I'm another newb (also the wrong side of 40), my son and I had our first Airsoft game at Special Ops this bank holiday Monday just gone. Was a great day, Carlos and the team there are all very helpful. Food as mentioned above was great and you will have worked up an appetite for it. We're planning to go back soon, once UKARA registered I'll be waterboarding my credit card to fund kit for me and the boy. Spoke to a few of the regulars (possibly some of you guys who have replied - if so hello!) during the day and everyone was happy to chat and give advice, certainly no sense of gatekeeping or elitism that I experienced. Really enjoyed it, had some great battles, one memorable moment saw me exchanging fire with a couple of guys maybe 60 meters away from cover. Took out the first guy, then tried to walk my shots to the second as he was returning fire. We both took each other out more or less simultaneously so both took the hit. Quick thumbs up to acknowledge good-game and then back to the respawn. Some tips from my recent experience: The car park is small (though I think they have some extra parking further down), so arriving a little earlier probably means you'll get a better chance at a space. If you are renting gear, the above is also true as you'll want time to collect your kit. Take advantage of the range in the safe area (netted section towards the back) to test fire your gear. Their rental stuff is tough but well used, my first mag wouldn't wind and the hop-up needed adjustment on my gun. All easily rectified but better to find out before you are in the field. Ask questions in the game briefings if you're not sure. It took me most of the day to get a vague mental picture of the site in my head, during briefings there is a lot of arm waving and naming of map features you won't yet know. Better to ask someone to confirm a spawn point or objective then rather than mid battle. Your legs are gonna burn afterwards.3 points -

That's definitely an option. A roll of camo tape is a cheap and effective method of hiding the bright colours. I'd go for something like this as the tape sticks to itself not the gun leaving no sticky gunk when/if removed https://www.amazon.co.uk/Grapelet-Stealth-Camo-Woodland-Rifle/dp/B071F2JFSZ/ref=mp_s_a_1_10_sspa?keywords=camouflage+tape&qid=1685622095&sr=8-10-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfbXRm&psc=1 This. My go to gun is a MP5K which cost me about £140, has no upgrages and has no trouble keeping up with guns which cost 3-4 times as much3 points -
Toxic and with an unhealthy obsession for drawing blood? Seriously, I watched two videos as one was suggested and the other out of curiosity to see if it was a 'one-off' and that was enough for me to change the settings to not reccomend the channel. I shoot other disciplines and I get some people are super competitive - it's personally not for me as I do it just for fun - but theres a line between being competitive and just being a dick.3 points

On reflection I think a full size AK is a bit unwieldy for a 10/11 year old kid. One with a folding stock might help though. My local site, Spec ops, give young rentals either a G&G Raider or a Double Eagle M904G. The smallest / youngest get a G&G Firehawk as these are the most compact (very short barrel) and are easy for them to handle. It's a shame the Firehawk (and the other Raiders) are now rather overpriced.2 points -

I don't think I've seen a site go as low as 10 for regular game days, but Ambush Airsoft near Cobham have a minimum age of 11 so that's an option if his birthday is coming up. https://www.ambushairsoft.co.uk/ I second the bit about renting at first. Apart from the reasons already given he might find a particular model gun doesn't suit him, for example shorter smgs and carbines suit my style of play more so something like a G3 isn't for me no matter how much I like the look of them.2 points -

Agree with the statement of avoid them if you can, never heard good experiences of them (though they do sell some super cheap tat, maybe it's people's expectations are too high) 10 is quite young for it(have met some that age that are fine, some that couldn't cope), I'd suggest finding a local skirmish site, some sites do special events for younger players. If he is allowed to do a normal skirmish he'll need some protecting, easy to see how some painful hits could put him off the sport. I'd also suggest renting, if he gives it a go and doesn't like it you won't be so financially invested. If after 3 games he's loving it still (1 hyped up game doesn't count, 99% love their first game) then it'll be "wasted money" but you'll have a better idea of what to get from using the rentals and players love talking about their guns and kit, everything they have bought is the "best" so try to stay objective. As for your age, you're the perfect age for it! I've seen people from 12-75 play. I'm 38 and it's about 11 years I've been playing for.2 points -

I've been wanting to try airsoft for ages so I've finally bitten the BB and booked myself in at Special Ops as it's relatively local to me. Being over 40 and ridiculously unfit I'm sure it will be an experience! Looking forward to getting out there and also browsing round the forum which has already proved to be a goldmine of info - got to give a big thumbs up to you guys.1 point -

My guess would be 850 ish Mws stock seem to get £400-450 ish second hand. Mags seem to go for around £45-50 each (*8) seen mixed reviews on the 20 rounders in an mws, so I'd suggest selling that separately. The extra magpul bits (to me) don't add a huge amount of value as anyone who is prepared to pay for them probably has an idea of what they want and there's a good chance, it's not those pieces (though they're good). TM stuff does seem to retain value more than other brands second hand and mws's and mags in particular, so 50/70% of RRP doesn't work for them. Also, whether you can even get TM mws stuff new is a gamble, TM stocks come in waves, then dry up. Sell in a dry patch and you'll get top money. Personally I'd list it as a bundle and take lower offers if they don't want all the mags, or they don't want the grip/stock etc. Then sell them on separately.1 point -

I've only bought kit from here but as a buyer & collector I'll usually offer 1/2 the asking price or 1/2 the new price would be, as a seller I'm sure you'll want as close to the price you paid as possible, if you want to sell it fast ask for the min you'd want for it, if you're in no rush then ask for as much as you dare & be willing to negotiate. I've often offered a low price but happy to negotiate with the seller. It's up to the seller if they/you would negotiate or not. I've offered low prices and increased my offer a few times for a RIF recently but the seller stuck to their asking price then I've seen the same item offered at a slightly lower price & bought it instead.1 point -

No idea on the package, but I have one suggestion - Sell the mags separately (ish). Do three with the RIF and then two sets of three separately. The package price then won't cost as much, opening up a wider market. And the mags will sell instantly as they are rocking horse poop doused in unicorn tears sprinkled with dodo jizz. I sold my mags a couple of years ago @£100 for three (twice). I think I underpriced them tbh. I reckon you could easily get more. GLWTS p.s. are you sure you really want to part with the best gas gun on the planet?1 point -
The take down and first time "trouble shooting"
Rogerborg reacted to Colin Allen for a topic
This one from the chap that SSPKali mentioned is very helpful for shimming: Try it with a fully charged battery; that one appears to be very low. If it is fully charged, something is preventing the geartrain/piston moving freely. It does sound like something is rubbing. What power spring is in it? Have you tried it with a motor that you know is ok? It looks like you are getting semi auto lockup; this happens when the gearbox stops in a position where the cutoff lever is still engaging the trigger trolley; it can be cleared by shooting in full auto. This can be fixed by fitting an AB mosfet or a Gate Titan/Perun Hybrid type.1 point -

Best Load Carrying Options to save the knees! Advice needed.
RostokMcSpoons reacted to gavinkempsell for a topic
Great advice, I've been looking at chest rigs too but the reality is I'm too tall & round for most of them but I can adjust a belt rig to any size I want, over the past couple of weeks I've set up a set of PLCE to what I consider milspec(in my inexperienced mind) & then proceded to add & remove pouches every few days to save weight & to try not to be an obvious newbie, I've decided to simply set it up to suit myself as I'm gonna be a newbie regardless of what I'm using & the 2 tone Scar gives it away anyway. The advantage of being a fat lad is I can wear dozens of pouches if I wanted but I'd just fill them with crap I don't think I'd need unless I went on a 2 week exercise on Salisbury plain, so... I've fitted a PLCE rig with 2 double ammo pouches for mid cap mags( I've a few high caps but prefer to use mids) 2 water bottle pouches which I'll only fill one bottle & keep the other empty a dump pouch(if needed) & 1 extra double ammo pouch to carry spare lipo's in 1 and a bb bottle in the other. As a fat lad I'm more concerned with my trousers falling to my ankles half way through a game so on my right side I've rigged up leg holster that connects to my trouser belt & a quick release buckle on my plce belt(braces ordered but not yet delivered)... sure my knees & ankles will be aching and heart deciding if it's worth beating for another day, I'll see what kit I actually use on the day and adjust the weight accordingly for my next game day.1 point -

While it can appear costly, the amount it costs for the essentials needed to start out don't have to be astronomical. Apart from a gun the only things that are really essential are eye/face protection and a pair of boots with good ankle support, everything else is just a bonus1 point -

Thanks for the great advice guys really have opened it more up to me and thinking may be best to hire but know could always be shot in the garden. I will have a talk later with him. Yeah I can see me wanting to play too and it does seem like it could be a fun hobby to get into just the cost wise as seems it can be endless but can be done on a budget without the best stuff. That’s why I though I try and find out a few things before spending money which so glad I did post here now. That’s good to know about the camo and will do that on event days if do proceed with buying one. I’m guessing if it came to selling a two tone would it be less value than a normal one ?1 point

Ahoy and welcome, @-Cowboy-, and don't sweat it (I mean, not figuratively) about age and fitness. Ahoy and welcome. I'd avoid the sub-£100 CYMA CM5XX M4 series. The internals are fine, but the plastic on that range is very cheap and toyish, and that's the part that you can't upgrade. The G36C would be my choice from those three, I rate them as a platform. I think the CYMA G36s have better plastic than their cheapest M4s, but would welcome confirmation. The internals should be fine. I'd echo that the battery and charger that come with it are technically functional, but weedy and unlikely to last a day. I'd get straight onto lithium batteries rather than spending another penny on nimh technology. I'd suggest something like 2 of these or equivalent (although I'd measure the supplied battery and ensure that these will fit in the stock). Note that the CYMA comes with a mini (aka small) Tamiya connector, and that means you'll need airsoft specific batteries (RC vehicle Tamiya battery connectors have different polarity). https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-nano-tech-1500mah-2s-20-40c-lipo-airsoft-pack.html And a SkyRC S65 charger from wherever you can find it cheapest. This looks like a significant added cost, but it's really not worth cheaping out on chargers given the potential for things to go catastrophically wrong. Oh, if you're not in a hurry, and intending to buy from bbguns4less, then put your order together, leave it in your basket for 24 hours and you may get sent a 5% discount code. Enjoy the time and money sink.1 point

FINALLY got my hands on an MP5 and four spare mags. Found a solution for mounting a scout light which works really well, and allows use of the original TM forend for maximum battery space. The claw mount is the wide TM version. You can mount an optic towards the back, with room to spare for a Surefire offset mount in front of it. The Scout light is long enough that shadowing isn’t an issue, but short enough that ambidextrous handling is still possible without having to change the forend and use a vertical grip. Pressure switch is just taped neatly on the top, as I like to shoot thumb over bore / C-clamp. Got a night game coming up soon and can’t wait to try her out. The suppressor is the TM pro tracer, attached to the adapter which comes in the box with the MP5. Looks good enough for me.1 point -

On a less firer note: Surefire handguard, as we already know, is a drop fit, with some patience I was able to fit a 7.4v 1400mah nunchuck, I also had a shorter 7.4v 1300mah nunchuck which was even easier to fit into this handguard. Eotech 551 on a VFC generic low profile claw mount, and as I have a game soon before I could get hold of a Gemtech I came up with a little MP5 specific housing for the Acetech S unit's internal.1 point
