I always use knee pads, yes you don't need them but you don't need mag pouches, pockets would do the job. It's nice to have the comfort of them.

Another area where it isn't consistent is air guns. You can get a 6ft/lb (8j I think) pistol that fires either pellets or steel BB's and get them in real steel look and feel without any UKARA, the only provision being a face to face sale. Admittedly its not an assault rifle but if you get a considerably less dangerous airsoft pistol (1j and plastic BBs) its got to be two toned. That makes no logical sense at all. But as a responsible adult and airsofter I jump through the governments hoops when it comes to firing and owning firearms. I bring no attention to myself, I don't share the hobby with my family or most of my friends and I just keep it under wraps. Our country has a cultural aversion to guns because some horrible people have done some horrific things with them. For now at least I am happy that I can still get a RIF airsoft gun and go run around and play solder and shoot at least some real steel guns in a rifle club.

Could be a bit unwieldy with the wheels bolted on but yeah.

My local sight has a remote control car with ~9 remote dets & smokes on it and front and back cameras- really is awesome, I've not seen anything like it elsewhere.

Usually the weak springs that airsoft manufacturers put behind their delta rings which are to fault there. Not sure how to go about getting some decent ones in the UK apart from buying some RS delta ring assemblies from Midway (which is what I ended up doing). You'd also need a barrel nut spanner and some good needle nose pliers to change the thing. If it's movement back and forth try packing out the front edge with some tape, if you keep it to the very front edge it'll be hidden under the front handguard retainer cap. Not exactly a professional gunsmithing technique but the problem is brought about by iffy/variable airsoft manufacturing specs and tolerances so bodge solutions are required on occasion.

Fair point! I swapped out the Prometheus barrel for the crappy Element 6.04 and changed the cylinder head and nozzle, re shimmed and re built the gearbox and canged the black shark rubber for the clear and BOOM!

That's pretty much it AFAIK. Same gearbox, motor, wiring and 6.03 tbb. You could effectively turn a Gen 2 into a Gen 3 by wiring in an active breaking mosfet (ironically it would be more reliable if you used a decent fet like the NanoAB).

What changed from G&G Gen2 to G&G Gen3, apart from the addition of the MOSFET?

TBH the blowback system is very simple and doesn't have a great deal of scope to go wrong. G&G internals are far better OOTB - even the shim job in mine was good (there is always room to tweak, but for a factory job it was far better than the G&P). The gearbox shell on the G&G is very good also, with radiusing and reinforcement. It is a shame they couldn't fit a better mosfet though. Just for the record with a Lonex M110 spring and everything else stock the difference the ROF you can expect is 14.5rps with a 9.9 life and 17.5rps with a 11.1 lipo.

I have to say following this I can really sympathise with Russell on the loadout gone too far front.. my SADF kit started by doing a African-esque Merc loadout which moved to more of a Blood Diamond kit to a more realistic Merc kit then full on SADF infantry and Recce and now I'm moving onto SANDF and Rhodesian kit! Yeah Happy, I agree: it's the enemy! I don't think it would be too difficult to armour most of it, but the turret on top lifts up to change the camera angle and the armature is a much more difficult proposition...

If it has a camera I'd say it's a valid target It is fun when sites add these little touches

There seems to be a question mark over the reliability of these G&G MOSFETs. Dunno. I mean, if you're going to end up putting a different MOSFET in it, maybe it would make sense to just put one in the G&P. Still, I hate M4's so what do I know?

my M4A1 SOPMOD Block 2 is very nearly complete: perfectly skirmishable as it is, but I'd ideally like to stick a decent functional PEQ 15 on there and maybe a torch too.

I wouldn't give up on it so soon. Check out some yank forums where a lot of Polarstar techies hide. Some guys like 'SilentObvervant' from reddit are really knowledgeable,as is Bingo from Bingo airsoft works. AirsoftMechanics is also a great place to discuss those kinds of issues. There could be a myriad of issues and might be easy to fix. Could be nozzle alignment issues or it could be that the Fusion engine itself is not releasing the same amount of air all the time due to an issue with the poppet valve or something.

August may not be such a good idea as there is both the AI500 and NAE14 that month, as well as Brit Tac's Op: Shining Light at Copehill Down (assuming the MOD don't bump that again). Bear in mind also that the MOD not only can but will bump your event regardless of how far along with planning and prep you are, or that you've already taken deposits. You know what it's like, eh? Training for serving soldiers will come first, but expecting that to be subject to what we in the civilian world would call 'organisation' is to fundamentally misunderstand what the word 'logistics' actually means in military parlance...
