different uses: If I'm playing a "short" event, with not many kilometres involved, I run a chest rig, shooter's belt and small (9L) backpack. When kilometres and play hours increase (8h+) I switch to a battle belt and either a small (9L) or medium (20L) backpack. Pack selection is also based on expected weather/temperatures and event duration. For regular skirmishes anything goes, really. Depending on the RIF I use I may not even wear any nylon, just a small pack with comms, BBs and water.1 point -

As has already been said, take the shotgun & the aep pistol off the table (for now), yes both can be effective in certain circumstances when coupled with certain playing styles, but as a "do everything", forget it, they'll let you down. Out of the other three, they're all viable, you need something that chucks bb's downrange at a reasonable fps & accuracy, they'll all do that, so it's as much about cosmetics & ergonomics really, whatever you like the look of & you feel comfortable carrying all day. Do you have load carry kit yet, webbing, chest rig etc, if you have then what is it set up to take mag wise ?, your gun budget isn't that big, so I'm guessing your not ready to spend loads yet on your rigs to accommodate your future mag choice.1 point -

Hello Jim, I have a Gen 3 version and its brilliant. To answer some of your questions; No, the bolt carrier is not steel. There is a very small square bit of steel where the bolt engages the bolt catch when the mag runs empty. However, although it's not steel, I cant see the bolt carrier cracking or breaking unless you hit it with a hammer. I have no idea if a steel bolt carrier is better. I would imagine that it would be a bit heavier and affect gas efficiency. I am sure the bolt carriers with fit both gen 2 and 3 as there is very little difference between the two. The gen 3 has slightly better internals that makes it a bit more reliable and solves the intermitant issue of the bolt not always locking back when the mag is empty. Mine locks back every time (as long as there is enough gas in the mags) All the internals on the Gen 3 seems to be steel. The Gen 3 does come with an adjustable npas. You need a small allen key and its a bit fiddly but I have had mine running from 280fps to over 350fps (on 0.2g bbs). I think the asian version might have an insert in the nozzel to prevent it firing too hot, but the Uk version is fully adjustable. Hope this helps.1 point -
At least on desktop the 'remove from wishlist' button vanishes on any completed listing, meaning we can't remove items that are no longer available - only remove items that are still available. A fix for this would be lovely.1 point

Drone currents vary by a magnitude compared to airsoft. We either have semi or auto. Semi draws more power for a shot, requiring more current as the motor starts from 0 RPM. Auto is a varying load for sure but cells don't mind that if it falls within their specs. For sure mAh rating is less useful than the current the battery can supply, and you'd need to do power calculations to estimate battery life. Way easier to get a pack and see how long it lives ( For me it only needs to last half a day, I can change it at lunch. For me, I use the largest batteries (physically) that will fit in my gun, current being more important than capacity. I have a couple of watt meters so i can see what my load is and therefore what type of cells I can get away with. My preference is Lithium iron Phosphate (Life), then Cylindrical cells, then Lipos. When I flew drones weight was an issue so they are all Lipo. I have some enormous packs, now in ammo boxes. I'm leaning towards 12.8v Life packs if they will fit, because they are so forgiving in use, last a really long time and supply good current, the voltage not being as high as the 12.8v 4 cells would give you because as we have seen in tis thread, voltage drops quickly and stays at a level for a good while before the battery is exhausted. However, often there isn't enough room for such luxuries.1 point

I'd recommend Cyma AKs however I'd say if you can, go for a VFC clone as opposed to the TM ones, purely down to "newer tech" in the way the VFC ones are built. Note that Cyma AKs do tend to fire "hot" from new- I had one at 370fps on .2s. So you may need to change the spring to suit your sites limits. Or buy 2nd hand that is at the correct FPS. If you got a 028 AK second hand you don't want to be paying more than Ā£80/90 for the RIF and a mag or two. Cyma AKs are quite common in the classifieds and are usually sensibly priced - but the higher end Cyma's run into 2nd hand prices for E&L and LCT aks. Which have superior externals but sometimes lackluster internals. Not used MP5s so can't comment. Tri Shotguns are supposedly underwhelming with usually 1in3 barrels only hopping a BB correctly, the other 2 dribble out. I do have a spring AGM MP003 single barrel Shotgun which is OK as an emergency back up/garden plinker- it cost me Ā£18 from Extreme Airsoft. Finally, as above don't bother with an AEP pistol. They're similar money to a Gas non-blowback pistol like the clone MK23s (ASG/STTI) - which I'd say is a better option and they're upgradeable. All the best, enjoy the money pit that is Airsoft.1 point -

I was a member of Phoenix for a year or two and towards the end of my membership there, I met the wank puffin. I spoke to him briefly, having seen a couple of his videos years beforehand, he seemed okay. Then out to the game zone and he was already out on the field dug in before anyone was released from the safe zone. Cue much fuckery throughout the day in terms of him jumping up and down like a Donald Trump type spoiled brat whenever he got hit and, asking marshalls to change the games and such to get better footage, including pausing a game so he could get a better camera angle. I gave him the benefit of the doubt when I was absolutely certain that I had slammed a bb into him centre mass from my sniper and he didn't call it, but, he completely and single handedly ruined the flow of play all day. I met him a second time a few weeks later and his antics were so off the chart, a number of regulars, myself included went on an area denial tasking for the whole afternoon with the intention of just stopping him slotting kids and rentals for lols. His own team let us pass without shooting us because they were all macked off with his shit too! Anyway, needless to say, when it became apparent he either had shares in Phoenix or it was one of the few sites letting him on and he was going to be there a fair bit, I surrendered my membership and went elsewhere. Some months later, one of the marshalls asked a question on social media asking why people were not playing at Phoenix as much and a fair few answers were "Dicking Buttstain" only to find he came on and verbally abused anyone who had mentioned him. In short, he's a cunt and a terrible ambassador for the sport and should do the decent thing and fuck off back to his racist porn cave in Essex with much haste.1 point -
