Ex attempting to sell me back my RIF - Is this an offence under the VCRA?
Jedi_Master and 3 others reacted to Shizbazki for a topic
Assuming the facts we have here: You were kicked out at 2am You grabbed what you can and left the house without said MWS Are now living elsewhere You have requested that said MWS is returned or arrangements be made for its return but have been stone walled You have all proof of purchase to back you up that you have purchased the MWS solely for your use only. You state that old bill where at scene but only to prevent a BOP (Breach of Peace). I will assume you lived with said girl and had your MWS at her home address that you shared. Now im not privy as to what the living arrangements were (owned, rented, council, who was main tenant holder etc) Nor do i know how long the relationship was, what stage it was at (just dating, girlfriend, partners, fiancée etc) Nor the circumstances as to the falling out In order for your ex to steal it she will have to meet all the points to prove under S1 Theft Act 1968: Namely appropriates property Belonging to another With the intent To permanently deprive the other of it So she will have to appropriate the property, well we know it is in her possession and (assume) civil means have been attempted in recovering the property either directly or indirectly (mutual friends or other third parties) We know that you have the proof of purchase for an item that solely belongs to you, was never shared between you such as TV, washing machine, microwave as such items are often seen as part of the household. I would put an MWS in the same line as a PS5 or PC that is solely owned by one party or another. Now comes the hard part, the intent. Why does she refuse to return? What excuses has she given? Has she stated or made claims that she paid part, some, or any of it? Does she know its true value? Does she wish to gift it to somebody? Has she made attempts to dismantle or sell any part or parts of it Is she holding it to ransom for something else? The depravation part is essentially stopping you getting hold of it in its original form either not getting it back at all, breaking it, selling it etc My advice to you would be: a) stay calm and cool, keep any messages between you and her in the text world, do not resort to phone or video calls as they are harder to document b) stay civil, refrain from using any swear words in messages, as I often tell people you want to look the victim here, then act like one c) avoid making any threats, this includes direct ones and vague and open ones, believe it or not some people interpret "Watch!" as a threat to kill d) do not delete messages from you and any from hers Like i said keep yourself the victim with messages like "look, please I just want my Airsoft gun back" "ill leave it all and never message you again if you just give me my airsoft stuff back" etc If after all this she still refuses to hand back your property or attempts to sell or destroy the property or claims to have destroyed it. Then pop to you local station or fill out an online form to her local constabulary (I assume Norfolk), explain what has happened, keep it short but to the point. Explain ownership of the MWS, the value of it all and what steps you had taken to retrieve it. End of the day i know you just want your guns back, but if they ask if you want to provide an MG11 statement or assist police substantiating the allegation say "YES" otherwise it gets closed. It will be Domestic Related so you will probably have to answer a domestic questionnaire, just bare with it. GO FULL IN, otherwise you aint gonna get diddly squat.4 points -
There may have been a few posts before about this, but a few things have changed recently so I thought I’d have a a bit of a moan and justify it at the same time . Posting Rifles (between 2kg and 20kg) total weight Many have got away with posting Airsoft guns using a variety of services and couriers - but please be certain they have “got away” with it The only Uk mail service that will knowingly ship Airsoft guns for private customers who do not have a special terms account is the Royal Mail Group (this includes Parcel Force). As long as the package is less than 150cm long and under 20kg they will ship. Most RIFs can be shipped for under £10 (cue my first moan ….. sellers charging £15- to as much as £30 I’ve seen today) for postage for a RIF). If you don’t want to post say that in the add, it’s fine, but don’t charge £30 for postage that will cost £9. Enhanced Compensation RM groups enhanced comp does not cover Airsoft Guns, BUT it does cover accessories shipped with the RIF, If you want to cover the full cost and pay the high cost of extra insurance, you have to be a bit smart. list accessories separately and make you you keep separate valuations in the unlikely event of a parcel force loss - get retail valuation on extra mags, optics, foregrips, suppressors etc, it soon all adds up? however my experience and it is extensive over 200 RIFs now shipped - 3 damaged in transit, no losses, 1 incoming seized by Rm and destroyed, 1 sent seized and destroyed by RM. DANGEROUS GOODS RULES Pistols, GBBRS and HPA- are all potentially caught by the DG in transit rules - with RM group what you have to do is properly vent all pressure vessels (gas mags) and either remove or wedge open the release valve. The easiest way to do this is using a small tight roll of cardboard held in place one the release valve button. Never leave a mag in guns, RM claim they won’t examine a gun with a mag fitted and it is automatically destroyed. I always pack mags outside the pistol box. For ease of examination for pistol packages under 2kg you can use RM 1st class. COURIERS all couriers have different “prohibited” items lists, but all of the Uk couriers specify “firearms” in their list of prohibited items. Please don’t try and be clever with couriers and claim that an Airsoft gun is not a Firearm. The fact is it’s not a firearm under Uk law, but it is a firearm under most (if not all) courier small print definition - the6 don’t have to recognise the legal definition and some have now amended their prohibited list to actually make it clear that a firearm includes anything that looks like a firearm. KIT AND ACCESSORIES The best postage option just now for all kit and accessories is by far the RM Tracked 24/48 service. Tracked 48 is currently £2.85 booked online and that’s including £100 comp cover and free collection from home - you can’t beat that, and it’s a service that is prioritised during industrial action. Cue next moan…..people charging £5-£10 to post a £30 optic…… or a JPC because it’s bulky….lol PACKAGING when posting RIFs please beware there are minimum standards of packaging rules. If you don’t follow them, you lose your right to claim in the event of damage. Use a minimu of a stiff cardboard box, the original retail box should almost always be sufficient but take extra care when retailers use flimsy boxes. Plea to bubble wrap, vinyl foam wrap (like the stuff new tvs are in) even crushed newspaper helps. Take pictures of your packing layers - you will need them in the event of a claim. And always wrap external layer with something waterproof. Bin bags are cheap and good enough. If you ship a lot of stuff, pallet wrap Is the way forward cheap and makes external wrapping piece of cake. finally - always keep your proof of posting ! Without it you have no claim. Happy to answer any questions, there is not much I haven’t come across in terms of shipping problems, claims, losses, dangerous goods seizures. long post I know, but it’s important stuff to know - and looking at adverts clearly many have no idea (or they are at it…lol) happy new year 2023 Paul3 points

Hi Joe, As a fellow East ~Anglian I'll second Stew. I fucked over properly the first year that I played. Dead branches in long grass trapping my feet each time. You'll find the CQB in Snetterton has a good(ish) flat(ish) clear surface. I'll echo Stew (again!) and say keep it light. My skirmish rig is belt, pistol holster, 1 x fastmag pouch, one deep .308 ammo pouch for spare BBs/speedloader/grenades/spare or empty mag, 1 x 500ml water bottle. The rest of my kit (gas/sarnies/big bag of 'just in case' BBs, big bottle of water, poncho, etc) gets dumped at re-spawn in a rucksack. Polymer MP5 or similar lightweight rif and you're good to go. You don't need a load of load carrying gear as I learned the hard way when I started. Playing with all your kit on ones person led to a Skorpion/kit bag full of cheese and onion pasty... 😅 I play with arthritis as does my regular airsoft buddy. When our hips play up we lumber about like a pair of dinosaurs. We still enjoy ourselves. Some days all I can do is hide in a likely spot and wait for the enemy to turn up before blatting a load in the back. Good luck with your first few games. What's your local site?3 points -

Hi Joe, all of the above advice is excellent, I'll echo it by saying plastic gun, as long as its a reasonable brand then whatever you like the look of should be fine, accompanied by three hi-caps should be more than enough for your needs, even with a heavy trigger finger. As for load carrying equipment, again the lighter the better will benefit you at this stage, in fact I'd seriously consider a grab bag, (something like thishttps://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234816279020?hash=item36ac2411ec:g:Kl8AAOSw3Xhjld2a&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAoNgXFPc5xPm4RRY%2B79dia5ERL%2BOokatw%2Bo1NCwCJwqwLIx6SSgJWHB8%2FzWohgks9F9QTFbavmufe4QBWrE%2By534lgQJuxUnRGZ5iZ93qwFc9ywNhl5STyLXVQ2EeFNr2X7Slxbk9NCwIK4QpevT2hZiN5LOluomqdWLToBZLNlRcSZjepQ5J7S%2FpAVtFeq3fWXuo8sRb%2Bwc2x7AKxMDd1%2Fw%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR7aE79ysYQ), essentially a tactical handbag with exterior pockets for easy access to your mags, & a larger centre pocket, enough for 500-1000ml water bottle, the big mouth nalgenes are great & easy to top up in the safezone, couple of chocky bars of your choice, spare battery for your rifle & a small bag of bb's for topping up in case some games don't involve a trip back to the safe zone between turnarounds. Literally it'll be about 3kg at the most, & easy to take off if you need a breather, the numerous tactical vests available may look the part, but layers of heavy sweat inducing nylon are overkill at this point. Decent footwear is a must, again doesn't have to be military issue or Gucci af, comfortable pair of walking boots with ankle support will do. Eye Pro is a must, glasses/goggles or full face is down to you, just be aware that teeth can get chipped, seen it a couple of times myself, expensive to put right & reallyy spoils your day lol. As for sites to play, recommend you look at man-made stuff, cqb or similar rather than woodland, for the next few months it'll be slippery af & every step is littered with trip hazards potentially. & don't feel the need to emulate those around you, play at your own pace while you quite literally find your feet, I currently have mobility problems but doesn't stop me racking up the kills, #sneakymotherfuckerforthewin Literally slow & steady wins the race. Good luck mate, keep us posted & ask here before you spend any money, we'll stop you buying any lemons lol.2 points

Ex attempting to sell me back my RIF - Is this an offence under the VCRA?
Colin Allen reacted to Tommikka for a topic
There is no need to have ‘reasonable justification’ to possess a RIF The only directly relevant legislation for RIFs is the VCRA - she has not manufactured, purchased or sold (If she does put it up for sale then that becomes a different matter on her ‘permanently depriving’ him of his property Currently there is nothing to establish that it has been stolen, only that the OP has not been able to recover his property during a dispute. Softly softly is the order of the day, with the advice above1 point -

Well. I've been on the waiting list for close to a year, but I know Jim does a great job on the whole thing so I'm happy to wait. The actual time they were away was about a month , but they were ready before Christmas I opted to wait untill this week to have them sent back though. He did the full trades, receiver mods on the uppers and turned down the threads on both buffer tubes.1 point

Hi! Thanks for the advice, has given me a few things to consider. I'm planning on going to a couple of days/skirmishes at some sites local to me. I've got some excellent boots as I like something that supports my ankle, they're Chicura Doggo Boa (or something like that) and I can't reccomend them enough. Will have to hire equipment for the first few spins, I do own some RIFs but they're all either .177 BB or pellet or .22 pellet, so I would assume no good for skirmishing. I also have a Umarex HDR, it's a bloody handcannon that fires a .50 calibre solid rubber ball or paintball, getting hit with it is like being kicked by a horse, so I wouldn't want to fire it at someone unless I really didn't like them! 😂 Sniping could be fun, similar to deer stalking which is something I've done a bit of, plus I know I'm a fairly decent shot. Hi! AFAIK the site closest to me is relatively flat (being in the east of England, flat is the default setting). I've been having a look around, lots of options when it comes to weapons! I've used a bullpup in the past and I like them, though I know many don't. I have the cafe concession at a local shopping area (calling it a mall would be very generous) and one of the other stores is a military surplus store owned by a former Royal Marine, so will pop in and pick his brains with regards to load bearing gear and the like.1 point -
Hi guys, I've just finished and published an early, but working version of my TM NGRS STANAG adapter for the ODIN Sidewinder. It really irked me that the only one available was being sold commercially with no option to even just buy the model for printing at home. As a result, I present to you the first open-source GPL licensed NGRS adapter for the Sidewinder, hopefully this offers a decent alternative to the existing adapter. https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/tool/odin-sidewinder-adapter-for-tokyo-marui-ngrs-stanag-magazine Please note that this is a really early version and is at the point of it working, there are some issues and feedback would be greatly appreciated! Known Issues: - No mag catch for the NGRS mag can eject the magazine as spring gets harder to depress (one is planed, but I am torn on to make it 3D printed or accept a standard metal AEG mag catch you can just buy) - Can't fully fill EPMs using knock-off ODINs due to lack of torque, I haven't test it on a genuine ODIN. This design was a complete from scratch design and does not infringe or replicate any of AirTac's adapter.1 point
