Yeah, I plan so play a solid 5-10 games before buying. Doesn't stop me from browsing though. Thanks again, you've been a massive help and I can't wait to become and active member of this community, will update when I purchase a gun etc ( not near future) Cheers -Reece2 points -
Zeroone Fire Support Landwarrior Wolf Armouries Those are probably the biggest retailers, but are also the most expensive. Still perhaps worth looking there first. Best thing to do is establish what sort of gun you'd like first (M4, AK, G36, etc.) then find out what brand in best (you'll usually get told TM - Tokyo Marui). Once you know what you want ask for advice of the different brands that make that gun on the forums (and wait for 10 people to give you 11 different answers!). As Monty has said though, it's worth saving up to get a good one.2 points

Pretty much any g&g will be a good choice out of the box, they tend not to need anything doing to them to be worth using.2 points
-
Or you could just get a decent gun that shoots as well as or better than the vast majority of others out of the box... Fair enough all this techy stuff is interesting for some but it's not a necessity.2 points

Hello, I was browsing on JBBG and I came across this: So anyways, I bought some and lets see how they shoot: As we can see, these BB's are great for game types such as "Defend Snoop" and "Capture the Weed". 10/10 would snoop again.1 point -
new airsoft law in Scotland?
CON reacted to Zak Da Mack for a topic
From what I've heard, Scotland want to either ban or license airguns; which will apparently include airsoft guns of they are able to change the laws surrounding airguns. there is an active petition which you can sign on change.org which I'll link tomorrow if you want?1 point -

I'm under 18 and I will say this. I've said it before, and I WILL say it again. If you get a two tone gun, GET A TRANSPARENT GUN OR A TIGER TONE. A bright orange SRC on a treeline lights up like a christmas tree. However, you seem like you know what you are going to do. Well done for not being a noob like I was. Where do you play? If you live near Gatwick, we could meet up and I could help you in person (I'm 13).1 point -
No worries. It's also good to see a new guy (especially an under 18) doing some research. As I say though, best thing to do is establish what model of gun you like first, then go from there. Good luck!1 point

You're not going to get an AEG for £70 that's going to be anygood. Save up so you can get a better gun.1 point -
Cheers. So basically, If I bring my Dad along for 3 games, He could literally just buy me a gun. Even if I say which one and I stand right by his shoulder when he buys it. Then recieve it the second it comes in the post. It's all above-board and legal? And If I just wanted a two-tone he wouldn't even have to come to the games? Props to both of you for replying + Helping out. Again, Massive thanks + Best Wishes, Reece. Edit: Just a quickie, Most UK stores that have vouches around here only sell serious, Metal construction, Non-2-tone guns, And sites that do cheap starter guns that I could look into? (Just like £70 tops for a durable, Decent AEG)1 point

Airsoft_Mr B reacted to Longshot for a topic
Hi Reece, well done for putting in the work and doing some research. Any time you look into the VCRA you'll find how messed up and confusing it is! Long story short, as you're under 18 you can't legally buy any sort of airsoft weapon, so you'll be relying on an over 18 to get you one, and unless they can provide a legal defence for the seller (e.g. they're on the UKARA database) then it will have to be a two tone for now. They also can't legally sell it to you, so would have to buy it for you and give you it as a present. If, however, you then start playing airsoft at a proper site you can legally paint over the two tone bits. That was the short story, and here's the long; all the VCRA stuff you might want to know in one handy package to save you some research time!: Laws Regarding Buying and Selling Imitation Firearms Relevant to Airsoft As the law currently stands (and it stands on the whim of the Home Secretary): In relation to UNDER 18s: - it is legal to own an IF or a RIF - it is illegal to buy an IF or a RIF if you are under 18 - it is illegal to sell an IF or a RIF to an under 18 From VCRA 2006 Section 40 - http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2006/38/section/40 In relation to OVER 18s: - it is legal to own an IF or a RIF - it is legal to buy an IF or a RIF if you are over 18 - it is legal to sell an IF to an over 18 - it is illegal to sell a RIF to an over 18 - it is illegal to manufacture a RIF - it is illegal to import a RIF From 'VCRA 2006' Section 36 - http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2006/38/section/36 NOTE 1: if you wish to import a RIF, manufacture a RIF or sell a RIF to an over 18 you can avail yourself of a 'defence against prosecution' if you can show that you believed that you were intending to provide the RIF for "the acting out of military or law enforcement scenarios for the purposes of recreation" (an example of which is 'airsoft skirmishing') at a site with third party liability insurance. One way for a seller to do this is to establish that the buyer is registered with the UKARA database, though this is by no means a legal requirement or the only way for the seller to establish a defence for themselves. From 'VCRA 2006 (Realistic Imitation Firearms) Regulations 2007' - http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2007/20072606.htm With further notes specific to airsoft in 'VCRA 2006 (Commencement No 3) Order 2007' - https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-violent-crime-reduction-act-2006-commencement-no-3-order-2007-firearms-measures NOTE 2: any attempt to commit one of the offences listed as illegal above is also illegal in itself. From 'Criminal Attempts Act 1981' Section 1 - http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1981/47/section/1 NOTE 3: the defence required to manufacture a RIF is not age specific, so an under 18 should be able to do so legally as long as they can prove their defence. Acronym Glossary: IF: Imitation Firearm (in relation to airsoft this is generally recognised as an airsoft gun which is painted over 50% in an 'unrealistic' colour - this is generally referred to as 'two tone') RIF: Realistic Imitation Firearm (in relation to airsoft this is generally recognised as an airsoft gun which is 'realistically' coloured so as not be easily distinguishable from a real firearm) VCRA: Violent Crime Reduction Act (the most recent law which directly affects the buying and selling of imitation firearms) UKARA: United Kingdom Airsoft Retailers Association (a group created by leading UK airsoft retailers to easily establish a defence against prosecution for themselves when selling imitation firearms - they maintain a database of airsoft players for this purpose; to be entered on the database a player must play three games in over a two month period at a registered airsoft site)1 point -

I got the ESS v12 Advancers and bought the VICE Rx inserts. I'll be picking up the lenses tomorrow. Specsavers will do the lenses for you for £39. Specsavers also do free contact lens trials, so I'm giving that a go to see how I get on with contacts, never used them before so figured I'd try for free.1 point

Manufacturer's out of the box performance
DX115FALCON reacted to Unrustle_Thine_Jimmies for a topic
CYMA gearboxes, especially V3s,have some QC issues where the holes for the gear axles/bushings/bearings on the shell are drilled off leading to the gears meshing poorly and screeching. You are not the only one. There are plenty of issues like this. More common on newer production runs. Several users on ASM have complained about this. CYMA have some good parts, especially their pistons, motors and hop ups but their QC is getting worse and worse. JG & quite recently,E&L have the best part QC of any ACM company IMO.1 point -

Really dark blue or black are pretty generic. In reality as long as they're not sandy, green or maroon I doubt anyone's gonna get too butthurt about it. All of the others are regimental and don't require any particularly demanding courses to get.1 point -

Just use a Navy Blue beret. This is a generic colour used by units that don't have 'special colour' After that Khaki is the next most widely worn Beret. It used to be a standard infantry regiment colour.1 point -
Nope, pretty sure that's reserved for GoldenEye henchmen1 point

Manufacturer's out of the box performance
Lozart reacted to jcheeseright for a topic
For your normal AEG I'm still putting r-hop down as snake oil along with the fallacy that a longer tighter bore barrel is 'more accurate'. I've shot a huge array of guns and I've never had one shoot reliably further than 60 yards (that's a measured 60 yards on a range, not an airsofter's "my gun shoots coke cans at 60 yards") effective range. R-hop, j-hop, q-hop bla bla bla... none of them shooting 350fps or less have gone really any further reliably than that distance. For a sniper rifle yeah it may be a marginal gain but for your average AEG? no. That and sorbo pads, radiused gearboxes... really now? I know I roll this out pretty regularly but my old Marui M4 had been chugging away reliably for MORE THAN A DECADE with zero maintenance before I sold it, that includes a couple of years sat in a box under a bed with all the seals 'drying out' (clearly they didn't) and it shot just as well on the day I chrono'd it for sale as it did the day I bought it back in 2001. This is the same brand that uses 'crappy plastic bushings' and pot metal gears along with a terribly low tech non-radiused gearbox shell and not a bearing in sight! Yes, there are performance gains to be had on this design, but even so they're marginal... bearing spring guides etc yeah, they might extend the life of the gun by another decade? Reliability is entirely down to good materials and quality control, without those things all the best bearings and sorbothane are useless from the factory. Performance is also entirely down to good materials, design and quality control... an r-hop by all accounts takes a vast amount of fettling to be effective and it'll never work from the factory. Airsofters have this massive fixation with 'upgrades' and chasing the next big performance gain but if you've got a half decent gun to begin with you're chasing smoke, if you've bought a JG M4 with 5 previous owners you don't need upgrades, you need your head checking.1 point -

Looking for Electric Airsoft under £250
Airsoft_Mr B reacted to BrightCandle for a topic
Please don't buy from justbbgun. Go to proairsoft or landwarrior or firesupport or any of the other reputable places, justbbguns is not a good store to be buying from. You could get a G&G top tech Gen 3 with a mosfet for £250 at proairsoft and that would come with a tighbore barrel, 8mm Ball bearing bushings and recoil out of the box, those are great guns with decent accuracy.1 point -
